Kawasaki Z H2 Review

  • Kawasaki has broken all the rules with the Z H2 - a naked bike is supposed to be calmer, more relaxed and more passive. It certainly isn't supposed to have a walloping, big supercharger and make 200hp. But since when has Kawasaki worried about silly little things like rules?

Great review as usual, keep up the good work & love the humour! Can you please review the new Ninja 1000sx, Kawa has finally fixed the handling problems of the previous model with a slight steepening of the rake so you don't need to replace the rear tyre with a 55 profile, it's also a tad taller which improves the comfort on longer rides, and a more padded seat. (and of course the riding modes, quick shifter, cruise control & TFT screen all new as well). Keen to hear your thoughts!

Great video and LOL moments good to see the Z H2 up there and getting the feedback it deserves. It certainly isn't the the most competitive neither does it have the best brakes or suspension but man does it make you feel good and put a massive smile on your face. I'll be doing the full review on the Z H2 2021 in the coming weeks, then have some mods to add such as the Scorpion can and Sprint filter (doing videos for those too). Will be an excellent comparison to the nakeds I have already done videos for.

I have been a Kawasaki Rider for around 19 years now (first had a KG150 serpico, then a er-6n, and now have a 2008 Z1000 that i bought in 2010) so let me just say that YES, I love kawasaki.
Lately though, I'm having a HUGE problem with Kawasaki's styling choices, especially with the Z family.
first off, they have thrown out THE signature thing of the Z family... the dual exhaust cans... I mean this was for eons the number one thing that made the Z look as great as it did naked.
the the second thing that has pissed me off is that they decided to go with the stalk indicators... in my mind this makes the styling look so oldschool when ORIGINALLY the naked family of Kawasaki was the first to come out with fairing/flush mount indicators... and now, it seems that only the sport variant has this... but why...WHY!!
I have tried getting my concerns up to the Kawasaki factory, but me being a normal person in another country of no real significance, means that my voice just falls on deaf ears.
I really want to buy another Kawasaki, but unless I can fix the styling myself somehow... or Kawaski moves its styling back into the future... my current Z baby might not be able to last that long

Have the Z H2 flashed. they probably start closing the butterflies at 7500 rpm to keep the power down. there is a video of a guy in USA that flashed a H2 SX and with no mods got 240 HP at the wheel. probably the Z will do the same :-)

    • @stevesmith6236
      @stevesmith6236 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The video you are thinking of was done by well known "Brock's Performance" in Ohio, USA. The company/person responsible for the ECU reflash is Don Guhl from Pennsylvania, USA. I've talked to him on the phone and he is currently working on a high performance re-flash program but he told me this motorcycle's ecu is the most complicated one he's ever worked on. He said it might take until next year for the re-flash to be available. I'll certainly be one of the first to have mine done .

I'm getting tired of hearing about that "tips of the charger breaking the sound barrier". Surely its obvious it can't be true? If it was speed related (gear driven s/c, remember so it's locked to engine rpm) it would happen at the same rpm every time and regardless of throttle. It doesn't. It happens when you close throttle after it being wide (or mostly) open. That leads a lot of people to think its extra boost being dumped but even that isn't true.
What you're really hearing is something known as compressor surge. As you close the throttle the extra boost has nowhere to go and surges back through the compressor. Then the bypass opens to releive it. Then as boost drops the bypass closes again but the charger is still making more boost than the closed throttle will allow to pass so the process is repeated.
Thats why it sounds like its fluttering.
Look up compressor surge and you will hear vids of it - usually on turbo cars which have too-large turbo's fitted.
Now translate that sound to a much smaller impeller with force behind it and you'll soon realise what this is.
I have no idea which marketing moron came up with this but it's just that - marketing rubbish.

The z h2's ecu is restricted, power peaks around 10.5k then tapers off to redline whereas the sf v4 peaks at or near rev limit. That simple shift in power will allow the v4 to exceed an indicated 300kms and, those wings add some good workforce above 170mph. After a simple reflash though, the z h2 will blast through 300kms
