    Thanks Charles! I had the exact same problem as your wife. I would not have attempted this fix without your video. With your video, it took me 10 minutes, and it's like having a new computer. Thanks again.

      Thank you for your comment. I love hearing success stories from people like yourself. It makes me happy to know that, in a small way, I gave you the knowledge and confidence that you could do it. It is also nice to be able to fix something that you are attached to instead of just replacing it. Thank you again for the feedback.

    Much appreciated on the guide. Had a similar issue with my Toshiba. From what I could tell, the plastic casing that held the screw and nut in place on the right hinge had cracked. And overtime the hinge had been pinching the monitor cable due most likely due to not rotating properly. After the connection got bad enough (black screen, flickering, and red pixels at certain angels) I decided to purchase the replacement cable and got it done and changed out in about an hour thanks to your video.

      Thank you so much for the comment. I like being able to fix stuff. I am glad that I could help teach others, like yourself, be able to fix stuff. I like to think that I give people information that gives them the confidence to try something that might be outside their comfort level. It makes me very proud that you thanked me for the small part of helping you, even though you did the work. Good luck in all your future repairs.

    Thanks for the video. I have the same laptop as your wife and with the same screen problem (must be a Toshiba fault). Over 18 months my screen gradually was worsening until it became unviewable. Watching your video gave me the confidence to have a go at replacing my old cable. So I took the laptop apart, removed the screen cable and used the part number on the old cable to order an exact replacement. It occurred to me that I might forget how to reassemble the laptop before the new cable arrived, so I put it all back together and would you believe it, the screen now works perfectly. I was convinced that the old cable had disintegrated and was useless. Well at least I now have a spare cable should the problem recur. Once again, many thanks.
    PS I love the background sounds, reminds me of Florida

      Dude how lucky. I think it is a universal thing with all laptops. Any time you have ribbon cable bending in a tight space, there is going to be problems eventually. Background sounds are North Carolina. Cicadas have been crazy, this year. I went backpacking, this weekend, and almost could not sleep because of the noise they were making. Thank you for the comment. And let me know how long the cable lasts.

    how did you understand of the issue coming from the cable. How did you know your screen is solid?

    • @CHARLESCRANFORD
      @CHARLESCRANFORD  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It would work, when the screen was part way up, but not all the way up. The tiny wires, inside the cable, would make contact, while the cable was folded, but would loose contact, as the cable was unfolded. Thank you for your question and good luck fixing your laptop.

      CHARLES CRANFORD so I managed to do it following this video. But unless the new cable was also damaged it hasn’t fixed my issue. It definitely connected correctly as I turned the laptop on so I could see if it was working. But one little movement or after some time it freezes and starts going white again. Some may not have to replace their cable, check to see if it's pinched at the hinge. That was my issue; it may save you some time.

    • @CHARLESCRANFORD
      @CHARLESCRANFORD  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a good point, if you have some slack in the cable, you could pull the pinched part out of the hinge. The only problem would be if there is a short in the pinched part that might still short out, even if it is not bending. Good luck and thank you for the rip.

    Nice video! just a quick question, can you replace the screen cable to another "type" as in, if your screen was of type eDP with a 40pin connector, and you want to replace your current screen with a 30pin screen, can you just replace the cable to a 30pin cable without any problems? or are some motherboards specifically set up to only out put a signal supported by w/e cable it comes shipped with?
    thanks a lot!

    • @CHARLESCRANFORD
      @CHARLESCRANFORD  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the question. I am not sure. From a few online searches it seams to me that 40 pins are LVDS while 30 pins are eDP. If you were going to have to replace the screen, it would probably be easiest to replace it with the same screen. I have fixed two different laptops, with this problem, and all I had to do to fix them was to replace their cables. Both the screens were fine, just worn out cables. Good luck.

      Yes. Those cables are designed to be folded and unfolded thousands of times but eventually they can become damaged. A child cutting them damages them all at once instead of taking years. If your hinges are that worn out, it may be time to fix them as well. Good luck.

      I just finished my Satellite C55-C5241. On mine the connector on the motherboard had a clamping bar for the pins on the side. It took me awhile to figure that out as I was pulling on the cable towards the screen bottom with pliers it finally came out and the clamping bar folded up. Nothing broke, but knowing that connector had the clamp would have made it simpler. Suggestion: Add "Toshiba Satellite S55" into the title as this video is specific. Its close to my C55 but had minor differences. Thanks for the video.

    how did u know the problem was the cable and not the screen or control board?

    • @CHARLESCRANFORD
      @CHARLESCRANFORD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The screen would work fine, if it was in just the right position, but if we moved it further to a normal viewing angle, it would go blank. I guess the tiny cables, inside the ribbon, were making contact, but when the ribbon was screeched the cables would loose contact. Thank you for the question, I hope this answered your question.
