    When I was young child I use to always peruse through the horror section at my local video store. I loved looking at all of the amazing cover art for all the classic horror films of the 1980’s. There definitely is something to be said about the cover art and poster art to the 1980’s horror genre. I was extremely fascinated with the cover art of movies like the Evil Dead 1&2, The Beast Within, 976 Evil 1&2, Ghoulies , Night of the Demons, the Blob 1988, The Fly 1986, and of course House. I don know what it was about the poster for House but I always used to look at it when I was at the local video rental store. When my parents finally let me rent it I absolutely loved it and I consider it to be one of my favorite horror films of the 1980’s. I highly recommend it to people who haven’t seen.

      @@julezjohn5785 So I’m not the only one who used to look at all of the amazing cover art from the 80s horror movie boxes at the local video store. The 80s really were the pinnacle of the horror movie genre. There’s so many great movies from that decade and the practical effects just added another level to the horror element.

      @@archangel5627 Not even close. I used to treat the horror section of the old mom and pop movie rental joint in the town I grew up in like it was a friggin' museum.
      Luckily, my mother always stayed for 10 or 15 minutes just shootin' the shit with the owner... so I had plenty of time to peruse!

      Me too. I loved to look at all the covers of all the vhs movie boxes. Our super market had a video rental section at one point and I'd check out all the covers while my mom shopped.

      If Roger had stuck around after Ben got shot down both of them would be dead because Roger wouldn't have had Ben to back him up. He left to go get help since he was obviously outnumbered
      and couldn't get Ben to safety by himself.

    The house series were the first horror movies my mum would allow me to watch, and I totally loved them. Got me hooked on the genre, and from that moment on my mother was constantly confronted with me begging for more. My parents had a self recorded collection of such movies on VHS, with the progarm descriptions from the TV magazine cut out and glued onto the paper container of the VHS disk. I would repeatedly work myself through them, read the texts and beg for permission to watch. Ah, nostalgia... I only know House 1 and 2, and they definitely kept their charm till today.

    House is the fucking BOMB! I used to deliver newspapers as a kid, essentially, so I could rent House on a near-weekly basis from the mom-and-pop rental place in town. It's closest in tone to Evil Dead and has so many desiccated hands in it, I'm surprised you could claim it's missing. That's including a scene where Roger tears off Big Ben's hand and beats him with it.

    Sorry, but a correction needs to be made here. "Skeleton Big Ben" wasn't a puppet at all. It was an actor named Curt Wilmot in a foam latex suit. I know because I wore the actual costume at the movie's premiere at The Director's Guild in Hollywood. There were offscreen puppeteers operating cables to make Ben's cheek and brow muscles move and twitch, but there certainly wasn't anything eighteen feet tall. A bit over six feet is all. And the only non-wearable prop Ben head was for a shot in which his blown-off head rolls along the ground at the end. That shot was ultimately edited out of the film but the head was just normal human head-sized.
    I think I know why MInty got confused: "The War Demon", which was a huge amalgam of heads, faces, arms, tentacles and blobs that pops out of the closet in front of Roger and his neighbor, was indeed a giant puppet operated by 15 puppeteers.
    It would have been 18 feet long from back-to-tip-of-longest-claw, but it's an entirely different monster from man-in-a-zombie-suit creation Ben.

    Don't forget the whacked out bizzareness that is the Japanese movie "House", complete with dancing nude torsos! There have also been a few American movies released under the name House but they had literally nothing to do with the greatness of the original. I almost feel like this movie has some secret hidden tie in with the Japanese version, which you can see under the Criterion Collection, you know, for all those artsy films. The Japanese "original", since it came out in '77, is totally the archetype for a ton of Japanese horror anime and video games today. Just watch it and you will see exactly what I mean, and it is absolutely gonzo..but at the same time you see things in that movie that will remind you of things you see in this movie...just sort of an odd feeling of, heeeeeey, wait a minute!

    • @robowarriorx
      @robowarriorx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Seriously, it is whacked out, but it was meant to be, and it is so gloriously over the top, it gives Riki-Oh a serious run for the money.

    Okay so it wasn't Ben haunting the house nor was it in Roger's head. I am pretty sure the film makes it clear in two scenes. One scene Roger has a flashback to the police questioning them about the son's disappearance and his aunt says "it was the house" and then another scene he sees his aunt's ghost and she says "the house tricked me, I didn't think it could but it did." and she says "the house knows everything about you. Leave while you can!" and so that's really what it is, a simple house haunted by demons.
