    been playing the tour 90 stiff for the past 3yrs, and absolutely love them! switched from a much heavier true temper shaft, picked up 20-30 yds with almost every iron. won't be changing these anytime soon.

    One of the best shaft comparisons I've seen. And with Danny's comparable SS to mine. Great testing guys

    Am viewing this again 6 months later. This time I really listened to what Danny was saying about the 120 gram shafts causing him to come out of posture and stand up, creating thin hits. Well he is young and has a swing speed of 88-89 with a 7 iron. I happen to be 82 this coming June and have a swing speed of 75 with my 7 iron. But the shafts I currently play are Royal Precision Rifle Lite stiff flex weighing 120 grams. So it will be no surprise to you to hear that I have some of the same problems only more so. Was working on exactly that during a lesson today. I play Chicago Classic by Evans Design forged blades with a 7 iron head weighing 270 grams with 34.5 loft. They closely resemble Mizuno MP-33s like the ones I had in the past. Evans was the director of tour operations for MacGregor Golf year ago and had his own small company from 1987-95 that did forgings in Taiwan. I now want to have a second set of the same heads made up with a lighter shaft more appropriate for my age and swing speed. So I am researching shafts intensely together with the pro at my range who is also their club builder who made my set. Since there is no fitting cart for these heads I bought a Nippon Pro Zelos 7 stiff shaft that weighs 77 grams and he made a 7 iron with a Golf Pride MCC+4 grip. I can swing that faster and get 5 yards more distance, but it may be too light, and with the heavier grip the swing weight is D-0 compared to D-4 with the Rifle Lite shafts. So I have now bought a Zelos 8 stiff shaft that weighs 87.5 grams and will have another 7 iron made to see how that works. But today he also wanted me to try a Nippon Modus 3 105 shaft and a KBS C-Taper Lite shaft. However, these had to be paired with TM P790 heads that are quite different than my heads. But looking at Danny's results again, I now want to try a KBS $ Taper Lite, probably in regular flex at 95 grams. Seems like that would provide faster ball speed and higher launch and spin and longer distance than the C-Taper Lite while being a better weight for me than the Zelos 8.

      @GregoryKarambelas ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting! I was recently fit for clubs for the first time and was fit for TM p790’s on C-Taper lites. Those shafts seemed to be the most stable feel and allowed some faster swing speed for me. Looking forward to picking them up soon and giving them a try

      @@GregoryKarambelas The P790 and C-Taper Lite is a combo that the pro and club builder I go to just had me try. He felt that shaft worked better for me than a Nippon Modus 4 105. Were yours stiff or regular flex? He only had stiff at that time but wanted to look for a regular. Did your fitter compare the C-Taper Lite with the $-Taper Lite for you?

    • @GregoryKarambelas
      @GregoryKarambelas ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnk.atchley5079 mine are the stiff flex. We also tried the $ Taper Lite but my dispersion overall was better with the C-Taper Lite. It felt more solid and comfortable at least for me. I was actually flying the ball really high in general so the fitter and I agreed we didn’t want to go with something else that gets the ball even higher than I was already hitting them!

    The KBS Tour-V is one of the stiffest-feeling shafts available, for those physically stronger players who prefer that kind of feel.
    Its overall feel is stiffer in the butt and mid-section of the shaft, with a more active tip.
    The Tour-V comes in 100g/110g/120g shaft weight options + the heavier 125g/130g tour weight options.
    For reference, Viktor Hovland uses the 120g version for all his irons and the 130g version in all his wedges, while Phil Mickelson, who the Tour-V was originally co-designed with and made for, uses the 125g version across the board for all his irons and wedges.
    The dispersion is generally very tight on the Tour-V shaft, and it basically acts like a straight point-and-shoot sniper rifle, assuming you possess a half-decent golf swing of course.

    Not sure if Thomas or Danny will see this comment since this review was done in December 2021. However, I have been looking on the KBS website for the Tour 90 and it does not appear. I think they replaced it with the Tour Lite in 2022, which weights 95 grams in regular flex, 100 in stiff and 105 in X stiff. From what I see on the Internet, the two were very close in weight. It would be really cool if you could update this shaft comparison. Especially if you could use two hitters, one like Danny or Thomas who has high club speed, and another with naturally lower swing speed who could test the same set of shafts in regular flex. I think this would be worth the effort and time as KBS shafts are so popular that it really helps potential buyers to know the different results. It might even encourage potential buyers to come in for fittings because even if it looks like one shaft would be ideal for a given player, actual fitting might show that another model that did not perform as well for your tester in fact performed a bit better for the customer. Even if you go on KBS and use their fitting system, you will get 6 results with up to 4 different models and flexes, with one ranked as the best fit, but with the next three actually being just as highly ranked. And factors like you telling KBS whether you are an early, late or mid releaser and whether your tempo is smooth, moderate or quick, are subjective matters that a professional fitter will be far more able to identify correctly than the player can self-identify. But seeing a great video of the full range will help bring those customers in.

    I swing at 80mph and game the tour 90. But have the swingweight at D4. In a game improvement iron. The tour 90 balances the low spin head. The extra SW has balanced the feel but I’m still getting good height and spin. Found my perfect set up especially when I increased the swigweight light shaft combo.

    I would recommend the c taper 130x for anyone who swings over 100 mph. I was using x100's before which play more like a stiff than an X. C taper is where it's at if you don't want the ball to overspin and balloon in wind.

    @marksakowski9272 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Selection of a golf shaft is not only the swing speed but more importantly the weight, I hate light, flexible shafts ( however I am classified as R+) because I have a quick transition and the golf club head feels overly heavy, there is no balance in the whole club. The bending profile of a shaft is even more important than the overall stiffness. I as well much prefer flex in the grip than flex in the tip of the golf shaft. It is a pity how many fitters avoid these issues and sticking to a "standard" swing speeds.

    Great video and very interesting. A couple of things which leapt out to me firstly some reviewers talk about traditional lofted irons and the target backspin should be 1000x the iron number. Here the tester was hitting 7 iron around the 5000rpm ish figure, so in theory 2000rpm below what others talk about. The second observation is that he's getting some great balls speeds and carry distances of typically 175 to 180 yards, that's would usually put a guy into the 'X' flex in a lot of fittings. But is this as a result of the low spin?

    • @Golf_Hack
      @Golf_Hack 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He is hitting a 7 iron with the same loft as a traditional 5 iron. So 5000 spin is correct.

    • @AGClassicCarTuning
      @AGClassicCarTuning 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Golf_Hack He's using a Mizuno JPX921 Forged which are 3 deg strong compared to traditional. 31 deg versus traditional of 34 deg so not quite 1 full club strong. So his 7 iron at 31 deg, is 1 deg weaker than a traditional 6 iron..... so if anything his spin rates should be closer to 6000 - 6250rpm. Interesting video though...

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You find a correlation with faster swing speed to a heavier shaft but it's definitely player dependent. The equation of 90 mph to 90gram shaft weight is going to be tough as most shafts are 100-130 grams and the speed of 100-130 mph is very fast. - Thomas
