Your warnings and suggestions on how things could be different, and the pitfalls of assuming that just because we have years of experience, to assume nothing and do your homework, Thank you very much.

    I found your video very helpful. Thanks for posting it.
    Here's ANOTHER FIX to ad to the mix. My wife's laptop screen was flickering and going on and off with the least amount of movement of the screen. I figured it had to be a loose cable connection or a bad wire in the cable. While unfastening the screen, I left the screen running so I could see what made a difference as I touched things. The 2 bottom screws that hold the screen in were tight. THE 2 TOP SCREWS WERE LOOSE as could be. Just for the heck of it, I tried snugging those 2 screws up, and Voila!! The screen came on bright and consistently stayed on while moving it up and down!!
    It turned out to be a poor ground related to the 2 top screws! My wife is thrilled to have her computer up and running again.

    Very helpful! Curious, how to know which needs replacing, the LCD screen or cable? On my laptop, for example, having screen issues (getting stripes or pale colors) when I adjust the angle. What's the easiest way to diagnose which is the culprit? Thanks in advance!

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try the external monitor test as described here in this video. Do the stripes show up there too when you adjust the angle of the laptop monitor? Its most likely a loose or bad LCD Cable or a bad LCD. No way really to know which without replacing them one at a time.

    Hi, that’s very good. In my Toshiba satellite the screen goes black off and on when I am moving the flap. So I think it’s just a cable, either lose or disconnecting. The idea of replacing the whole cable seems like too much… is it easy to buy a new one

    How much should a simple LCD replacement/loose connection cost to repair from a shop?

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends where you live and what they have to do in order to fix it. Some shops will charge a diagnostic fee to find out what is wrong. At my shop on East coast America, I charge $45 for that. However, I wave that fee if they fix the computer with me. I would then charge $75 per repair plus parts.

      Yes, it could be the LCD or the LCD Cable. I would try unplugging the cable at both ends and then plugging it back in, making sure its not just loose. If that does not help, one of them may be bad. I would replace the LCD and the LCD Cable one at a time until I found the bad one.

    Thanks for the video. From an newer Insignia LCD digital television I removed the LCD, to test it plugged it in again and it worked. Because I’m making a no-backlight LCD, so the screen is more transparent as done on another TH-cam video I peeled off the filter, held it up to the light and I don’t see any screen cracks. I was extremely careful to make sure the LCD cable wires were not damaged. The monitor power indicator goes on but the LCD doesn't show any image when I turn it on now. Do you know what I may have done? May I please know if my TV Insignia LCD is broken since I removed the monitor cable but the thin metal fastener clip housing on the outside of the cable outlet on the LCD bus strip fell off that the monitor cable plug pin-strip plugs into on the LCD bus strip cable outlet?
    Is it possible if the television electronic circuit board is screwed back in with other screws from the assembly that fit for some electronic reason something will not work quite right?

    Great video! I fix a lot of laptops with minor issues and or just need screens replaced. But i have an odd one that maybe you'd be able to shed some light on. I have a Toshia P55w-B5112, which the screen is black but the touchscreen still works when connected to an external monitor. I checked the RAM, and because this PC doesn't have a separate CMOS battery (it's built into the main battery) i disconnected the main battery and still no love. I checked the connection of the video cable to the motherboard which is good. I haven't checked the connection on the back of the monitor yet, because it looks like its going to be a bear, and before i move forward with that figured i would see what you thought. Any insight you can provide is greatly appreciated...Thanks

      Yes, if an external monitor works well, it means there is nothing wrong with the signal coming from the motherboard. Only an issue with either the LCD or the LCD Cable. Hi,
    Thank You for the guidance.
    I have a lenovo IdeaPad Y700
    It fell of little bit while taking it out of my cupboard. Not severely.
    It was working before this incident perfectly.
    Laptop works, it also works on another monitor. Screen looks perfect. So I think the problem is either with LCD cable connection in LCD or motherboard which probably became loose or something might have broken.
    Could you guide on checks ? And also give a general idea on expense ?
    1. If it only disconnected
    2. If there is something broken ( what could it be ? ) And how much it should cost?
    Is there any thing else that might be a reason eg some light bulb or anything?
    I may not do everything myself as I never opened a laptop before ( am nervous ) but I don't want to get cheated. So want to know a fair cost of repairs in either case. And exact steps so other portions remain untouched.

    can i replace display cable without thermal tape ? what happens if i don’t use thermal tape? thank 🙏

      Does your current cable plug in with the assistance of thermal tape? If so, its best to use it. However, its not absolutely necessary. The computer will still work without it :)

    Your videos are super helpful and my laptop in particular has pink screen all over the lcd. Sometimes the lcd is fine upon startup but after a few seconds, it goes back to the pink screen. I had it checked in a local tech shop but its pretty obvious he was emptying my pockets to get it fixed as with other local tech shops near my area. Help? ☹

      Have you tried hooking the computer up to an external monitor? Does the problem continue on the external? If not, you most likely need a new LCD. For most computers, you can get a new LCD for around $30 USD and install it yourself.

      @@PC_Monkey Hi. Hope you're in good health amidst the pandemic. Anyway, the issue doesnt continue on my tv or other external monitor. A new lcd might be it but Im tossed different infos from local techs. I guess my question now is, do you have any tips where and how to find reliable lcd's? Does it really have to be the same brand? Thanks for answering! Really appreciate it.

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Giggity03 I usually get most of my computer parts on ebay and sometimes on amazon. No, it does not have to be the same brand. It has to be the same size, for example, most laptops will take a 15.6 inch screen. The back connector pin has to be the same size, either a 30 pin or 40 pin usually and the location of the connector pin has to be in the same place so the LCD cable can connect to it.

    Video #4 "replacing LCD/Cable - is there anyway to test cable - LCD turns on (sometimes) but goes back to gray if change angle hinges - believe it is a damaged cable? ASUS S300C. Have not tried external monitor, but believe it will show good. Is there some testing before opening and guessing?

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No real good way to test the cable. Its usually a pretty cheap part so if you have reason to think its been damaged, replace it :)

      The LCD Cable usually runs from the LCD to the Motherboard through the left side Hinge Assembly. You can see him unplug it here at 3:19 th-cam.com/video/mfGOQ0PBFRM/w-d-xo.html

    Followed all your suggestions in videos for black screen,can hear noises (3 clicks but no fan noise) but no display on laptop but will work on an external monitor via HDMI cable. Replaced LCD cable today. Still not working on laptop. Does this mean a new screen? Laptop is 7 yrs old Toshiba Satellite so wouldn't be surprised

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Most likely if your computer displays to an external monitor, then the issue is your LCD or LCD Cable. If replacing the LCD Cable does not help, the next step would be the screen

    Can I do this whole thing while my computer is running? I know you said the computer should be off when replacing LCD panels but I'll just be adjusting/checking some loose connections and I want it to be open because there's a certain image when opened makes the whole screen flicker.
    Edit: Nvm I seemed to have fix it!!! Thanks!!!!

    I am experiencing single vertical line on my laptop, I don't know whether the problem is from chip or ribbon cable, or maybe graphic drivers. Could you help me by any chance? Best regards.

    • @paulelderson934

      Its a month ago, but writing troubleshooting steps anyway because they might be helpful to someone else.
      First thing you do is hook up the laptop to a tv or monitor and see if it displays correctly.
      That tells you all the hardware is functional, except for the screen.
      If it is indeed just the screen, check if gently pushing on the back lid of the screen while tilting the screen has any effect on the type of distortion you're seeing.
      If it does, it's almost certainly the connector that just needs reseating.
      If it doesn't, try and take out the lcd cable as shown here, and inspect it carefully along the entire length, from end to end. If there's no visual clues, bend it gently on multiple places to see if it has snapped anywhere.
      If the cable looks good as well there's two options. First is to order a replacement cable which might either fix the problem or tell you its definitely the lcd panel that's broken. Second is just immediately RMA the laptop or order an entire new screen + cable combo for that laptop.
      Or maybe it's finally time for that upgrade you've wanted.
