@@drsrsv8884 T50 really is astonishing, especially as it has a load of luggage space! Cosworth has worked a masterpiece with this engine. I'm hoping that the T50 finds it's way to Le Mans. I reckon it stands a good chance of winning (at least in its class). GM's CV would then become near enough unmatchable (if it isn't already).
It is my understanding the spindle threads are LH on one side of the car and RH on the other so the rotation of the wheels isn't in the same direction as unscrewing the nut.
Only right side. All center locks have to be threaded opposite of the primary rotational direction. Look at F1, they are colour coded as well to avoid mix up.
T50 has the same, well it would have, they're made by Gordon Murray, this also has a Cosworth V12, which revs to a crazy 12,100rpm, it sounds amazing 💥

Right! I assume they only did that because they were going to polish anyway so even if they introduced a couple more swirls first it won't be a big deal.
Do you have your own detailing staff do it? And does the camera crew follow them around while using the detailing chemicals you helped develop? Sorry but this video serves heavily to sell the cleaning products.
@@dk2614Nothing about this serves to better sell products, though. The video would have been exactly the same if they had said "we already washed the car, so now we're going to polish it." The same exact products would be used.
Don't know, but I would've expected at least a pre-wash. Then a wash and a clay bar would've been par for the course, especially on a car like that. Just because it's taken care of and you can't see stuff embedded in the paint, it doesn't mean it's not there, but hey what do I know, I'm not a detailer. Seems counterintuitive though... Very much so ! Also, does that torque wrench double as a breaker bar ?
Well they obviously deep cleaned it before the first polish they just didn't want to have wax and all kind of chemicals on the paint from 'washing' it. He just didn't do a great job explaining it.
Jay Leno. I appreciate you so much. I would love to spend a day with you talking cars, particularly Porsche, and having a few drinks. You’re a really solid guy.
So heartwarming to see such a genuine car enthusiast as JL. He clearly collects cars due to a healthy obsession with vehicles and moreover his love of driving. The monetary benefits from owning such a collection appear a secondary consideration him. One of the great Petrolheads of our time.
*O'Reilly Auto Parts* has Jay's line of car care products. If you do not see them on the shelf, ask a counterperson. They are readily available from their distribution center. I use mostly the Tire Shine and Interior detailer. Absolutely amazing results with all of them.

We need more people like Jay in the enthusiast world. He has the money to buy and maintain some of the most precious cars ever made, and the guts and the love for the cars to actually drive them so normal people can enjoy them. I hate to see cars bought at auction and then disappear into someone's garage to accrue value, never to see daylight until they're sold again. It's hard for me to describe but for me, a car that just sits in the garage and isn't used has no value. It may have monetary value, sure, but if you're so afraid to drive it because you may get a scratch...like I said it's hard for me to describe. Jay is the quintessential automotive enthusiast, and I wish everyone who collected rare cars was like him.
They have absolutely no idea what they’re doing. I cannot believe what I just watched. Walking around with a belt and jeans on while detailing a 20 million dollar car with original black paint.
What is Jay's favorite car ever? The one where he talks it up to the Nervous detailers... These guys know their stuff and I'm sure have worked for Jay but his love for the F1 and sharing it with every one of us just can't be contained. Thanks Jay and nice work guys.

The idea was to provide all the relevant tools so a McLaren tech could be flown to the location of the car and have everything they needed. This went beyond general servicing, with even some larger jobs like removing the engine being possible with the tools provided, as long as there was a lift available.
@@krusher74 As far as I know some owners who buy this car have also racing version of it. Mechanics who works for them. Thats nothing special. Remember that if you live in USA back in the day after 2000, when they were legal, you had to jack up the car to repair anything from underneath. Back then, the owners of this car were even richer than Jay Leno. I guarantee you that they had one lift, because they also had 20 other cars of this type in their collection. They preffered this to a ship car to Woking by sea or air. When it was possible to send just the part to USA and an MSO mechanic would come and fix it on site in the owner's large garage.
Do not wipe your car down with quick detailer and then polish. Jay said use alcohol and he was right. 70% Isopropyl alcohol diluted 3:1 with water. Then polish, and only if you already have a clean car to start with. I'm kind of amazed this car doesn't have PPF installed.
Maybe I’m not as knowledgeable as I think I am, but shouldn’t you do a basic wash first, dry thoroughly, claybar, then another light wash down, THEN polish and buff? Also, the wheels against that metal siding made me uneasy. I don’t care how light you are with your hands, it can still damage the wheel. Overall nice video, but while I’m not detailing expert, some steps felt weird and just a push of the product rather than a proper detail.
The most impressive part about this video is knowing that Jay Leno actually DRIVES and properly ENJOYS his $20 million+ cars. I believe that's why so many of us give him SO much props, and he can easily be dubbed one of the most respected car enthusiasts of all time. Hats off to you, Mr. Leno! 🫡

former pro detailer. i would always do 2-3 washes for a paint correction. would never use a cleaning detailer product unless i didn't have access to a hose. first step is hose down thoroughly, then wash, then paint correct, then wash again, then polish and seal or ceramic coat. these guys seem to be skipping a step in order to promote the detailing products.
More then 1 way to skin a cat. I'm sure them know what they are doing or jay wouldn't let them do his car. Some people [you] always think they know everything.
@@atg1338 that was a smug remark. i merely pointed out that they are taking shortcuts on a $25 million dollar car in order to promote their product. no need to cry about it.
@@atg1338 Its pretty logical. Wash to get rid of any dirt/dust, then correct/polish, then wash again. Why would you want dust or dirt in the paint when polishing? Makes no sense.
For anyone not starting with a car driven in California / parked inside what is essentially a warehouse museum you would use the flowing sequence: Snow foam, Rinse, Hand Wash with microfiber, then use an electric leafblower to dry, finally polish.

I truly like this man and admire his overall knowledge base on a vast number of rare and exclusive automobiles.I found this video to be nothing more than an info-mercial promoting his namesake detailing products. How much money does the Jay Leno war-chest need to float his never ending collection of motor vehicles?? Hard to fathom his insatiable appetite for vehicle acquisition. When is enough enough? Only Jay can answer that question ..

As a detailer who's worked on some of the craziest Arabian cars on the planet, here's a pro tip for cleaning glass and getting rid of the cloudy stuff: Go and get some simple isopropyl alcohol. You can generally find a spray bottle from your local pharmacy. Just make sure the ingredients are no more than two items: Isopropyl alcohol content (70% or higher) and aqua (water). Some of the products in pharmacies might have things like moisturizers in them. Make sure you're getting something that's just isopropyl and water. Note, if you're going to do your own mix, then be very careful of the water you use. Tap water or filtered water might leave spots or white marks. Distilled water works better. Get a clean microfiber and use the isopropyl mix to clean up the glass. It works great. I generally do not apply any kind of glass cleaner afterwards, but I might apply a bit of sealant or nano-coating on the outside that doesn't let water stick, but that's not needed. This works on ALL glass surfaces. You can also use the same isopropyl to get rid of stubborn marks, adhesive residue, and general cleaning before polishing. It also is a great way to get some of the modern touch screen and giant dashboard displays super clean without any kind of residue left over.

I had no idea Maclaren used reverse threads on the wheel nuts. Stunning car that looks just as modern now as it did 20+ years ago.
It is my understanding the spindle threads are LH on one side of the car and RH on the other so the rotation of the wheels isn't in the same direction as unscrewing the nut.
@@avsystem3142 I realized that as soon as I read your post. Good call.
Chrysler products back in the sixties used right hand thread on one side and left hand thread on the other.
No idea why.
@@colehara Yup. My first car was a '63 Plymouth Belvedere with left hand threads on the wheel studs.
Only right side. All center locks have to be threaded opposite of the primary rotational direction.
Look at F1, they are colour coded as well to avoid mix up.
The best thing about the F1, in my opinion, is the centered steering wheel. I adore it!
Center seating position is genius. I wish more auto marques would do this.
@@drsrsv8884 McLaren Speedtail also have this setup
T50 has the same, well it would have, they're made by Gordon Murray, this also has a Cosworth V12, which revs to a crazy 12,100rpm, it sounds amazing 💥
Love to see that OG Pressure Washer setup Jay! Let me know if you need anything to improve the detailing experience out there.
I'm genuinely excited to see this. One of the most beautiful and groundbreaking machines being cared for as Jay cares for all his outstanding vehicles...
Jay having car products you know that we are going to use those.. The car's awesome
I think you should do a new really IN-DEPTH episode of The F1. It is THE CAR.
Thanks Jay!
Doug Demuro did an in depth review of Jay Leno's Mclaren F1
I thought Jay had at least one more on this one? I remember seeing it before on here.
Facts we need a recent one
@Druid again with the same comment for the 85th time. 🙄
A fantastic ad for Quick Jacks. Good enough for Jay Leno's $20 million McLaren F1, good enough for your Honda.
All that product placement wasn't a mistake or by chance... I'm SURE that was on purpose... I bought a set a while back and made a very detailed setup video of mine as well... I love working with them.
I imagine that’s why he had these absolutely random people come and didn’t take it to a specialist shop with proper lighting and equipment. Imagine letting Donny from Queens take a random orbital pad to your 20 million dollar McLaren F1.
@@protectandswerve Yeah totally. It is a great ad.
@@conor7154 Not thoroughly washing the car before polishing was an absolutely wild decision. Yikes.
@@Dr.TJ_Eckleburgyou realize it’s an edited video right? It’s not real time. The car was likely already mostly clean with just some light dust on it. I’m sure those guys wash every car shortly after each occasion it gets driven.
As a kid, this was the pinnacle of cars in my mind. As a 43 year old many years later, my opinion hasn’t changed.
I like Jay, he's not a snob and drives all his cars. Thanks Jay , best of luck and thanks for the channel.
I love washing and detailing my car, but this is on a whole new level 🎉. Nice job 👍🏻
The excitement of that guy peeking the engine bay at 15:34 is contagious. I feel you man.
There are few things that cause me to hold my breath when I'm watching them: sudden death overtime games; psychological thriller/horror movies; and someone detailing a $20 million McLaren F1.
I respect Jay so much for actually putting miles on his cars! Enjoying them, appreciating them, and caring for them because he actually loves them!
The care and attention taken reminds me of myself cleaning my first car a second hand Vauxhall chevette 1.6 in canary yellow
One Can only dream....
Very Nice❤
Thanks for sharing.👍🏻
Only Jay Leno could afford to have Chris Farley polish his car.
was looking for this... He's Alive.
Reminds me of TOMMY BOY! 😂
And isn't the other one of the sons from Pawn Stars?
“Thats was awesome!”
That McLaren F1 is one piece of ace. I know from experience dude.
GREAT idea to plug in Jay's product line, on one of the rarest coolest cars ever. Whoever runs this channel is very smart 🙂
Keep the videos of the Holy Grail coming! Can never get enough of those!
Thanks for the Simple Green tip Jay. I know exactly what you're talking about with that film that I can never seem to get rid of.
Wiping before washing, I don't do that to my 20k$ car.
Right! I assume they only did that because they were going to polish anyway so even if they introduced a couple more swirls first it won't be a big deal.
@@DaveSimkus but there is limit of polishing, so doing it like this on 20m car is weird
Do you have your own detailing staff do it? And does the camera crew follow them around while using the detailing chemicals you helped develop? Sorry but this video serves heavily to sell the cleaning products.
I'm assuming the car was washed recently and only needed a wipe down to clean recent dust.
It's original 25 year old paint. They probably don't want extra abrasives with clay and it might not even need it.
"polish, then wash a car" said no professional car detailer, ever. 🤣
Some do. Did make me laugh when he “wiped it down” hopefully they had washed it first.
Maybe not for this car, but that's such a bad idea on so many levels I don't know where to begin.

Wishing you, family and crew a fabulous Easter.
This was a very informative video as usual.
Maungaturoto New Zealand.
*O'Reilly Auto Parts* has Jay's line of car care products. If you do not see them on the shelf, ask a counterperson. They are readily available from their distribution center. I use mostly the Tire Shine and Interior detailer. Absolutely amazing results with all of them.
Somewhere along the line "washing" or "cleaning" became "detailing". So, I can say, "I am detailing my bathroom". 😀😀😀
Yeah I always thought detailing was like fixing chipped paint or small cosmetic damage - not just washing the car lol
This is a testament to the efficacy of your car care products, Jay. Best seventeen minute advertisement I've ever watched, I think... #BetterThanAnInfomercial
Jay you look lean and mean , new diet? What a beautiful machine wax me often Black !
My wife asked me what I was watching. It was easier to say, "Some blokes washing a car." She doesn't understand.
I can't believe they didn't wash and fully decontaminate the paint first omg 😮.Amazing car
I bet it is always just kept washed, so no need for that.
The car has been kept inside and probably hasn't seen weather in a decade.
Nobody said they didnt. They said they wash it afterwards, which is something most people wouldnt think of.
They have absolutely no idea what they’re doing. I cannot believe what I just watched. Walking around with a belt and jeans on while detailing a 20 million dollar car with original black paint.
@@GaniscolWouldn’t think of because that’s not what people do. This is insanely unprofessional.
I have so much fondness, and respect for Jay. He is a funny, and amazing dude!
The fact Jay uses that car is just next level gearhead. Love it.
I can not believe these guys do not know how to use the quick jacks... i cant believe Jay let them near the car...
Absolute cowboys. The jacks didn't even look locked out. Even if they were, who went under the car to adjust the lockout? Crazy.
I had the exact same reaction. Leaving the car suspended only by the hydraulic pressure is a no no. Gotta set it on the locks!
I was thinking the same. Yikes.
Great video and instructional video on how to detail a car, I didn't even know that they made such a small orbital polisher to do mirrors.
Do yourself a favor and watch almost any other detailer than these two unless you actually want swirl marks or micro abrasions in your paint.

Jay, you deserve all the accolades written and unwritten. You are a national treasure. In addition, my prayers go out to your wife and you. May God bless you both always!
That’s one hell of a tool kit McLaren gives..that torque wrench alone, holy mackerel
The idea was to provide all the relevant tools so a McLaren tech could be flown to the location of the car and have everything they needed. This went beyond general servicing, with even some larger jobs like removing the engine being possible with the tools provided, as long as there was a lift available.
@@Peloton25 I think almost 3/4 owners back in the day (93-98) have some lift equipment available.
@@SuperSedans did you pull that stat right out of your arse?
@@Peloton25 Hey Peleton25 great to see you here
Do not wipe your car down with quick detailer and then polish.
Overall nice video, but while I’m not detailing expert, some steps felt weird and just a push of the product rather than a proper detail.
you're definitely more knowledgeable than those guys lol
It was probably already washed after Jay's last drive. It just had a fine layer of dust from the garage.
It was museum grade before they even touched it. It probably gets licked with tongues daily.
Leno! 🫡
Hi Jay. I'm watching your vidéo from France. I appreciate your knowledge. You are an international treasure ! And you re such an example with your crew.
Good lord. If Jim @ White Details (One of the best detailers in the world) watches this, im sure he would have a nervous twitch. I wouldnt let these guys near my car, let alone a F1. No claybar and decontamination. And using tons of compound. Ive never seen anyone use that much before.
I would not let them even wash my wifes twenty year old grocery getter. They are horrible. Not even a grasp of the very basics of washing a car. They should never ever try paint correction.
In my opinion Jim @ white details is the best detailer I’ve seen on YT.
@@Dae7585 Hes known as one of the best in the world. He has cars flown in to the UK from Dubai just to be detailed !. I have never seen anyone do what he can do, its incredible. My car instantly won Best of Show for 2 shows that i took it too and gets admired everywhere. So i thank Jim for displaying his skills.
I shuddered in the first few minutes. Was the goal to rub contaminates into the paint? Not to mention, I don’t think they even locked the jacks.
So you wanna tear up 25 year old original paint on a 20mil car even more with extra abrasives? You don't always need to clay the surface, it's not always necessary. But you know more than everyone because you watch a youtube channel lmao.
Also no, Larry with Ammo NYC is a ton more respected by actual detailers. He was chosen by Koenigsegg to detail the Jesko before it was unveiled at the auto show.
former pro detailer. i would always do 2-3 washes for a paint correction. would never use a cleaning detailer product unless i didn't have access to a hose. first step is hose down thoroughly, then wash, then paint correct, then wash again, then polish and seal or ceramic coat. these guys seem to be skipping a step in order to promote the detailing products.
@@magi115 Oh Mr. Know it all tell me how do they put air in the tires🤔
@@atg1338 you are still crying. it's not that serious. 😁

I like when Jay jokingly tell the 2 dudes…. Don’t forget you are cleaning a 20 mil car so be careful 😂😂😂
For anyone not starting with a car driven in California / parked inside what is essentially a warehouse museum you would use the flowing sequence: Snow foam, Rinse, Hand Wash with microfiber, then use an electric leafblower to dry, finally polish.
Love that car and so glad he drives it and it's not just tucked away in a garage where people can never see it.

Well, I was 7 minutes in but really had a scream of this-is-NOT-how-to-do-it... Good lord. Before you start any cleaning process... clean well with soapy water and then wash all off with lots of water. Then wipe her dry with a very soft dust free cloth. Then use a product to remove any remaining contaminants or particles on the surface... Are these guys just pushing products, or are they actually doing a proper process... 😲
I don’t want to say anything bad about these guys but geezzz!!
Low paid actors at best, not detailers
I truly like this man and admire his overall knowledge base on a vast number of rare and exclusive automobiles.I found this video to be nothing more than an info-mercial promoting his namesake detailing products. How much money does the Jay Leno war-chest need to float his never ending collection of motor vehicles?? Ya, ya its his hard ‘earned’ money for traveling tirelessly on the comedy circuit to fund the overhead & maintenance expenses related to such a massive collection. Hard to fathom his insatiable appetite for vehicle acquisition. When is enough enough? Only Jay can answer that question ..
Love the video and anytime we get to see Mr. Leno and his amazing F1 it always scores a 50 out of 5 or a 100 out of 10. This car should have its own channel along with maybe the REV Institutes gorgeous green McLaren F1.
Remove tackiness from tape 5 sec later he installs tape directly to the vents !!! Ok……
He might have done it but they might not have shown it. He is getting clowned on a lot in the comments but I doubt he would have made that tip and not done it himself (even if it didn't make the edit).
The vents are powder coated, not painted. You won’t damage that with blue tape.
$20 million car and they're cutting corners there not washing the car before polishing it. Are you kidding me?😢
There? Are you kidding me?
I mean how dirty could it actually be? When we had cars come in that wasn't dirty, we'd just liquid wax it. Early 2000s
Shut up and go buy an F1.
Hence the pre detailing spray. No need to if it’s garage kept and they use the detailing spray.

As a detailer who's worked on some of the craziest Arabian cars on the planet, here's a pro tip for cleaning glass and getting rid of the cloudy stuff:
Go and get some simple isopropyl alcohol.
