    I kinda love him even more now, the mad bastard, and I'm a Villa fan. I guess his point was to say that spying on training didn't give him a massive edge over the opposition because look at all this other extensive work he's done (which is the kind of prep that any manager can do if they are so inclined) and the spying was just a tiny part of the whole picture. I think it's been way overblown but it seems to be breach of etiquette according to some.

    Itsi been blown way out of proportion, bielsa knows more about derby than lampard does. Hes showing all these charts and information because that is just how he works, and he can't go to sleep at night without knowing he has done everything in his power to get his team as prepared as possible. Theres so much information you can get from watching videos, someone having a gander through a fence isn't going to tell you much more than you already know apart from maybe confirm what you *do* already know.
    Nothing more than a slap on the wrist for me, hes done nothing wrong........thats the crux of it, hes done absolutely NOTHING wrong and we have people talking about a points deduction is sheer madness. You can talk all you want about ethics but in the modern game even that gets pushed to its very limit, you only have to see players writhing around in agony after being tapped on the leg to see that.

  • @alantmontgomery
    @alantmontgomery 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    i feel like bielsa's whole point was to highlight how anxious/obsessive he is and to therefore emphasise how looking at training is just to put his mind at rest that what they have researched is correct. To try to justify his actions by more or less saying, 'we know everything, but we spy on them just to double check'. This is why he said he didn't have bad intentions because in his mind he doesn't learn anything new/gain an advantage from spying, it's simply for peace of mind so he has all the bases covered.
    if i was a manager that still had to play leeds i would change things up dramatically just to see how he handles coming up against something he wasnt expecting. play your left back on the right wing, go with 6 at the back. it is clear that a huge portion of leeds success this season has come from such critical analysis from bielsa and his team. Keep up the great content Ben

    The Bielsa are a well-respected family in Rosario, the city of Messi, the city of the legendary, CHE Guevara. Rafael Bielsa, the brother of Marcelo, was a remarkable Chancellor, in the government of Cristina Kirchner; Maria Eugenia, Marcelo's other sister, is about to run for governor of Santa Fe. Rosario's News Old Boys stadium is called "The Colossus, Marcelo Bielsa, and Bielsa himself has just built and donated a 5-star hotel for the youth of the lower divisions that come from the interior of the country to live. The building, which was secretly built, gave him the name of his mentor, Griffa, before donating it to the club. People love him, and he loves the club of his loves. A crack.

  • @Nifava
    @Nifava 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You missed the point. What Bielsa said is he does all he can to gather information of the opposition because it's his job and helps him feel prepared but it really has no effect because players are the protagonists of the game. Take for example what he said about set pieces: he knows it's Leeds biggest flaw but his team still gets scored a lot from set pieces.
    Also, it's not the first time Bielsa gives a conference like this. He did it in Bilbao after he commited to a candidate in the club elections to show he had prepared for the job and it wasn't an electoral stunt. He's only worried about his work ethic in terms of reputation. He doesn't give a shit about the other stuff.

    The point is Ben that The EFL, FA and Leeds Utd have a duty of care to their own staff and players and as we saw in our Preview, his need for domination is bound to spill into every area of his management and they might find other victims of other behaviours. If not the end for Bielsa, certainly the beginning of the end? Having searched in depth, I just can’t see a way for him to survive and once the everyday Leeds fans find out about the 1980s and his brother Raphael and his current campaign against the UK, I’m sure some patriots could turn against him. That would be sad for Leeds fans and for football as sport and politics should be kept separate but the national media are bound to be digging deeply and might go big on R Bielsa’s political activities against the UK. Our Leeds Match-Day vlog didn’t mention Spy-Gate once and we received high praise from Leeds fans for our integrity in sticking to the game, keeping the spygate politics out of it. We’re all here for the football at the end of the day. Right, only just back from our trip and win at St Mary’s, so I’m off to celebrate with a glass of Port. Stanley for the Rams in the 4th Round! Who’d have thought? 👍

    You repeated what Derby County said about the “spy” having pliers. The police statement said nothing about pliers. It said:
    “Officers were called at around 11.20am on Thursday, January 10 to reports of a man acting suspiciously on Morley Road, Derby.
    A man was found at the perimeter fence of Moor Farm training ground and spoken to. Officers conducted routine checks which were all above board.
    Despite media reports, no damage to the fence was found, and the man was stopped outside the grounds.
    No arrests were made and the man was sent on his way.” Police are not allowed to pass on information about what was in his possession to Derby County, so I am not sure where this comes from. You are adding to the misinformation spread by Derby to make it seem more serious.
    Otherwise it was a good balanced piece. Like your channel

      Oliver Goddard could you not grasp the amount of effort that is involved in putting together all the information that he showed us? You don't get that from one person watching a short period of training. He already knew how Derby and probably everybody else in the league takes set pieces not from spying but from information gathering. It would be impossible to get all that information from a quick spying trip by one person, analysis it and explain it to the team. That is what he was trying to get across and just where did the videos come from? nobody else has ever mentioned them.

    Hi Benjamin, as a Derby supporter, Leeds won fair and square. Two things I'll throw into the story. One- a lot of championship clubs who've gone up have cheated through FFP. Two: if you were the owners of Leeds would you trust this guy going forward. He will get a slap on the wrist and that's it. Ipswich should start spying lol.

    • @stephenhodgson3506
      @stephenhodgson3506 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Steve Clayton why shouldn't they trust him 99.999% of the information he has comes from legitimate sources and having learnt his lesson he won't repeat the error. To be honest I would have thought as a Derby fan you would be a little more concerned that Bielsa has just revealed how he went about beating Derby twice and showed much of the information he has on Derby, their method of play and player information. I'm quite sure that every single manager/coach that Derby have to play for the rest of the season will be studying what they have just been shown.

      @@steveclayton4249 thanks for your comments. As I said the thing that really stuck out to me was the way Bielsa laid out Derby like an open book for all to see. That and they way he only referred to Frank Lampard as 'Lampard'. I would have thought that if the Derby Chairman or Lampard himself were watching the conference they would have been horrified at what was going on. The more you hear about Bielsa the more I am convinced he suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder like Beckham. He has the grass at both Elland Road and Thorpe Arch both cut to a specific level which he measures. I think this is just another example of that. He said the three things you want to know about the other side are formations (which he already had) who was playing (which a spying trip might give you but the press usually report on that) and set pieces (again he admits he already had that).. So I just think it is to ease his anxiety which he admits to. The one good thing that has come out of it from the clubs point of view, is that he now seems to have bought into the world is against us that some Leeds fans have and that may mean he stays with us longer than he has with other clubs.

    Even if of all his research this is the least important, it still has some benefit otherwise he wouldn't do it.
    The level of hoohah this is going to be depends on how the other managers take it and whether they get together and go to the EFL.
    Personally, I'd fine Leeds a wedge for unsportsmanlike conduct under whichever rule is something like "respect for other clubs and the league" and give him a touchline ban. It is wrong even if it's not a law, kicking the ball back after the opposition kicks it into touch for an injury isn't in the rules is it? But it's expected. It's expected you're not going to spy on opposition's private closed training sessions.
    If other clubs put pressure on the EFL it could be more serious but even as a Blade I'd say a points deduction would be a bit ridiculous.

    I just think it's more important that clubs like Birmingham and Villa (who appear to have broken the FFP rules) are punished by 15 point penalties or whatever, while Marcus Evans has continued to conveniently hide behind them, regarding his lack of investment - I understand that Birmingham's hearing with the EFL concerning this matter is in Feb 2019.
    I know I've said it before, but how in reality are QPR still able to exist or even REMAIN in the Championship? - they should have at least dropped to League 1 for their ridiculous overspending in the last few years. Until major punishments are handed out, I won't believe that such rules (that claim to exist) are really in place.
    Regarding the 'spying', I'd be surprised if much comes from it - probably just a slap on the wrist like you say.

There is normally more press than fans watching, but nothing to stop a spy. Occasionally teams will train behind closed doors, to hide player fitness or to practice set plays etc., but you hear about the press hiring helicopters to take areal shots or using drones to get vision etc. I think it is good management to fully understand your opposition, but breaking laws to do so (such as trespassing) is definitely unacceptable.

      Think you’ve taken the analogy totally literally - the point I was making is he’s being investigated for watching the training so talking about the other research is irrelevant. Happy to debate but no need to be patronising or rude!

    How is this odd and bizarre are Bielsa has gone and shown how much time and all the stats and figures of derby. Showing that “spying” for a small amount of time 1 day before the match because he already knows all the players and exactly how they play. He feels ashamed tell but the ill minded people out there saying this had a huge effect and Leeds should be charged and points taken away. Clearly have no idea how many hours Bielsa and the team put in to grind out these results (204hours per team (24 teams))

    you completely miss the point. Training sessions in Argentina, Spain and other countries where he has managed are not private. In Bilbao they have a stand so the fans can watch. They are also filmed and if you search youtube you will find them. Saddos like me like to watch them and understand about how this pioneer goes about doing what he does.No where in the rules does it say you cannot go into a training session. It is a culture thing. You can elsewhere, you cannot here. He's not from here. How does he know you cannot go? Where has anyone ever said you cannot? It's a culture thing. He has not done anything wrong.This is a guy who does everything he can to win. He gains little from the training ground spying. That's the point of his eye opening press conference. He already knows Derby inside out. The only info he needs is, does anyone have a knock, or look injured?PS I support Everton and have no vested interest in this other than admiring Bielsa.

    Your comparison with being caught speeding doesn’t work, because speeding is against the law, standing on public land watching a team practice isn’t. I can’t see what he’s done wrong that hasn’t been done hundreds of times by almost every professional sports club in the world. The fact is Bielsa has turned a load of decent football players into a terrific team who can beat almost anyone put in front of them. Lampard is just crying into his beer hoping for an advantage. He keeps saying it’s up to the authorities, and then burbles on again about it. If he thinks it’s up to the authorities he should stop moaning about it. This is just this weeks attempt to create a moral panic about football. If Sky shut up about it everybody else would soon forget the story. It’s just another example of an anti-immigrant story. I’m bored to death with it all already.
