I have this exact same mower. It is imperative to keep the carburetor 'linkage' functioning correctly. There is linkage on top the carb that can easily 'hang up' not allowing the auto choke to function properly. Use carb cleaner to clear away dust and dirt from that linkage. The cleaner yo keep the entire mower, the longer it lasts and the better it functions. Also, if you have access to ethanol free free, most small engine experts recommend using it in these engine. ethanol can cause carburetor issues and cause water to collect in the fuel system unless fuel stabilizers or fuel treatments are enlisted. That mower has a fuel shut off. It is there to turn off the fuel to 'run out' the fuel from the carb.

Thank you for the feedbacks and all good advice! I failed to mention the cutoff fuel and run all out is a must on all of my small engine units! 👍 👍 👍

A cold gasoline engine needs a rich fuel mixture to start.
Once started they begin to run fine on their normal leaner setting.
Carburetors have both manual and automatic choke mechanisms.
Both work fine if are in proper operating condition.
Chokes can stick on or off neither will allow proper running.
Avoid any debris into cylinder intake as it will cause piston scoring and valve seat damage.
The air filter prevents this in normal operation.
Disassembly could allow dirt into engine just be careful.
Fresh quality oil and new spark plug and clean cooling fins and blower impeller and air flow tract.
An inline fuel filter upstream of fuel shutoff not a bad idea. Clean gasoline is a carburetor’s best friend. Tiny ports and jets don’t clog.
For long term storage drain tank and float bowl.
At start up years later fresh fuel ⛽️ and she’ll purr like a kitten.🐈‍⬛
That little engine will run forever.

Well got to tell your brother you're going to have to replace it that pin sticking out will not go back in once it's worn out

Oh God here comes the WD40! There are actual lubricants available.

Better to use a dry silicone lube, it won't get sticky and attract dirt.

Very informative video. Are you up for a collaboration to share more tips of repairing? Hipa supplies small engine parts and maybe we could collaborate to help more DIY repairers.

Why do this in the grass? A work bench or driveway would be better.

Thanks! Hard to admit but I am so terrible with organizing; I got literally 4 car garage but don't have a nice work bench to work on. 😥

Hi, thanks for the feedback. Not really sure but the engine side gasket is placed on the mounting screws prior mating to the engine 👍😎

Thanks for comment; yes pin does go back in when engine is cool down.

I recommend carburetor cleaner in this situation. You MUST clean it not blow it!

Why not take off the shroud cover it makes easy to check everything around carburator

    • @CuriousKL

WD40 is NOT a lubricant. It is a very good penetrating agent. There are carb cleaner/lubricants available that is far better off to use.

To protect the life of the deck you clean it with the wire brush then use a old paint brush and brush used motor oil on the bottom of the deck to protect it from rust. 😉👍

@@nickbustos4839 Scrape and power wash the deck. After apply Rustoleum paint with a brush or rattle can. Caked wet grass has killed more decks than anything else. I try to never cut wet grass. I have decks 10 years old that look like new.
