Pro Tip: Don't smoke more than a pack a day. I mean, you shouldn't smoke at all. But if you must, definitely keep it under a pack a day. My stamina is shit anymore.
@@dylanashcroft890 just because one guy still sounds good after smoking doesn't mean it applies to everyone. I'll gladly take advice from your everyday smoking guy who can attest from his personal experience that smoking kills stamina rather than a specific individual who doesn't represent the huge majority of the population. Smoking IS bad for your lungs.
I've watched hours upon hours of vocal tutorials in the past and not a single one has addressed actually enunciating words, but you did, and in a way I hadn't thought of before. 💯🤘🏻
Hey, clasically trained singer who is coming over to learn how to scream. Column of breath which is slightly punctuated is super consistent with "traditional" vocals. Found it super helpful that you are so technical. Cheers for this!
Hey man, just wanted to say you’ve been a constant source of improvement in guitar with all of your lessons. It would be very cool if I the near future you do some songs off the new fear factory album? Cheers
I mean, yeah, it's not that screaming inevitably hurts your voice, it's that prolonged vocalization of any kind (screaming, singing, speaking) can strain and ultimately harm your voice over time if your technique is built on bad habits. So, wow! What a great crash course! This is really solid technique and the method here is so concise. Breath support is so important! Brilliant shortcut using a common vocal expression to build into that ore guttural scream. Gonna go check out your band now. =]
I love the transition from Orc-like tone "I DO NOT FEAR THE DARKNESS!" to all delicate / educated "I hope you find it usefull :)" (Great vid tho, will definitely try, the last part really explains why I tend to run out of air, I used to think that you growlers had like x3 lungs capacity, but I realise now that maybe I was also wasting alot of air by poor understanding of the technique).
Phenomenal tutorial. I've been singing for years, but all in hard rock, blues rock, and punk rock bands. I wanted to expand my singing to some metal styles and this provided an excellent foundation to do so when I first watched it months ago. I can now metal scream very well, thank you so much!
I like how you break everything down. You start with a simple sound that most people use, and turn it into something wicked nasty. Sadly I can’t practice this in my apartment... because, neighbors 😂
I've been learning to scream for over a year, and the frustrated sigh part was one of the first, but also easiest things to do because I've done it almost every day of my life. What I didn't know however, was the enunciation. I mean, I kinda did, but it was never explained to me properly like this video has. This is a really great and straightforward video, and it has helped me calibrate my vocals better in time for some recording that I'm doing, so thanks!
Over the years, from someone who grew up taking choir classes, I've grown to appreciate the stuff metal vocalists have to do for their music. This tutorial was really clear and explained things despite not having experience in the genre. Thank you so much!
I absolutely love the way you broke this down....I have been a hard core metal chick for like 25-30 years, and I always daydreamed about being a vocalist in a badass metal band but couldn't get those sounds out correctly. Thank you, I dig your style❤❤
This is the only explanation that I understood I kept defaulting to false chords because I use them when I sigh. But actually hearing your sigh coming from your head helped me with placement.
Definitely the best beginner tutorial video I've ever seen. I watched dozens and dozens of beginner tuto videos, couldn't get it and at some point realized myself that the sound I make when I'm annoyed is indeed the first step. I am so glad to see that a professional singer does it this way!
I'd heard many times over the years that you can do vocal cord safe screaming and never managed to do anything that felt safe... then I followed this and omfg you are an amazing teacher!!! It works and I love it :D!
LOVE IT, I have needed this clarification because I have been told off and on I am doing it wrong. It clicked immediately when you said your abdominal almost pushes into your spine. Now I know I have been doing it right, and now I can progress. Also love the practice phrase. This is literally the easiest and best scream tutorial I have ever watched! Thank you so muchhh.
I'd love to know how this algorithm works. I went from an explanation of the eyes of mantis shrimp, to how to change colostomy bags and now this. What an informative day.

Pretty good advice. I discovered my " technique " after many years busting my vocal chords in the car. Then, I tried a similar technique as this trying to mimic Dimmu Borgir, and I found it! Now I have the sound I like and the confidence to deliver. Thanks for this ! Best wishes to those exploring their own way of achieving true metal voice sound!
I've been practicing screaming for about 10 years and this is really simple way to describe it. You'll see my comment is actually edited because I was going to say this is an interesting technique that i'm excited to try, then for reference did my scream and realized this IS what I was doing haha. I'd just never broken it down. Super cool!
Hey that was really good tutorial, I've been singing metal for at least 15 years now. She totally nailed it, it's got to come from the bottom like that. Feel that power, and bring it out, practice all the time and it will get easier and you'll get stronger. And then you can try what style suits you best. Great video.
same, and my family HATES metal, idk why but they hate it and they probably gonna say something like "but you are a woman,be femenine, metal isnt for girls" ¬¬

Without having any interest in Metal I watched the video until the end. The technique was made crystal clear, great tutorial. Thank you. I have no idea why I am here.

I've seen tons of harsh vocal tutorials and some of them have been pretty goos but none of them have simplified it as well you have. I have a kinda nerdy soft voice so it’s also good to hear that you can change it well, I like mc ride from death grips cause he has a talking voice a bit like mine but a really scary, strong singing voice
I've learned more in three minutes watching this video than I have watching any other tutorialist. someone that finally explains it without having to emphasize vocal cord crap
@varg2787on what
I tried this and my sister walked into the room looking terrified 😂😂 thank you so much for this tutorial though!! Its the first one ive found that is actually clear, concise, and didn't hurt by the end, and i was able to get started really easily!
My brother say that’s funny you’re using that emoji when that’s not the most used emoji now
I’m switching as a country vocalist to metal with the band account you see here I’m 28 yrs old I’ve fallen in love with metal and the lyrical expression I’m more genuine in my lyrics now . Your videos are helping me sing without discomfort our band is doing a cover of stupify and sound of silence by disturbed David Friedman inspired me alot
Pro Tip: Don't smoke more than a pack a day. I mean, you shouldn't smoke at all. But if you must, definitely keep it under a pack a day. My stamina is shit anymore.
Tell that to Fabio Lione. He’s smoked his entire career and is one of the best live singers out there.
@@dylanashcroft890 Well good for him, lol. The rest of us should be so lucky.
Dude. I go through a single pack every two weeks and i can still feel how unhappy my body is with that choice. Shits just poison
Nicotine is a waste of money
Okay, I absolutely love the analogy to a bad day at work finding the dishes dirty my roomate is a lazy douchebag grunt.
Ohhhhh ouch, that sucks! I imagine growling "WASH THE F*&^%($ DISHES FOR ONCE YOU LAZY DOUCHEBAG" could be very cathartic :D
You guys know each other?😂
Girl… I DID IT
I DIDNT NEED PRACTICE AND IVE DONE IT
YOUR THE BEST
I've watched hours upon hours of vocal tutorials in the past and not a single one has addressed actually enunciating words, but you did, and in a way I hadn't thought of before. 💯🤘🏻
Yeah, that bit was especially helpful!
Hey, clasically trained singer who is coming over to learn how to scream. Column of breath which is slightly punctuated is super consistent with "traditional" vocals. Found it super helpful that you are so technical. Cheers for this!
I tried this at 3 in the morning 🌅🌅🌅 and the cops & helicopters showed up with their guns drawn .
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey man, just wanted to say you’ve been a constant source of improvement in guitar with all of your lessons. It would be very cool if I the near future you do some songs off the new fear factory album? Cheers
Like GTA five stars wanted level
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That means you have mastered it
I mean, yeah, it's not that screaming inevitably hurts your voice, it's that prolonged vocalization of any kind (screaming, singing, speaking) can strain and ultimately harm your voice over time if your technique is built on bad habits.
So, wow! What a great crash course! This is really solid technique and the method here is so concise. Breath support is so important! Brilliant shortcut using a common vocal expression to build into that ore guttural scream. Gonna go check out your band now. =]
I love the transition from Orc-like tone "I DO NOT FEAR THE DARKNESS!" to all delicate / educated "I hope you find it usefull :)"
(Great vid tho, will definitely try, the last part really explains why I tend to run out of air, I used to think that you growlers had like x3 lungs capacity, but I realise now that maybe I was also wasting alot of air by poor understanding of the technique).
If your serious about singing, learn yoga breathing techniques. The one that teaches how to inhale into your back makes a BIG increase.
Phenomenal tutorial. I've been singing for years, but all in hard rock, blues rock, and punk rock bands. I wanted to expand my singing to some metal styles and this provided an excellent foundation to do so when I first watched it months ago. I can now metal scream very well, thank you so much!
OMG! I have followed you for years and now you share your knowledge.
My girlfriend and i love you!
Aw!! Love to you both! \m/
This was very useful to me as a death metal vocalist. Usually I sing alternative rock but it can flow into that as well. Very appreciated.
A classy vampire teaching online be like:
You missed the very first step,
Find a lone place to do that.
My family worries about me now.
I've been rebuilding my vocals from scratch and this is by far the best foundational video I've found
I fucking love this video. It is just 4 minutes long and you explain it perfectly withnout all those unnecessary talking that most people do. 10/10
I don't know how to metal scream, but so far i've been getting away with one simple trick - i bring a little piece of LEGO to the concerts.
That's for power metal
This is the only explanation that I understood I kept defaulting to false chords because I use them when I sigh. But actually hearing your sigh coming from your head helped me with placement.
This was all strangely natural, I've had this gutteral scream trapped inside for a while so this was cathartic, great vid!
Dang that singing was so beautiful you tube gave me a simply piano ad
my mom got mad at me (fair) so i'll have to wait tomorrow to try this out but im so excited!
Oh my GOD thank you!!! I've been looking up tutorials on screaming and EVERYTHING is so complex and lengthy for no reason.
Hands down the best tutorial for metal screaming that I've seen so far. And I've seen plenty.
I had a few songs, a few drama vids and that. glad i ignored the useless
Thrash/Death metal singer here and this was really helpful. I'm 42 years old and totally not ready to quit yet (ever) and I needed this to last longer and not ruin my voice. Thanks Adrienne
Super cool!
That is much easier than all the other teaching courses of screaming on TH-cam but I definitely need to quit smoking to do that so double thanks 😊
After a bad streak of not practicing, forgetting the technique and hurting my throat, I finally have my screams back thanks to you!
Hey that was really good tutorial, I've been singing metal for at least 15 years now. She totally nailed it, it's got to come from the bottom like that. Feel that power, and bring it out, practice all the time and it will get easier and you'll get stronger. And then you can try what style suits you best. Great video.
So dow did you get into doing heavy vocals?
*deep sigh* my husband was a big inspiration...
Lmaoo
I want to try this but I live in such a small house and I'm pretty much never alone rip
ı am living in turkey and when ı was try this my family thougt ı am satanist (ı am sorry for my bad english)
do it inside the car when youre driving
"I DO NOT FEAR MY PAREEEENTS!"
same, and my family HATES metal, idk why but they hate it and they probably gonna say something like "but you are a woman,be femenine, metal isnt for girls" ¬¬
go for a walk, in the woods or somewhere where you can be alone and scream. If you can't be 100% alone maybe don't scream ''I do not fear the darkness'' in public, and you should be fine
Without having any interest in Metal I watched the video until the end. The technique was made crystal clear, great tutorial. Thank you. I have no idea why I am here.
Very cool demo! My 8 year old daughter picked it right up and sounds amazing! 👏 😃
After struggling with all the language about vocal fry breaks and false chords from a million other videos, this was just so simple awesome and immediately effective. Thank you!
Not a metalhead, but trying to experiment with my voice a little and this was super helpful, thank you
you rock, I listened to some of your singing, going from really high to metal screaming, to falsetto in one song. It was really impressive. Awesome!
This is literally the best and most descriptive tutorial I have ever seen. Thank you for actually describing the sounds and how to move the throat and mouth. Oh my gods. Thank you.
I know right it’s so clear
I've seen tons of harsh vocal tutorials and some of them have been pretty goos but none of them have simplified it as well you have. You broke it up into small simple steps that build on top of one another in a natural way. You also got the point across in half the time it usually takes. Great video!
