      Hey, Dave, just checking, do they have a touchscreen option? I actually really use a touchscreen on my laptops all the time so it's an absolute requirement. The biggest problem with this line and with Razer for a while is the lack thereof.

  • @peterc6559
    @peterc6559 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +950

    Asus finally understood what they had to do. Razer’s ONLY advantage was the sleek clean unibody macbook look. Glad to see them catch up. Now if Alienware can also start producing sleek subtle and clean gaming laptops then Razer will be in trouble

    • @Ghostrider-ul7xn
      @Ghostrider-ul7xn 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +70

      Yup, i often hear Razer users complain about quality issues due to battery and display. If other companies can make Macbook inspired laptops without any issues, they are going to overtake Razer, and possibly be the best all round laptop.

    • @manojpatra2840
      @manojpatra2840 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +28

      That's why Razer changed it's ways in 2023.
      Now a Razer Blade 16 is a full performance all decked out Intel 13900H and max 4090, it beats 3090Ti desktop.
      These asus machines are arguably way better in looks or battery life but they don't have anywhere close to that performance.
      However the asus G14 looks and probably will be way better than a Razer Blade 14.
      G16 cannot be compared though.

    They really needed to have made USB C charging work. Either with the more expensive power brick or a side by side dual USB C charging solution. If they are billing these as ultra-portable gaming machines, the ability to make them work over USB C is a must have.

    Loving the video, wanted to leave here a comment for support and appreciation of the fact that Dave2D gave us 2 videos in a row, thank you I had a pretty good evening watching them!
    Also wanted to give my opinion about these laptops: for me, the g14 was always small, so I would definitely go with the g16. Saidly that the processor is not the most powerful, I would give up on thickness and make it slightly bigger so that it will fit and cool down properly the laptop.
    About ergonomics and design, they are awesome! I had a 2021 zephyrus m16, that had the same ergonomics as the old g16 and g14, and it had a massive problem! The problem was in the feaking hot air that was blowing on the screen! I immediately from the box had a broken device that had cooling issues, and that blew up my screen matrix so hard that after a couple of months of use, it started flickering and blicking, and after a while that was the reason why I switched to the newest 2023 Razer Blade.
    About the screen of this g14 and g16, I am not sure, I am tired of seeing companies using some risky technology like OLED, saying "Oh, no worries, we did all to make sure it will never break". And then if you get a semi-broken device, that is at first not really noticeable, like I got with my old m16, the weakest part of it will definitely be in danger, and after your warranty expires, the OLED, that is the weakest, could just break.
    But overall these are pretty cool devices, if I had not bought myself a Razer Blade I would probably look at these guys, because they are so clean and powerful!

    The design looks really good, especially on the G14. A shame about the non upgradeable RAM though. It is also interesting that Asus switched from magnesium to aluminum. Some people have been reporting issues with the paint peeling off on the older models, so maybe that's part of the reason.

    I love that we are in the era of great looking gaming laptops now, words cannot describe how much i hate all those grills RGB lights and aggressive design. This is up there with Macbooks and the Blade for how clean they look! I had a '22 G14 6700s, the design and UX was amazing but the performance left a bit to be desired. Then last summer I switched to a TUF F15 with a 4070, and even though it looks quite a bit less attractive (though still surpassingly understated!) the performance is insane for the $999 I got it for ($400 off MSRP at the time, but now it's easy to find it for that price). These looks SO GOOD tho! Maybe 2026.

    I just received the (2024) G14 with 4060. It plays everything I have thrown at it at highest levels without problems. Awesome screen with super slim bezels, comfortable RGB keyboard, thin and light.... It has exceeded my expectations. Initially, I didn't think I would like the silver with white keyboard but it's actually quite elegant.

  • @SirCaco
    @SirCaco 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    I'm just trying to figure out why the 4050 and 4060 options still come with an unreasonably high resolution and refresh rate screen that they couldn't hope to run anything new on without reducing the internal resolution and making use of FSR/DLSS + frame generation software. Wouldn't it make more sense to reduce the resolution to 2K on those models?

    i actually miss the old design a lot. i get that it looks tacky, but i've always been a sci-fi guy and it looked cool, not to mention the anime matrix (granted you had to get one of the higher spec models which is insane). the new ones look clean-reminds me a lot of the macbook-but i personally want my gaming laptop to have a bit of gaming personality. some do overdo it (msi), but i thought the zephyrus was a nice medium.

    I still own the 2020 g14 with the 4900HS and I love this line of laptops. I'm shocked with the redesign however, it's odd to me they removed the airflow features that stuck out to me, like the unique hinge that pushed it off of the table and the side vents.

    • @HHalcyon
      @HHalcyon 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      I mean this should be the highlight of how much worse the new lineup is. I own a 2022 G14 and I definitely do not like the hinge change. That's downright criminal to make it by that much worse. The 4mm being shaved off instead of giving it more thermal headroom is also mental. I do not care for any of the specs if something so fundamental is made worse. G14 was already tiny at the expense of quite a lot of other things. Now it's smaller which means they compromised even more. Did the target audience change? 2024 is definitely not going to be my upgrade year - new G14 just sucks and it's not air.

    Yikes. This is a major step back for the G14. On the 2021 version that I currently use, one of the ram slots was swappable. It was also the last version of the Zephyrus G14 that had a print screen button. I really don't understand the purpose of replacing the Animatrix. That line just eliminates any option to customize. I keep good maintenance on my g14, clean fans regularly, and repaste the thermal paste, and it runs at max 85C on the cpu. It seems like it’s still easy to get into with these models, but damn, no ram upgrades. Hope this isn’t the start of the G14 loosing everything that made it unique and a solid MAC alternative that was upgradable and repairable.
