Great introduction! A lot of reviewer just said the software is terrible and not user friendly, but from what I can see, it is quite logical and well-thought-out. Probably different from the conventional system, but definitely not bad! I'm now more interested in this car now.

I had low expectations, but just got my ID.3 with 3.2 installed. For the most part it seems to be fine really.

37:20 "Convenience opening" is opening/closing windows with the remote key fob. Hold the unlock button on the key fob to open the selected window(s), car must be unlocked first. Hold the lock button on the key fob to close the selected window(s), car must be locked first.
23:16 Automatic air recirculation - When you spray the windscreen, it switches to recirculation for 30 seconds to prevent the smell of the washer fluid from entering the cabin. I turned it off because the windows get fogged up on the inside when it's cold and it starts recirculating the interior air.

Some more hidden climate stuff:
- you can swipe from the temperature slider into the audio slider to adjust a further range of temperature in one swipe ;)
- you can touch the temperature slider with 2 fingers to switch seat heating levels
I saw on a spanish video (cant find it any more), the guy was 2 finger swiping left and right (cant remember where) and it was affecting the zoom of the map!

Have now had the car 1 day, and found the language part in a swipe up menu, which I didn’t know was there. Thought everything was in the swipe across menus. This video has helped me enormously. Many thanks for doing it.

Thank you for this video, it really helps someone understand the nitty gritty details and find out specific points. For example, on my test drive i didnt have much time and couldnt figure out where the trip meter screens were, and the car did not have auto hold which was extremely disappointing - but from your video now I know they exist and VW didnt mess up!!

När beställde du den? Jag beställde min första vecka man kunde beställa fast lane versioner. På vw website står fortfarande att den är snart färdig byggt för 1.5 vecka nu.
@@remco6816 Bedtällde också första veckan man kunde beställa. Jag har fått registreringsnummret av säljaren som säger att bilen är på båten till Halmstad. Hemsidan släpar ofta efter.

The service position for the wipers can also be activated differently, with ignition on, ignition off then move the wiper selector lever up and hold it

I’ve seen in a French video that if you touch the temperature sliders with 2 fingers, it accesses the heated seats directly. Same for the volume slider, 2 fingers zoom in and out of the navigation map. FYI. (Unless it’s different for different trim levels, they had a Max) Great videos, btw.

Just a small correction if you don’t mind: the Autohold function uses the hydraulic brake system, not the electric park brake.

Thanks for the comprehensive and thorough review! I have prebooked an id.4 1st here in Central CA, USA, and am worried about the the rear view, with the small SUV mirror. Since the id.3 and 4 share some tech, is there any way to use the vehicle’s cameras to “see” cars behind and to the side? My wife and I are both in our 70s, and spinning around constantly to look into the car’s blind spots is becoming more difficult. Thanks again for your interesting and detailed reviews!

Excellent video, thanks for that. I have the same car in manganese grey but mine will not play any videos. It plays the audio from them but no video visuals. I also notice that you also have no video codec listed, so any ideas why I can’t get video playback, from USB stick?

Great video Chris. I have the Life model and for some reason my lights button will only work in AUTO mode. Even in excellent daylight it always shows in AUTO mode. Surely this should not be the case.

No, you can get 18-20.
But they have to manage the increased weight of an EV.

No, you can reset the system and then you have one minute on reboot for cleaning

I'm one of those people mad about the lack of speakers at the back. For the price of the car it's a bit of an insult to have no back speakers. Great Video though!

Great video, thanks for such a comprehensive overview! One thing I didn't notice is the the possibility to set the time of charging, for example if I wanted to charge at night instead of right away when I plug in the cable. Is there such an option available either in the infotainment screen or in the app and if so, what is the procedure?

Hi, I also got an ID3 very recently, for which I installed a charging station at home. I have developed my own EMS (energy management system) with which I send to the vehicle with how many amps it has to be charged, so I can do real smart charging in function of how much Amps would otherwise be injected into the grid by writing to the modbus registers at low level in the charging station. This means that when the sun goes away for a while, I stop charging, and when it comes back, I start charging again. The problem is that the car seems to go into some sort of sleep mode when it doesn't receive charge for a while. I then have to restart the charging with the we connect app, or locking or unlocking the car to wake it up again.
Do you know how we could overcome this. In the future cars should be able to do this to optimise charging when there is a lot of renewable energy, so if Volkswagen doesn't have this yet, they should develop it. Maybe you can talk to your connection at Volkswagen tocheck this?

@@BatteryLife Actually yes. A bit. You can store the setting of the rear view mirrors when driving backwards. That's stored with the driver key, already.
Hi, I just purchased an ID3 and the projection sign on the floor looks like if this one logo has a crashed glass over it, the same sign appears in the passengers door, is it a new design? any idea as to why it is different?
Nice and very useful Video! One question for 17:13 ; how do you select the "Neutral" Gear? For example when you have to push the car for any reason?

I think the setting has to be activated than you can do it in the normal way.

Hi Chris, can you explain what the Green/Blue bars indicate on the screen below the speed. There is no explanation in the owners manual.

How high are the front seats above the floor pan please? My wife has a bad back and needs her feet down, not forward. I currently have as S-Max, which has 350mm from floor to seat and she is happy with that.

i wonder if this is a language thing - i would have preferred "volume up", to be at the top, "volume down" to be at the bottom, "previous" to be on the left and "next" to be on the right. anyway, thanks for the in-depth review...i have an id.4 reservation, but still have some reservations about it, and these types of videos help.

Skoda meb cars always normal mode. VW id cars remember the last mode

Great video..! Quick question; at 12:08 mark, does this mean the wiper stalk control is opposite of every other VW before this (tap down for single wipe, upwards for intermittent-normal-fast...?)

Have you tried to expand the number of the pre-heating timers by setting up them both. Maybe it will work like Android calendar notifications that opens up a new blank setting when all the previous ones have been filled.

Very informative video. Can media music files be played through a USB stick. I know they only have USB type C connectors but do they allow playback. My previous car only allowed playback through a dedicated USB. Appreciate your help.
Yes, you can. You just need an adapter. It works with your phone, usb stick, even a usb harddrive.

Yes well done, and very useful to compare with others cars. Ergonomics is a real stake, it can make you happy and lazy, or raise real irritations because of details. This may be a major decision factor for someone already using a "smart car".
A couple of more things would be interesting, in particular for comparison with the Tesla features :
- On-board trip planning regarding charging : proposed charging points, range margins, total time, ...etc. (Tesla does very well, but with poor integration of non-tesla chargers).
- Apple-car play ? (AFAIK, Tesla does not)
- Some more details about driving assistance features : auto speed-limit changes, offset to speed limit, lane-change, ... etc.
I have a question regarding battery longevity. I know it is not advisable to top up to 100% apart from the few times a year you go on a long trip, but for day to day use, is it best to just plug in every day on the home charger overnight and top up to 80%, even if the car may only be at 60%, or is it best leaving it 2-3 days until it gets to around 20% and then top it up to 80%? For my daily commuting and home charging I can't see myself using public chargers a lot unless I am on a long journey and need to fast charge or there is a free charger I can plug into while in a shop or something and save some electricity at home.
I also wonder how much charge the car loses when it is parked for longer periods, say for 1 or 2 weeks in an airport carpark or something?

The best for the battery is keeping it between 20 and 80%
Lots of people dislike lane assist and complain that it is too hidden in the features to be conveniently switched off each journey. Could that maybe something you could have in your favourite section?
I'm not British but acc to Wikipedia: A bonnet (Commonwealth English) is the hinged cover over the engine of motor vehicles. What he showed us was the EEC - Electronic Equipment Comparment.

Fantastic review but those capacitive steering wheel controls are horrible. Should be physical buttons.

Sorry for the delayed comment but only just found your channel. The setting where you can turn off the proximity / automatic unlocking. If this is turned off then does the car stop looking for the key and the phantom drain you mention is not an issue or does this still happen with auto unlocking off.
You also have to turn off welcome light when approached.
