The N1 engine (so the story goes), was asked by Gibson Motorsport in the 1990's to be built, as the torque produced would crack the block from the longitudal twist produced, cracking at the turbo drain point, along with other improvements that Gibson Motorsport had worked out/ broke engines because of etc. The Japanese could never build the cars like Gibson Motorsport could- and they wanted to know how his team did it
Not too confusing. They are race spec versions of the consumer cars. I remember Mitsubishi making a version of the evo 8 that had no at, no radio, crank windows... you don't hear much about that car either. They're just rare so most people never hear about them. I'm sure there are more cars that have a stripped down model that was meant to be a racecar for the street.
JAF N1/N2/N3 are regulations valid in Japan used in national/domestic race events. These regulations can be found on Japan Automobile Federation web for 2022 or in "Yellow Book" called JAF Domestic Competition Vehicle Regulations. These are issued every year. Each year there are some changes for example until 1990 side exhausts were allowed (1990 300km Sendai Hi-land #26 Diesel Kiki GTR), until 1992 side mirrors could be replaced, 1993 air-jack systems could be installed and so on.
That is the type of show that would damage me is such a good way. One of my all time favorite production vehicles is the 34. I would drive either all day long.
I can tell you that Nissan Motorsport does use secret sauce My Stanza rally car used works brakes rear axle assembly steering gear etc and for instance the steering gear looks stock but is made from some very special steels, Brake disks on later models like Skylines were made by AP racing but Nissan supplied the billets that were used to manufacture the Brake disks when AP racing manufactured them. The works Struts I ran had very special front hub bearings that had etched markings on the bearings not stamped like normal bearings and were designed to be run at 110 NM of preload certainly not your average tapered wheel bearings those ones. The Rear axle bearings were specials basically like double sided Front inner bearings in a common one piece housing again etched numbers and the bearing retainers were twice as long as normal bearing retainers, The Differential housings Live Axle H 190 had baffle plates to keep diff oil from running away into the outside of the axle housings in long high G turns the Axle tube sections of the Diff housings had 3.5 mm steel machined sleeves pressed into the Differential tube sections all to strengthen for rally use. Diff centres were also specials and crown wheels and pinions also were specials and better than sports option parts. Alternators were specials, Turbo models are also custom hand built special Turbos such as the Bluebird Turbos made for the Safari rally in Kenya and with a life expectancy of one year of competition use. Going back to the early Nissan KP 710 rally cars they used special quite heavy siamese blocks , The Nissan FIA SOHC Cylinder heads used on the L series four cylinders are also quite special the rocker arm adjusters are a finer thread than production models for easier closer tolerance valve clearance adjustments, Nissan really did make some very special components for use by the Factory Teams across the world. I also had something that Nissan themselves do not have in their factory Race and rally Car Museum in Japan since sold and that was a Nissan PB210, Looks like a 120Y four door with an LJ torana style longer nose but with an LZtTwin cam engine at 1595 cc with up to 230 Hp depending on what events they were used in based on the Nissan LZ 14 Formula Pacific engines and that particular car was driven by Factory Nissan driver Sheka Mehta from Kenya in the Australian Southern Cross rally based out of Port Macquarie. So because so much of the gear used in my Cars was used by the actual Factory teams and supplied by Nissan Motorsport Australia when run by Howard Marsden and my later purchase of a Stanza Liftback Coupe was from Geroge Fury as it was his personal car and prior to that was Howards personal car when at Rallies around the country I had some useful contacts to obtain the right parts literally as used by the Factory team itself. I suppose it is like the Holden Motorsport Cars where things like on the line the body shells used for racing teams had twice as many spot welds in certain places compared to normal road cars actually done on the production line. I still have for instance the full factory build manuals for the Escort BDA MK 2 rally cars as back in the Day when Colin Bond ran the Cars I was involved in escort rally cars also, And every factory has some sort of "Secret sauce" I have been lucky enough to be privy to some of that insider information
The R32 Vspec ll was one of my all time favorite model I that tuned and raced when Gran Turismo first launched in 97’. Nissan does a lot of testing in the Nurburing race track, chances that N1 might stand for the tuning for that specific track, just one of my guessing.

The N1 was also painted this shade of white as it was the lightest paint (least amount of coats) available for the cars

Mitsubishi Evo RS comes to mind. They do the same thing
The difference in materials used (aluminium, steel, composites) led to the white paint discolouring at different rates, so they need painting sooner.

Hey I've seen that guy on Mighty Car Mods!!! Hell yeah!
Thanks for the knowledge
Alan Heaphy is just a genuine legend. I have very fond memories of hearing him tell stories over the years.
this is a special video, well done!
So cool! Id never heard of the n1's!
The Japanese could never build the cars like Gibson Motorsport could- and they wanted to know how his team did it
Phenomenal collection of GTRs! Wow. But the ultimate GTR for me is the R33 Nismo 400R.
I have a love hate relationship with these cars. I had a R33 GTST that i loved. Homeland security confinscated it. Still makes me sad 10 years later.
Why was your car such a menace? 😂😂
Another epic video. Thanks bro.
Thumbnail picture looks straight out of Gran Turismo 7!
These N1 is all freaking confusing
Not too confusing. They are race spec versions of the consumer cars. I remember Mitsubishi making a version of the evo 8 that had no at, no radio, crank windows... you don't hear much about that car either. They're just rare so most people never hear about them. I'm sure there are more cars that have a stripped down model that was meant to be a racecar for the street.
@@brandondeel3567not only evo 8, all evos had an RS Version except for the x
Yeah if I had the chance , I’d just get a 400R instead
Oh there were actually an RS version for X. My bad 😅
@@vetlogmobaho703And Suby’s had RA versions with no AC, lighter body etc
32 ❤
Great video and happy belated birthday 🎉
Thank you!! 😊
JAF N1/N2/N3 are regulations valid in Japan used in national/domestic race events. These regulations can be found on Japan Automobile Federation web for 2022 or in "Yellow Book" called JAF Domestic Competition Vehicle Regulations. These are issued every year. Each year there are some changes for example until 1990 side exhausts were allowed (1990 300km Sendai Hi-land #26 Diesel Kiki GTR), until 1992 side mirrors could be replaced, 1993 air-jack systems could be installed and so on.
seeing eddy wally in a larry chen video . wauw , rofll
Aussies really love their Gee Dee Ahs... 😁😎🤟
Sick!
I've seen an N1 S13 in Japan.... I have pictures of it from Miracle XBar.... At least the S13 was stripped and added rigidity via welds.
Is the Pulsar Vz-R N1 the only non skyline N1 that nissan made? Or are there other models with the N1 moniker
For anyone wondering where the "N1" name came from it's Group N racing. Think Group A but way less modified.
My 33 has no rear wiper and didn’t have from factory. It was optional. Not just the glass. The stalk of course is different too
i love how andrew goes 10 years ago in 2002 hahaha
Not mentioned here, but I'm pretty sure the coat of painter is thinner, than a standard GTR, to save weight
ANDREW FIGJAM HAWKINS 😂
Mind blowing!!!
The R34 is such an awesome car.
What I read years back is the N1 is Nissan group"A" racing block, for the group"A" racing series back in the day, kiwi likes 👌
Do a Thailand series
Im not drooling.. your drooling!
The R32 Vspec ll was one of my all time favorite model I that tuned and raced when Gran Turismo first launched in 97’. Nissan does a lot of testing in the Nurburing race track, chances that N1 might stand for the tuning for that specific track, just one of my guessing.
The 34 was sold in Nür spec. Don't know the details though.
Missing the one of one N1 R1 though haha. That just changed hands and is in Sydney.
that old logo engine ornament is an aftermarket piece. Not a genuine made. But still looks cool
The Holy Grail of Motorsports!!! 😍😍😍😍😍💥👌🏻🤙🏻
I have sr20 n1 cams.. 😂 That's as close as I can get
So freaking coool! White is boss!
I drove N1 GTR 34 once in Gran Turismo 4🥰
He's explaining this like everyone knows. Why is the headlight worth more than some of the cars? What's different about them?
makes me want to go to the event next year
The holy grail of holy grail
I will return to watch this video is somebody tells me how these are more rare than a Nismo 400R
Because it's a factory Nissan production car. Not a post production car that's modified by the likes of Nismo who are a subsidiary company of Nissan.
Wonder if we can find a Japanese worker mech etc… that knew more about these N1
im drooling
Hey Matt where did you bought your all season trunk mat
Best GTR scene in the world there in aussie
This is great stuff. Is there a Z-Tune at the GT-R Festival?
