@@CrossedCoder that's not really how resolution works. A higher resolution means that there will be more pixels per inch on the screen, but that just means more detail, not more space. For example, the Windows icon on each screen in the taskbar is gonna be the same size, but the g14 one is going to be more detailed. You can choose to make the pixel-inch ratio the same in the settings, but every single group of pixels on the g14 will get smaller and harder to read.
Actually, @eshnd-1, that’s not quite right. A higher-resolution screen doesn’t just mean more detail - it also gives you the option for more usable space. If you lower the scaling in the settings, you can fit more on the screen because everything will be smaller and sharper. For example, the G14’s higher resolution allows you to see more content - like more of a webpage, document, or video timeline - compared to the G16. The higher PPI just means the smaller elements still look crisp and readable, instead of blurry. Also, Windows (or the laptop manufacturer) automatically adjusts scaling based on resolution and screen size. For a 3.5K display like the G14, it might default to 150%, while the G16’s 2.5K might use 125%. This ensures things aren’t too small to read, but it doesn’t mean they’re the same size - higher resolution still gives you more pixels to work with, so you have the flexibility to fit more content if you adjust the scaling down.
I haven't owned a personal laptop for a long time. Got the G14 4070 so i could put it in my backpack if it wanted. It's not replacing my desktop for gaming. Ultimate factor was cost, you can get a G14 plus a separate 4080 Super for the cost of a G16.
Just picked up last years G16 and having tried damn near everything its fantastic, the i7 and 4060 are plenty and it runs like a dream, and around 75c under load. My G14 was hot, my HP Omen Transcend with an i9 and 4070 I liked but it was literally louder than a car for almost any work you were doing and the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 14.5" was nice and loved that OLED Screen but I prefer this 16. This chassis is great, the touchpad is better than most Windows rigs, the keyboard is quiet, the screen is solid, the speakers are ok and performance is great. All at a price about half the price of the 2024s. I'll happily go to the new Zephyrus design when the time comes. For now I'm really enjoying it and I'm pickier than hell!
"Two, or even three years" 😂 I kept my last laptop for thirteen years. I expect closer to ten with my current Zephyrus M16. With the price of modern gaming laptops, I can't imagine writing off that cost in two years. I always remove stickers straight away. They just date your laptop.
I couldn't justify replacing a laptop that wasn't broken. Eventually what triggered the replacement was both the wired network port and the WiFi physical switch had stopped working, so no internet access. Sony make those things bullet proof. The urge was there to replace it, the budget wasn't. I had to save a lot for my current one, and I'll keep it a long time as the money isn't there to replace it frequently. It's also the reason I went for the M16. I expected the LCD screen to last longer than the OLED screen on other models.

I think that with these laptops its as follows. If you're debating between the two, you'll go for the G14 and live with the small setbacks from choosing the smaller one. You're getting the G16 if you prefer bigger laptops. I don't think there are many reasons to go for the G16 than getting a 4080/4090 model and the 16" screen.

@@poetic.voyage Exactly. Something important I realized when I saw them in person is that the pixels per inch on the G14 is way higher than the G16. The resolution is a little bit higher and the screen is smaller, so the density is higher. If your main work involves looking at text, like mine does, the extra ppi can make a big difference to readability and comfort.
How do these compare to m1 pro? I heard M chips unified ram and OS make working with multiple professional software open at the same time way faster. How does intel ultra compare to this
It doesn’t-the fastest mobile x86 processors are clunky compared to the latest apple silicon chips. Loud, terrible battery life, and now just as unupgradable as Mac’s you’re better off just building a pc or buying a Mac.
@@caydenpo1001 I understand that, but aren't the new intel core ultra chips WAY more efficient now? They seem like a good line up, just think the m1 pro would still be a great competitor and probably cheaper since it's older
@caydenpo1001 First of all, having the ability to replace the SSD is very valuable to me. After the battery, that's the next thing to go. That makes pretty much every modern Mac impossible for me to buy. Also, x86 isn't necessarily worse than RISC. There's a reason RISC isn't used for high performance desktops; it just doesn't scale well. AMD's desktop CPUs are a beast in that regard, and their U and HS series CPUs are still ahead of Intel's.

I think the laptops are nice but feel the price is not worth it as the CPUs even the Ultra Core 185 are way slower than last year's i9 ones. Is it correct according to several sources online? Just the AI component only (NPU). If you buy the old ones i9s with the RTX 4060-4090's the GPU itself is as fast as those with the NPUs? Anyone test that for LLM training?
Yes, Intel has a sideways upgrade this year as they move to their new architecture. The only upgrade is ARC graphics in the ultrabook line (laptops with no dGPU laptops).
One thing that he did not mention is that the G14 is 100% not compatible with an EGPU according to ASUS Chat and me trying to use a ADT-UT3G as well as a core X. I would have loved the portability of the G14 but be able to RIP it at home with a Desktop 4070 Super that doubles the FPS in a benchmark like Steel Nomad. But wont work. Another consideration for anyone involved in music production is notebookcheck scored the G14 much better than the G16 in terms of audio dpc latency. In fact, the G16 was not recommended for real time audio. I don't know if this is because of the AMD chip, but for this reason alone I will be going with the G14 4070 32GB.
I have both. The G16 fan never goes off and always runs hotter. Definitely worth noting. The G14 has louder speakers (I know, makes no sense) and has brighter keyboard lighting. If you don’t care about the bigger screen and want ultimate portability, go G14. I’m leaning towards the G16 because I’m a sucker for the bigger screen and 240hz, but the fan noise is tough.
I also have the G16 4070 and G14 4070 2024 model both here, but indeed the fans never go silent on the G16 and the G14 it does. Do you also have a different speaker quality on the right side (bottom speaker) of the G16, it sounds less clear then the left side, maybe the speaker is defect on the mine, don't know but the G14 speakers are fine on both sides.
OLED is great for gaming and media watching, but office staff and some pro users will need to go to extra lengths to hide the taskbar and top app menu; otherwise, they will suffer burn-in, as you say.

I like the G14 because i can get 32 GB of RAM while the G16 is another $700 to 800 (SHESH) for a configure with 32 GB of RAM also. Bigger screen don't matter too much because I do work with a monitor. Now, Yes if that's the case I could have got a desktop but I do want a computer that I can bring around easily and have battery power.
the 16" screen sized laptops are not that big these days, they evolved a lot.. I think the real deal breaker is the ram size specially that it is not upgradable.

The G16 has a lower ppi screen and lower resolution compared to the G14, so no, you would be able to see more on the G14 screen
The 4070 g14 is 1999 the 4080 g16 is 2699? a 4080 super is like 1k? so I'm not sure how that's possible.
@@tylerdimock Yeah. and besides, the GPU alone isnt any use. You wil have to buy the enclosure, and you will also need to buy a usb 4 cable.
"Two, or even three years"
😂
I kept my last laptop for thirteen years. I expect closer to ten with my current Zephyrus M16. With the price of modern gaming laptops, I can't imagine writing off that cost in two years.
I always remove stickers straight away. They just date your laptop.
I commend you for that. How do you not feel the urge to upgrade when there are substantial generational improvements? (every 4 years or so)
I couldn't justify replacing a laptop that wasn't broken.

What laptop do you have that it lasted that long!!??

A Sony VAIO from 2010.
It had a couple of new batteries in its life, and I upgraded it from a HDD to an SSD when I switch from Windows 7 to Windows 10. But that's it.
ty for this comparison matt,
i'd love to hear some thoughts about docking, so, if im spending upwards of 3k on a high-end laptop, yes I want it to feel premium and have nice display and all that, but spending that ammount of money I want that to be my main system, so that means it's probably gonna get docked ,
could you share some experiences on that end? like get a nice dock, and a nice monitor, and see how the laptop behaves when docked, (does gysync work while docked?) you know? stuff like that.
Keep up the good work sir!
GG!
I was hoping to be sold but they both sounded med. I know I shouldn't get my hopes up for the new over priced Razers but I'll wait for those reviews
Then once again they'll let you down. Except for the 14" tho. The price seems lower than last year
As a 2022 g14 user, I like the new design but I can wait like 2 more generations because the "upgrades" arent that attracting rn, but if someones buying it as their first gaming laptop or upgrade from a super old laptop, I would say they can wait for sale

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:13 *💼 The ASUS Zephyrus G14 is more portable and lighter, making it a better choice for those prioritizing mobility.*
00:25 *🚀 For higher-end GPU options (RTX 4080 or 4090), the G16 is the only choice; the G14 offers the RTX 4070 at a similar price point but with more RAM.*
01:06 *🧱 RAM is soldered onto the motherboard, making future upgrades impossible and making a higher initial RAM capacity (32GB) more desirable.*
02:00 *🔌 Port selection is mostly identical between models, with a notable difference in USB standards due to the processor type and the presence of a full-size SD card slot on the G16 versus a micro SD on the G14.*
03:36 *🎨 Color choice affects price differently for each model, with the white G16 costing $200 more and the white G14 being slightly cheaper than its black counterpart.*
04:16 *⌨️ The G16 offers more wrist room for typing, though the keyboard feel and travel distance are the same for both models.*
05:12 *🎵 Both laptops feature six speakers with impressive sound quality, adding value to the multimedia experience.*
05:54 *🖥️ The G16 has a larger and higher refresh rate display (240Hz) compared to the G14 (120Hz), making it more suitable for gaming.*
07:15 *💻 Performance comparison is complex due to different configurations, with the G16 model discussed having a more powerful GPU and CPU but similar RAM speeds.*
10:32 *🔧 Most components are soldered onto the motherboard, limiting repairability and upgrades, except for the Wi-Fi card.*
11:28 *🎮 The choice between the G14 and G16 depends on user needs, with the G16 being preferable for those prioritizing gaming and video creation on a larger display, and the G14 being more suited for frequent travelers seeking portability without sacrificing performance.*

they send the good versions off for reviews and then they offer Canadians lesser models. No M series this year. You truly never know what you’re gonna get with Zephyrus laptops every year, so it’s hard to say if it’s discontinued 🤣

Something important I realized when I saw them in person is that the pixels per inch on the G14 is way higher than the G16. The resolution is a little bit higher and the screen is smaller, so the density is higher.
@@cameronbosch1213 With the way PC laptops are headed it wouldn’t surprise me if you lose the ability to upgrade the SSD’s in the near future-very sad to watch the pc world evolve backward in that regard.

Yes, Intel has a sideways upgrade this year as they move to their new architecture. The only upgrade is ARC graphics in the ultrabook line (laptops with no dGPU laptops).

I have both. The G16 fan never goes off and always runs hotter. Definitely worth noting.
The G14 has louder speakers (I know, makes no sense) and has brighter keyboard lighting.

Any way to buy these in India?
As everywhere it's unavailable.
They haven't launched yet. The G16 has been unveiled, but hasn't gone on sale yet. It starts at 1.85 lakh, but sadly that is without the OLED screen which is quite disappointing in 2024. The G14 hasn't launched yet. Probably May.
You could look at the Omen Transcend 14 though
this may be a regional thing, but when i look up the G16 4070 i have 2 options either 16 or 32gb of ram
Me too bro for my g16 i have 32gb
@@bro_got_you which market are you in? Mine only shows 16gb :(
If I had money I would say to ASUS...can I have a 15 inch version in white without soldered RAM and SSDs? In orange please.
Hi Mat. Quick one. Which is best for CGI 3D rendering
Between
HP omen 16 2022 with ryzen 7 6800h & rx 6650m
And
Asus G14 2022 with Ryzen 9 6900hs & rx 6700s?
Stuck between making a decision, please help. Thanks
When are they going to do an amd g16
how is battery life with the previous gen? g14
Silent mode: 42db, is that a joke? Silent is 25db and below, like the MacBook Pro, basically you don’t hear the fan at all, that’s the definition of silent
Best buy only having the 16gb 4070 g16 hurts my soul
That is how they get the prices down for BestBuy.
Simply, G16 if you want better gaming experience, bigger screen, better cooling
How about G16 with AMD and 4080🫣
It existing?
