    Can you guys do a similar fitting experiment for wedges? Get "wedge flex", regular flex, etc. Would be interesting to see for full / partial shots, what the data is.

    Great content. I was custom fit at your Delaware location 3 weeks ago by Tom H. Great fitting. 82 mph average with 7 iron and 96 mph driver. Fit into regular Tensei AM2 red graphite shafts - 1/2 inch in Titleist T200’s. And HZDRUS smoke yellow 60 gr 5.5 regular flex in my Taylor Made M2 head.
    Thomas is right. Lower end of stiff, smooth tempo made me fall into “regular” flex. In both irons and driver.
    A couple of 1.50 smash factors with my M2. Happy as can be ! Recovering from shoulder surgery in December 2019 so this was a nice comeback. Used to be a few mph faster prior to surgery

    Good comparison Thomas. Thx. I'd love to see a comparison between a heavy R-flex and a light S-flex or a heavy S-flex vs. a light X-flex. Maybe with differing tempos and loading too.

    This was an awesome comparison. I just got new clubs with the elevate 95s in stiff. Moving from Reg graphite. True temper will be happy to see the results in this video. The two are doing what they are supposed to do, with consistent spin and tight groupings

    At one time the emphasis was on the average distance a golfer hit a given iron. Now the lofts have been strengthened and there could be a distance variance between different brands of irons from a different era. When I was younger I used to hit a MP 14 - 9 iron about a 150 yards. Over time I didn't play golf on a regular basis for quite a few years. Now my playing has increased but I'm more likely to hit a Ping I-10, 7 iron for 150 yard shot into a green. My strength is coming back slowly and getting the right shaft is crucial. The feel and results being very important in a fitting. Because the lightest shafts mat not always be the best shafts. It would be good for us older guys to see a demonstration of a good golfer who has a slower swing speed do the same test.

    You're totally right. I have two drivers, both stiff shafts. One makes me hit snap hooks all day long but the other one gives me push fades. I have no idea why but yeah, not all stiff shafts are the same. Although, it could have something to do with the head because they are different too.

    I switched after years of playing the S300/S400, to a graphite Recoil F4 110. They feel great, but there is a noticeable difference in height and spin, especially in the longer irons (3-6). About 5 yds. less carry and 10 yds. total distance. It took some getting used to the changes, but overall happy with the switch.

    as a 3 cap in between stiff and x typically...but need lighter shafts due to arthritis setting in. it amazed me how elevate stiff was constantly weak right...modus s 120 was auto left...xp 95 and 115 were straight. ended up hard stepping modus stiff 120 weighing 114. i needed a wedge shaft after hard stepping and found a kbs tour flt stiff 120 and i hit that the best :)

    I just did some iron fitting and had the same results. The lighter shafts are easier on my, not getting any younger, body, but consistency suffers. On paper steel fiber shafts seemed like they would be ideal, but I still get the best results from X100 or S300.

    I went for my first iron fitting a few months ago and never paid much attention to shafts. The fitter put the KBS $ taper in a TM790 and it was a very enlightening experience. I felt like I knew exactly where the club was at every step of the swing and found it very easy to square up the face. Even if you think you are awful it's never a bad idea to find out what feels good for you and your swing.

    Hi from Kiwiland Thomas. Would love to see the result of you excluding the pulled flier in the KBS C taper lite. Take that one mishit out and it’s a pretty good dispersion pattern. Std devs on spin and carry would be halved

  • @kwalter2323
    @kwalter2323 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Shafts are not responsible for spin rates. They simply change strike locations and or swing delivery numbers and that in turn changes spin rates. Thomas always mentions that the clubhead is a bigger indicator of spin rate than shafts are

  • @josiahjones9521
    @josiahjones9521 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Question: Does the type of club head make a difference with the shaft?? ie: you fit into a shaft with one type of club head, will that shaft also carry over to a different head?

  • @theequalizer707

    I bought Calloway mavs with stiff shafts. As u know they are made for length. I’m not getting the height I would like. My old clubs I would hit very high. With these clubs do u think I might benefit by going with reg shafts ? I know it’s tough for u to answer. Just curious if you have a thought

  • @robertmclean6927
    @robertmclean6927 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Once you have gone for the shaft fitting they will cut off some lengths to fit different irons and of course that will change the weight, so what will that do to the flex? I ask myself why do I want the shaft to flex at all? Is it just another inconsistency to be taken in to consideration when using a longer iron to play a short chip OR is it a marketing ploy for manufacturers to use to promote their goods. Flex is easily measured using a clamp at butt end a fixed rod for the mid length lay on and a weight hung on the tip end. Measure the distance the from the tip to the floor before and after applying the weight. The smaller the difference the stiffer the shaft.
    At the end of the day a golf club is a glorified hammer used to hit golf balls. Would a carpenter ask for a hammer with a more flexible shaft?

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's for feel. Some players prefer to feel a board while others need more flex. Good reason to rest shafts with your club fitter. Results are always player dependent. - Thomas

    • @robertmclean6927
      @robertmclean6927 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@2ndswing Hogwash, it's about marketing and parting people from their cash. When does the shaft flex and why would you want it to? If 4 identical shafts have their weight/flex covered and a pro is asked to tell which one is which he will not be able to do so. See Rick Shiels on You Tube where even the results of testing different shafts with the same clubhead and found negligible difference Your reply "It's for feel" is now saying flex(which can be measured) is not flex it's weight and weight (which can be measured) is not weight its feel which can not be measured. However there is another You Tuber pro golfer, discussing balls and clubs, who says feel is really sound.

    Great content again and some very interesting information here Thomas. Can you tell me if there is much difference, in your opinion, between the Elevate 95 stiff and the Nippon Modus Tour 105 stiff. Does the 10g difference make the Modus feel much stiffer in flex/bend profile? I’d appreciate your feedback.
    Cheers Thomas 👍

    Project x , 6.0 is it stiff ? Or stiff plus

    • @apaulmcdonough2170
      @apaulmcdonough2170 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      P X 6.0 is a bit higher than "Stiff", in the overall range of available "Stiff" Iron Shafts. The P X LZ 5.5 is equal to an X 6.0 in relative "stiffness", so a 6.0 X LZ equals a 6.5 X.
      The bend patterns and kickpoints are the Main Difference between the two Shafts.
      The term "Stiff" is only relative to an Individual Make and Model of Shaft.
      Some "Stiff" models equate to "Regular" in other Models.

    this video is more of a shaft weight comparison rather than flex.. the title is misleading. "Stiff" refers to how much the butt end of a shaft vibrates when tested on a bench. This test is more of a contrast between the effect of weight, feel and kickpoint.....which btw if all of these were the same length the swing weights would be totally wonky. Love your videos but this one isn't the most useful. Most surprising was the relative little difference between them, so it comes down to feel.

    Guy at driving range: “Have you ever wonder what a stiff shaft means?”
    Girl at driving range: “What did you just say to me?”
    Guy: “I was noticing your irons have stiff shafts and was wondering if you’ve ever wondered that. I just watched a video on TH-cam by Second Swing golf explaining it.”
    Girl: “Oh.”
    Guy: “So you want to come over tonight and I’ll show you what a stiff shaft is?”
