5 Changes Acura NEEDS to make to the 2024 Integra Type S // Owner's Perspective (Binaural Audio)

    I was lucky enough to be one of the first 200 to receive a Type S, and I immediately got to driving. You quickly learn that the Type S is one of the best daily drivers on the market. The car has a unique combination of comfort, fun, and luxury, like no other vehicle.
    But it is not perfect.
    The Type S has a few features missing, and some decisions made, that if Acura altered would take this car to ANOTHER level. What do you think? Am I insane?

    You are spot on with the main concerns. I will throw one in: summer tires. When you think about it they really want this car to out perform the Type R. Adding 3 gallons of gas would have added 18 lbs plus the material added to the tank. They shaved a couple pounds leaving out center rear seatbelts. They cut to the bone exactly as far as I would handle, anymore and i would loose interest in this car. I suspect there will be dealer upgrade options to re-add the poweer memory seat option, but not sure how we can make the gas tank bigger, that would require changes to the car physically. For us folks in the north this car becomes garage art in the winter months unless we buy a 2nd set of wheels/tires for winter.
    I would rather have the 2 memory seat option than a fancy steering wheel, for those at Acura taking notes. I totally get the lighter seat for the passenger and other weight saving changes, I even accept the no moon roof to save weight but the gas tank size and the lack of memory seats are a tough sell.

    Great video, sound and narration quality. I bought a 2023 liquid carbon A-spec 6MT with red interior last December. It has been a phenomenal machine. The stick shift action is unmatched at the car's price point. As news of the S-type started to come out months later, I started getting my hopes up that one might be showing up in my driveway in that gorgeous Tiger-eye pearl, that's until some of its aggravating omissions became apparent. No memory seats? Cmon! There's a spot right there on the door card for them that mine has! That and the full manual front passenger seat with less bolstering compared to the drivers seat is ridiculous. Also, replace the shiny black trim around the shifter. It would cost Acura very little to fix that. And I don't want to hear about weight savings and center of gravity excuses. There are other things that bother me that you pointed out, but I could look past them. But it makes little sense that I would have to sacrifice some of the equipment (sunroof, rear seat arm rest, rear seat USB charge ports) on my A-spec to move into the type S. Maybe Acura will make this car historic at some point like you said. Are you listening Acura?

    For me, it's missing the following. This is specific to Integra Type S: power front passenger seat, Iconic Drive color changing interior ambient lighting, true premium leather seats, rear climate control, and optional SH-AWD and moon roof. For $52K, all of these (other than the last two options), should be 100% standard. It's also important to know that all of these are standard on all other Acuras. ... oh also five seater. Unlike the Type R, it is not appropriate for this to be only a 4 seater.

    • @MoneyShift
      @MoneyShift  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agreed on the seat
      Agree on the ambient lighting
      While I hear you on the leather, the materials the seats have are really nice, so this one doesn't bother me as much
      Agreed on rear-climate
      I think this drivetrain is so good, I dont feel the need for SH-AWD, and lord knows if it had it it would be nearing RS3 pricing
      I hear you on the moonroof, this is another thing that doesn't bother me personally as I dont use it, but I understand.
      +1,000,000 on the 5 seater.

    • @TheJubJubb
      @TheJubJubb ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MoneyShift 100000% agreed on both your points, no rear climate control is abysmal and it would be a perfect car if Acura included the other luxury features common in its competitors. It's kind of embarrassing that Acura wants to claim this as a luxury vehicle when all these amenities are missing.

    I think all of your gripes are fair. The gauges really could use some creativity, and I would’ve loved some shift lights too (if I’m being greedy).
    I’m still waiting for my ITS, but I am not worried about the memory seat because my wife doesn’t drive stick. She also rides with me no more than 5 times/year, so she won’t care about power seats on the passenger side.
    I could be wrong here, but I am guessing the fuel tank issue is a necessary evil because all Civics (and Integras) get that tank as part of the car’s platform. Since the majority of these cars made and sold come w/ the 1.5L turbo 4-cyl, the 40 mpg (hwy) you get with that engine stretches that 12-gal tank to over 400 mi. of range. As a 2020 Si owner, I can attest to this.
    IDK if there’s room for a larger tank to accommodate the K20C1. That’s how it was with the FK8 (IIRC), and thus, the FL5 and DE5 inherit this shortcoming. If I missed anything with this theory, hopefully someone can clarify.
    Thanks for the video, Money Shift!!
    p.s. Props to your wife for also driving the ITS!

      Never thought of the fact they use the tank from the standard Integra Platform. Good call. I think if they adjusted the 5th and 6th gears, they can keep the 12 gallon tank. Sixth gear at 80mph should hover barely over 2KRPM. IMO.

    Usually hesitant to comment when so many comments. Like many in this string I own a'23 ASpec. They fixed a few things over ASpec faster, grippier, better exhaust. It is an enthusiast's car so I understand the reason for lack of somethings. But here's my list.
    - no memory seat
    - no pwr psngr seat
    - no rear ventilation (ASpec or S)
    - no rear charging port
    - 4 seater (petty)
    - no sunroof (adds weight I get it, but give me the option)

    The memory seats didn’t bother me until I took my car in for service. I was pissed bc I had it perfect 😂. Definitely wish the tank would last longer. Noticed that right away. Instrument panel is very boring but I do love how you can see the car on it if you have cruise control set to on or lane keep assist. I also swallowed the fact it doesn’t have ventilated seats or folding mirrors, but good thing they have about 5 more times that they will release this car and try to make it perfect. I’m not a huge sun roof guy but again for 50k plus it should have that and all these features. Also my car has the swapped gloss back gear panel to a alcantara one. Super nice. I recommend !

    I have the white fully loaded Integra type S with the red and black interior. First the sport plus instrument cluster is a exact replica of the old Integra type R, just so you know(that is what this car supposed to be). Second I agree with you on the highway, I don’t mind 5th being short like it is, but I do wish sixth was a little longer. Again, I do understand why because this car was technically made for the track and is basically the type R civic, Just a classic inversion or more adult vision. But your right lol. For the gloss black by the shift knob I keep a microfiber towel in my center consul. It looks nice but you’re right it definitely gets marked up easily. In time. I’m sure I’ll change it out when they make a newer version for the 2025 and 26 models.

  • @poundcake19741996
    @poundcake19741996 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Money Shift you nailed it. I own the same exact car and color. I think the challenge for Acura was likely time to market. The more they had to deviate from the Type R and the standard Integra, the more time it would have taken to launch, and then there’s the weight concerns around the gas tank and even the power seat. If they couldn’t match the Type R performance, that would have been an issue. I expect the electronic dashboard and seat memory will be resolved in the future. Not sure on the 6th gear. That was a good callout but might just come with the territory on a car that gets so much hp out of such a small block. Civic Si is similar at highway speeds.

    Dude, you are on the money!! That's the same thing I told the dealer when I went to go see it. The Memory Settings for the driver seat, the power passenger seat, the gloss black made it look cheap, but since I haven't driven it, I wasn't aware of the 5th and 6th gear closeness. My wife loves driving manual, so I'll have the same issue you have constantly adjusting the driver seat. The gas tank size is an issue if you can't get more than 300 miles a tank too. I think my wife's TLX is 6 Spd Auto and on Eco it gets almost 500 miles on a 15 gallon tank on road trips. Granted it's the standard TLX but you're right, Acura could improve on that by just making 5th & 6th gear farther. I still want the car and I have a deposit on one, but I'm waiting until spring since I want a specific color and the all weather mats and stuff like that. Anyway, you hit the nail on the head!

    I own a 2015 Civic Si and I made a mental note of the rpm at 78mph which was around 3200 to 3300. So almost 3,000 sounds like and improvement to me. But I do get your point. Honda is pretty notorious with the high rpm. Your complaints do seem well founded coming from the A-Spec but I've never in my life had even a driver side power seat or heating much less memory seat. So for me it will be a big step up whenever I get mine. I actually e-mailed Acura directly and they replied by saying that they will respond but it might be awhile because they are very busy.

    Slightly off topic, they should have announced the RDX Type S instead of the ZDX this year. And then put the CTR/ITS engine in the RDX (I heard the V6 doesn’t fit). The ZDX failed once and it will fail again when it returns. Why bring an experiment to the market when you can upgrade your current fleet?

Although I really don't care about the weight. Since this is marketed more for the street than the type R I think they shouldn't have held out on creature comforts.

I haven't driven the car yet. I wasn't going to anyway because it is missing some features for me that are deal breakers. To expand on your seats issues, I will not buy a car that doesn't have ventilated seats. I'd also like (not a deal breaker however) the Integra to have a moon roof. I would also prefer to have a car with all-wheel-drive. I am planning on buying a new car in the next couple years and have been looking into the TLX Type S. In that case, I am hoping they give it a slight feature refresh next model year. It needs to include the Advance/Tech package that the MDX Type S now has. Anyway, nice video, love the camera angles and the sounds was cool.

    Let me add another gripe: No automatic open/close for the hatch. As someone who uses the hatch daily (gym bag, kids school and sports gear), this really annoys me. And to top it off, the manual unlock/open mechanism is awkward to use. The integra is the only vehicle in the Acura lineup without an auto open/close for the trunk or hatch. Why?

    Very compelling review! Not a lot of YTers talking about this car have mentioned some of the things you did. I agree with the memory seat issue! If you weren’t going to include it in a TYPE-S, then don’t make the driver seat powered. Gauge cluster is boring. My 17 civic Si coupe has a nicer design. Did not know about the lack of quality for the passenger seat. I knew about it being manual but the difference in material is cheap production imo. Also, the lack of rear seat comfort is a big negative (no arm rest, a/c vents, charging ports). It all leads me to wonder if Acura pushed this out as a base model type S and in a year or two we get an “advanced package” to address the lacking tech features.

      Great option.
      The CT4-V Blackwing is a mega machine. At 66,000 MSRP vs the Acura at 52,000 MSRP, both cars are pretty much equal to me. I think the CT4-V offers enough to justify the price difference, but wouldn't fault you for going either one. While the CT4-V is RWD, the Integra Type S drivetrain doesn't drive like a 90s overpowered FWD hatch, it is so much more. While the seats are better on the CT4-V, the rest of the interior is similar to the Integra in terms of material and quality to me (after having sat in both).

    Hi. during many of your valid points you support them by saying something like, "for a $52,000 car..." I'm thinking the car is not really worth $52K, but they have to sell it at that price point to make a profit based on the expected units sold. Most of the $ is in the powertrain, & they know it won't sell as many units as say a base model or as another model due to the Type S being for a niche customer. Unfortunately there are not that many of said customers out there buying these types of cars across all brands let alone Acuras, so due to economies of scale they can't put $52k of features and accessories in this car that they normally would for an Acura that they'd sell more units of that would have higher margins which aren't there for this vehicle.

  • @stms4411

    I think your only legitimate gripe is the lack of a memory setting. This car is $52k in 2023 where the average price of a new car is $48k…..shocking though that may be, it’s a slightly above average cost for a demonstrably above average car.
    If the gearing were more suited to low revs, it wouldn’t be as fun in spirited driving.
    I don’t get the impression that your complaints suggest you don’t think you should have bought it, but I think you should be happy you have that vs the mediocre German sedans you referenced.

    • @MoneyShift
      @MoneyShift  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem becomes clearer when you realize that the A-Spec version of this very car has some of the things I complain about.
      -Memory Seats
      -Power Passenger Seat
      etc
      To your gearing point, how often are you doing spirited driving outside of gears 2-4? For me, in a backroad scenario, I am rarely above that to keep the revs high. That said, you are exactly right. I am bringing up these gripes, not to say I hate it, but to showcase to potential buyers the complete view of this car. As you say, the average price of a car is now 50,000, and if all you have to go off of are puff piece reviews, it is tough to make a decision! I am trying to change that.

    • @stms4411

      @@MoneyShift I appreciate what you’re doing…..but unfortunately for those of us that need to drive a manual, there are precious few options out there that are good. That amount to nothing as far as I’m concerned, cause they get the important things right.
      As for the gearing….yeah I suppose they could have had 6th be really tall and leave the others alone but I am not bothered by cruising with 3k or so revs.
