Jay Leno could easily have a second channel with millions of subscribers if he just put up web cams showing the craftsmen working on these pieces of automotive art.
To be fair, a lot of craftsmen don't like having others looking over their shoulders while they work (everyone's a critic). And few have Mustie1's ability to interact amiably with a camera audience while they work. -- It occurs to me that Mustie1 lives only about 15 miles from Jay's hometown. Jay should look him up next time he's back east.
I’ve thought many times, “I can only imagine what a McLaren F1 would sound like without the muffler”; I never thought I’d actually get to hear that glorious sound. Jay, you’re awesome.
Yes,I agree! When I see his videos I wonder what will happen to his beautiful collection of cars when he passes? There once was the Briggs Cunningham Auto Museum, that I was fortunate to visit in 1977,beautiful place. Now it’s gone after Briggs passed. There once was the Harrah Car Museum in Vegas. All gone. I think Jay has more cars than both had combined. Jay should live to at least 100!
Horizon Rider, thank you for your observation. Mr. Leno's ability to identify, attract and maintain the thoughtful and talented people that work with him is in my view as impressive as the cars, motorcycles and for goodness stationary steam engines built before standard nuts and bolts he shares with us. And yes I am watching this presentation again.... Good fun. Thank you Jay.
You know what we need to preserve? Jay. Jay Leno needs to be preserved so he can be shared for generations to come. What he's done for automotive history is absolutely incredible. Hats off to you sir.
I hope you can truly understand that for so many of us who love automobiles but do not have the means to experience them, how you sharing like this in some way makes our dreams come true. Every once in a while I spot my favorite cars of all time in the background and I get such great pleasure at seeing the beauty of the craftsmanship over the eras of automobile history as well as the impressive engineering. I treasure these videos so very much. Again thank you for sharing and allowing me to experience this great joy.
Jay nonchalantly walking around showing us these cars restorations as if he was showing some die-cast toys. It's mind boggling the amount of money needed to tackle these projects. Hundreds and hundreds of thousands in labor, parts etc...Thanks Jay, these are my favorite videos.
It's not just the money, but also the craftsmanship. You have to be a bit of a maniac to do that kind of work, and Jay finds 'em and keeps 'em. I imagine though, that for the guys he employs, it's a dream job.
LOVED this video. You act as both the caretaker and the doting parent. These cars are lucky that you found them, and we are lucky to have you share them with us
Amazing that Jay truly understands what he is describing, when he explains these things. This is one celebrity, I would love to sit down and have a cold drink with and talk cars and life.
Jay is doing nothing less than preserving our amazing automotive history and culture. I especially love his support of the people whose skills built and now maintain these great machines.
Jay.Leno. You will Always be my most anticipated video. Of all time. You're love and passion comes through when sharing your cars. Me and my son's hope and pray that we can watch you be around for MANY more fuel cells.
I liked you on the Tonight Show, but I have to say, I like you even better in the garage. You have a true love for those machines and it seems like that is your home. Good on ya!
Jay is a true class act. He is sharing his good fortune with all of us that would never even see some of his rolling masterpieces, let alone see them in pieces, then actually running down the road. Thanks Jay!!
I think this might be one of the best videos jay has ever made. I really enjoy the projects, looking at the details and effort Jay's team put in. Jay's attitude to updating his cars in the right areas to drive them is perfect in my view.
Love watching Jay gush over the F1. I’d be willing to bet it’s his favorite car. The purest of driving experiences. What’s impressive is his knowledge of cars is extraordinary! A true car guy. Keep em coming Jay!!
Had tears flowing throughout the video, the history that Jay shares with us FOR FREE will stop when he is no longer with us. He is the collector that collects to share and drive these great cars and brings us along for the ride. Who would show a F1 without it's exhaust revving like he did? Nobody. I used to make my son watch Jay's videos and now he is the one telling me that Jay has a new one up to watch. Do not take Jay for granted, when he is gone the behind the ropes views that he gives to us normal cars nuts will be gone. The press will state his tv experience but for me it will always be Jay Leno's garage, the place where us common people that love cars get to experience what so few usually do.
I have such respect for Jay. He saves these cars and brings them back to like new or better condition. He has great taste in toys and doesn’t mind spending what’s necessary to get the job done.
This is what I love about Jay's show - "listen to my Maclaren F1, oh wait, this Cortina is great... and here's my 1916 electric car with wooden wheels made by the Amish!"
Jays biggest asset, aside from Mavis, is this show and channel. For years, he's surrounded himself with the smartest, most innovative mechanics, with experience in so many areas.....on his dime. These videos don't do enough to compliment the guys who "live the dream", work for Jay, and get paid handsomely to be a part of Jays dream. Just know those guys are not just craftsman, but also, WELL paid.
Absolutely love these segments. The sound of the McLaren is orgasmic. Jay's passion for all types of cars, motorcycles, engines, and other things that pop and explode is so admirable. I love his belief that these machines should be driven and not just static. He brings a lot of pleasure to many people. Also, being back in denim is just the right thing to do.
It would be great to have a program that focus on a certain brand during the early days. Such as showing Cadillac's before 1940 then Lincoln, Packard, Chrysler and so on. Many thanks for your dedication to preservation of the past. It means so much to many of us.
Jay is a real resource and treasure to the car enthusiast community. I cannot express my gratitude that he has chosen to use his resources to educate and entertain all of us. I've learned so much and been exposed to cars I've never heard of because of him. Hats off to you Jay!
Mr. Leno is the ultimate motorhead spanning all generations. It is truly amazing the technology and the quality involved in the restorations. Every machine in the shop is art.
My new favorite way to unwind. Listening to Jay's incredible knowledge and feeling his joy as he celebrates each of these cars. Love the restoration blogs. More please!
By bringing all these back into running condition Jay has really helped keep them alive and keep them out of the scrap yards. He deserves some sort of an award. Not many people realize how special engineering from back in the day was how it advanced into what we all take for granted today.
Restoration Blog is like receiving a long awaited present! Encore, encore! Cannot get enough of Restoration Blog! Thanks Jay!!! Please don't keep us waiting too long for the next one.
He’s addressed that in the past. He said it would be to much work to bring the building up to code for public access, handicap bathrooms and entrances etc.
Samuel Seager i dont know, i really think he ment stuff gets moved or just lost... its a big place and i can think its easy for enyone to just pick something up and say HEY COOL WHATS THIS and put it on the next bench😂 every screw on that car has it place and i dont think you can just buy one🥴
Jay, you and i are from two completely different generations, and yet i feel like your living the dream i have every night, i appreciate your courtesy in allowing everyone to see what a great collection you have. I can't express to you how much i love the fact that you don't just buy a shiny new car and store it away so it never gets used, but the fact that you give new life to cars that have been forgotten. If you are ever in the Pittsburgh area i would love to take you out to lunch!
Yep, Mr. Leno. I do think that F1 is a truly epic car and my favorite supercar. Now the new Senna is a very Cool supercar. Thanks for showing me your cars that are almost done and i can't wait to see them in action. Another great video Jay
I love these resto-blogs Jay - I especially am looking forward to the completion on the "resto-modded" electric car (lol) and seeing the Merlin/Rolls ripping down the street! Thanks again!
People may think this idea is dumb, but i love the idea of a car of such magnitude that is so great that it must be serviced by a personal professional technician. For example; cars like a McLaren F1, Pagani, or an Aston Martin Vulcan. The quintessential car of each time, no restrictions, no limitations, and no rationale or reason. Jay is my #1 car guy! Please more McLaren F1 when you can. Thanks for being a living legend, great comic, great enthusiast. Long live the king of cars 😀
Thank you for making these videos, they have inspired me to get into cars. I had some bad experiences in the past because of my abusive mechanic father, and avoided the idea of fixing up and owning nice-ish cars. The videos uploaded on your website/channel have inspired me to get into it. I have now bought my first car in April, i am 19 years of age and the car i bought is a 1962 Buick LeSabre. Thank You Mr.Leno.
I had a 1954 Hudson Super Jet that I wanted to restore, but it was too far gone. It was parked in 1985 and had not been driven since. The engine and transmission were fine, in fact the engine ran so smooth and quiet i would bet it had been rebuilt not long before it was parked, but the rest of the car was in need of EVERYTHING. I love old American cars, but I keep winding up with old European stuff. An old car is a great car when everything works right, but a nightmare when they don't. Best of luck with your LeSabre, Let me know how it's going.
Jay! You're still my hero after all these years! The preservation of all these vehicles, keeping the genius Craftsmen working, and passing it on to the public...Bravo, and Thank you! 👍🇺🇸
The MP4/6 uses a Honda motor. The F1 is BMW. It's based on the 850CSi V12, but with head design similar to the Euro E36 M3. The 850CSi sounds like a complete dog, very underwhelming.
Jay I could watch these resto blogs all day. I know you can only work on so many projects because of the time commitment necessary to complete just one. Therefore there are a limited number of resto blogs, but they're fun to watch because u pack so many different projects into them. It is very interesting to watch you select a vehicle and why. Then we get a chance to see the challenges your crew is presented with and the tools, technologies and workmanship used to bring the vehicles back to life. We get a chance to see the whole project and the real amount of time it takes. Not like those other shows that get a vehicle restored in 30 mins with a fake deadline to meet. Thanks for sharing.
its so awesome that Jay does all this stuff to these old cars that would other wise be gone forever. Awesome that he takes his money and puts skilled people that can do this stuff to work.
That was the best Jay Leno garage video in quite some time. And as a die-hard Ferrari guy, I have to say that the McLaren F1 is the greatest car of all time. Love love love it.
With all the equipment and obviously talented people Jay has working there ...they have a small factory. Jay needs to design and build his own car and tell us what for and why on all the different details he would include! Great video...more of these!
Jay Leno could easily have a second channel with millions of subscribers if he just put up web cams showing the craftsmen working on these pieces of automotive art.

@@grizzlygrizzle yup, in my shop we call the bird doggin
I think the videos will be an excellent idea as clearly, the only real intent would be to show the technicians ability and artistry.
I’ve thought many times, “I can only imagine what a McLaren F1 would sound like without the muffler”; I never thought I’d actually get to hear that glorious sound. Jay, you’re awesome.
It's like a superbike engine! When he kills it, it instantly stops spinning.
You could do a 30 hour documentary on the McLaren F1 and I would watch every second at least twice.
All at once?
@Zack Smith Oky thnks fr yor cmmnt :-)
couldn´t agree more. The f1 is the best car ever made, period.

I wish
Jay's mechanics must be geniuses to work on such a wide range of supercars. Can you imagine the knowledge that's in that workshop?
I am sure he has many specialists for a lot of cars and different jobs, it is not like 3 guys are working on all his cars...
One of the many benefits of living in SoCal.
Horizon Rider, thank you for your observation. Well Jay on his own is a motoring prophet....anyone around him will want to learn everything they can
they can design and make their own engine and chassis too with all the experience
You know what we need to preserve? Jay. Jay Leno needs to be preserved so he can be shared for generations to come. What he's done for automotive history is absolutely incredible. Hats off to you sir.

Jay Leno is such a car guy that he measures life in McLaren F1 fuel cell replacement measurements. Lol
I bet he keeps them all too.
Lol is getting old. Fast.
Right? It's like dog years
I love that Jay Leno shows us all of this stuff. I’d NEVER be in a situation where I could see the motor pulled out of an F1 McLaren. Too cool!

Wow!
The F1 with no muffler sounds a lot like the McLaren MP4/6 Formula 1 car!
Well, they both do have V12s...
when they blipped the throttle, I heard about 15.000 rpm or so..
zymmer4 Nah that was about 4,000-5,000rpm. It resembles 10,000+ rpm because without the mufflers we’re hearing all the overtones at higher octaves.
and the fact that 12 cyls just fire alot more than other engines
