The 2024 Acura Integra Type S & 2023 Honda Civic Type R Is A Hot Hatch Family Feud

  • The #HondaCivicTypeR has been the king of hot hatches since it was introduced to America back in 2017. For 2024, it would seem like the #AcuraIntegraTypeS is looking to steal the crown from the #TypeR by borrowing all the goodies from the Civic for the first-ever #IntegraTypeS. Today, we have both the #TypeS and #CivicTypeR to see which one of these two #HotHatches from #Honda is actually the better buy.
Big shoutout to ‪@BernonCars‬ for joining us to do this comparison! He was testing the Civic Type R for his channel this week so be sure to go to: / @bernoncars to see his review on the Civic!

Happy Weds guys! We want thank Bern from @BernonCars for joining us for this comparison test! He was driving the Type R during the same week that we had the Type S so the timing just worked out perfectly! We also wanted to apologize for some wind noise, we forgot to bring a wind blocker for Bern’s mic but our editor, Rob did his best to minimize it. Would you guys pick the Type R or Type S? Let us know below!

I just came across this particular episode of Redline Reviews. I like the vibe that you and Bern impart to the review. WRT the two cars, both are beautiful and very well turned out. That Honda and Acura sought to differentiate their products was clear--the Acura folks really tried to make their car distinct--and it worked. But, then again, the Type R has loads of "distinct", too.
One minor gripe: a crucial part of the "pops and burble" dynamic in the Acura come from a valve that shifts the exhaust flow from the two outboard exhaust tips to the centre tip (and accompanying muffler).
If I had a Jay Leno-style garage space (and the savings account to match), I'd have one of each! Thanks for this.

Thanks for the video - I had been searching around for comparisons. When it comes to the question of which, it's tough for me. On one hand I really like what the Acura stands for: being more adult, having matching seats, better exhaust and a slightly more plushy suspension but what I don't like about it is the overfenders look kind of cheap to me. The front and back of the car look so good but idk. Maybe I just need to see it in person. On the other hand I like that the Honda is more raw, the dash is more minimal and the body of the car is just so much more seamless than the integra... Just the wide body around the wheel wells is integrated so well unlike the Acura. But I dislike the mismatching seats and the wing. Don't get me wrong, the wing is cool but as someone who has to drive into an office building during the week I don't want to be seen as the 'racer boy'. Both great cars - I might just have to see them more in person before making a decision.

Both fetch mark ups, the civic mark up is typically double that of the integra, so you’re talking 10-15k markup (I’ve seen as high as 20) for the civic, and the integra 5-10k (typically 7500, but I’ve seen as high as 15) making them damn near the same price. I think the integra looks better and since it has more features and is essentially the same price or less to buy… integra Type S all day.

Both the Integra Type-S and the Civic Type-R are really good cars. I would actually prefer the Integra Type-S over the Civic Type-R if I have to choose one of them. I love that the Integra Type-S has a bunch of good color choices for the interior and exterior. In comparison with the design, the Integra Type-S is more stylish than the Civic Type-R. And the fact both of them are powered by the turbocharged K-Series engine, they still make a good sound for the exhaust, but I think Acura did really well of what Honda could've done to make the exhaust system to sound mean. Still, the Integra Type-S and the Civic Type-R continues to be great cars to daily drive, but it usually depends on what you choose more often.

I like the comfort of the comfort interior and wheels of the Integra but I love the body of the Honda minus the table style boot spoiler. But I'd take the Integra over the Honda due to comfort, exhaust note, interior design and the audi system. Thank you atredline team for putting this video together. Other TH-cam channels have done the same but it was way too short and I have questions than than answers once the video is complete. So thank you so so much for answering like 95% of the questions I had. Bern was spectacular.. Big Ups!! Keep on pushing 🎉🎉

Great Review of both cars! I have the Type S, which is an awesome car. I have owned some fun cars in the past: Honda CRX, Prelude SVR, Civic SIR hatchback, Ford Fiesta ST, GLA AMG and have driven some super cars. The Type S is the most fun car so far. Just the perfect package. Couldn't ask for more, as far as performance is concerned. If I could have both the Type S and Type R! oh boy! I would use the Type R for the track.

If you compare these two hatches to comparable package crossovers, you get way more car out of these two at a lesser price. Better fuel economy, similar interior space, way more hp, and amazing handling.

I'd take the Type S in white with the wheels in black. The better styling will even stand out more with white/black contrasting colors for me.😊

I’d pick the Integra. Hate that we have to loose features to get more performance and power.

I was entertaining getting either but after seeing the type r not have parking sensors… I am not sure how I feel about that. 2023 it should be standard imo

A month ago I was going to but a white Integra Type S, but I was curious and also test drove a blue A-Spec manual with the tech package. I ended buying the A-Spec. I just felt I would've ended giving up too many usefull day to day features. No memory driver seat, no front passanger electric adjust seat, no sunroof, no fog lights. I don't understand what Acura was thinking when they removed all that stuff. At the end of the day the A-Spec gives me about 90% the daily experience for alot less money and better gas milage. I would probably bought the Type S if I was 10 years younger, but when you get older you just end up being more practical I guess.

I know what they were thinking.
All this unnecessary stuff will result in weight saving and stronger structural rigidity.
Important things on a sports car.

The backend of the Type R actually looks wider than the type S. The Acura is perfect except for that rear end....

There is $15,000 dealer markup on the Civic Type R in my area, which makes it a lot more expensive than the Integra Type S

The design of these two cars should’ve been switched….the CTR should have the more boy-racer look and Type S the more mature look. But agreed, the Integra is “just” a Type S and should’ve been offered with a sunroof option and all the bells and whistles. Save the hardcore stuff for an ITR.

Then people will complain that is too soft for a 51K.
There is no way to make everyone happy.
I love the idea that is literally a Type R with different badge.

If you think about it, just a hassle.
      It can leak
      The glass can break
Adds lots of wind when opened
      Raises the center of gravity
      Adds weight

Both are great cars, but I would have to go with the Integra for the heated seats alone.
