I love how replicas can become 100% signature of its owner. For me the Ultima GTR Is the best kit-car toy to play with. Time to time there are older ones or empty bodywork shells on chassis auctioned which Is plausible way getting one for reasonable money And begin doing engineering magics...

I am the proud owner of a speedster clinic 356 recreation! It is based on a 1970 beetle and as far as I’m concerned is drop dead gorgeous and it gets a lot of attention. I part exchange my 911 996 for it about 10 years ago and whilst the price of the 996 has stood pretty still my speedster has doubled in value. I agree that some cars lend themselves to being homaged and I tend to think they are more often than not older Classics such as the cobra, and not modern supercars. That said this Lamborghini replica certainly seems to hit the spot. I also currently run a V6 F type and a 916 twin Spark spider. Keep up the good work, I always enjoy your videos..
I need a t-shirt with a screengrab of that dodgy driver, captioned "Take the racing line, Margaret". Absolute channel highlight right there. Oh, the car is cool as well. 😂
22:11 i’m really glad that in this review, you included a photo of the replica side-by-side with the real one. I think the most obvious difference is the paint. The real one has a pearly paint that would be more expensive to get and it’s easier to see that that paint job has more character. The real one also has more curer machine angles than the replica. It’s a very close replica and considering how old the mercy LEGO is compared to the Aventador and the newer models which have gone bizarre with permutations personally I don’t see a problem, driving the replica at all. As long as the majority of your exterior parts have come from the real OEM manufacturer, if it works-it works.
I personally believe that it doesn’t matter if it’s a fake. To be able to own and even drive the real deal is near impossible so to get this close in ownership is special. Live it my dude! 😊
yeah, shockingly and impressively close to the real thing. only thing is it does not rev as high so when it sounds like it's only just getting on song you have to shift. none the less i really hope you could make an 8 series sound like this, lambo noises on a budget!
I’m impressed by the sound. He really did a good job on that at least as far as the rumbling and acceleration go. The at-speed giveaway is the glacial gear changes due to the transmission’s unsorted behavior. But this one is good enough that even a car guy like me might not give it a second look for its authenticity. Particularly if I hear a V12.
Oddly a few years back I bought a Volvo V70 on eBay Travelled by train to the south coast (won’t say where) Picked up by the seller in the Volvo and drove up the hill to his house The garage doors were open and I spied a Cobra Ah, you’re into replicas, how long did it take to build? No idea, he replied, it’s a genuine one! I was astounded he left the garage doors open but as he said, all genuine Cobras are know so what do you do with a stolen one? Interestingly he DID have a replica which he raced in the classic cars season..!
I too once travelled to the south coast by train to buy a Volvo V70. Unfortunately it was from a dealer and the most interesting thing he had apart from the Volvo was a Jag XKR.
Probably got his bits removed and it's now on a Q plate (no more fancy reg numbers). Looks like it was wearing a ringing kit off a real one rather than having an IVA.
There's/was a guy in Poland who builds replicas of McLaren F1. First two were sort of excercises not even far close to its original but third one was very persuading already. If finished with some advanced experts this replica has big potential be as close as this 90% Lambo....
I know of a real Mk1 GT40 road car down here in Victoria, Australia and the guy who owns it has two replicas too... He has a CAV MK1 GT+ restomod, and a Superformance Mk2 in period competition spec. He drives the CAV most, but he does take the real one out pretty regularly and although all the GT40s get heaps of attention... It's actually the real one that gets the least attention. He says very, very few people ever ask him if it's a real Ford Advanced Vehicles built car, but the few who do recognise it and already know which car it is. Everyone else assumes it's a relatively lowish quality kit compared to the new ones 😂 My favourite is the CAV, I love it so much I'm having one built of my own. I will use it all the time.
I once looked at a Ferrari 308 frame and was surprised at the rough appearance of the welds. I would have been angry if my kit car had been done the same way. My 1960s and 70s Corvette frames looked pretty bad too.
@@briandeaton3550 Take a look at Harry Metcalfe's Countach under repair at Iain Tyrell's garage a couple of years ago. I've seen better welded tubing after the first might of a GCSE engineering course night school session.
Quite agree that the originals are pretty poorly put together. We had several at the 40th anniversary at Slough this April together with several replicas. As the originals are glass fibre with Ford 289 V8’s the only key distinguishing factor is the monocoque bs space frame, but the Superformance and Gelscoe reps have monocoques too. Hard to tell 👍
One sure way to fail the MOT here in Finland would be the... welding... of the brake pedal. In such, let's say, obvious way it looks. But that aside, I have exactly the same problem with my -82 Ford Taunus (Cortina 5); then I replaced the 2.0 with Ford 5L, 302, I made an adapter plate to mate the Mustang bellhousing to the Ford T 9, and being 10 mm thick, it caused less contact with the clutch plate splines. Not failed yet ,though, but I am now replacing the disc with larger old Ford Ranger disc (the Sierra disc is a bit small and sometimes slips that may have saved it...), so we shall see if that is even worse...
Did you see my solution? Another clutch centre (I found a modular clutch from Tenaci motorsport in Sweden) which I got Tig welded (by a professional 😂). Luckily there was plenty of clearance (30mm) for the release bearing. And for reference, the brake pedal wasn’t me. Welding is something I’m yet to try! The pedal is on the list to sort asap!
You have to appreciate the car owners of these replicas, sure they aren't the real deal, but they were made with love, and not fairly mass produced by a massive conglomerate.
I've always fancied a lamborghini replica for a long time, but as time passed I chickened out of the process and went a different route, . I do take my hat of to anyone brave enough to go through the process, but as long as they like it that's fine by me! Well done and enjoy your tinkering 😊
Really interesting video Jay, thank you for making it. For me personally? There's no way i'd have any replica over a tidy e46 M3. I really struggle with replicas, but do concede regarding the Cobra / GT40 point you raise.
I appreciate the effort but also wonder why someone so skillful couldn't have just created a one-off design on the same platform, rather than a replica
Because I think replicating a masterpiece is art in itself. Many singers can sing a cover of hit songs but they rarely come up with their original songs, do they?
Also I suppose people are happy to drive Nobles, Ginettas, TVRs etc which are also basically cars built in a blokes shed. And people love them, so maybe we need to just consider this as a really cool looking car that drives well but also happens to have a Lambo badge stuck on. Because if Noble came out with this car it'd been worth £200k.
@@fullyplantd The difference is that the manufacturers you've mentioned have built up their reputation over decades, whereas kit cars can be built by anyone. You're saying that Noble would release a car in this state and charge 200k for it? Did you even watch the video? The car has a ton wrong with it... look at the brake pedal at 8:15 for a start!
That feeling of thinking you’re about to be overtaken by a car behind you when it’s the reflection from on coming traffic is a design flaw on the S1 Elise. I can tell you, driving at night was the most confusing thing ever until Lotus offered a replacement rear screen that cants the glass at an angle but which has the unexpected effect of making you think that the high beam blue light from the clock is a rozzer coming from behind😂😂😂
I used to have a spce framed countach replica. Was totally spot on; even donw to the pedal rubbers. I even had curved door glass....only give away, was the chevrolet v8 on there rear. Even the rocker covers were lamborghini written.
hi great video as usual, if you find the front brake caliper bleed nipples are on the bottom it may be that they are fitted to the wrong side. Mat should try swapping them over from one side to the other.
Front calipers are fine, rears have an integral parking brake with bleed nipples only on the “top”. The handbrake part clashes with the rear shocks unless mounted upside down 🤦♂️. Something I’m going to sort. I already have some new calipers front and rear and a dedicated handbrake caliper for the rear. That’s on “The List”!
They're seriously good if you're a not a car nerd. I'm a nerd and several times I've seen them on the road and it's taken me a while to realise it wasn't a 355.
I think it's great that the owner has made something which so resembles his dream car. Truth is, at least fifty per cent of the alleged car buffs who knock replicas of this kind, if they stood on a street and the replica and a real Murcielago were driven past them, wouldn't be able to reliably pick out one from the other. If while I'm walking the dog tomorrow this fake Lamborghini drove past me, I'd not know the difference. If I had chance to walk around and examine it closely, then maybe I'd think the interior didn't look quite fancy enough to be a real one, but on its own, without the real thing for comparison, I doubt I'd feel totally sure. Good luck to him with his continued improvements, I expect it'll keep getting better, which is something only a small percentage of cars do.
It’s a cool project. Nothing wrong with replicas, as long as you’re not trying to scam anybody. Give this guy another 10 years to tweak and change things, and it’ll be better than a real one.
A couple exceptions. The Super-performance GT-40 actually gets a Ford GT vin number and 80 % of the parts fit a real one. Since they’re not made anymore this is as close as you can get plus if you find a real one they’re astronomical in price. I don’t think others come that close to being real. I’m dying to build one
I can entirely respect a car like this, which is done reasonably well, and in my opinion more importantly, an owner who doesnt pretend that the car is something its not.
I think builders like Ferrari and Lamborghini are concerned that these counterfeit cars don't fair as well in an accident and that on-lookers would judge the outcome as being poorly made. Apart from the seat belt almost cutting you off at the neck it's a pretty good attempt, oh and that little wisp of blue smoke is another thing to put on the list. Good vid JayEmm

100% agree. The biggest tragedy in the automotive world is that many of the greatest cars ever made will sit stationary and hidden away forever. 😢
@Mmhmmyeahok no there not driven so they don't break and depreciate with milage camrys are super boring a good transportation box.
@@Mmhmmyeahok So, by that logic, if I offered you 2 keys, 1 to a Camry, and 1 to a Chiron supersport, you would take the Camry?
@@Mmhmmyeahok Fair enough, I'd probably do the same thing to be honest. Personally, I'm not even much of a fan of Bugatti but that was just an example. I get the point you are making. Perhaps "Great" wasn't the word I should've used. Many people's dream cars end up sitting stationary and hidden away. No one is dreaming of owning a Camry, but a Ferrari, an Aston Martin, or in this case, a Lambo, those are cars people would kill just to get to drive once, let alone own.
Its the exact design dimensions as the murcielago from Need for speed hot pursuit 2. 😂
Wicked game!
I would put a liberty walk kit on it .. some of the issues that make it look unlike the Murci would have be fixed .
I love how replicas can become 100% signature of its owner.
For me the Ultima GTR Is the best kit-car toy to play with. Time to time there are older ones or empty bodywork shells on chassis auctioned which Is plausible way getting one for reasonable money And begin doing engineering magics...
The fact that there's actually a V12 in this, not a V6 or V8, coupled with a decent exhaust, really impresses me about this car.
I'm hugely impressed how close it's to the original and if Mat keeps improving this project then its future top form might reach 99% 👏
Massive respect for going through this much effort. A labour of love that will get better with age (and tinkering)
Sounds fantastic, but I did notice that at high revs, off throttle, some oil is getting past the valve seals. I am going to say id be perfectly happy with it. Especially for such a reduced price.
I like to think some where out there is a MR2 Replica, that's actually a Countach underneath
😅
The BMW V12 is used in the McLaren F1 road car, so it's all good,
I personally believe that it doesn’t matter if it’s a fake. To be able to own and even drive the real deal is near impossible so to get this close in ownership is special. Live it my dude! 😊
The thing I'm most impressed by, is that he made an M70 sound good :-) I'd like to see what kind of setup it has.
yeah, shockingly and impressively close to the real thing. only thing is it does not rev as high so when it sounds like it's only just getting on song you have to shift. none the less i really hope you could make an 8 series sound like this, lambo noises on a budget!
Me to, it sounds amazing 😍
Probably equal length headers 👍
I'm doing 6-2-1 headers on my m120 V12 build 😎
I’m impressed by the sound. He really did a good job on that at least as far as the rumbling and acceleration go. The at-speed giveaway is the glacial gear changes due to the transmission’s unsorted behavior. But this one is good enough that even a car guy like me might not give it a second look for its authenticity. Particularly if I hear a V12.
Oddly a few years back I bought a Volvo V70 on eBay
Travelled by train to the south coast (won’t say where)
Picked up by the seller in the Volvo and drove up the hill to his house
The garage doors were open and I spied a Cobra
Ah, you’re into replicas, how long did it take to build?
No idea, he replied, it’s a genuine one!
I was astounded he left the garage doors open but as he said, all genuine Cobras are know so what do you do with a stolen one?
Interestingly he DID have a replica which he raced in the classic cars season..!
Would still, get stolen and end up in a unscrupulous garage in some stan
I too once travelled to the south coast by train to buy a Volvo V70. Unfortunately it was from a dealer and the most interesting thing he had apart from the Volvo was a Jag XKR.
How could you not love this?
Reps are for losers.
I won't answer that 😊
What’s the story of the reg no , not currently in use and showing previously used on a real Lamborghini?
I looked it up, too. Doesn't inspire confidence!
The thing about most replicas is that they will only ever be YOUR car, they will never truly belong to anyone else.
Everyone else assumes it's a relatively lowish quality kit compared to the new ones 😂
My favourite is the CAV, I love it so much I'm having one built of my own.
BMW left money on the table by not coming out with a car that sounds like that!
Anything that makes that noise deserves forgiveness whatever it's sins.
When a replica has a V12 it gets my approval 😍 fantastic
You have to appreciate the car owners of these replicas, sure they aren't the real deal, but they were made with love, and not fairly mass produced by a massive conglomerate.
It's nice but remove the Lambo badges
This, I like. Thank you for bringing us this car James, it looks really nice and very close to the OG.
I've always fancied a lamborghini replica for a long time, but as time passed I chickened out of the process and went a different route, . I do take my hat of to anyone brave enough to go through the process, but as long as they like it that's fine by me! Well done and enjoy your tinkering 😊
"Take the racing line, Margaret" 😂😂😂
Why doesn't that fella who you borrowed the car off buy a high mileage real Murci with e-gear and then convert it to a manual himself!
I'm sure most agree we wouldn't have had a clue it was not real. Well done Matt got yourself a very interesting tinker toy there I love it.
Yeah I get that, but Why build a Murciélago in a shed? Kit cars could be made to look unique instead of lookalikes of something they're not.
The thing is Nobles aren't pretending to be something they're not.
What an asinine comparison. 😂
There was a Diablo with a bmw V12 that sold for 150k on bring a trailer , I’d rather have that then a real one
What gearbox You had?
Love the flame popping from the exhaust. Lot to like...!
90s MR2 power steering is an electric hydraulic system and has excellent feedback. Put in a 3rd gen ratio into that rack and it's very precise.
This is the equivalent of sitting opposite an Italian and cutting spaghetti with a knife and fork 😅
@@D1ARBO then putting ice in the wine
Or putting pineapple on a pizza 🤦♂️
hi great video as usual, if you find the front brake caliper bleed nipples are on the bottom it may be that they are fitted to the wrong side.
Looks pretty darn good from the outside, sounds good. Throw a turbo or two on it, now we are talking LOL.
Great honest review, nicely done 👍
If you can't afford one, build your own.
Gotta admire that.
100% 👍
Matt did an excellent job of replicating the exhaust note! 👍🏻
I’ve seen an MR2 copy of the 355. Hilariously misproportioned.
If you were 17 it would be cool.. that's it
@@Saltybuher used to be loads of the around in the early 2000's, I remember they had to run hilariously large spacers on the back wheels
They're seriously good if you're a not a car nerd. I'm a nerd and several times I've seen them on the road and it's taken me a while to realise it wasn't a 355.
Saw some blue 💙 smoke (10:12) 💨 coming out the tail pipes a little on it. Hmmm 🤔 Saw some fire shoot out at 12:52. 👍💪💯❤️👍
Looks more like a Lotus. I think the Countach replica you showed looks a lot better proportioned.
I don't really mind things like this, it's different and rather hilarious
When was this shot dude? I just watched your Ferrari video and you looked completely different....
That was Chris Harris.
@@l228spn lol
His Ferrari video was pretty recent, this was from the summer from the looks of the scenery
Long enough the V12RME is no longer on it.
Yes, there are a few comedy "Son of Frankenstein" kit cars, but there are many decent ones. Respect to the owner of this car.
These cars are such a rare sight no common folks will even realize it´s a replica. Looks and sounds the part. Fun stuff!
If he took it to Italy it might end up going the way of a certain Miura exiting a tunnel .
Not my cuppa but good on ya Matt.
Great video James, really enjoyed this one
Looks very good and sounds amazing!
Sounds awesome V12 💪
It’s a cool project. Nothing wrong with replicas, as long as you’re not trying to scam anybody. Give this guy another 10 years to tweak and change things, and it’ll be better than a real one.
It's as imple equation...You either have enough to buy the real thing, and to be scared everytime you drive it...Or.......!!
So it’s a McLambo! The M70 engine has quite the distinguished relative.
Ferris Bueller's California replica is the only one that looks really good
The Miami Vice Daytona was also pretty nice
I think builders like Ferrari and Lamborghini are concerned that these counterfeit cars don't fair as well in an accident and that on-lookers would judge the outcome as being poorly made. Apart from the seat belt almost cutting you off at the neck it's a pretty good attempt, oh and that little wisp of blue smoke is another thing to put on the list. Good vid JayEmm
Slow down then
With a V12 I’m all for it. It’s only when someone tries to do it with a four cylinder diesel I object.
Does that one also use the MK1 focus indicator?
Just like the original car.
It is worth it just for the exhaust note and the odd flames coming out of them in my opinion.
MurcielaCo LOL Definitely sounds good though. I'm actually impressed. I generally hate these though. 8:14 - Oh bloody hell what is that welding?! Damn. Gotta hand it to the builder for the general fit and finish overall. And spitting flames as well. Nice!
