All of this 🙌🏽 for reals though, when you dig deep enough every single company has problems in one way or another. The thing is that how can we bring this to light, be empowered consumers, and make our choices based on all of the information available? Love you and here’s to empowerment!
Cassandra: “This mythical story that exploits a culture and elephants.” Me in my video next week, “The name is so cute!” 🤣🤣 Loved hearing your thoughts Cassandra!
I’m literally from South Africa & this is seriously the furthest thing from being offensive. It’s a name constructed with creative freedom & everyone needs to stop BEING SO SENSITIVE to every single little thing in the world, it’s a name ffs...
Love you. Personally, I don't think the name itself exploits elephants.. it's a cute name and most people probably don't know the myth, and I'm guessing no one would exploit elephants even if they knew the backstory (especially when they're in the cruelty free market). Just my thoughts. I don't think the name is bad.
I used to be a HUGE fan of Drunk Elephant. I used to own all of the products and used to turn all of my friends & family onto the brand. I think now that we're a much more understanding community and we are able to make decisions for ourselves without needing all this marketing thrown in our face it hurt brands that rely on marketing, or packaging. We've become aware of ingredients and I would say most of us have the tools to understand them (Hyram, Susan, Cassandra, etc...). I think what Drunk Elephant does is insane to me. When you touched on the point of how their philosophy of "all skin issues are the same" really REALLY bugs me. I would love for my rosacea to be just a reaction to my skincare products, but ITS NOT. Everyone in my family has it and no amount of cute names and sleek packaging will change my skin.
The elephant in the room is no longer ignored. Thank you! My skin migrates more toward seed and camellia oils than marula, but my daughter loves this "clean" line. Would you consider spilling some tea on NIOD in a future video? I'd love to know more about this company and its partnership with Estee Lauder.
Drunk Elephant is just a brand that I avoid. Even before I knew about the scandals and negativity surrounding the brand. Mainly because when sephora gave the protini moisturizer and melon cleanser as a birthday gift, the moisturizer left redness on my skin and the cleaner practically made my sister's skin flare up in stinging and redness. Not a fan of the line because of that bad experience.
Unpopular opinion : I don't care about their PR, or IG bashing. (do I support that ? NO) but their products just work for me. I've been suffering for eczema for years, dry skin, but still acne prone and their products saved my skin.
I love that people get super excited about learning things! (Ingredients, history, etc..) I remember when the retinol first came out. I had question as a skin nerd and they did not disrespect me. They didn’t dis-credit me either. They were patient and very polite/pleasant. I’ve always had a philosophy: what works for some doesn’t work for others. I’ve never experienced the social media attack/customer service attack. I kinda feel like the max flux in people trying it; the traffic, is more than the customer service team can handle. (No excuse for these attacks as you put it) so maybe a more structured and supportive head of HR needs to be considered. I’ve worked in this atmosphere for a while now, and the sad thing despite how it all plays out is how everything is a witch hunt. You’re a very savvy and smart individual. I believe in freedom of speech and respectfully listening to people’s views. Honestly your money and your choice has always been a motto. I just wish people would go back to educating instead of influencing. (It’s a double edged sword with how you take on these such issues) But in the end you lowered yourself a little when you wanted to educate by taking a jab here and there with this presentation. State the research and facts you’d like to hit on by anything that you encounter with a negative. Always stay positive and then the “content” has a solid purpose. I still enjoy the research and passion you give. But slightly concerned if this is going to be a continued characteristic(s) of what’s to come in your content.
So true! I like to spend money, because I got a bit of it. But even that doesn't make me buy this brand. There are so much better options, for just a fraction of their prices, that give better results. I'll not spend loads of money on mediocre products.
I actually discovered the sad story of real life "Dumbo" while researching this company, an elephant who actually became an alcoholic because they gave him so much beer while he was traveling around in cages to be paraded in front of humans. It broke my heart. Now that's an actual true story the brand could've been based off but that isn't as happy as elephants getting drunk in the wild! Love your elephant mug btw 🐘🤍
I got a few of their minis and I love them, they’re the only products where I saw a visual, noticeable difference, even after trying even more expensive products from dermatologists which didn’t make a scrap of difference! I really like DE and will be buying the bigger versions of their products as the minis run out, I saw a noticeable difference in 2 days of using a combination of their products.
I'm a skincare education professional. I've really disliked this line for years. The fear-mongering was just so insane to me. Beyond that, Tiffany had absolutely no background in skincare and has been very transparent about building a line solely for the sale of it. DE's sale is the single most expensive skincare line sale. It's been around for 8 years. And the numbers - the annual sales - are completely unsustainable. Further, when I worked for Sunday Riley, I was in a Sephora store with the DE account executive and she literally yelled at me in store, on stage, in front of clients. The culture of that company is so toxic, the irony is just unbelievable. Also, their vitamin C serum sucks. It's a totally unstable formula. They phrase it on the bottle with "best fresh, don't stock up." You can literally watch the product oxidize over a few weeks.
I've personally reached out to Drunk Elephant via email about skin concerns and they were extremely kind, professional and informative. They provided tips and advice that's been beneficial to my skin. I believe it was quite a stretch to claim that the name exploits elephants? It's a playful way to connect their key ingredient. I personally recommend doing your own research on the company.
Yeah... because you were a potential consumer... if you call/email them to complain that one of their products gave you acne that's an entire different story.
This is honestly amazing. As someone struggled with hidradenitis suppurativa who has had bad acne since they were 12, I've tried a lot of products for acne. It bugs me when people assume that certain ingredients cause acne/sensitivity. No. Its literally in my DNA. Also boo, I just bought their sunscreen before watching this 😭
@@Sebadoh1994 so youre going to give money to a company that treats their own customers like shit ? And she never said all their products were bad she said is idiotic go think their products cant cause irritation to the skin.
All I can say is OMG 😮. Thank you for educating your audience. I used to love Drunk Elephant. I sent a message to DE asking if the company would sell the mini Baby Facial year around. I received a very nasty message stating either wait till the holiday season to purchase the mini or try something more affordable for you. Seriously 😳. Rather I can afford the product or not, did not address my question. Perhaps, I was asking for travel purposes. Anyhoo, it really irritated me & I started to notice similar complaints. Needless to say, I discontinued using all Drunk Elephant products. I found better products with exceptional customer service & even samples to try before you buy. Thank you again 😊. Cheers 😉🌷
Their sunscreen was one of the worst I have ever tried! Their Vitamin C serum started out okay and then they re-formulated the ingredients and it was awful. I kindly wrote customer service to inquire about the changes and got a rude reply in return. Haven't bought from them since and won't be buying from them again. Talk about overpriced. Glad someone is shedding light on this company.
Finally someone cracked open the hype and showed us what’s under it. I always had a sneaking suspicion about drunk elephant, never bought a product of theirs as a result and dang glad I didn’t.
Okay 2 questions: 1. Do you know of a dupe for the b hydra? That’s one of the only products that really really works for me 2. Where did you get that elephant mug 👀
B hydra wasn’t hydrating enough for me, so I had to PILE it on to get enough hydration. Hada labo lotion is an amazing product. It’s available on amazon, $12-15 for a giant bottle. It’s a clear liquid with tons of hydrating ingredients and comes in different intensities for different skin conditions. If you want a brand that sells officially in the U.S., try some Korean brands. Many of them are available online, or in Ulta or Sephora. They’re more affordable than American brands but tend to be fragrance free and have great ingredients. Just look for the word “essence.” I hope this helped; if you have any questions, I’ve been into skincare for a long time and could likely answer questions you have :)
I actually used to work at Sephora lol. I was part of the tuition reimbursement program for them to become an esthetician and then corona 😩 but thank you for the suggestions!
Ashley Hoss The Ordinary- Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5! No more than $12.20 for the big bottle. I’ve used both and The Ordinary is just as good and more affordable!
I’m sure the name is just a fun reference to the myth, not to spread the myth as a fact. Cass is so eloquent and on point in so many ways. The common place derogatory white references tho. White kids gotta be ashamed of being white to fit in? No babe, be proud of yourself what ever colour, even white. It may seem to be disconnected from the topic, it’s just that we hear it all the time so casually from so many people. Also I have never tried Drunk E , it’s pretty overpriced, will be looking into dupes for sure.
@@EgoBrain1 exactly lol. That's so lame. She thinks by putting the word "white" in her attack on DE that that somehow makes her some type of edgy, racial equality campaigner 🤣🤣🤣. She's completely clueless that it's not only WW that use DE. Asian, Indian, blk women love it too because they have great products to even out skin tone . But of course she wouldn't know that would she? I guarantee every single good friend this girl has is as white as she is. Shocking.
@@rowenya spot on! She's so arrogant and obnoxious she doesn't realize shes part of the problem. She suffers from White Savior Complex. Most white libs do.
I have sensitive acne prone skin and Marula oil itself it has been a game changer to me! As their C firma too. They might have a lot of flaws, but which brands don’t? their products are good to me and my experience with their cs 👍🏻
This is the same example as a certain organization and breast cancer. Question everything and do your own research. This skin care line is way out my price range and I feel quite certain my face will do fine without any of DE’s products. Thank you. I appreciate truth tellers. Good job. 🙏🏻💞🕊
Interesting. I watched an interview with the Drunk Elephant's creator. She said she came up with the elephant when she was trying to come up with a logo/name and her daughter drew the sketch of the elephant.
Exposing a brand is a very good idea because some people don't know about the brand and they will waste their money on the product which are hipped by influencers and that company doesn't have morals. We love you go ahead. We souport you ❤️❤️❤️
"It was named after a myth that doesn't even exist." The national animal of Scotland is a unicorn, Wales is a dragon. Those are mythical creatures. Myth has never equated to truth. Are you okay?
After watching Hyram's video I didn't intend to buy them, but after watching this, I am now convinced. It's too expensive anyway but thank you for taking the time to shed light on this issue so eloquently!
I love the TLC framboos glycolic serum!!! I’m not sure I can stop because it genuinely cured my bad acne and smoothed out my skin so well! That’s the only thing I really use though. I actually also have been using the retinol and it’s pretty great. But I could change that. I’m just not sure I can give up the serum 🥴
I've tried a couple of their products and I thought they were ok, but nothing special. I definitely felt they represented poor value for money. However, regardless of the products, the way the organisation presents itself and acts towards its customers and others in the industry is truly appalling. Such abhorrent behaviour is not acceptable and I thank the likes of Cassandra and Hyram for calling it out ✌🏾
Please do a dupe video!!! I just bought Protini as a treat to myself and I love it but I don’t want to repurchase it, now. I’ve also been looking for something similar to their Vitamin C. Thank you for explaining this!
I think I’ll go buy drunk elephant now. Just because everyone loves to jump on a bandwagon and bash companies. Nothing wrong with their name, people just love to find stuff to complain about!
Yeah! I knew u we’re gonna go a drunk elephant video from the stats, bu Tim glad I can finally know why it’s not working for my skin. Thanks bb! (You have made me so confident in my skin and skincare)
Caroline Hirons is a fucking goddess! Thank you for calling out the evil elephant and defending Caroline! You too are an absolute goddess! Keep up the good work girls xxxx
I’m agree with most of the arguments in this video, but when it’s about your body and your money I can’t be bias... I have tried most of DE products, also I have tried tons of vitamin C formulations and tons of moisturizers (including “dupes”) and there are not dupes (in my opinion) that beat efficiency and texture of the C-Firma and the Protini. If they don’t change those formulations, I will continue using them. My skin loves those 2.
I’ve started using a few of these products and my skin has changed for the best 100%. It is like night and day. I only knew about the negative responses and bad customer services not enough to quit buying. It is due to the prices that I may not buy them again.
Being vocal and shedding a light whats happening within the beauty industry (generally in every industry), raising awareness about the values, CSR and customer relations of such a famous brand is the only way to force those corporations to be more responsible and ethical on the market :) Ill personally will never ever buy their products now knowing that much about their business practices, so THANK YOU Cassandra :) Ive see Hyram's video as well, he is awesome
doesn't hide the fact their customer service being shitty, treatment with customers being shitty and infuencers, and the ambiguous philosophy so fucking shitty.
As many here I totally agree with everything you said, bar the part with the name being exploitative. I just can’t see what harm this is doing, even if the myth does not exist, many brand names are just fictional anyways. And still most of the products are just really good and pay out so I won’t stop using them really. And trust me, any company which is For Profit is doing something shady on the background, even the most “selfless” ones. That’s just how business works. Only hopes I have is for them to learn and hire a new customer service team!
I've been on the fence about this brand for a while. It's nice that it's all fragrance free, but I could never get behind the prices. The ingredients are basic at best and you could get the same thing at walgreens for 1/4 of the price without all the shadiness.
Literally what’s the point of diving deep into the name it isn’t even relevant to the products. It’s a cute name it’s memorable and has a funny backstory
Thank you. She thought she would look "edgy' by criticizing their use of the word elephant because elephants are found in Africa. So she pretended to make it a race thing 🤣🤣🤣
I would love you to do a video on Le Roche Posay, CeraVe or Bare Mineral products! :D The videos you produce are so helpful and informative! I love how you exert your own professional and personal opinion whilst encouraging others to take an initiative by 'turning and learning.' After suffering with eczema all my life I feel I am starting to take control of my skin and thus feel happier in the process! Thank you Cassandra
OMG I love this series so fricking much!!!!! I look forward to your videos and have learn't so much from them. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Now YOU sound drunk lol . This girl is one of the biggest hypocrites I've ever seen on TH-cam. Her fake racial equality schtick is so lame lol .
Wow, I didn't know this about Drunk Elephant. Thank you for speaking about it. I've also struggled with acne and skin sensitivity and was so excited for DE to be available in Australia, as soon as Mecca launched this brand I bought almost everything that was available at the time, including TLC serum, hydra B serum, both soaps and also received a deluxe sample of C- Firma serum recently. I wanted to love these products so bad but each one caused the same reaction, small red bumps all over my face filled with something that looked just like water but I'm not entirely sure what it was. I've tried each product multiple times because I didn't want to believe that the reaction I was getting was from DE products, but sure enough I've reacted each time and as soon as I would stop using those products my skin would heal withing a few days. The only few products that didn't cause a reaction was c-tango under eye cream and soaps, however I've noticed my skin texture got a lot worse when I was using soaps and my skin also was all over the place, so I stopped using soaps too. Also after watching this video I don't feel like purchasing c-tango cream ever again, even though I loved it but price is just too high - it's $93 AUD or something ridiculous like this. Thank you again for the video 💖
I appreciate everyones views but I love their products and will continue to purchase them. I have a hard time finding products that work for my skin and spent years searching for products that work as well as DE does for me.
I think that’s reasonable though! It’s really hard to find the right regimen for your skin, so if you found it with DE and don’t mind the prices, that’s great. When it comes down to it, we are all trying to find what works best for us.
I agree. Take all the drama out that people are creating and all you have left is a superb skin care line. I can say that some of the things she said arent all factual anyways
Most of us spend a small fortune trying to find products that work, and even then they don't always work together. The thing I love about DE is their products are designed to work together without any contradictions or irritation (for the majority). I use their TLC FRAMBOOISE GLYCOLIC NIGHT SERUM, B Hydra Serum, Jelly Cleanser and Umbra Tinte SPF. I tried to find dupes for 2 years and couldn't. Once I finish the stash of moisturizers, I might get Protini or La La. I really loved those moisturizers!
I’m glad you bought it up as I had reaction I had clear skin no ache nothing took me months to get my skin the way it is today! The way they spoke to me was disgusting I wouldn’t even give it to friends so over £300 quid went straight in the bin!
As one that doesn't have much skin issues, aside from Psoriasis and bacne if you will. I don't do a whole lot of skin care rutine. But what I love is the honesty Cassandra puts in her videos. Because than someone like me who does decide they want to try new skin care products I can do my own research and hear another person's review and Cassandra does amazing at telling as much information or truth when there is a LOT of hidden agendas behind a product/ skin care line. Also just subscribed! can't wait for more videos. ^~^
Hi Cassandra, as you mention several times infringing the patent of Skin Ceutical CE Ferulic, are you should it did not expire yet? I heard about very good dupes due to the expiration of patent, but again I did not research it. It’s just heard on the YT. Thanks for the brand review. Always appreciated.

All of this 🙌🏽 for reals though, when you dig deep enough every single company has problems in one way or another. The thing is that how can we bring this to light, be empowered consumers, and make our choices based on all of the information available? Love you and here’s to empowerment!
Sadly tho the original owner has already ran away with her $$
Cassandra: “This mythical story that exploits a culture and elephants.” Me in my video next week, “The name is so cute!” 🤣🤣 Loved hearing your thoughts Cassandra!
Cant wait to hear your opinions on the brand susan!
Susan Yara I think it's cute too! I'm over this overly pc culture where everyone gets offended by every little thing.
Are you African?if yess then only then you can get offended
Morgane Fierce that’s ridiculous.
I’m literally from South Africa & this is seriously the furthest thing from being offensive. It’s a name constructed with creative freedom & everyone needs to stop BEING SO SENSITIVE to every single little thing in the world, it’s a name ffs...
Well DAYUM girl thank YOU for your support and for holding them up to scrutiny.
Yours, the expert with ‘no understanding of formulas’. 😂🤷♀️♥️👌

We all love you Caroline
Drunk elephant is so overpriced!
Great to see you here Sarah! I personally completely agree!
Wow a $60 Ceramide cream! Wow! It’s not like I can get a Ceramide cream for $5.
Oh wait you can. 😒
It's NOT overpriced for the job it does. It's amazing!

Poor elephants. Imagine being accused of being a drunk when you never drink. 🐘
This actually made me laugh out loud 🤣
It’s a travesty. Somebody get legal.
Hahaha!!!
😆😆😆
LMFAO 😂😂😂😂
My skin loves the protini
I know I’m kinda late to the party but the tinted sunscreen is my holy grail
I love their vitamin c makes my skin looks healthier and younger
Unpopular opinion :
I don't care about their PR, or IG bashing. (do I support that ? NO) but their products just work for me. I've been suffering for eczema for years, dry skin, but still acne prone and their products saved my skin.
SAME. this who video is just petty.
SOOO happy you did this. I've read about the ludicrous statements & claims on their products. Founder is disgraceful.
I love that people get super excited about learning things! (Ingredients, history, etc..)
I remember when the retinol first came out.
(It’s a double edged sword with how you take on these such issues)
But in the end you lowered yourself a little when you wanted to educate by taking a jab here and there with this presentation.
State the research and facts you’d like to hit on by anything that you encounter with a negative. Always stay positive and then the “content” has a solid purpose.
I still enjoy the research and passion you give.
But slightly concerned if this is going to be a continued characteristic(s) of what’s to come in your content.
I wish there was a "love button" to hit in response to yours. With much respect and appreciation, well said.
Love my Drunk Elephant products and I will purchase them all again.
*me being okay with cancelling drunk elephant because it’s expensive*
So true! I like to spend money, because I got a bit of it. But even that doesn't make me buy this brand. There are so much better options, for just a fraction of their prices, that give better results. I'll not spend loads of money on mediocre products.
@@cathrinerhardt do you recommend another product that mirrors their T.L.C. Framboos™ Glycolic Night Serum ?
@@min1549 the some by Mi AHA, BHA, PHA Miracle Serum comes to mind.
@@cathrinerhardt lol 😂 seriously?! Some by mi compared to Drunk Elephant 😅
They were so rude to me!! Never again.
Caroline Hirons is such an amazing resource in the skincare and beauty world. I absolutely love her. Thank you for this video!
Frankie Favero fr. Diana should test and fake complain about their products to see if DE responds the same way...
@@frankiefavero1666 lies. I've BEEN a customer for yrs with complaints, sendbacks, etc. Theyre always patient and professional.

This is honestly amazing. As someone struggled with hidradenitis suppurativa who has had bad acne since they were 12, I've tried a lot of products for acne. It bugs me when people assume that certain ingredients cause acne/sensitivity. No. Its literally in my DNA. Also boo, I just bought their sunscreen before watching this 😭
I was thinking of splurging in their products this past week, glad I didnt. Will stick to the ordinary, cerave, and derma e

your commentary is honestly the highlight of my day
I’m so happy to hear this. Sending you lots of love 💕
DE makes great products. This girl is being paid by the Ordinary to bash other lines. Don't believe anything out of her mouth.
I feel SIGNIFICANTLY less powerless as a consumer THANK YOU.
That feeling is the goal. Love you and thank you for being here!
How can you love someone you literally never met ? Comes off very inauthentic.
Okay 2 questions:
1. Do you know of a dupe for the b hydra? That’s one of the only products that really really works for me
Try the hado labo skin plumping gel cream. It’s a great humectant. Also I believe you can get that mug on amazon.
I actually used to work at Sephora lol. I was part of the tuition reimbursement program for them to become an esthetician and then corona 😩 but thank you for the suggestions!
Check out Jordan Samuel’s hydrate serum(: his whole line is great actually
Ashley Hoss The Ordinary- Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5! No more than $12.20 for the big bottle. I’ve used both and The Ordinary is just as good and more affordable!
The ordinary is an absolute godsend for us. ❤️
Whew child, the ghetto. This is why we support The Ordinary., half the cost and JUST as good if not better in my opinion!
“Tourist safari for white soccer moms” 😂 I’m dying. But it’s kinda true
@@rowenya Being anti white is the new fad. White guilt by white women telling us we should have white guilt too. 🙄

Thanks a lot, influencers be pushing us for their selfish purpose
I’ve started using a few of these products and my skin has changed for the best 100%. It is like night and day.

I've been on the fence about this brand for a while. It's nice that it's all fragrance free, but I could never get behind the prices. The ingredients are basic at best and you could get the same thing at walgreens for 1/4 of the price without all the shadiness.
