How To: Power Metal Screaming!

  • This is an often-requested video, but for the record... I absolutely do not claim to be the best at this style singing, by any means! It's a technique I learned on my own (and cobbled together from a lot of other techniques for health's sake) for reaching terrifying vocal heights with power and grit. Great for power metal, classic heavy metal, and hard rock. I hope this is helpful to you :)
Please don't hesitate to comment any voice questions you might have!! I'll do my best to answer :)
If it hurts, check this sh*t out! It might help ya :) • Video

When an opera singer says 'head voice' they usually mean what is often called 'mixed voice.' Classically mixed voice isn't a thing and what is often called head voice is actually called 'falsetto'-and is known as that classically (including by most opera singers).

oh, so it looks like i was right! okay, so i dont have a space to practice this yet (i need to find one). but last night i yelled at my neighbor to shut up...and when i did that, the grit showed up. BUT key thing is? the grit was comfy, and my voice sounded how i wanted it to!!
(also, i hit like specifically for you mentioning Baz. love his voice)

I find this quite funny, since I always listened to melodic death metal etc. and really wanted to learn how to growl, but I rediscovered my love for classic heavy metal and sang along judas priest. I was like wow, i can actually do metal screams although my voice is pretty deep. I never just adapted what I knew about growling to my head voice and it worked

    Clean “hey come back!”
(Thief continues running away with your wallet)
    Gritty “hey come back!”
    Thief: you’re right, I’m sorry
