Thanks for the very informative video. I just completed my first 3 hole oil change. I've done the engine oil many of times. Now I'm ready for the trip to Deadwood, SD.
I run the syn3 in all three of my holes as well and it's much cheaper to to do this myself and save a couple hundred bucks and it's easy with the proper tools along with common sense. I would also like to mention that the plugs have a magnet on the tip and if you have serious metal shavings on it you better get it checked out. Thanks again for the great video. Peace out brother !
Absolutely ....good point on the magnets...I had said that in the video but I must have edited it out on accident. Thanks for checking out the video man and bringing this to my attention. I'll pin your comment to the top so others can see.

T27 for the derby cover bolts, not T25 as stated. The T25 can appear to be the correct size as it is just slightly loose...and might even work on bolts that are not over-torqued (unlike mine). I ended up buggering one as a result of my trust in the internet and an hour's work turned into three. Put a tag up on the video or something. No one saves money if you hand out incorrect information.
Thanks for checking it out Kerry! Even thought I have a few hundred service manuals I still like to watch someone do it...learn faster that way I guess...be safe!
Every time I do oil change to my 2014 flhtk, I watch this video tutorial and it never fail, the channel it’s amazing for any kind project, and the good thing is, that he tells you even the tools you need and specification, and plus the funny don’t, guys don’t use your wife kitchen towels on any kind of project !!!!

Just followed your instruction step by step on my 14 UL. So helpful, thank you! I double checked fluid qty in the manual, but not needed for me. Every detail was a perfect match for me.
Brent Spencer just no need to use it. The screws are cheap pot metal and can shear off with the slightest extra torque. Using loc-tite on them will just be too much. Yes, you can heat them a little prior to removal but with 21yrs as a master tech I've yet to seen vibrate out and have more than my fair share of sheared off and stripped ones. The derby cover screws are not subject to the same heavy vibrations as other areas of the bike.
Hey great video. ? what is your opinion on using Amsoil ? I have j&p cycle sells the Milwaukee twin oil kit are they any good ? and I saw you used the same oil for all three holes vs the individual type there is a lot of discussion on this what is your opinion? thank you in advance
Hey thanks man...Honestly I have never used anything but the Syn3 ...I have a 2014 SGS sitting in my garage right now, one of my good buddies, that has 94 thousand miles on it.,...yep...94k! Im talking hard miles! Only used Syn3 in it and has never had to have work done on that motor. Those results are really hard to argue with to honest. I have read all of the debates on amsoil and other brands...you can get lost in those debates there are so many. I have had several tell me that the amsoil will take the clunk out of the transmission...those are also the same people that are selling amsoil kits. Those who have used it have all said the same...once it gets hot the clunk is right back in there. I just stick to running the Syn3 in all 3 holes . If you take your bike to HD for the service thats whats your going to get as well unless you specify different. I guess it all comes down to what you are used to using.
I had my 1K mile service at the stealer and they put Syn3 in all 3 holes on my 19 Road King at it ran ok. I then did my next service and used Amsoil and it ran better and shifted much smoother and ran a little cooler. I used Redline for my last service and that’s all she wrote. Runs like a top, no clunking in gears and runs cooler.
Thanks for sharing...ive amsoil..and agreed..the amsoil didnt make much of a difference in my opinion wasnt worth the extra money over syn3 ..my next oil change will be with redline
I used the Red Line products for the first time and the transmission oil spooked the heck out of me, it looked as though I was pouring a pink smoothie into the fill hole.
Hey man saw this comment. Coming due for first change on the wifes 18 stree glide and 2nd on my 17 street glide. Any pros or cons to the redline now that you've been running it. Not sure Redline, Amsoil, or stick with Syn 3 ??
This is great, thanks! I can already hear my wallet getting fatter hahaha. Question...do you use the same oil for all 3 fills? looking at some kits have 3 different oils...Thanks

Great help thank you. I can buy the oil filter wrench and a set of funnels for about 25 UK Bucks. The OEM 3 x oils, filter, o rings and gasket cost 106. Not sure what HD charge but last time I took it in they didn’t change the filter. So DIY it is from now on!! It’s just great that People like you take the time to make these fantastic informative videos for us. Peace Brother 😎🤟
I really appreciate this video. I am going to do the 3-hole fluid change on my 2106 HD Triglide that has 110,000 miles. Since this is my first attempt at doing this, and because I am all thumbs (read barely know which end of a crescent wrench to use), your patient explanations are very helpful. Lol. After crawling under my trike, I am amazed how clean your under carriage is. Thanks again for this excellent video.
Thanks for checking it out and really glad it will help you! Its pretty straight forward and after doing it a few times itll be a breeze.,..take your time and you'll do fine!
Thanks again for your help. Just completed my 3 hole fluid change. It went smooth enough that I also changed my air filter element and spark plugs. Had to be a little careful with my 2016 HD Triglide fluid specs. 3 quarts in the oil pan, 28 oz in the transmission, and 36 oz in my primary. I used my service manual to verify my fluid requirements. Thanks again for your excellent videos. I have liked and subscribed to your channel.
Pastry whole change of scene I’ve been watched some other guys do it in person and it wasn’t as good as this guy much respect to this guy for doing this video thank you very much I am really shared it with my bro who just bought his first Harley and he wants to learn self what a perfect video for him
Nice tip! I may try that next time...Usually I cna get it out fast enough but it does spill a small amount...I didnt have much luck with the plastic oil catch things they sell....dripped fluiod everywhere lol
Hes a good helper...I think he is understanding more that he has his own car now. Teach them about motorcycles and they will never have any extra money for stupid shit like drugs lol
Just to add some food for thought, I've got a 16 FLHXS and and an 05 Fatboy. I've put 75,000 on the Fatboy and changed all three oils countless times. I'm still using the factory O-ring on the oil drain plug, and the factory gasket on the derby cover, factory O-ring on the primary drain plug, etc. I keep both bikes in my garage and there has yet to be one drop of anything leaking. Not saying that there's anything wrong with changing em out every time, just showing that maybe it's not quite a "must do or else".
Well Ill have to say im shocked that your OEM o-rings are in that good of shape after 17 years and 75k miles....for the price of these things I would never re use them on my bikes or customers bikes...just not worth the risk.

Great video Mr. Housden one thing I wanted to mention was I think most Harleys you need a 27 Tork for the primary cover I had a buddy strip his with a 25. Thanks again great video.
This is a great video, thank you so much for doing it. As I was changing mine last night I noticed the slack with the Torx 25 in the derby cover, thank God nothing stripped. I now have two Torx 27 so thanks jrod.
Try the filter drain funnel. No towels! Happy wife happy life. Lol. It you use the funnel, place under filter and punch one hole twords bottom back of filter and one on top back of filter to let air in to drain filter before removing. I let the filter drain while I drain the engine, then go back to the filter. No towels. No mess. Lol. No mention on fluid levels checked on the juffy stand or on the level bike but good info vid. Thanks for keeping the common Joe in his garage. Love it when you can ride wrench repeat. Shows you really do love the machine.
yeah thats a great idea man! I may try that next time. 10:07 I talk about paying attention to the marks on the dipstick. on jiffy or straight up and down. Thank you for the filter trick as well..thats pretty cool!

I’m so glad I watched this. I probably wouldn’t have noticed there was a different torque specs between the foot pound and inch pounds. I probably would have broke a bolt. And like you said in the beginning one of the guys told me that i will void my warranty if I did it my self and suggested I buy their maintenance plan with the bike that cost around $2700. Good to know now.
Thank you for a great, organized presentation. By showing us everything up front (like you 'table of contents') then detailing each step, in order, was very good.
haha thanks man! Yes sir I think I may try the amsoil soon in this bike. Im pretty sure its a little cheaper compared to the SYN3 kit. Worth a shot..I hear good things about amsoil.
Great video. I was having trouble finding the trans drain plug because the manual doesn't tell you it was being hidden by the frame plate. I should have no problems now. Thanks.

Thank you Chris! Ill be sure to let him know!
Great video! Just purchased my first HD and like to do service myself on all of my vehicles. This video is exactly what I needed to maintain my 2012 Ultra Limited! Thanks!
Youre very welcome!
Good stuff, thank you.
Yes sir Charles and thank you for checking it out. Glad it helped!
Just bought a neglected electra glide amd I'm so glad I seen this video .. bike rides a 1000 times better now
Sorry for the late reply but thank you, always grateful to be a help!
Very new to this kinda stuff. Bought a 2012 street glide yesterday. I love your channel man. 10/10 would recommend this guy over any other channel.
Thank you man..much appreciated. Glad the videos are helping you.
agree with James B, great to work with your son, and this is a very well explained and filmed video, thank you!
Thank you!
About to do mine for the first time ever. Now feeling confident after watching your excellent video! 👍
Glad to help Mark! Its pretty straight forward, youll have it in no time.
Pastry whole change of scene I’ve been watched some other guys do it in person and it wasn’t as good as this guy much respect to this guy for doing this video thank you very much I am really shared it with my bro who just bought his first Harley and he wants to learn self what a perfect video for him
Thank you Paul! Much appreciated sir and thank you for the support!
Great video, quick tip I put a Ziploc bag around the oil filter plus the rags you mentioned, helps with the mess.
Nice tip! I may try that next time...Usually I cna get it out fast enough but it does spill a small amount...I didnt have much luck with the plastic oil catch things they sell....dripped fluiod everywhere lol
keep helping your dad buddy thats good
Hes a good helper...I think he is understanding more that he has his own car now. Teach them about motorcycles and they will never have any extra money for stupid shit like drugs lol
Steve thanks for all your videos they help us all save MONEY and time and love DIY.....
Great instructional video. Glad to see someone from good ol' Southern Illinois. I work in Marion from Hburg.
Hey neighbor! Im located just outside Marion towards the lake of Egypt. If you're on facebook checkout our SIK Baggers page or hit me up over there. Always great to hear from a local.
Great video, clear and to the point, even presented the torque specs. Thanks.
Thank you Glenn! Glad the video helped you. Take care and ride safe - Steve
Great video and great teaching man, going to do my 2014 ultra for the first time, thanks 😊
glad to help Kevin!
Good one. Nice to see father and son wrenching time 😊
Ride safe. 🤜👍
Yes sir...this was a few years ago..wish I could get him out in the shop more now...but he discovered "girls" lol
Great video, concise, to the point. Terrific cameraman too!
Thank you and thank you for checking it out!
Great info, and THX for using a Mike, good sound and nice Cam 👍
Thanks man...its a pretty old video so we have all new cams and mics but yeah a mic was a must...cant stand not being able to hear people when they turn away from the cam lol
Great video... I'm going to do my first oil change on my Harley myself.. You saved me time and money
Nice man! thanks for checking out the video Jay and the feedback..much appreciated. Once you do it a few times it like science man...gets easier every timebut you always have videos to follow up on just to refresh .
Good to know now.
yep...thats how they get you my friend. Youre covered just mark it all down and youll be fine.
Thank you for a great, organized presentation. By showing us everything up front (like you 'table of contents') then detailing each step, in order, was very good.
Thank you Jay! Much appreciated!
Great video, to the point and concise, I use Amsoil 20w 50 in all 3 holes...."Whew" almost grabbed the wrong towels...LOL
haha thanks man!
Thanks.
youre very welcome!
Great video. I did mine with you step by step. Very straightforward
Thank you for your time to help me change my motorcycle oil…
