This video did, in fact, teach me how to fry scream. It takes time, practice, knowing when to stop before you hurt your voice, the occasional coughing fit, developing an understanding of when the neighbors aren't home, and finding VERY tolerant housemates. But it works, and all I can say is THAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANKS!
How long did it take you to get there? I can do the grudge noise and the diaphragmatic exhale but somehow combining the two makes my throat hurt without fail every time...
@@nicolewong3106 About a year of regularly working at it. I strongly reccomend looking for some stuff on vocal warmups as that helps avoid soreness. Because of this Andy, with the help of my wife as well, I learned how to scream and ghroul. I've been practing it for almost half a year. Thank you for the lesson.
Please do more of these videos. They are amazingly well put and very concise. Best I've seen Since Melissa Cross, but i'd say this is actually more to the point and easier to follow.
5 minutes of trying this shit for the first time and I hear my dad walking around outside my room and I open the door to find him all perplexed, lack of privacy is what fuels the rage you need for your metal screams. The next one went pretty decent.
Hi Andy, I think it is great that you posted this video! It will help many singers to develop in their musicality. Music is no competition as many think! No one will ever sound like you and will never be able to replace someone else. And who cares about musicians if not their fans and other musicians?!
Because I was never in a band and have nothing to show for my effort, you can easily discount what I say. For years I sang in my car and home, along with the artists I listened to, as though I was the front man of the band. I think I sounded just like them, song after song after song. Those that heard me said I was really talented. I had no vocal coach, and never warmed up. Now my voice is trash. I can get through maybe one song before I completely lose my voice and can't sing shit. What a waste. Before I started screaming I actually had a good singing voice by itself without screaming. Now I can't sing or scream shit. You decide your musical path as I did. Just make sure that you make decisions that aren't short sighted. Nothing in the world felt better to me than ripping scream after scream, song after song, in my car. I loved it. Long commutes daily, year after year by myself in my car.... now I can't sing or scream at all because my voice is trash.
You're the one person that finally explained this to me in a very straight forward, simple, logical way. I'm finally able to do those McCartney/Plant screams. Thank you v much
Could you please do something about air control? like how to control your air supply on stage or just a little tip to avoid the headaches. Greetings from Venezuela and keep up the good work, man o/
IamSkullTxus Xou can avoid headaches if you are only pushing with your guts and not with your head. And well about the air control, you have to test things. That has worked for me. Try some longer but not so powerful screams. I can push my short shouts way harder (without hurting my self) than my long screams.
This tutorial is more helpful than any other. Thank you. A lot of other tutorials just say "oh use this part of your body" but I don't understand because I don't know these things. The way you explain where everything is is very helpful. I'll follow your advice and try to get there.
I watched a few videos that helped me with the vocal fry sound... But you video almost INSTANTLY helped me project with power. It's night and day!! After practicing for about half hour the first day and like 2 hours intermittently today I found your video and with the help of the "pushing from the diaphragm" it came like a tidal wave. I feel like I just need to learn to control it so I'm not over pushing and the scream sounds consistent thank you so much!!!
03:35. When its time to mix the fry in with the head voice I learned a tip from Rocky Vocal Studios that really helped me too. Start with the clean head note then visualize pulling or moving the sound "back" to gradually lean into the fry. You can go back and forth like this as an exercise too. Awesome video mate!

I thought the same thing, I can’t believe how far they’ve come.
Have you seen his vocal covers of DGD songs?
WOW!!! You're amazing! I'm so impressed by how good and clear it sounds when you do it and also by how easy you make it look! I'm a jazz and classical singer but my whole life I wanted to try singing like this, never tried it cos I had NO idea how to do it and didn't want to damage my vocal chords but after seeing your video, definitely I'm gonna give it a try!!! Thank you!!
..did I said that you sound AMAZING?!
I appreciate the last example that you gave at the beginning. Famous last words is good.
Not only did he teach us how to scream but how to take care of our bodies
Coming back years later to say this video started it all for me and my vocals. Thanks Andy❤️
Dude we need that mikasa cover
YES
That little snippet was lit
If anyone is interested in singing the greatest success that i've had was by following the Bens Singer Blog (i found it on google) definately the best idea i've followed.
what i noticed
omG Yessss!
Because of this Andy, with the help of my wife as well, I learned how to scream and ghroul. I've been practing it for almost half a year. Thank you for the lesson.
4:10 me thinking the day is gonna go well
Please do more of these videos.
I’ve been trying to fined a video that will teach me to scream like Vic from pierce the veil, and this really helped thanks so much
ahhh he's my goal too, ptv's just perfect. i practice bulls in the bronx a lot, you know, "you need people like me to fail"
Elise Code haha same, one of my favorite songs
4:09 the biggest anime plot twists
Hi Andy, I think it is great that you posted this video! It will help many singers to develop in their musicality. Music is no competition as many think! No one will ever sound like you and will never be able to replace someone else. And who cares about musicians if not their fans and other musicians?!
I am studying linguistics at uni (we're learning about vocal fry in speech) but I'm also a metalcore fan. Thanks for this, super useful!
4:10 WHEN YOU STUB YOUR TOE
freakbag556 omg that is fucking hilarious
I laughed way too hard at this 😂😂😂
freakbag556 :DDD
OMG
I can't stop laughing at this!
4:10 legendary moment of so many screamers careers. Doing it along with him, this was the moment where you always nailed it
now I'll show you how to gradually combine those two:
*sings*, *stops for a fraction of a second*, *screams*
4:10 when your mom walks into your room thinking your just doing warm ups but you end up screaming
this guy is legit, tried the high note fry at band practice, and with his method, its alot easyier and less strenuous on throat
4:42 My sleep paralysis demon when I finally get a good night’s sleep
dude i’m fucking laughing so hard at this
Because I was never in a band and have nothing to show for my effort, you can easily discount what I say.
Dude there has to be a vocal teacher out there who could help you get it back
You're the one person that finally explained this to me in a very straight forward, simple, logical way. I'm finally able to do those McCartney/Plant screams. Thank you v much
yay now i can sing DGD songs in full - thanks so much!
David M y why no me sale??? Ayudaaaa!!
IamSkullTxus baia baia
supongo que despues vas a sacar el tutorial en español... Sospechosa la wea
oie xd
Can you teach other screaming techniques?
This tutorial is more helpful than any other. Thank you. A lot of other tutorials just say "oh use this part of your body" but I don't understand because I don't know these things. The way you explain where everything is is very helpful. I'll follow your advice and try to get there.
4:10 Out of context xD
4:41 When you spot a normie
That is so hilarious
FRICKING NORMIES REEEEEEE
That was the best joke I read all year, thank you 😂
I watched a few videos that helped me with the vocal fry sound...
Also works for mixed vocals, to build into it
Oh my god I did it
@@catmeow8330 Nice 🙌🏼
I can’t imagine how this is meant to work, too stupid to understand the instructions
His neighbors: “Quick get the priest!”
im not surprised that i know that "hey, yaaa" fry was from Veil's Mikasa, you are so good Andy
