    You become my favourite channel... me being very conservative and skeptical about EVs, driving around combustion powered cars to realise there is another world out there, perhaps a better one. With the many videos you produced I learned all about an ID.3 that I think I need to know, information I simply don't know how I could ever learn without your channel. You make it simple, with details about the many good and bad in full transperancy about ID.3 1st, I ended up with a mint condition ID.3. Thanks to you I started to contribute to a better planet. We need more of your profile, showing the how rather then these who can only complain about the bad without showing the way to the good.

    You can always close the windows with the car key but to open them it's necessary to enable convenience opening in the settings. I keep it disabled as if you have the key in your trouser pocket and you are indoors but within range of the car simply sitting down can cause the windows to open without you realising. This happened to me in a previous car and it was raining heavily at the time.

  • @mikeandersonwa
    @mikeandersonwa ปีที่แล้ว

    For the first tip, I had a Chevy Volt (Opel Ampera-E PHEV) and you could roll the windows down with the remote, but annoyingly you couldn't roll them up, so if you did it on accident you have to run out to the car and manually roll everything up... nice to see that VW allows you to do both!

      Only thing I've used it for is to clear an error message that appear on the display behind the wheel. For example if the radar gets clogged with ice and I get a warning, I can press OK and the message will go away

    A correction. When plugged in to charger (at home) the battery will be heated (while pre-heating of the car) even with 2.3 software IF the battery temperature is below zero. I've checked this with OBD Eleven. It doesn't matter if the car is charging or not. If the charger is plugged, it will take the battery heating power from the charger. However, the heating stops as soon as the first temperature sensor reaches +6C, so more heating will be done when you start driving.

    • @BatteryLife
      @BatteryLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only with new cars that already had the control unit update from the factory. No idea when vw started integrating that.

    • @JuhaKoskela
      @JuhaKoskela 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BatteryLife Mine is 1st plus and doesn't have the control unit update. I was quite surprised to see the battery heating starting with pre-heating. Verified the result couple of times leaving OBD Eleven plugged in during night and checking temperatures next morning when starting pre heating. There's also a value in the Battery Energy module called "Current, PTC heater HV batt." which tells if the heater is on. It goes to ~12A as soon as you start the pre heating if the HV battery temperature is below zero.
      I observed this first time last December. It's also easy to see from my charger. If the car has been parked for a long time in cold and is not charging and I start pre heating, the car will draw 9-10 kW from the charger. That's more than just the cabin heater (all models sold in Finland have the heat pump). This doesn't happen now that temperatures are ~0C and the battery doesn't cool to sub zero temperature during night.

    Maybe something you missed and which I only discovered by chance: sliding over the steering wheel buttons instead of a (hard) press.
    So to have cruise control go up by 10kmh step you don't have to hard press the left button up but vertically slide from bottom to top. For a 10kmh decrease in cruise control speed, slide the left button vertically from top to bottom. Easier to control than the hard press on the to our bottom of the left button but sometimes you set the distance by mistake.
    On the other hand, the slide on the right button only works with a horizontal slide and gives control over the sound volume. Be careful as a even a modest slides to the right on the right button can increase the volume more than you anticipated 🙂

    Clean up the UX by making many of the functions you use all of the time always on the screen.
    Make the charging 150-175kW.
    Make full power avail for most of the battery SOC.
    Improve the AWD acceleration profile at least for sport mode. My kid's should get whiplash.
    Navi should prep the battery when you choose a charging station or have a button to prep the battery for charging manually.
    Plug n Charge should happen at least at the Electrify Canada and America.

      Any writing on the CAN bus by unauthorized persons will void the car's warranty once it comes to VW ears, e.g. possible during next car inspection or by certain validation/anti-fraud functions run in the car or during next SW update. Obtaining additional features by fraud is a violation of the software terms of use to which every purchaser has agreed. Think about this before doing so.

    • @BatteryLife
      @BatteryLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ac and DC are different kinds of electrical power.
      The battery of an EV is working in DC.
      Power from the grid comes on Ac
      AC charging must be converted by the car,
      that is why it is slower. 2 - 22 kW
      DC chargers are more expensive and rarely available for home use.
      When charging DC the power goes right in the battery without needing conversion.
      This can go up to 350kW. But it depends what car and battery is being charged.
      AC in Europe uses the Type 2 plug. It can be a cable on your car Nd you have to plug it into the charger.
      Or the cable is on the charger.
      DC uses in Europe the CCS plug.
      This plug is always connected to the charger.
      The car knows how to charge depending on the plug you plug in.
      Depending on what car you are charging. 11 kW AC charger is usually enough.
      Please let a electrician install it!!!!
