“Time traveling works for those of us who have awkward life schedules that don’t meet up with the games time limits, but still want to enjoy the game.” Is an example I’ve heard that I appreciate. It bugs me that people get so hurt over such small thing
Exactly. I feel like there should be two categories of time-travelers - those that want to get ahead by blatantly abusing it, and those that just want to make up for lost time due to their game-inconvenient real-lives.
I think people should play the game however it will bring them more joy. I personally do not like time travel, and all I ask of people I know who do is to not spoil things that I haven't gotten yet or don't know about yet. I feel like both sides of this argument can get very testy and rude for sure.
I can some what understand the people who didn't catch all the fish in March. It started on the 20th and only had 10 days to catch every fish in March it's understandable the urges to get them however, since it is April, you have an entire month to catch every fish and bugs this month. I don't see this as an excuse to time travel 2 to 3 months ahead because you think you'll have an inconsistent schedule. You are human and you are not busy 24/7 of your life and there would be a free time on your hands where you have the time to play and catch what you need to do. I think this is the intention why Animal Crossing is this way. I caught all the fishes and bugs this month under a day and this game has no specific "day of the month" to catch these creatures. Even if you are busy with your schedule and etc. That doesn't hide the excuse to time travel since again, every fish and bugs can be caught under a day.
@@chronenojysk5107 nobody needs an excuse to time travel dude. Its a fucking video game that they spent their own money on they can do whatever they like. Why do you care so much if someone is "cheating" in a single player game anyways?
Must admit, that was the first thing I thought of. I still wonder if the drop rates for those recipes are super low, especially since these are supposed to be limited time event recipes.
I told myself that I'd never time travel but when I needed to move ALL the buildings in my island(except the Able Sisters) I needed to time travel. I didn't want to stretch out almost 3 weeks to wait for each building to move...
I'm exactly In the same position. I've never played in Animal Crossing game before so I was just kind of bullshiting but when I realized that I wanted to take my Island seriously that meant I had to move everyone around and I'm having a hard enough time getting money as is so having to move everyone kind of sucks so I'm going to use a time travel method once just so I can get money to help me out with this
@@carrolllynn4077 This, I mean once you get to the endgame(post k.k. slider) it's a sandbox game, you shape your island and make it exactly how you want, you can't do that until you get terraforming. Once you have it meticulously designing the entire island into the piece of art you want it to be is going to take a lot of time even if you time travel to accelerate the moving of buildings. The game world is a canvas to create your art on, if you want to do it extremely slowly or just relatively quickly but still slowly is artists choice in that sense to me.
Preed Reve RIGHT. I might just skip past the bunny day stuff because I’m trying to fish to make some money and to fill the museum and I pull an egg out of the water 2/3s of the time
I used to tarantula trick to farm 624,000 bells (2 runs). I have 3 expanded rooms but no upper or lower floor. About 400,000 bells are left in my bank and now I think I should throw all of it away and farm legitimately :(
@@alienillusi0n hard too explain with my limited vocab, but I'll try. Animal crossing is a real time based game. The sims is NOT. The sims gives you the ability too use cheats, which makes it not as big of a deal. I'm not saying time travelling in acnh is a big deal, but you get my point. Now as for acnh, Nintendo cant just GET RID of the ability too change time. Disaster would strike very quickly. The sims and animal crossing are not 2 too compare. They seem similar, but the gameplay is very different.
@@diagnosiis I mean. If you play the sims on PlayStation, having cheats on prevents you from getting achievements. Do you are somewhat discouraged from cheating
I had a friend who had turnips selling at 583 at his island. Since I was on Sunday I was able to make multiple trips going to his island making almost two million a trip
Personally, as long as you aren't affecting another person's experience with the game, I say you do you. I myself am not really one to time travel, but honestly, I'll respect the way you play if you respect the way I do too.
Time travelling affects my game because people are advertising turnip prices and I feel like i just got scammed bc they keep going back to that date and farm tickets then I don’t feel like I deserve them
I think everyone can play however they want, but it is true that time traveling kills a big part of the essence of the game. I mean it is not wrong to want a fast paced pregression, but by doing that those people end up missing an experience, something the developers dedicated a lot of passion and time. I wouldn't recommend time traveling at all, but if anyone does it's alright.
Saaame. I just want this event to stop its so tacky and I want to go back to normal 😭 the cherry blossoms are beautiful but these eggs are just annoying
If this game was 100% single player, sure, but online multiplayer is a huge factor in this title and cheating always tilts the scales towards those who do it.
You can’t time travel in online cause if you go to home page then you can’t I don’t play animal crossing and know nothing about it but pretty sure that’s how it works from playing other online games
It’s not meant to be competitive, yet for just about everyone playing, it is. That’s why people want to cheat and get a leg up on everyone else. All so they can brag about how awesome their island is on social media. Don’t think for a second that this game isn’t competitive.
As a person who tries to time travel in absolute moderation, let me give my 2 cents on the first of your problems: *Not enough time:* As a person who I assume has played animal crossing a lot, you should understand this one even more. I wake up every day at 5-6am for work, and come home by 2-4pm and have to be in bed by about 10. There are bugs and fish that are rare and spawn at 9pm, or 6am. Due to my schedule I have little time to actually catch these things. You can day "day off" but if youre telling me I have to dedicate a day off to be up and spend it trying to catch something when I could do it other wise when I just get home from work and am relaxing... that kind of cold. Now, due to this event, and seasonal DIY's and materials this has come even more to the forefront. Its not always about TT'ing months, but sometimes just a few hours. Just to place the clock a bit in a better spot to enjoy the game you want to. I agree that it does take out some of the fun when you speed run all the months to catch every bug and fish and all the furnitire and just be done with a game that should take a year or more in just a few weeks. Thats a fair arguement and its also why I dont want to personally TT. Though, some people bought AC to play now, not forever. They want to beat and shelf it, and if thats what they want who are we to argue. Personally, the only time I TT'd was because I wanted to move some houses and I couldnt really get a feel for what i wanted to terraform or place so I moved 6 houses or so just to be able to open the canvas. Otherwise, I'd have to have been active and waited a week before I could even start thinking about what I was gonna Teraform. That isnt cheating the game, I literally didnt even buy from shops just checked in on villagers to ensure they werent leaving, and when people want to TT like that I feel like it shouldnt be considered an issue.
Mostly, I save time travel for when I feel like I'm "done" with the game, which typically occurs a few years after getting the game. I didn't cheat in New Leaf until about two months before New Horizons came out, and that was mostly just time travelling to get the shops open when I woke up too early. My most egregious cheat was skipping a month to get to spring because I was so. tired. of. snow. But I'm all for letting people play a game the way they get the most enjoyment out of it.
I agree completely! I played the gamecube version a ton when I was a kid, and after playing legitimately for a while and having multiple town resets, I decided to start time skipping, earn a bunch of money on turnips, give myself the NES games via action replay, etc. And it was a blast! But it would have soured the game if I did it early on.
Host when i time traveled in new leaf (it was when i had just started) i traveled to every holiday, just because i wanted to see what would happen. when i came back i had been mayor for more than a year and i still only had a tent lmao-
Piage Fabez Yeah. And I think that may be the reason Nintendo didn’t stop time travel besides for things like turnips. The game’s not about limiting people.
Not to mention that kids can't be awake at 10 pm to see a meteor shower, see Wisp or catch night bugs and fish. Time travel allows them to play the full game within their time frame.
I time travel some times. I don’t care how people play I just get annoyed when a know it all player lectures me about a game and says things like “your victory was hollow, you didn’t really have fun/ was satisfyed.”and let’s not forget “you only played yourself by ruining the game” 🙄....so? 1) how the hell of you know if I felt like I had fun or not? 2) it’s my game and I can play it how I want!
Malumute Dawgs they do!! Especially for that wild nature vibe, I don’t time travel but I put weeds in certain places to make the flowers look more interesting
i like the clovers but thats pretty much it (although i do have this part in the middle of my island where i let weeds grow out so i can get them for DIYs and ngl that part looks pretty good)
I put in the work in new leaf. I did the slow everyday play for over a year in new leaf. So I use time traveling to play the game my way. And I’m a single mom and college student so I use the clock to play certain times when I have the time instead of playing during the real time when I have work and a son to take care of. This is my personal opinion and reasons why I time travel.
See, my reason for why I don't is the opposite. I "cheated" NL pretty hard and it sapped the enjoyment away from me. But I get and respect why you do it
The only time I felt I needed to "cheat" was when I was showing my friend what makes the game fun. I handed my Switch to him and he messed around a bit, but the daily chores were already done and all stores were closed, it was hard to show him what makes the game fun when there isn't a lot to look at. I didn't want to mess with time but I didn't want him leaving on a bad note either. I don't plan on messing with time again though.
This reminds me of a time in New Leaf when I visited a dream town. In it, nearly every square was covered in golden roses! Of course, me, being new to Animal Crossing at the time, thought that this person's town was legit. And this started my journey to turning my town gold! It wasn't until recently that I even considered the fact that it might be fake, but after 5 years, I've covered around 30-40% of my town in black roses, so I got pretty far, I think! Not sure how relevant to the video this is, but thought I'd share anyway!
Back in Wild World, I got accused of cheating on message boards cos my house was super good. I never cheated but I guess that experience stuck with me all this time.
My pace is "GRIND GRIND GRIND. FAST. FAST. FAST. TIME SKIP TIME SKIP TIME SKIP." And if youre mad about it then cry. Its my world. You dont have to let it bother you
As someone new to AC, I was VERY confused by how far people were on Twitter and TH-cam and definitely thought I was doing something wrong. Like... why does my island still look pretty much deserted while some people have full fledged cities going on? Am I seriously missing something? Then I realized time traveling was a thing, and just went back to focusing on my island and ignoring what other people were doing.
Yea, the weird bragging cheaters have done has actually ruined the social media aspect of ACNH that was so great before it came out. So I pretty much tuned all social AC content out, except for posts specifically from my FB no time traveling group.
its pretty funny how its all old veteran 'experienced' players who are cheating lol. posting to twitter immediately also just means they were seeking instant gratification. Im all about the 'it aint much but its honest work' route
Tristan Neal I have to actively ignore what people do on Twitter most of the time because so much cheating is going on. It's so hard to just find people who are playing the game without duping or TTing
I often feel tempted to time travel but then I remember that the whole 'my home is a tent'-phase of the game was over before I knew it & I wanna enjoy every aspect of it to its fullest. Also, it's just nice to have something to look forward to. Even if it's something small and insignificant such as a new structure in a game.
I wish there was a scout tent followed by the normal tent in the game. Anything to make the tent phase last longer. The glowing tent and island aesthetic is so comfy, it's a shame it lasted all of 48 hours. (real time)
I have a friend who's having trouble getting the 30 iron nuggets. I offered to give him some of mine, but he refused, saying he wanted to get them the hard way.
Traveling to other islands from the Nook Miles ticket. Also, dig two holes to prevent the player from moving back. Neat tip to save iron: customizing tools resets the damage back to zero. Think of it as repairing the tools so they last longer.
When I had to do this, I didn't realize I could use Nook miles to go to random islands with more rocks. It wound up taking me 3 days, haha. But I didn't feel like I wasted my time. I just had to learn something new.
I admit it, I do time travel- it just makes it more enjoyable for me because I’m impatient lol...I think people should play the game however they want as long as it makes the game more enjoyable. I honestly think people overthink it, the point of the game is to enjoy yourself and relax. Just my personal opinion though! :))
This makes me think of how differently I play games now from when I was a kid. As a kid, animal crossing time traveling was fun because playing god was more fun for me and seeing how boundaries in the game worked and what I could push. Now I find the difficulty of "oh shit i missed the stringfish! Gotta remember it next year" More fun. Same thing with sims 2, id always use motherlode and had fun playing god and making the biggest home. Now I like starting from like 200 dollars. I'd say I like that the option is there, since it caters to different ways people enjoy playing. Coming from someone who has played in both ways over the years.
Exactly! Plus the Gamecube wasn't connected to the internet to sync with the actual time. We had to manually enter it and change it for time changes etc.
I can relate, as a child I time traveled all the time! Now, I don't do it and actually want to play the game through. However I time traveled to get out of this egg event because it was so annoying! But time traveled back, thankfully they released an update that lowered the spawn rate of eggs
It's a shame nobody ever says this except when trying to take something from someone else, completely missing the point. Works both ways. Not talking about you btw OP I mean when this phrase is used by like, activists and politicians and stuff.
Personally, I do not like time traveling. I like how I can go at my own pace with finishing everything. I love the feeling of being excited to wake up in the morning for a new store. I feel like I can wait for things. Plus, if I finished the game quick and time travelled, I'd be fine with the game. I'd just be so bored! I would want to reset. But I understand people who do it for different reasons, like one of my friends only time travels to help people who need bells.
Not saying I have an issue with time traveling but to help people with bells is kinda silly. I made 2 million bells in two weeks by just playing the game naturally. And I haven’t hit 100 hours yet
To make tens of millions of bells, time travelling isn't required but I HIGHLY recommend you do it. Trust me you don't wanna wait a whole week just to find out that your turnip prices are shit. I time travelled for turnip trading and now I can just sit back and create the town I want to make without worrying about money.
I think the major problem is that shops and villagers follow real life schedules, so if you work a 9-5 job or are in school, you have to wait until the weekend to do anything. And because the game follows real time, once the villagers are all asleep all you can do is farm, which removes most of the charm of the game and just isn’t very fun. I found the early bird and night owl in New Leaf really useful but that wasn’t available from the start.
On the "perfect for people with little time" aspect. I have had times where I can play video games for 4-5 hours at a time, but only every week or two. This makes games like animal crossing unappealing, because I don't have the capability to play them daily. So I can understand people in that situation time traveling.
Exactly. Plus, some people only end up being free at certain time of the day like at night, so it just makes sense to time travel so you aren't constantly staring at moths and tarantulas every time you boot up the game.
@@RandomPerson-gt1jt Or just have the clock set back a few hours. No need to skip ahead to get all the shops unlocked, make billions of bells and duplicate items. Not that you mentioned them, but just saying. In that situation, just set ur time just a few hours back.
This precisely. During vacation time I have plenty of free time, but on a daily basis, even dedicating one hour to a game like AC is a lot of time and a lot of energy. As someone who works long hours and also tries to juggle an eventful life at the same time, I don't have much space for long games aside from breaks or vacations. Having come off of vacation right now I'm forced to drop the game permanently, or at least for months, and had I not time travelled, I would've never seen all the game has to offer
When we think time travel is cheating, we don't realize that there are some people who modify the game to generate bells and furniture and sell them online for real money. I feel that time traveling in comparison is far less cheating now...
@@NovaNyst Because, most of the time, people who pay real money for things as minor as furniture in a video game, and said furniture might be sold for bells in game later on, are people who are, in some way, not mentally stable. This is different from buying most decent DLC's, since they unlock more content, and you can't trade it in accidentally for in game currency (most of the time).

(TLDR at the end, as well as a conclusion for a more thought out tldr) My experience with time travelling has been all over the place. I've played two games, new leaf and new horizons. In new leaf at first i NEVER time traveled, this was easier because it was back in high school when i had a good schedule, i could play after school, in between classes, or whatever. I lived like this for a long time and i think honestly as someone whose played with TT in many different forms, this is the best one (or the next one i will mention) Then when i started to have a less normal schedule i found that my shops and things were never open, i was only available to play games REALLY late so even if i just collected stuff i wouldn't be awake, or around, to sell them when the shops were open. This was when i went into a form of time travelling that i support and encourage especially for people who have different life schedules, I would have my time set to about 6 hours in the past so that when i was on at say midnight, it would still be 6pm, that way i could still go to the shops and such even though it was so late. I find this sort of time travelling not really immersion breaking, its fine and i don't think really ruins anything, if anything it helps those people who might not be on a typical schedule as others, like if you work late or have things to do all day and can only really play past 10pm when everything is closed. Now in NH i've done multiple different types of TT I TT'd the first day i got it to skip to the second day so i could open my airport as me and my girlfriend desperately wanted to see each other and such so i honestly think something like that is fine. I think them locking the social aspect of the game behind a 24 hour time wall wasn't wise or needed, especially right now with all the social isolation going on people just wanna connect as much as possible. After awhile of playing normally, i had everything without time travelling (other than that first day) I had everything unlocked and upgraded, from nooks shop to the museum, all the new villagers and the able shop, even my house was fully upgraded, i even officially had terraforming. This was where i think i messed up. I purchased NFC cards to get the villagers into my town that i wanted (this isn't the mistake, i think this is fine if people really want this kind of play style) The mistake i made was once i found out you had to invite every amiibo to your town 3 days in a row i ended up breaking and doing it all at once by time travelling. I didn't really see the harm at the time, i wanted my villagers that i payed for and i figured i had everything anyways so i went for it. The reason i feel like this was a mistake was because i didn't get the satisfaction of getting each villager, it was just one day i had these 10 villagers and the next day i had all my dream villagers at once. It broke a certain feeling of immersion and i feel like i didn't get to bond with my animals if i had done it day by day. I think if there wasn't a 3 day wait for each villager i wouldn't have done this, if it was one day or even just two i might not have done it but the 3 day wait was agonizing. This was kinda where the dam sorta broke? a bit ago me and my friends got into stalk market stuff, we'd buy from whichever friend had the best price that sunday, and then search the turnip websites and discords for a 500+ price, and then wait in a queue with tons of people to try and get in to sell. This is all well and good, no time travelling just a lot of waiting and frustration, especially for someone like me who has spotty internet. The issue with all this was that a lot of places charge an entrance fee or various things from money, to NMT to gold nuggets, and this was on top of the problem that half the time we'd join queues on the website and wait over an hour only for the island to close down and we'd be stuck looking for a new place (this happened to me about 5 times one day, it broke my spirit, especially because i basically do nothing while waiting because i don't wanna queue in and have my inventory full of things and scramble to empty it and run to the airport and such since they can kick you from the queue) This was where my friend suggested us time travelling to make money for our own little community. I set my game back to Sunday, and trapped daisy in a small area near my airport, and then another person in our group TT'd until they found a price for 500+ and we would go from my island to theirs over and over. At the end i ended up with 40 million which i split 50/50 with my girlfriend who wasn't available to do it. This i think ruined a lot of things about this game for me and i high key regret it so much. I no longer catch bugs or fish without much intention like trying to find certain ones to donate or make into models with flick. I don't need to even buy turnips anymore or bother with anything that is money worth. Thats a huge drive of the game after all, making money. I had finished upgrading my house already so now i just sit with my 20mil in my abd and just use it to buy clothing/furniture. Its not too terrible as i spend a lot of time decorating my town and breeding flowers or visiting my friends, i just worry about what will happen once i have all the flowers i want, my towns the way i want it, and my friends play it less and less. But i know other people with different experiences For example, my girlfriend time traveled a lot to gain money because to her, the making money part was not what she enjoys about AC, she likes dressing up, decorating, and everything. She's wearing something new every time i see her, and she enjoys moving her rooms around and finding every cute possible item. and my sister stayed back in march when it ended because she cares so much about the critterpiedia she wanted a string fish and she couldn't catch one even though she had been trying about 10 times longer then i had before i caught 2, she felt this was fine and never broke her immersion because for her, the completion of things like that are what drives her in game. In conclusion, I think over use of time travelling is going to ruin the game for you, in most cases. I think TTing to say, have a different time then you are actually in (like 6 hours in the past) so you can have shops open if you work all day and can only play really late, or perhaps if you missed something you find really important that wont be back in game for months or possible a year, i think thats okay. Its in small doses and sometimes life gets in the way and prevents us from participating in things on a specific day (like bunny day or the fishing tourney, ect.ect.) I think once you push past this is when it becomes less and less fun and "ruins" the game for you. I honestly think i might try giving away some of my money to friends who weren't involved in our insider trading because if i just go back to having like 1 mil in my bank like before maybe i will go back to enjoying everything a bit more? TLDR: Little to no TTing is the best as someone whose tried every form, but at the end of the day no one is stopping you especially if its making you enjoy the game that much more. It's your 60 bucks at the end of the day, do with it what you will.
@@notbindi i totally understand what you mean, and as i said in my comment, i even know people myself like my girlfriend who tt and enjoy that experience. Like is AC a game made to be played in small increments over months and years? yeah, but does that mean you cant figure out different ways to play it? of course not. I think most of the time tt can ruin the game for people, many of my friends who all tt say that it takes a certain... magic away from them, but they still do it and stuff. Im a HUGE completionist when it comes to games, and ac is no exception, i enjoy every aspect of the game, fishing and collecting things yes, but also the decorating and customization of my island is probably my favourite. I personally try and do as little tt as i can now but i still partake once in awhile, especially if i dont do something in a specific time (or that time i stayed on the same day as my friend tt for days trying to get her villager to ask to move so i could steal him) i dont think tt is inherently evil, i just think its very possibly going to ruin fun for people and is kinda hard to go back on it once you start, unless you wipe your file or get rid of every item to gained from tt. all in all i think its mostly a coin toss, i will never look down on people who tt, i think others who do are kinda ridiculous cause its a fucking game and people can play it anyway they want, its not like its a fps game where people "hacking" (i say hacking loosely cause i dont really think tt is hacking but you know what i mean) can ruin the game when you're doing PVP, but AC is a singleplayer (with social aspects) and you tting to get that cute mom sweater isnt going to affect anyone else other then maybe make others jealous that you're badass enough to tt to get it :P anyways, i hope you're having a good day, its after midnight which is the worst time for me to rant about time travelling in a game lol i just keep going in circles.
@@AntonyTheQ haha yeah, sorry about that. Guess i just have a lot of feelings about TT. I shall try and seek out the PhD in animal crossing time travelling!
I've always time travelled in Animal Crossing and I still have fun with it. I play for months at a time and still find enjoyment in it. It wasn't until New Horizons that I was crucified for doing it online and it blew my mind how many people even cared that I was doing it to begin with. I dont post spoilers about it, when I stream I always give a fair warning that I am showing off the "end game" content and yet people still try to tell me how to play a game I paid for. In the end, as long as you're having fun and not being a jerk about it why does it bother people? I've seen rude people on both sides but I just wanna play my game man. It doesn't matter.
Doesn't bother me when people time travel, but yeah when you post your screenshots of a fully upgraded house and colorful tools 2 days after release on Twitter, that is when I get annoyed. Scrolling down my timeline only to have visual spoilers instantly injected into my brain. Maybe hold off for a week or two. Especially annoying when you post time travel spoilers to Twitter a few days after release and then cherry pick angry replies to whine about how the animal crossing community is toxic (Alpharad)
Honestly Alpharad was (maybe is I'm undecided) one of my favorite TH-camrs until this whole time traveling thing happened. I lost a lot of respect for him when I found out.
AGREE!!! my country's under a nation-wide lockdown bcos of the Rona so I haven't gotten my pre-order of the game and the ACNH switch (so i cant okay if even if i so badly want to) and i feel like some of the magic has worn off because i keep seeing all these time travel spoilers and freaking urbanized towns a week after the game launched
I feel like New Horizons is the most indifferent Nintendo has felt about time travelers and item duplicators. The idea behind New Horizons was escaping to your own island paradise and shaping your deserted island into whatever paradise YOU had in mind. Whether you time traveled to make an elaborate tropical vacation home or played the game one day at a time, it's completely up to you. Even if it feels like you've done everything there is to do, the game acts as a vacation escape from reality whenever you want. Some people don't want to escape to a tropical island every day, and that's okay. Just go back to it whenever the mood strikes you.
Apollo Mercier yeah i agree with you. I also agree with the original comment except for the part about nintendo being the most lax it ever has about this stuff. In previous games, you'd be prompted to check the date and time, and changing it was within 2 clicks. That option is not in new horizons because they are trying to discourage people from time traveling.
A "game" would imply that you can either win, or lose. Exactly how do you do either of those in AC? The closest thing I can think of to "losing" in AC is getting stung by a Tarantula or Scorpion, and even then, all it does is reset you to the dock or your house. I caught my 3 fish/bugs fair and square, why the fuck should I wait a whole week to get my model made?
You can cheat because the game does have and end and that's when you want it too also the game is meant to be played daily so if your skipping days it ruins what your meant to do
I've time traveled sometimes, but only backwards. I only do this if there is an event I missed, like Daisy Mae selling turnips, mainly because my sleep schedule is trash, and I can't wake up earlier that 10 am to save my life
Rockets birthday is on the 14th of April. If I miss it, I will miss it, and I will have to suffer for it. That's why I marked it on my real life calendar :) Have I gone too far?
I work 7 days a week, during the day, and I sleep at night. So what I do is jump forward or backward a few hours here and there so I can catch the bugs and fish I'd otherwise miss because of my schedule. Like when I'm playing in the morning during my coffee time, I'll roll the clock back a couple hours so I can catch a snapping turtle. In the evening, I'll roll it back again so I can get the late morning to mid afternoon stuff, like the Madagascar Moth. Other than that, I don't do any time hopping. I want to collect all the critters, and I plan on doing it as legitimately as possible. But if I didn't do a bit of time jumping, there's a lot I'd miss out on.
That's probably not the kind of 'cheating' he is referring to, I mean, in a game like this you still should be able to experience everything, but not rush it I'd say.
That's exactly how I play. As Arlo says, if you want to skip ahead or behind to get something you missed, more power to you. The most exploitable ways to cheat the system for bells in ACNH namely, tarantula islands, could have been done almost as soon as you got the game. And you suffer no "repercussions" for doing so. Oh and if you have an extra Switch you can "cheat" that way too. Nintendo can discourage cheating all they want. But no matter what they do, how many people they ban for hacking, or whatever new repercussions they add to the table for non-"pure" AC players, people will still find a way to "cheat the system" even if it means using a different switch and resetting until they get the most popular villagers then trading them for bells or Nook Miles Tickets. What i'm saying is, unless Nintendo is willing to ban everyone who even remotely touches their switch clock, doing anti cheat mesures will only turn off impatient people from the game.
when i see how advanced other people’s towns are, I get really jealous, like, in my eyes, if someone else has an amazing town, my self esteem gets low, so I skip time to be able to get that self fulfillment,, i guess
My friends have watched me go insane the past few days because all I can find are chocolate eggs lmao. It's literally been like: Friends: uh.. Are you alright? Me standing in a puddle of murdered eggs: * turns around slowly* No! :D
I hate the eggs, I hate Zipper T Bunny, and I think all egg items in the game are ugly. XD I wasn't exactly thrilled Easter was gonna be my first holiday in the new town. Can't wait for Halloween tho!
OMG You pulled a animal crossing in real life! :O Though I got to say I’m impressed I didn’t think the earth could survive that long! So is the first rival for Yandere simulator out yet? Or not? Because I feel like it isn’t.......
@Troll 4 Life sorry no in the future Nintendo takes over all of gaming media and humans are forced to play at least 5 hours of Nintendo games every day but it can’t be an old game on an old consul as that is illegal you have to buy the current game or consul Nintendo makes under penalty of death. Gimmicks like the wii are in every consul except they’re way more annoying. Anyone caught making a game will also be killed on sight.
I’ve been time traveling in animal crossing since i played the game cube version and I will continue to play it that way. That’s how I like to play it and I don’t feel bad about it 🤷🏻♂️
And you shouldn’t, it’s not “harming” people when you “cheat” in animal crossing so play it however you like... personally I time travelled in city folk and ended up hating that game because of it so just be aware that you may end up souring your experience other than that play however you want
It’s just another way to play the game. I time traveled to get my house done so I didn’t have to wait a day. Time traveling is just how I like to play to. The game is better for me when I do that.
I do some light time traveling. Being an essential worker, if I played legitimately I would only be able to play Animal Crossing while everyone is asleep, all the stores are closed and I'd never see the island during the day.
@@sammyescamilla6192 When i time travelled at the start of the game to unlock the museum and stuff i just set it back to the present as soon as possible. But since going back spoils turnips i dont even wanna go forward anymore. Being off the actual date, even when a real life clock hasnt been adjusted by an hour for daylight savings yet, bothers me to no end. Since i have stuff unlocked i dont really feel much need to do timetravelling anymore either. still playing for hours a day lol.
I ALMOST cheated the other day. I missed the String Fish and I was like "Is anyone really going to know?" Then I thought: "What if my wife finds out I cheated Animal Crossing? What if my villagers turn against me? Can I go to jail for this? Nah I better not do it." So in conclusion, I will be waiting till December to catch a String Fish.
I caught a string fish on March 31st at 11.50 PM. I was so happy it worked legitimately because I was about to throw in the towel after farming 200 Manila clams.
mood. i dont want my wood harvest to be 1/3 spoiled by those stupid eggs. and all the new fish this month are even harder to catch when 80% of the fish are all eggs. the balloons have to stop. i cant deal with having 30 balloons at once anymore. i dont even like or want any of the egg stuff anyway, other than the egg party dress because its only -sorta- cute, theres definitely cuter outfits than that eggy abomination. such as the sakura stuff, which seems to be even harder to get from low drop rates and all the incessant egg balloons. ive had enough of the dang eggs already and its only been five days. id had enough by day two. at least i did get all the sakura recipes.
Langsworth yeah I agree. None of the egg stuff I appealing to me at all. What makes it worse is how 80% of the fish are now eggs and with the trees and rocks it makes it harder to farm materials
Okay, so here’s the thing. I work retail, I don’t have a lot of time to play every single day and sometimes when I do have time it’s midnight, the shops are closed and I can’t do certain things. Sometimes I’m so exhausted I can’t even be bothered to turn on my switch. So yes, I cheat sometimes because I occasionally don’t have it in me to play. I don’t go forward in time, I don’t break the game with my traveling, I just play days I missed because it’s very unappealing to me that I can’t get my daily miles because I worked for the whole day and when I got home I don’t even have the energy to eat dinner, let alone play animal crossing. I understand why some people are against it, I hope people understand why I do it.
If you want just set the clock in reverese. Set the time to AM and play the game like that :v you xan get the full extent of the game without time travelling.
To be fair you have until 5 am to get your daily miles :) since the next “day” doesn’t start until 5 but I get the being too tired to bother part trust me. Retail sucks life out of ya
To me the answer is: "It doesn't matter" Animal Crossing isn't exaclty a competitive game, its more like a toybox, and criticizing someone over it its like saying "You can't build a Golden Gate using the Big Ben LEGO set!".
@@jasynthetic7975 - Yeah... although Arlo made a pretty good point: There's people who get a bunch of stuff via cheating and then go to social media to show-off their village to other people who'll then go on to wonder if they're doing something wrong... Well yeah, that's kinda messed up; Because it could get in the way of other people's experience.
The real answer is that it is in fact cheating, just like using instant save and loads on emulators where you shouldn't be able to in the original games. Or using "cheat codes". Accepting that doesn't mean that you refute this way of playing. As even the developers sometimes accept and encourage it (GTA) You just accept the fact. Other than that, it doesn't matter.
Yeah but then they flex their stuff online and I’m just like, how are you proud of something you didn’t get the legitimate way? But well that’s their problem haha
Animal Crossing is a life simulation game, I could care less how others want to simulate their lives on their islands. I'm excited to see what time travelers do, and am also excited to see what those who don't time travel can do too.
Arlo: “Your turnips will spoil if you so much as touch the clock.” Villager: “Hmm, I don’t really like where this clock is. I should move it somewhere else.” Villager: “Wait, what! What’s going on with my turnips!?”
I think I found a glitch. If you set the clock to morning on sunday, buy all your turnips, synchronize the clock with the internet so that it's the real time... THE TURNIPS WONT SPOIL! DONT TELL NINTENDO THIS!
Arlo: “Just enjoy the game you want to.” The Media: Arlo says that anyone who time travels in ACNH is a big stinky person while burning down the homes of time travelers
Imagine This Is Real. Just Imagine. (meanwhile i'm 12 years old. for real, burning down a kid's house. a 3 story apartment place. that means everyone in there is now homeless.)
2:00 Quick correction: the turnips only spoil if you *rewind* time; any forward travel is fair game so long as you don't hit the next Sunday (which would spoil turnips without time travel anyway). Not sure if you point this out later or whether there's already a billion people who have said the same thing, but I think it's worth noting.
Previous games had turnips spoil no matter which way you time traveled. But because new horizons doesn't have the in game option to change time, the rules have changed a bit and it's only when you go back for some reason.
Thanks god, today I travel to yesterday to get the turnips and then I fix the date to today. It's good to know that I don't have to travel back again 😅
I only time travel to earlier in the day. I've been working 1 to 10 almost every day (Walmart) and with all this coronavirus stress, my sleep schedule has been off for a while.
Yah I did the same, usually I only play after 10 PM so I just set my clock back a few hours permanently so Nook’s Cranny wouldn’t be perpetually closed
I feel you 1-10 shift walmart here to animal crossing is the one thing stopping me from going insane at work its relaxing and while I'm working I'm thinking what I wanna do when I get home
I feel you I work in the pharmacy for my Walmart and things have been crazy lately having to work several days in a row with long shifts because no one wants to come to work at my store.
When I was a kid, changing the clock was the only way I could catch critters at certain times. Late night and early morning things, for example. Whether i couldn't play at those times, or RNG screwed me over and the time window closed with nothing to show for my efforts, I felt that I needed to time travel in order to obtain them. Now that i work at night, the 9am-4pm time slot is essentially for days-off-only, when I can afford to stay awake that long. I do feel tempted to time travel, so i can access those critters whenever, but since i share a Switch, that's not wise. I don't really have a point, just wanted to share. :p
Sure, it's your game and you can do what you want with it. But acting like it's the only way to get stuff... I mean, everyone deals with being busy as well as RNG in the game. Part of the game is missing stuff and not succeeding at catching certain fish or bugs. Some people play for years and years and never get everything. I'm not saying you have to like that or adhere to it, but it's literally the game experience.
Yeah people who work odd hours I could totally see it being very reasonable to do some minor time travel. I don't time travel but I have worked night shifts and 2nd shifts a lot these past few years and had it not been for this quarantine some things would be impossible to get unless I ruined my sleeping schedule. I don't plan on time travelling but I do understand why some people would in that scenario.
I haven't really seen this opinion made here yet, so I want to share incase others feel the same way! I play Animal Crossing for the design aspect of it. The fact that you can now terraform is absolutly game changing to me, and has offered me so many different possibilities. I often will have a different Island layout every 4-5 weeks, and TT does enable me to accomplish this faster (I can move houses, shops out of the way quicker so I have a blank canvas). I love that these DIYs make items so much more precious, because seeing people react to these items theyve never seen before is amazing. The cuteness and the ability to select villagers based on whatever theme I decide for my island also appeals to me, I have always enjoyed being able to customise Animal Crossing whichever way I want, and thats why I personally Time Travel, and I think others might feel the same way too! Again, this is just a choice, and I love seeing how excited my friend was recently to finally get Nooks Cranny, but for me the game is about creating these unique islands with creative ideas! But play however you want!
@@The_Jovian i mean if being hard is the concept of the game and goal of the game it would go not against the fandom's so called morals but against the director's morals and goals. More like playing dark souls farming and not basing everything on raw skill is the thing. People there hate who farms and grinds
@@matteobenincasa7141 no you shouldn't make a game more accessible and better for others to play and make the game inevitably more popular and give it more sales.,HOW DARE YOU
The day after the game came out, a bunch of my friends decided to all go online together. My sister had just gotten the game and didn't start it yet. In order to play online, you have to wait a day first. I told her to go back in time one day before creating her island and that allowed her to join in on the fun. Just a small exploit because we're all super busy people working to become doctors, pilots, or psychologists so it was nice to get together as friends for the first time since we enjoyed Club Penguin or Roblox back in the day.
You hit the nail on the head about how I’ve always felt about time travel. Even if it was about something small like not having to be in game right at midnight on New Year’s Eve to be there for the fireworks when you probably want to be out with friends or family. A friend of mine actually has what I think is the perfect amount of time traveling. He’s up more at night, but wants to experience stuff during the day. So he just set his town to be about 10-12 hours earlier
I moved my time zone back a couple hours, so that when I tend to play at night, I will still be able to sell to the shop and it won't be totally dark. I'm not changing days, I'm waiting two days for everything to open but I like to play when my town is still light outside.
Here's my experiences so far: At the beginning, I did do a day or two of time traveling, because I had assumed it was like previous games and there was a hard cap on things you could do in a day, I got it on a Friday night, and like heck I wasn't going to spend only an hour over the whole weekend playing my new game! Then I got familiar with the Miles+ and random island excursions, and realized there's actually always going to be something to do. I did patently wait for buildings to upgrade. I did make one concession though: I changed my Switch's time zone to one that fits my schedule. I work overnight, and have precious little daylight time to get things done outside the game. I set it so Nook's Cranny opens about two hours after I wake up, and closes when I go to sleep. I haven't changed it since, and I hope it won't mess up anything. It does leave me open to the back and forth turnip thing with a friend, but I've no intention of doing that.
I did the back and forth turnip thing for the first time today, and jeez Im never doing that again. First of all, It took like an hour to make the amount of money I needed to pay off a loan (I was going to do more, but I got really bored, and started to feel guilty). Second of all, it just felt kind of cheap, and I decided that there are way more fun ways to make money.

@@dfabulous Yeah even in the past games there was no real penality for time traveling, the worst you'll get is your turnips spoiling and that's about it.
I agree with some of this, even being a time traveller myself they designed the game to be slow progress, and I can respect that. I never wanna skip too far (say, seasons) because then it DOES feel like im cheating the system, but for getting rid of villagers, keeping shops open, etc? I dont see why it's such a big deal
I guess it encourages people to play the game earlier but it's very unfair for people who work all week at very late times. It actually has improved my sleep schedule though, as I want to wake up earlier on Sundays to buy them. So there is plenty of pro's and con's
@@TheIrishDino and then if you wanna go for the best possible price, you need to be up before noon every day. wasn't it possible in new leaf to adjust the times things happened? that'd be a great QoL change for the hours somebody can play the game. but yr not wrong about improving sleep schedules, i got up earlier today to finally buy turnips for the first time (but i forgot i paid down some of my house and I only had 16k bells.)
@@TheIrishDino Sunday is my only consistent day off, so I'm not gonna go to sleep early and wake up early just got turnips, honestly they should just have them available until 1 or 2 o clock
Man the keyword here for me is "improve." It's real weird to me that most people seem to automatically assume that the game is best played in real-time.... yet we're talking about a game that locks you to a single music track (outdoors that is) for about the first week of play give-or-take, among other serious limitations for the first 1-3 weeks (many more limitations than the last few games in the series, if not even the Gamecube version). I dunno if this is a hot take or not, but that early "building the town" phase of the game felt really half-baked to me, and I would've been seriously disappointed to be stuck in it for so long had time-travel not been an option.
@@gogglebrains you're completely right. I skipped a day once during the early game just because it was so damn boring and the museum was taking forever to open. only time ive time traveled so far. The pace is pretty off at first, but once you upgrade the Resident Services Building things pick up tremendously and i have a lot to do now. Also, the music track decision is baffling. And i just wanted that damn track to shut off at one point. I was honestly confused as to how Nintendo got away with making a game with one music track lol... thank goodness that changes. But poor decision to torture players with the same track for a whole week. Enjoying the game a lot. Needs some additional QoL fixes here and there, and the loading for online is silly, but fun game for my first animal crossing.
Yea people can cheat on their island if they like, but we dont have to play with the impatient children who do this either. An individual time traveling on their island hurts no one else, but all the social media and online trading is absolutely ruined by the cheaters. So its definitely right to call them out as cheaters, and hope Nintendo just locks any AC online activity to the official clock.
@@Mr-Pulse my guy, it's animal crossing, why do you care what people post about their island on social media? If that bothers you so much then maybe the other people aren't the problem
Hot take; people only ever care about the logistics of time travelling when the game is first released because of pretty screenshots and completed museum tours (within 2 days of the game being released), and seeing that makes you feel like garbage because YOU haven't made that progress yet. Give it two months and no one will care again, because those screenshots and tours sting less Edit: People in the replies might wanna relearn the lesson Animal Crossing teaches the player... the lesson being to chill out 😂😂😂
Exactly! It's as harmless and well accepted as shouting spoilers in a lineup to see a movie! Wait... that's not acceptable. So why is this? AC is not exactly plot heavy, but there are elements to it I would have *loved* to discover on my own. But instead people were shouting about them on all corners of the internet.
The people worried about not having enough time probably can't play everyday, and time traveling allows them to progress a sizable amount in the farther between sessions.
Yeah, I think that JelloApocalypse's point of "If I have 6 hours to play today and no time tomorrow, I'm gonna play it now" is a fair point for a lot of people's reasoning.
Exactly. As others said, if it's not interfering with anyone else's experience, let them play how they want. I do not have as much time to play video games any more so there are certain ones that I will put on an easier difficulty just to pound out the story in a faster time. I don't see any issue.
I’ll always see time traveling as cheating myself out of a better experience, which is why I don’t do it and don’t understand the appeal of it. But I’m not in a position to tell people how to play their game, so have at it.
pong channel. To me, Animal Crossing is a game of patience. About living life and watching things build up slowly. I can understand people who go back a day because they don’t have time to play in their busy lives, but will never understand the appeal of skipping for impatience’s sake. But that’s okay, because it’s not about me.
My only thought about using time travel occurs when, well, a situation like what is happening now occurs: seasonal event overlap. In this case, bunny day has saturated the sky presents with so many eggs and bunny day recipes that it has made finding the much more desirable (at least, from what I've seen) cherry blossom furniture and gear recipes that much harder to get. It feels like you just have to get lucky to find one, just like finding a stringfish among black bass or a tuna among sea bass. And having to get lucky and spend hours of vigilance searching the skies for the few non-striped balloons and hoping they have a new cherry blossom recipe inside is pure tedium. Thus, I can understand the people time warping a year ahead so that bunny day isn't smothering the cherry blossom blooming. If the game is actively preventing you from getting the things you want, and the things you want can only be gotten at a certain short time period each year (cherry blossoms go away after the 10th, bunny day event ends after the 12th), it feels like if you don't want the game screwing you over on a hunt for good, once a year only items, you are in the right to punch the game in the face since it has punched you first. TL;DR: The bunny day event has made everything more tedious and grindy for those who want to find sakura items before the blooming event ends. This bunny day thing freaking sucks.
I saw a post that someone did on reddit where they analyzed all their balloons. Apparently they spawn on one side of the island in the day and the other side at night. And when they spawn the last digit on the clock is always either 4 or 9
This isn't actually true. The Bunny Day balloons and bottles don't replace the standard ones. You get standard bottles and balloons at exactly the same rate you did before. You just get three times as many overall, with the added Bunny Day ones. The idea that it has made it harder to get Sakura items is complete fiction.
@@DeltathRiylaan I agree w u 100%, all I do is stand by the beach of whatever side my regular balloons come and farm DIY recipes and regular balloon drops. Bunny day doesnt effect it at all
@@WOAHfroggirl Yeah, I mean, it's just math. The rates of standard balloons are the same. It just feels different for some because they see so many bunny balloons. But it's just you get three times as many overall. I just ignore the Bunny ones if I don't want them.
I love time travelling; however, that doesn’t mean that I make a “perfect” island and then just stop playing lol. I am just very impatient and if I’m waiting for something that will happen the next day, I’ll just time travel. Idk it just makes the game more enjoyable for me 🤷🏼♀️ everyone’s different though
Lucas Stammen why are you so triggered? It just makes the game more enjoyable for me. I spent my $70 on the game so I’ll play it how I like, same works for you 🦋
@@xJudgmentHD It depends on how much you want those extra bells. Once you've paid off your loan fully, large amount of bells aren't really nessecary anymore.
i think the argument boils down to two different sides: quantity vs quality there are some people who just want to be able to do everything they can as quickly as they can and have completion satisfaction that way, and there are people who think that completion is more about devoting time and effort into things it's the difference between someone who speedruns minecraft and someone who spends 1000 hours in a survival world making a city the only exception in the animal crossing scenario is that you're pulling the wool over the game's eyes by changing the switch's clock to enjoy the game how you want to, and while i'd never do it, i wouldn't criticize anyone for doing it
I mean I just don't mind time travelers, everyone can play their single player game however they want, when people start exploiting with multiplayer games then yeah that's where it's bad, because you affect other players.
I did for that and also to buy clothes, my store didnt sell long pants for a whole week and them they were gone the next day so I decided to skip for that
@@maximumforce8275 Just about every single time, yes. Like this video, for instance. Even feigning the middle ground, Arlo makes a video to call out and look down on time travelers, using "just my opinion" as an excuse. I'm sure it happens occasionally, but I've never once seen a time traveler make a big deal out of time traveling without provocation from a non-time traveler.
The only reason I really do time travel is because I play late at night and I hate it when I can’t do anything like able sisters nooks cranny and my villagers go to sleep
If you work 10-12 hours this game wasn't designed for you, so TT'ing is a necessity. People are forgetting that due to a combination of younger players and you know, a global quarantine.
Personally, I have the time set a few hours earlier than my actual time because I normally play in the evening. I don't consider it time traveling since it's a one time thing and it's still the same day, just different time zone
@@Jay-fs2nw I'm a night owl when I don't have to work days, I work nights, so I do the exact same thing. I sleep during the day and play at night. The game lets people like us do that, thankfully.
@@Jay-fs2nw My impression about that, is what you and Jim describe would be considered "fine". I'm a pretty heavy night-owl myself, so I wouldn't consider a minor time-tweak like that to be an issue. It's more about just how extreme someone gets with it that some would considered it a "problem". Like, skipping ahead weeks, or even months, is where such actions become "questionable".
How is it cheating? You just skip time to make it go faster. It doesn’t make the game less of a grind it just gets rid of the waiting an entire day for something. Getting money is still such a pain even if you do time travel. What’s the difference if people who don’t time travel are still further and doing more than someone who does?
So "time traveling" has been a concept since the Animal Crossing on Gamecube. It was literally embedded into the game itself. So I do not know why people are questioning it 18 years later?
new players to the franchise :/ Time travelling is embedded inside of the games culture as well and in new leaf i knew practically everyone time traveled sooo
some players just discovered what animal crossing is and their first game is new horizons so they just accuse people who have been playing it for years of cheating
Jaxter see you say practically everyone in new leaf time travelled but I strongly disagree. In the last few years it’s impossible to tell if someone TTed because of how long the game’s been out. I see more people with NH posting their TT beautiful worlds than non TT posting their less pretty worlds
I love to decorate, I want my island to look like a city, and if I were to do all of that legitimately it would take YEARS to achieve that goal. I'd probably lose interest in the game entirely before I even got close. I don't want this to feel like some clash of clans upgrade system I want it to be my dream island. This large amount of unnecessary waiting makes this feel more like a pay to win app than an actual game
Actually, you can time travel with Turnips, AS LONG as you ONLY go forward and obviously not to the following sunday. If you go backward even 1 minute, it will rot all of them instantly.
i made this mistake last night. I accidentally jumped one day too far, so i went back one day and the 700K of turnips i bought all rotted, left me with 300 bells. I accept my punishment Tom, but I'm still going to do it again
I spent my own money on a game, I'm gonna play it however I want (as long as it doesn't affect anyone else's gameplay). Don't tell me how to play unless you're gonna give me a refund for the $60 spent (this isn't directed at you just at people who feel this way)
@fleurma76 this is exactly my thought too. I'm busy with lots of school work now with the quarantine so I only time travel because sometimes I don't even have time to just do anything by myself.
It’s the same concept of spending $50 on an extravagant meal and shovelling it into your mouth like a pig instead of savouring it. But hey, you paid for it.
Luci “Sir, why are you devouring your food? You paid good money for it. Don’t you want to appreciate the flavor and the texture? Our chefs spent so long on it.” *loud munching* “I’m enjoying what I want when I want it! Leave me alone!”
This discourse is so tiring to me in my opinion. When I was playing New Leaf, I was in college and had classes early in the morning and late into the night depending on the day. I time traveled because if I didn’t I couldn’t enjoy my town during the different times of the day and I couldn’t get the different fish and bugs of the day. Or even enjoy the holiday events! When I was playing Wild World I never time traveled and I took it super slow and I played every day like the game is “designed”. I’ve been jobless and in quarantine so I’ve been stuck in the house for a month now and I’ve been playing everyday as “designed” as well for New Horizons. I’ve been both the time traveler and the pure player and what I’ve learned.... is who cares? We can’t police how people play a game and we can’t get mad and yell at strangers on the internet just bc you find it “unfair”. The experience of a game and how it’s played is different for everybody and it can only be yours. That attitude of “I can’t tell people what to do” is the right way to think. Your feelings of time travel, whether you like it or not, are totally valid cause they’re YOUR feelings but you can’t make anyone else do whatever because of YOUR feelings. Great video Arlo, you hit the nail on the head! Though...... the only thing I’ll admit to being close to say “you’re not playing it right” is when it came to the duplication glitch. Glad they patched it. Anyway, I hope you’ll give us an island tour soon Arlo 👀
my ADHD screams at me to time travel, so i do lol i always have in every single AC game. I can assure you that if you time travel a few days within a single real day, youre not cheating yourself out of much. accumulating furniture and DIYs without trading is still a tedious process. If its cheating to forward a day so my renovated house is ready, then oh well. i still have to play and work to get items to fill that new room so it's still fun to me
The game is so slow in the first few days when you really want to play, it’s almost frustrating. After a month or two the rush isn’t there, but you can’t fault people for wanting to get their stuff all up and running.
I personally only time skip one day at a time, only to move houses, and only time skip sometimes after I’ve done everything I possibly could in that day. I personally like to binge and waiting an entire day for something isn’t really fun for me.
"it was designed to be played a little bit at a time"

Same
Mihika Bangarbale you play that little bit then BOOL
Same but 12 hours. Classic social distancing...
Me playing 360 hours straight
I said that same thing to my sister and then I've been constantly playing nonstop

Time travelling affects my game because people are advertising turnip prices and I feel like i just got scammed bc they keep going back to that date and farm tickets then I don’t feel like I deserve them
I think everyone can play however they want, but it is true that time traveling kills a big part of the essence of the game. The answer is:
*drumroll*
The way you enjoy it, that's the way you should play.
SavatoEX too bad
SavatoEX it’s not really a competitive game so you can’t get an edge or really cheat.
It’s not meant to be competitive, yet for just about everyone playing, it is. That’s why people want to cheat and get a leg up on everyone else. All so they can brag about how awesome their island is on social media. Don’t think for a second that this game isn’t competitive.
As a person who tries to time travel in absolute moderation, let me give my 2 cents on the first of your problems:
*Not enough time:*
As a person who I assume has played animal crossing a lot, you should understand this one even more.
Why are there only 7 likes.
Hard agree
Host when i time traveled in new leaf (it was when i had just started) i traveled to every holiday, just because i wanted to see what would happen. when i came back i had been mayor for more than a year and i still only had a tent lmao-
Same here.
Animal crossing is one of those games that you can play however you want, and it doesn’t matter if you play it a different way than someone else
@Suvidh Sudheer same
yeah i mean people buy it with their own money so-
I time travel some times.
Is it just me or do weeds in acnh look kinda good--xd

Apsolutly right!!!! I'm thinking about keeping weeds in certain areas
i like the clovers but thats pretty much it (although i do have this part in the middle of my island where i let weeds grow out so i can get them for DIYs and ngl that part looks pretty good)
I mean me too-
I put in the work in new leaf.
But I get and respect why you do it
She's not taking about that context and length
The opposite for me, major time traveler in new leaf and now in NH I swore I wouldn't ever, best decision for me.

GenericWhiteMale you could do that, but what’s the fun in that?
Common misconception. You can play once every couple weeks. Doesn't need to be played daily.

Actually that’s cool
(TLDR at the end, as well as a conclusion for a more thought out tldr)
My experience with time travelling has been all over the place.
I've played two games, new leaf and new horizons.
In new leaf at first i NEVER time traveled, this was easier because it was back in high school when i had a good schedule, i could play after school, in between classes, or whatever. I lived like this for a long time and i think honestly as someone whose played with TT in many different forms, this is the best one (or the next one i will mention)
Then when i started to have a less normal schedule i found that my shops and things were never open, i was only available to play games REALLY late so even if i just collected stuff i wouldn't be awake, or around, to sell them when the shops were open.
Now in NH i've done multiple different types of TT
I TT'd the first day i got it to skip to the second day so i could open my airport as me and my girlfriend desperately wanted to see each other and such so i honestly think something like that is fine. I think them locking the social aspect of the game behind a 24 hour time wall wasn't wise or needed, especially right now with all the social isolation going on people just wanna connect as much as possible.
After awhile of playing normally, i had everything without time travelling (other than that first day)
I had everything unlocked and upgraded, from nooks shop to the museum, all the new villagers and the able shop, even my house was fully upgraded, i even officially had terraforming.
This was where i think i messed up.
I purchased NFC cards to get the villagers into my town that i wanted (this isn't the mistake, i think this is fine if people really want this kind of play style)
The mistake i made was once i found out you had to invite every amiibo to your town 3 days in a row i ended up breaking and doing it all at once by time travelling.
The issue with all this was that a lot of places charge an entrance fee or various things from money, to NMT to gold nuggets, and this was on top of the problem that half the time we'd join queues on the website and wait over an hour only for the island to close down and we'd be stuck looking for a new place (this happened to me about 5 times one day, it broke my spirit, especially because i basically do nothing while waiting because i don't wanna queue in and have my inventory full of things and scramble to empty it and run to the airport and such since they can kick you from the queue)
This was where my friend suggested us time travelling to make money for our own little community.
But i know other people with different experiences
For example, my girlfriend time traveled a lot to gain money because to her, the making money part was not what she enjoys about AC, she likes dressing up, decorating, and everything.
Its in small doses and sometimes life gets in the way and prevents us from participating in things on a specific day (like bunny day or the fishing tourney, ect.ect.)
I think once you push past this is when it becomes less and less fun and "ruins" the game for you.
I personally try and do as little tt as i can now but i still partake once in awhile, especially if i dont do something in a specific time (or that time i stayed on the same day as my friend tt for days trying to get her villager to ask to move so i could steal him) i dont think tt is inherently evil, i just think its very possibly going to ruin fun for people and is kinda hard to go back on it once you start, unless you wipe your file or get rid of every item to gained from tt.
all in all i think its mostly a coin toss, i will never look down on people who tt, i think others who do are kinda ridiculous cause its a fucking game and people can play it anyway they want, its not like its a fps game where people "hacking" (i say hacking loosely cause i dont really think tt is hacking but you know what i mean) can ruin the game when you're doing PVP, but AC is a singleplayer (with social aspects) and you tting to get that cute mom sweater isnt going to affect anyone else other then maybe make others jealous that you're badass enough to tt to get it :P
anyways, i hope you're having a good day, its after midnight which is the worst time for me to rant about time travelling in a game lol i just keep going in circles.

Literally the most wholesome comment I've ever read in my life. 10/10
They pretty clearly have stated their opinion on item dupes. They patched that out on the 1st of April.
You can’t cheat in a game where there is no winning or losing, and the “whole point of the game” is to play however you want
Why
A "game" would imply that you can either win, or lose. Exactly how do you do either of those in AC? The closest thing I can think of to "losing" in AC is getting stung by a Tarantula or Scorpion, and even then, all it does is reset you to the dock or your house.
I caught my 3 fish/bugs fair and square, why the fuck should I wait a whole week to get my model made?
You can cheat because the game does have and end and that's when you want it too also the game is meant to be played daily so if your skipping days it ruins what your meant to do
bindi it says to gain advantage and you do gain advantages when you skip sooooo
bindi building faster better villagers is another thing
Pokemon players cheat: Community sleeps
Animal Crossing players cheat: IT'S TIME FOR A CRUSADE!
Pope of gaming: Now if you help nintendo fight against the evil time travelers you will go to the nexte3 for free!
I've time traveled sometimes, but only backwards. I only do this if there is an event I missed, like Daisy Mae selling turnips, mainly because my sleep schedule is trash, and I can't wake up earlier that 10 am to save my life
I.can relate It’s all because of the quarantine and playing so much animal crossing haha
^^^^^^
Same
Yeah, I also only go backwards. when I miss a holiday or event because work.
Rockets birthday is on the 14th of April. If I miss it, I will miss it, and I will have to suffer for it.
That's why I marked it on my real life calendar :)
Have I gone too far?
That seems pretty alright I'd say
SupaSqueegeePlays if you work 7 days a week sounds like you need to a find a better job.
@@inlinechris No 7 days a week is the way to get paid a decent amount

@Troll 4 Life sorry no in the future Nintendo takes over all of gaming media and humans are forced to play at least 5 hours of Nintendo games every day but it can’t be an old game on an old consul as that is illegal you have to buy the current game or consul Nintendo makes under penalty of death. Gimmicks like the wii are in every consul except they’re way more annoying. Anyone caught making a game will also be killed on sight.
Bowl o’ fruit Damn somehow deep down I always knew Nintendo would be that greedy but I didn’t want to believe it myself!
You shouldn't feel bad about it, its not harming anybody else. Who cares if you TT an hour or a year? I used to TT but for now I'm not :p
I don’t time travel for fear of ruining my experience, but also for the fact that I don’t feel comfortable changing my system’s clock
YES! Why do people think that the idea of messing with your systems clock that other games use is a good thing?

I wanna time travel past the bunny day event so I can stop getting eggs in my pond.
mood. i dont want my wood harvest to be 1/3 spoiled by those stupid eggs. and all the new fish this month are even harder to catch when 80% of the fish are all eggs. the balloons have to stop. i cant deal with having 30 balloons at once anymore. i dont even like or want any of the egg stuff anyway, other than the egg party dress because its only -sorta- cute, theres definitely cuter outfits than that eggy abomination. such as the sakura stuff, which seems to be even harder to get from low drop rates and all the incessant egg balloons. ive had enough of the dang eggs already and its only been five days. id had enough by day two. at least i did get all the sakura recipes.
Langsworth yeah I agree. None of the egg stuff I appealing to me at all. What makes it worse is how 80% of the fish are now eggs and with the trees and rocks it makes it harder to farm materials
I recommend crafting the bunny day dress. It sells for a decent amount of bells. I’m scrambling to get as many eggs as possible now lol

And you aren't a bad person for doing it, you can play it however you want. Don't let other people tell you otherwise.
If you want just set the clock in reverese. Set the time to AM and play the game like that :v you xan get the full extent of the game without time travelling.

Why do you play though if you clearly do not have the time for it?
To me the answer is: "It doesn't matter"
Animal Crossing isn't exaclty a competitive game, its more like a toybox, and criticizing someone over it its like saying "You can't build a Golden Gate using the Big Ben LEGO set!".
Probably it wouldn't matter that much

We want to play it slow but it sucks to get spoiled by timetravelers.
@@jasynthetic7975 - Yeah... although Arlo made a pretty good point:

Well yeah, that's kinda messed up; Because it could get in the way of other people's experience.
@Arakaneï its a game and not drug relapse you can fight the temptation
The real answer is that it is in fact cheating, just like using instant save and loads on emulators where you shouldn't be able to in the original games. Or using "cheat codes".
Accepting that doesn't mean that you refute this way of playing. As even the developers sometimes accept and encourage it (GTA)
You just accept the fact. Other than that, it doesn't matter.

Thank you guys for your work! Grocery workers are so much more important than people realize, especially now. Stay safe out there
This is time travel I can get behind

Yep, for me, time traveling spoils the point of looking forward to what you have to do the next day.
@@colin3ds1 uhhh time travelling isnt technically "in the game"
@@robespierre2837 It used to be. I think they mean that the developers intentionally didn't "fix" time travelling because people need it.
"It's your game. You play it how you like." Mr. Resetti would beg to differ.
Here's my experiences so far:
At the beginning, I did do a day or two of time traveling, because I had assumed it was like previous games and there was a hard cap on things you could do in a day, I got it on a Friday night, and like heck I wasn't going to spend only an hour over the whole weekend playing my new game!
As long as they can't screw other people's games it's their own experience to ruin or improve however they want
In my opinion, I rather not, since it wouldn't feel the same
Hot take; people only ever care about the logistics of time travelling when the game is first released because of pretty screenshots and completed museum tours (within 2 days of the game being released), and seeing that makes you feel like garbage because YOU haven't made that progress yet. Give it two months and no one will care again, because those screenshots and tours sting less
Edit: People in the replies might wanna relearn the lesson Animal Crossing teaches the player... the lesson being to chill out 😂😂😂
Exactly thank you
No not really
@@TriddyYT honestly, that goes for every game... it's easier to just avoid animal crossing content at all cost.
People getting jelly over houses and stuff you're exactly right
just a correction: your turnips will not spoil if you jump forward within the week you bought, they will only spoil if you time travel backward :)
Yea, I think the other thing is if the 2 hours a day you get to play is usually at night, then you don't get to play during the day very often.
Exactly. As others said, if it's not interfering with anyone else's experience, let them play how they want. I do not have as much time to play video games any more so there are certain ones that I will put on an easier difficulty just to pound out the story in a faster time. I don't see any issue.
@Dottoman Couldn't you just set your clock 8 or so hours off as a constant? Like setting your timezone as Japan while in USA and then just leave it.
I’ll always see time traveling as cheating myself out of a better experience, which is why I don’t do it and don’t understand the appeal of it. But I’m not in a position to tell people how to play their game, so have at it.
if you are low on time and want to get stuff quicker
pong channel. Thats not the point of the game and who on earth is low on time right now? Stuck at home?
pong channel. To me, Animal Crossing is a game of patience. About living life and watching things build up slowly. I can understand people who go back a day because they don’t have time to play in their busy lives, but will never understand the appeal of skipping for impatience’s sake. But that’s okay, because it’s not about me.

@@breadordecide ok but does it hurt anyone and is it better for some pepole? exactly.
They updated the game to fix the iusse.
I got a weed removal commercial during this video, and all I could imagine was Arlo bolting onto my lawn and just ripping at the grass.
Hope you don’t brag about your island then cause you’re still cheating
Lucas Stammen salty
Lucas Stammen why are you so triggered? It just makes the game more enjoyable for me. I spent my $70 on the game so I’ll play it how I like, same works for you 🦋
@Hexoonie the developers have said time traveling is not cheating lol
patience is a virtue
I cheated once and now I have to live with that guilt for the rest of my life.... The new incline looks nice though
Someone please explain.
You can also go back to the present tho
It‘s no a big deal tho..
Watching him hit the rocks without digging the two holes behind him hurts
Christopher that’s cheating
You only get 1 extra resource, usually 1 more clay. It's not worth the time.
When you get the money rock it’s an extra 8,000 though. I would say it’s worth the extra 5 seconds
@@xJudgmentHD It depends on how much you want those extra bells. Once you've paid off your loan fully, large amount of bells aren't really nessecary anymore.
100% but going off of arlo’s way of playing he is still working on his loan. Which is why watching him hit the rock with no holes hurts lol
i think the argument boils down to two different sides: quantity vs quality
there are some people who just want to be able to do everything they can as quickly as they can and have completion satisfaction that way, and there are people who think that completion is more about devoting time and effort into things
it's the difference between someone who speedruns minecraft and someone who spends 1000 hours in a survival world making a city
the only exception in the animal crossing scenario is that you're pulling the wool over the game's eyes by changing the switch's clock to enjoy the game how you want to, and while i'd never do it, i wouldn't criticize anyone for doing it
I mean I just don't mind time travelers, everyone can play their single player game however they want, when people start exploiting with multiplayer games then yeah that's where it's bad, because you affect other players.
The only time I ever time traveled was to open my airport on the first day so i could play with my friends faster lol
That's what I did! Haven't time traveled sense.
that's 100% justified
I did for that and also to buy clothes, my store didnt sell long pants for a whole week and them they were gone the next day so I decided to skip for that
That's pretty understandable imo
You monster! I'm canceling you on twitter now!

Just about every single time, yes.
@@Sin_Alder impossible...there is...someone with a brain?
The only reason I really do time travel is because I play late at night and I hate it when I can’t do anything like able sisters nooks cranny and my villagers go to sleep
„It was always designed with a busy person in mind“
Ah so thats why I need to play this game during regular work hours to experience everything
Like, skipping ahead weeks, or even months, is where such actions become "questionable".
in short: is it cheating
yes
is it wrong because of that
no
have fun
How is it cheating? You just skip time to make it go faster. It doesn’t make the game less of a grind it just gets rid of the waiting an entire day for something. Getting money is still such a pain even if you do time travel. What’s the difference if people who don’t time travel are still further and doing more than someone who does?
How is it cheating when there is no competition and nothing to win
ZeldaN64Fan 9:53
chloro like I said I agree with arlo it ain’t wrong there’s no harm play the game how you want I couldn’t care have fun
Pokesnipegaming I understood that part but you still classified it as cheating.
So "time traveling" has been a concept since the Animal Crossing on Gamecube. It was literally embedded into the game itself. So I do not know why people are questioning it 18 years later?
new players to the franchise :/
Time travelling is embedded inside of the games culture as well and in new leaf i knew practically everyone time traveled sooo
some players just discovered what animal crossing is and their first game is new horizons so they just accuse people who have been playing it for years of cheating
ALLL THIIISS
People can hold an opinion, but not make a video about it until later on.
@@xxjabarri2xx T____T F. In chat lol
That's how I found out too, I fucking lost my entire bank on it T____T
I spent my own money on a game, I'm gonna play it however I want (as long as it doesn't affect anyone else's gameplay). Don't tell me how to play unless you're gonna give me a refund for the $60 spent (this isn't directed at you just at people who feel this way)
@fleurma76 exactly, the last thing people should be doing is guilting and shaming someone
@@keyboardguru4212 its literally not its just enjoying what you want when you want it
Luci “Sir, why are you devouring your food? You paid good money for it. Don’t you want to appreciate the flavor and the texture? Our chefs spent so long on it.”
*loud munching*
“I’m enjoying what I want when I want it!
If its cheating to forward a day so my renovated house is ready, then oh well. i still have to play and work to get items to fill that new room so it's still fun to me
Ok so the "limited time" one is usually "can only play a few times a week" and less "only a few minutes a day
"Thank goodness this video is finally over!" - you should have just skipped ahead a few hours till it was ready! :)
Wholesome
Yeah now that I think about it I should of looked it up online too!
Troll 4 Life You don’t understand... Wait, you’re trolling?
Minecraft Butterfly I’m saying I should have looked up when this video comes out so I could time travel to that day!
