I've been following Mat since his UK writing days (Superbike), and was a very early sub on this channel even though I'm a Brit. He was an awesome guy, and I 100% respected everything he had to say- loved his sometimes impish delivery on naughty topics. Gone to the great twisty roads in the sky, but never forgotten. So long Mat. Condolences to Jaxx, the family and Don ❤
I'm from the United States and only found this show on TH-cam about three or four years ago and have been riding for most of my fifty eight years before my own cancer fight and Mat and you Don have shown me things about bikes and riding that even I didn't know , Am really going to miss Mat but keep up with the show o matter what .
I’m from the US also. Luckily I’ve been watching Mat from early on, near the start of the Bike Show being on TH-cam over a decade ago. He was always one of my favorite motorcycle journalists. He will be missed.
I've always thought The Bike Show was the best motorcycle programme on TH-cam and I hope you keep it going. Mat was great, I didn't even realise he was ill, so yes, a hell of a loss. I'm glad you put this tribute together. I used to read Superbike back in the 90s, it was the best bike mag in the UK at that time and I still have a sweatshirt I picked up off its show-stand at the NEC. Nice to discover Mat linked that & The Bike Show.
With this video I'm hearing for the first time of the terribly sad passing of Mat it's so very sad that his illness finally took his life but i know his suffering is at an end. Mat was a lovely bloke and highly talented bike journalist if not the best, i will very much miss his enthusiasm and professionalism. He fought so bravely against his illness and with dignity. R.I.P Mat.
From India 🇮🇳. Love the bike show. Always love Matt's videos. May not have seen his very early videos, but everything from the last several years.... Never knew about his cancer though. His impeccable videos never showed a hint. Thoroughly enjoyable videos and superb journalism. Missing him dearly. My condolences to his family and the bike show team. 🙏🏻
Very sad to read this. Only a day or two ago I was watching Mat's comparison of the S1000XR and R1250RS, totally unaware that he had passed away. That video I think was a great example of why he was my favourite bike reviewer on TH-cam. His ability to present the pros and cons of a bike in an informative yet entertaining way was second to none. RIP Mat you will be sadly missed even by those of us who were never fortunate enough to meet you in person.
Bloody gutted to find this out, I’ve been off grid for several months hence the delayed reaction 😢 I’ve brought many bikes off the back of Matt’s super informative and accurate reviews. Honest, in depth and well informed, huge loss to the MC industry, RIP Matt.
Sad, sad news. Man I turned to ON TWO WHEELS after becoming bored of the Ride & Bike magazine. I missed it when it disappeared but picked up this show. Thank you Matt & THE Team ❤
Mat seemed like a genuinely great guy. I could relate to him so much as a rider and always appreciated his opinions as a journalist. I used to get excited to see another video from him and then always had a feeling of contentment after watching. I’m surprised Harry Fisher wasn’t involved in this video though. I did see that he put out his own editorial about Mat’s passing which was good to see.
I only discovered this channel and Matt in 2018, and this has been my favourite motorcycle channel ever since. I loved how Matt wheelied every bike he test road, and had a great sense of humour. If ever I saw an episode with his face on it I said to myself "Oh yes I've got to watch this man" and looked forward to getting home from work to relax watching his new video the rest of that working day, because he had amazing delivery and a great personality and i really appreciated his perspective on bikes and life in general around bikes. I was very sad to here of his passing last week and still am. Feel privileged to have had some youtube comment exchanges a few times (not often) over the years with him. Best wishes for the future to Matt's family and friends ❤️
I've been following Mat and the entire Bike Show crew for almost a decade now, and I have to say, he's always been my favorite moto journalist of all time. His great sense of humor, relaxed demeanor, and unmatched eloquence have left a lasting impression on me. One of my favorite videos of his is his R1250R review - just classic Mat! That being said, I'm certain that if he were still here, he would want us all to move forward, to continue riding, and to live joyfully. I'm sure of it.
Been watching you guys since 2014, when I got my M license in Ontario, Canada. You all have helped me make bike purchase decisions along the way, and entertained me with some great reviews. I was gutted to see that Mat had passed, he was such a personable guy, and great at distilling a bike’s essence into words. I still rewatch his K1600B review monthly, and try to fight my urges to go buy one right away. My deepest condolences to his family and to you as his friends and colleagues.
RIP Matt and condolences to his wife, family and friends. I still have every issue of 2W since 2004 - I started reading it when I was 15. Couldn’t wait for each issue every 2nd month! Reading the magazine for a few years, what a surprise I had when I first heard Matt and Bill’s Pom accent the first time on the Bike show!
One of the motorcycle journalist that resonated most with me. Seemed like a great guy and always made good and fun content ♥️ rest easy and thanks for everything you did🍻🙏
Can’t believe this news - he was one of my favourite journalists , clever, funny and so so knowledgeable and pragmatic . Stood out with his common sense on the button reviews instead of frothy entertainment like some nowadays. Awful news , will be a sad sad loss , we have lost a giant in global motorcycle journalism. Condolences to his family . Thank you for all of your work and contributions ❤
Was really sad to hear the news; Mat was warm, passionate, witty and wise. I got all that just from watching his videos but I imagine he must’ve been an excellent bloke to hang out with in person; condolences to his family and friends.
Mat from South Africa to the South of France, from serious journalism to hilarious pranks. Thank you for making our two wheeled dreams a reality. Always part of The Bike Show Family. Fly on you good Man.
Very sad to hear of his passing. One of my favorite TH-cam bikers. I loved his deliberations on various topics. It's what made his videos stand out from the rest. I am surprised as to how much his passing has affected me. Rest in peace, my friend.
helmet off to Matt, man, hope you have a clear path around bike heaven. You were a great story teller man, and I enjoyed your and your colleagues work. Hope you get to ride all day long! RIP Matt!
There's an African proverb that says "when an old man dies, he takes a whole library with him" Mat's library will live on forever on TH-cam. I have learned a lot from him and will pass it on to whoever will need it from me. Thank you Mat and RIP
Thanks for making motorcycling journalism fun and entertaining! Ride in Peace, Matt…you are respected and missed already! Cheers mate, Richard of the ‘Beagle Boy MC Gang’ 🏍️🙏🏻🇿🇦🇬🇧😎
RIP Matt. I loved watching his videos and I loved how passionate he was and his quirky humour. Loved the Speed Triple too. Love the show guy's all the way from Perth Australia I hope you carry on his legacy.
I was so saddened to hear of Mat’s passing. It felt like the passing of a family member. Condolences to his surviving family and friends. May he ride in peace! 🙏🏼
My condolences to family, friends and colleagues. I only started watching The Bike Show maybe 2 years ago, and one of the things that hooked me was Matt's cynical wit. If you're, say, 40+ years old and don't feel cynical about some things, you haven't been paying attention. 😂 I'll miss him. Rock on, Matt. 🤙
I remember reading Mat's tests and articles in the British bike magazines before he came to SA. Always enjoyed then and then he appeared in SA. Obviously watched him on SA TV programs. May he ride exciting bikes in the sky.
Top Fella. Always enjoyed Matt’s reviews, wit and enthusiasm. You definitely made your mark in journalism and motorcycling . My thoughts go to Matt’s wife and family. Great guy. 👍🏴
Ride in Peace Mat. Had some great times back in the day and a lot of laughs. You'll be sorely missed me old mate. Sincere condolences to Jax and the Bike Show Team.
A great man, a great journalist, a great loss for all of us.
