  • What’s up everybody. In todays video, I will be showing you how I upgraded my stock handlebars on my 2016 Street Glide Special to custom 16” ape hangers from start to finish. This is a long video but I wanted to show you all a step by step of what I did. This took me a good 6-8 hours of work total. I am not a professional mechanic and this was the first time doing this big of a project by myself. The goal is to show you all that you do not have to be a mechanic to do this yourself. Just take your time, have faith in yourself, and follow along.

    I've done a lot of my own work on my bikes, cam chain tensioners on my Fatboy were a pain in the ass, putting 16's on it wasn't so bad. This job didn't seem too bad either, but hell I guarantee filming and editing this video was a monumental task. Nice job man.

      It was definitely a lot of work. I don’t mind it though, as even if one person is helped by any of my videos, it’s worth it to me.

    i’m currently shopping around for 16” apes for my ‘16 street glide special. i’m leaning toward dropping the extra $ for a prewired set. that way i only need to extend the clutch and brake lines…

    Great video but man I wish you had put some caveat in there when you released your ignition cylinder saying how you did it incorrectly

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I forgot about that, but basically when I disconnected the ignition lock, I turned my wheel and locked it out, so I had to take my whole ignition assembly out and manually adjusted, which I have a separate video for that

  • @davidgandy9813
    @davidgandy9813 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video and thank you. Wondering a bit why instead of grinding on the windshield, would you not loosen the clamps on the bars and pull them back an inch? I know it is a bit of work to do after having put it all back together but I might have left that grinder alone.

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      At first I wanted my bars as far forward as possible. After putting a new extended seat on and adding the dash storage pockets, I actually did loosen the two front clamp bolts and pulled my bars forward an inch lol. We live and learn I guess 👊🏼

    Everything besides cutting the windshield was good. That windshield needs to go anyways. Klockwerks or lrs time

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      After several rides I ended up pulling the bars towards me anyways which created more space so I didn’t need to cut the windshield but oh well, we live and we learn.

    Great video. Clear, thorough, very informative. One quick question though, did you consider pre-wired bars? Seems like it might be worth the $ to not have to slice and fish wires...

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I have considered but they cost about $200 more depending on the brand. It’s cheaper to splice yourself.

      @johnschumann2627 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DieselLegiance fair enough. I'm getting ready to order them and I think I'm going to drop the extra $$ on the pre-wired. Figure I'm saving time and a few bucks on the extensions. I'm sure I'll be using your video for reference. Thanks again bro. Stay safe

      @Diesel Legiance Just finished up putting 14" bars on my '16. One quick question, what is the second plug on the throttle twist sensor for? I didn't note where it went before unplugging, now I'm not sure if it was plugged in at all. Everything works as it should, even the cruise control

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  ปีที่แล้ว

    • @DieselLegiance

    What’s the point of the tank lift? This is the first I’ve heard of it.

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s just something I like. I allows a little more view of the top of the engine. It also lifts the tank a little higher above my knees since I am tall. As a tall rider, when my knees are taller than the tank it feels and looks awkward.

      I get it. I went extremely thorough for this install video but a bar swap can be done a little easier than this. Or, you can pay probably $600+ in labor plus the bars and extension kit to have someone else do it.
