The Chauchat wasn't as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. It sure wasn't a cakewalk, 8mm Lebel in open sided magazines in the middle of a trench is not a good idea, but for a time when lightweight man portable machine guns were few and far between it was an admirable attempt to design one. French doctrine also had yet to catch up with how to properly use it, and at least by the end of the war they got a hold on how to deploy them, issuing close-sided magazines to small mobile groups of soldiers where they could be used most effectively. A lot of the issues that tarnished its reputation come from the American .30-06 version, which compounded a lot of the pre-established issues the original had ten-fold. When converting the Chauchat from the Metric measured 8mm Lebel to the Imperial .30-06, miscalculations trying to convert between the two systems resulted in the longer American round never properly seating into the chamber and having feeding problems near constantly. Stovepipe jams, failure to feed, casings being blown apart inside the chamber, the issues never ended. What few modified Chauchats did end up in the G.I.'s hands were almost instantly swapped out for the 8mm Lebel version because even if the original's reliability was questionable it was still leagues better than what the US tried making. In the inter-war period, as Chauchats were available in surplus, Belgium purchased a sum of the rifles and converted them into the 1915/27 variant, rechambering them for 7.65 Mauser with a straight solid magazine and dust covers absolutely anywhere that dirt could be introduced. What resulted of it was what many consider the be the most consistent, reliable version of the LMG. Better magazines combined with significantly less tapered rimless ammunition that was more ideal for automatic fire, alongside the plethora of dust covers that kept dirt out of the gun, meant that the Belgian 1915/27 model saw service well into WW2.

For those who don't know they added the tanker and pilot carbine's to the support and assault class in the final update just for fun. They weren't meant to be viable outside of pilot and tanker.
Fun fact: the Mg-08/18 has a secret reload animation that plays when you are at 13 rounds left in the drum, to which once that condition is met, it plays a music box theme for until the Belt is fully retrieved. Edit: Although i think only the Suppresor variant with the extended belt can cause this reload easier egg to trigger
The LMGs in BF1 aren't OP, they're just actually effective in the areas an LMG should be - unlike LMGs in almost every other competitive FPS game out there. I'm a huge Support/LMG fan in games - so I am on-board on this list and approach.
Amazing video as always. I can personally vouch as a fellow support player that we ate GOOD with this selection. Here are some of my personal notes - The Benet Mercie Telescopic I found to be really good as an impromptu AA gun, especially against the heavy bomber as if you can hit the weakspot you can remove about 1/2 its health with a single strip. If I didnt have to give up my absolutely beloved Burton LMR or Perino, it would easily be used in both my "offensive" and "defensive" support loadouts. The Perino is easily my favorite "heavy LMG", and to me just feels like a more respectable version of the M1917. Maybe its just the servers I play on, but a lot of the time I only see M1917 telescopic users act like snipers. Sitting on the back of the map, raining down suppression on everyone, occasionally getting a kill - and overall not really accomplishing much. (not to say that suppression isnt helpful, but god can they please just push the objective for once in their lives?) The burton LMR. Words alone can not express how much I love this gun. Something about it just clicks with me in a way really no other gun in a game has. The incendiary rounds also deal damage to boats (torpedo/landing craft, sadly not dreadnoughts or destroyers), which is very helpful on maps like Zeebrugge or Cape Helles. I am also still annoyed at how the optical variant is borderline useless due to how you lose out on the hipfire, for almost NO increase to accuracy. You are basically sacrificing your hipfire abilities (one of the Burtons strongsuits) for a slightly clearer reticle. I honestly am still confused to this day why they gave the pistol carbines to SUPPORT of all classes. They would of been INFINITELY more useful on Scout or even Medic. Giving scout an assortment of more close-range options would of greatly benefited them. Out of them all, the Pieper is easily my favorite - its a guilty pleasure. The ammo count is ridiculous, and plus its a revolver carbine which is something I like. Also, it has the longest range out of all the pistol carbines. (as in, the bullet travels the furthest before despawning) - so with that ammo count, just spamming is actually "viable" (by the standards of pistol carbines, of course.) And if the C96 carbine's sights wernt so awful, I could see it having a sort of niche playstyle with two suppressed weapons (M1911 and the C96) - but, such is life.
This is a great comment, thank you! I’ve got some notes to share. When I was in the editing phase of this video I realized I needed extra footage of the Burton LMR actually damaging planes, so late in production I went in and got the clips you see of me grounding planes in Sinai Desert. But once I got those I preceded to menace the buildings off the British spawn side of Mazar Wireless, racking up top kills of the game, it was an incredibly satisfying experience the likes of which I hadn’t had with it before. It raised my opinion of the Burton more than I was able to indicate in the video. Personally, I don’t mind the sights of the C96 carbine so much, I know aperture sights aren’t great in this game, but these seem more consistent than the P08/Mle 1903/M1911 sights, whatever the case, it felt like a nicer shooter to me personally than the M1911 Extended or P08 Artillerie. Also I agree that people who stay in the back with machine guns like the M1917 give it a bad name.
Medic and Scout didn't get any of the Tanker/Pilot weapons because their primaries need to be compatible with the rifle grenade launcher and K-bullets, respectively. If they were made available to other classes earlier in the game's life cycle maybe something could have been done, but this was right near the end of development so the team just didn't have the resources to create a workaround. As a result, two were given to Assault and the rest were dumped on Support.
@@professormemsclass Yeah, my guess is that there's a lot of esoteric coding behind both gadgets that would need to be rewritten to make them work with the pistol carbines. The K-bullets especially. In case you're not aware, equipping K-bullets without a primary weapon (possible either through a pistol only server or the companion app) gives you a Russian 1895 that's missing both its sights and barrel, effectively looking like a bootleg Mare's Leg. It'd be funny if you gave it a mention in your Scout tier list.
As someone whose name is Mads, i really appreciated when you took the time to clarify the real pronunciation of the Madsen MG. Not many other youtubers would even consider looking into that.
I find it kind of funny that the BAR was supposed to be an improved version of the concept behind the Chauchat yet in BF1 the Chauchat out performs the BAR in every sense of the word. I will give the BAR this though. I know Browning intended to have the rifle be “walking fire,” where soldiers would pop out of a trench on mass and shoot from the hip as they advance (fun fact the Chauchat and experimental versions of the Villar Perosa were intended for this same tactic). Given the BAR’s awful recoil, and trench variant hip fire is the only sure fire way to hit your targets. So in a way the walking fire idea for the BAR lives on. Sidebar: This may not be the case with everyone as I am primarily a scout and assault player and play on a controller so recoil controls while ads is already a pain.
As an avid BF1 player and one-time BF5 player, these tier lists got me to give BF5 a second chance, and it definitely feels like I was missing out. The fact they aren't based on meta makes them actually enjoyable to watch. Keep up the great work :]
@professormemsclass Eh, there's millions of meta tier lists out there for people who want that. The fact that there's plenty of "meta" guns I end up not finding enjoyable to use in these games means tier lists like these are refreshing.
Omg you were on the CCC server and I never put two and two together! I hope to see you more there now that I'm actually paying attention XD (On a side note I do remember this match at 17:09 vividly because i played so badly that CCC felt the need to call me out. Feels bad man)
Hard disagree with the bar placement. Its vertical recoil can be completely compensated for with some practice, leaving a weapon that is even more accurate than the madsen (ignoring the madsen low weight). This makes it a weapon able to compete with smgs up close and still reach the same ranges as other lmgs.
I find it interesting how your tier list contrasts with how mine would be if I made one. For reference, my best class is Assault, with Support second, however my best weapon is the lMG 08/18 Suppressive. All the guns you put in C tier would be in my A and S tier. I think the reason for the difference in opinion is because my mentality when using LMGs can basically be described as "haha, big gun go brrrt." Since you're playing Support, and thus effectively have unlimited ammo, accuracy through volume is a valid tactic, so I tend to gravitate toward high rate of fire and ammo capacity guns. I also find it incredibly fun to just hold down the trigger like a madman and fill the air with lead. (...I really hope that sentence doesn't put me on some kind of watchlist.) For me, S tier would be the lMG 08/18, Parabellum, and BAR, and A tier would be the MG15, Madsen, and M1909. Recently I feel like the Parabellum Low Weight has been overtaking the lMG 08/18 Suppressive in my eyes, and is also statistically better than the Parabellum Suppressive. The fact that Low Weight variants have superior spread reduction per shot compared to other variants, when combined with the Parabellum's high firing rate, means that the Parabellum Low Weight quickly gains accuracy with even just a short burst of fire. I find it best to use the AA sights on it, as the open sight picture makes the recoil less disruptive, and in close quarters you can just use hipfire and any enemy you look at for half a second gets deleted. Also, Latin names are cool.
I want to like the BAR, but why is it a 5 shot at long range? It fires the same rifle round as the Springfield. It should be able to kill a lot quicker at long range
Great video I love your content , I’ve been a battlefield fan for awhile and took a long break. When I found your channel, I’ve got back into BF1 and BFV. I’m looking forward towards the scout weapon tier list. Hopefully you’ll make a gadget tier list.
The next one is going to be rough, I think. But I hope my beloved 1895 Trench would be a separate case due to its difference among the peers. And oh boy it slaps for that difference
I'm sure you probably know this already, but if you don't, or for anyone else who maybe didn't play this game in the early days, the pistol carbines were originally intended for use only with the tanker and pilot classes. They're deliberately underpowered to discourage people from using tanks and planes as transports, using them only to get to a location, then abandoning them. I actually like this idea, and I wish they would've implemented a similar feature in BFV. It makes a ton of sense too, because these types of emergency defense guns would've typically been given to vehicle crews so that they wouldn't be completely defenseless in the event that they need to ditch their vehicle. I hate that in BFV if you're a tanker or pilot and need to leave your vehicle, no matter what faction you're playing on, you're forced to use the Sten. It always just felt like an unfinished aspect of that game. At least later in BFV's life cycle they updated the tanker and pilot characters to kinda look like tankers and pilots, instead of default soldiers like they originally were... Okay I gotta stop now before I get too depressed thinking about how much potential Battlefield V still had before they stopped updating it.
Hi Professor I was GgjwMaN23 at 29:30 I can't believe I actually guessed that Burton rating! I love your videos, and i can't wait to see your Scout guns review (I main the SMLE)
The Burton's big utility is hitting the Airship Behemoth with the incendiary rounds. Does lots of damage, a few guys with those can chip down an Airship's health quick!
_"-And with the recoil as predictable as the fate of the family dog in a horror movie..."_ Awww, mean. :( But jokes and rambling aside, it's really been really awesome to see you grow so quickly: Both in terms of your channel and your video skills. I really noticed in this one that the editing was tighter, you seemed to josh around a bit more and it was so cool to see you including your community. You've come so far, so fast and I hope this momentum continues, regardless of if you decide to pursue TH-cam for a living or not. Also, I hope your move worked out well for you and that you took all the time you need to settle in all good and proper. Otherwise, lil' bit bummed by how they did the BF1 BAR dirty, but at least the Burton makes for a great WW1, both with the ascetics and the AA incendiary rounds which I love abusing. Oh, that and I absolutely adore the Perino as someone who both loves big, clunky, experimental machine guns with too much going on, and as someone who compulsory reloads. Don't get me wrong, I like the Type 11 in BFV, but it's nice having both the massive 120 magazine as well as the freedom to top it up whenever. It really makes encourages me to just shoot my shot with it, even if it's not doing much to hinder the enemy, just because it's never a hassle to just drop another clip in. Regardless, looking forward to your finale for BF1 and I hope you have a blast cooking up the next stage of your channel.
I gotta be honest, you have the wildest playlist for background songs that I've ever seen in someone's video. I think it especially stands out just because it's a BF1 video. Other channels just put a generic song or the BF1 ost playing in the background.

Great video, Mem! Love the Nightfire track. Can't wait for the next one!
You mean I don't have to hard pronounce the D in Madsen? This is the greatest day in BF1 voice communication ever for me.
Really fun video as always! Love pretty much all of the LMGs in the game. Though my favorites are easily the lewis and the M1917 MG
Finally. Support may finally be an interesting class to me.
The LMGs in BF1 aren't OP, they're just actually effective in the areas an LMG should be - unlike LMGs in almost every other competitive FPS game out there. I'm a huge Support/LMG fan in games - so I am on-board on this list and approach.
I love all of the experimental looking weaponry from world war one, I love using all of these weapons especially with the country I'm playing
Your videos are awesome, good to see these videos being pushed. Good luck moving forward.
Thank you!
And I was just thinking about when the next upload would be...
Good stuff mate
Thanks!
Amazing video as always. I can personally vouch as a fellow support player that we ate GOOD with this selection.
Here are some of my personal notes -
The Benet Mercie Telescopic I found to be really good as an impromptu AA gun, especially against the heavy bomber as if you can hit the weakspot you can remove about 1/2 its health with a single strip.
(not to say that suppression isnt helpful, but god can they please just push the objective for once in their lives?)
The burton LMR.
Ah right, I had forgotten about how the rifle grenades and K bullets might have affected it.
I didn’t know that! Thank you so much!
Your narration is so similar to Nerrel! Very soothing, straight to the point and clear cut
LETS GO! congrats on 11K subs as well.
Thank you!
I think the chauchat is probably my favorite out of all the lmgs in bf1
As someone who just started playing it's nice that there are current and informative videos like this
Now I cant wait for the scout episode, these tierlist are seriously well put together
My man has a crazy good music taste. Using both music from wii punch out AND mgrr deserves a sub for sure.
As someone whose name is Mads, i really appreciated when you took the time to clarify the real pronunciation of the Madsen MG. Not many other youtubers would even consider looking into that.
Chauchat is hands down my favorite support weapon, it just feels so damn good to fire. Great list!
I appreciate the fact that you appreciate Chauchat. *_Chugg_*_ intensifies_
Your content rocks dude. Super entertaining, makes time fly by real fast. Your rating “style” is also really cool.
Glad to hear it!
I miss this game:( the beta with the boys on Sinai will always be a core memory of being a teenager. Played it consistently
The fact that I’m waiting for new BF1 videos to come out is top tier
Chauchat bf1: 🙂
Chauchat in reality: 😡😡😡
say what you want about the Mg 15. But it is by far the best feeling and most satisfying to use.
Fair enough
Once again the peak of battlefield 1 content
Will do, and I’m glad to hear that despite people who feel the opposite, there are plenty of people who like my angle on the Tier Lists.
@professormemsclass Eh, there's millions of meta tier lists out there for people who want that. The fact that there's plenty of "meta" guns I end up not finding enjoyable to use in these games means tier lists like these are refreshing.
Omg you were on the CCC server and I never put two and two together! I hope to see you more there now that I'm actually paying attention XD
(On a side note I do remember this match at 17:09 vividly because i played so badly that CCC felt the need to call me out. Feels bad man)
Daaang I'm sorry, glad to share a server with ya though!
Hard disagree with the bar placement. Its vertical recoil can be completely compensated for with some practice, leaving a weapon that is even more accurate than the madsen (ignoring the madsen low weight). This makes it a weapon able to compete with smgs up close and still reach the same ranges as other lmgs.
this tierlist in general is scrubby
(...I really hope that sentence doesn't put me on some kind of watchlist.)
For me, S tier would be the lMG 08/18, Parabellum, and BAR, and A tier would be the MG15, Madsen, and M1909.
Fair perspective
Wow I’ve been waiting 8 years for this
The highlight of my week
Flattering to hear
@@professormemsclassan in-depth analysis of one of my favorite games?
Yes please!
Just an extra thumbs up for using the SM64 sound font Black Hole Sun cover. Kudos.
Not putting Big Papa BAR in S tier is crazy
BAR sucks
It used to have much better recoil.
Boring gun IMO
I want to like the BAR, but why is it a 5 shot at long range? It fires the same rifle round as the Springfield. It should be able to kill a lot quicker at long range
If it had a 30 round mag, maybe, but in a class where reloading is a liability, no
I can appreciate the use of the Bully OST on a completely different game type
Good music is good music (especially useful if it doesn't get Content ID'd)
Great video I love your content , I’ve been a battlefield fan for awhile and took a long break. When I found your channel, I’ve got back into BF1 and BFV. I’m looking forward towards the scout weapon tier list. Hopefully you’ll make a gadget tier list.
What I wasnt expecting was a bf1 tierlist video that came out 4 days ago.
The next one is going to be rough, I think. But I hope my beloved 1895 Trench would be a separate case due to its difference among the peers. And oh boy it slaps for that difference
the transition that got slipped in there at 38:28 was smooth like butter
Trust me Lebel will be A tier for the sound alone. Nice video 👍
The FT is what you use to take out your anger on a steamrolling team
Damn, I've just returned into bf1 and watched the assault primary this morning and here you are with new great video! Keep it up man
11:13 the look back wondering why it didn’t explode killed me😂
Hahaha you noticed
33:26
The Lack of a Steal here when you're running repair tool Hurts my soul.
Can’t get P08 Artillerie clips in a tank.
The bully ost for the intro???? No way that’s fire
The Parabellum is goated in my eyes, great for CQC & clearing out trenches, but the quick overheating is indeed annoying
Love these! Glad to see your channel is doing so well!
Thanks!
Ah nice to see you in the comments here! Not gonna lie, that specific game was really close to bumping my rating up because I had such a good time.
Nice to hear you had fun, Battlefield is one of the few games where it isn't whoever is sweatiest wins, and I love that about this game
Can't wait for the Scout Review
38:06 had me chuckling and not paying attention to the rest of the video
I’ve seen everybody give the benet mercie f tier, glad to see a different opinion
I remember the Huot before they buffed it. Actually worthless, but still cool. Was glad to see it become usable.
Hell yeah! New vid to chill out and watch! Thanks for the entertainment bro!
: )
The Burton's big utility is hitting the Airship Behemoth with the incendiary rounds. Does lots of damage, a few guys with those can chip down an Airship's health quick!
_"-And with the recoil as predictable as the fate of the family dog in a horror movie..."_
Awww, mean. :(
But jokes and rambling aside, it's really been really awesome to see you grow so quickly: Both in terms of your channel and your video skills.
Thanks for your support as always!
I gotta be honest, you have the wildest playlist for background songs that I've ever seen in someone's video.
I think it especially stands out just because it's a BF1 video. Other channels just put a generic song or the BF1 ost playing in the background.
Might as well make the experience more interesting for all of us
Benet-Mercie my beloved, topfragged almost every game i played back when I played it on xbox and counter sniped the snipers, such a beautiful weapon.
34:45 woah what a cool black hole sun cover !
I think the Burton should be A tier. Is the only support weapon with a bayonett.
The Burton Trench actually performs pretty well in CQC, from my experience. It’s usually my go-to for when I need to play support REALLY aggressively.
@@GreyTide512 I agree, and the recoil is not that bad even with a high RPM. Its a better SMG with anti aircraft bullets, my favorite gun in the class.
While I don't agree with how you ranked some of the weapons I love the fact that you are still making content about this amazing game. Keep it up!
My opinions are just that, totally fine to disagree
