2004 F350 6.0 NO LOW/BASE OIL PRESSURE CHECK THIS FIRST

  • Check this first if you lose base/low oil pressure.
    Found a piece of debris in the oil pressure relief valve (possibly a broken piece of a snap ring from the top of an injector). If you find metal debris which is rectangular shaped most likely came from an injector snap ring and you may be able to drive the vehicle for a limited amount of time before you will have to eventually inspect repair and or replace suspected or confirmed damaged injectors. If you find metal debris that is round or cylindrical in shape (like a needle bearing out of a u-joint) then this most likely came from a cam follower and if you find this do not attempt to start or drive vehicle until you locate and replace bad cam follower. Also behind the harmonic balancer (crank pulley) is were your low pressure oil pump gears are located(similar to air-cooled VW engines but much bigger) debris can go through these gears damaging them and causing low/base oil pressure issues. This seems to be a common problem, place large magnets around outside or inside your oil pan to trap any debris in the system. Also these engines have been documented to get over 500k+ miles on them when all upgrades have been done. Research these upgrades well there are quit a few. Most important thing to remember is engine oil maintenance and monitoring is key. Keep your engine oil as clean and fresh as you possibly can.
    Thank you for watching and I hope this helps.

    I stumbled upon this great video and indeed found something in the pressure regulator. Unfortunately it’s a piece of a oil scraper ring from whatever cylinder. Also the ipr screen was pooched so replaced the ipr. Runs like top but when will she grenade... I’m wondering how often the rings fatigue in these trucks. 400k kms on original motor and now with insane blow by.

    • @ecran228e
      @ecran228e  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Diesel rings are usually designed to last 800k miles.
      1 mile = 1.609344 kilometers.
      *400,000km / 1.609344 = 248,548.47689mi*
      The odds of a piece of a piston ring being broken and found are extremely rare. Keep in mind when turbo seals go bad they tend to dump oil into the exhaust pipe. The piece of debris found in this video I believe came from my turbo right before it took a shit.

    • @rickbremmer3838
      @rickbremmer3838 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ecran228e I’m with you 100% on that, still trying to think on how a piece of piston ring would find it’s way in the oil pan provided the whole ring didn’t grenade but there’s zero evidence of that. The only thing I can go on is the sudden excessive blow by and massive amount of oil being pushed out of the engine more so then before, I do have a leaky valve cover gasket on passenger side which was never as bad until a few months ago, as well as, a rather disturbing amount of fine shavings on the plug magnet. Anyway. Some food for thought, thanks for the reply. The question is, would you drive till it shits the bed or sell for cheap lol.

    Is oil supposed to leak out of the filter housing overnight? After sitting at least half a day my 04 will start with no oil pressure until about 7 seconds then the pressure gauge kicks up and I hear a squeak from the turbo as it finally gets oil. I replaced the guts in the filter housing but nothing changed, it's dry when I open it after say 8-12 hours.

    • @ecran228e
      @ecran228e  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No if oil is leaking out of the oil housing one of two things I know of is causing that.
      1. Check to see if you have a tall oil filter cap (if so replace it with the stock size cap and original Motorcraft oil filter) also you may have the wrong size filter installed causing it to not extend down into the housing enough to contact the oil anti drain back button/valve.
      2. Your anti drain back button/valve is defective.

      Justin Kornkven no you do not have to pull the spring off. there is a drain button on the bottom of the housing positioned at 2 o clock you hold that down while cranking the motor to see if it fills up with oil which would confirm that your engine base oil pump is working.

      Bobby Fisk sounds like it may be as simple as a oil pressure switch or sensor. Remember switches are anolag (non computer controlled) and sensors are digital (computer controled or activated). You could also install an oil pressure test gauge into the the port of the oil pressure switch/sensor port to confirm whether or not you have oil pressure prior to changing out your pressure switch and or sensor. I understand most people do not have access to testers like this so hopefully this part is not very expensive. Hope this helps ; )

      Mike Riccardi should not have to replace any parts hopefully...to answer your question there is a o-ring on the plug and inside there will 1st be a spring then a piston which will most likely need to be removed with a magnet. once removed place magnet back inside hole to try and fish out any possible debris that maybe inside.

    • @ecran228e
      @ecran228e  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mike Hunt you need to obtain a schematic of the valve train. Followers ride on the cam controlling valve fuctionality. These folowers are mounted on a shaft which go through a needle type bearing on each follower. The follower racks (one controlling each head) would have to be removed, followers separated from rack and each followers bearing should be inspected. 1 follower per valve in most cases.

    • @natewilson7664
      @natewilson7664 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      its most likely from a lifter. you will probably need to replace it which means tearing the whole engine down so at that point you might as well bore your cylinders as necessary, replace your pushrods, reseal the block and stud the heads
