I watched this video and thought this guy in flip-flops could never fix my problem. The valve cover on my mower was dented when it hit my toolbox in my pick up truck while transporting. I flatten the valve cover, put it back on and it fired right up! Thank you !!!

I believe mine was from repeatedly bumping the bottom rung on my kids' jungle-gym every time I mowed. Glad someone found it helpful! Thanks for the comment, Jack!

Nice catch on the dented valve cover. Muffler was punched in too.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! My honda has pretty much run like a champ until I took it over to a rental house to mow the lawn and didn't tie it down very well. It rolled forward and bumped into a toolbox in my truck. I was pretty well dumbfounded as to why it wouldn't start and was searching through mower videos to try and find out how to get it running again. I was about to give up and stumbled across yours. Hammered out the valve cover and it started right up again. You are awesome, Thanks again.
    Dave

If your GX200 type engine spits, sputters, backfires, and possibly runs fine intermittently or maybe not run at all, check the spark plug boot for arcing between the boot and valve cover.
Mine was doing this and had me stumped until I started it after dark and saw the arcing. You can slip a thin piece of plastic like a milk jug in that area to confirm this.
Thus was on a almost new pressure washer.

DIY Dave! With a Honda GCV video. Neat, I've seen with the GC190's on the Ryobi Pressure washer where the actual rocker arm breaks. I wound up replacing and I've also read some notch with like a punch around the valve guide if comes out to better secure. Seems there was another mod that isn't coming to mind as well. Anyways, that was required when you get the dangerous pull start and the cord rips back and can cause injury to a persons arm. Hurts like hen bad and I read injured more than one. I made a few videos dealing with, though mine are not as good, though might be informative. Anyways, I think my magneto went bad. I'm also waiting on my head gasket set for the 2013 prius and am thinking before I do, I do the B12 Chemtool soak and procedure prior to opening up since will be draining the oil anyways. Almost thinking running ATF in the oil as well, though doubt will do that prior.

Hey James. May your repairs go smoothly! ... BTW - My wife's a big Kenmore/Janome sewing machine fan. I told her about all the sewing machine stuff on your channel. :-)

Neat! No Genome or Janome or whatever that brand is as of yet. Was supposed to be only made in the US brands and I kept finding great deals that I figured I'd restore functionality and keep what I can use and donate or sell the rest. Got up to over 50 in like a two year period. Now, in regards to the GCV160, wound up being the spark plug had dry carbon deposits with some white deposit on the tip of the center electrode. The arch top outer area might had also had some residue and maybe oxide or something as wasn't the tightest installed and I was struggling to get a 0 ohms resistance reading from the threads to the arch over the center electrode. Brushed with a brass wire brush and lightly sanded the electrode arched part. Assured gap was 0.028 and installed a little tighter. Fired right up and stays running now. Thinking I'll re-install the previous ~14k ohm tested ignition coil and see how performs as I'm guessing that one didn't like the spark plugs resistance from the dry carbon and stuff residue state at all compared to the somewhat co-operating ~9k ohm ignition coil that was running for a few seconds reliably then killing the engine, if that's what actually was happening. I found a video from England I think, detailing the ignition coil can overheat due to the spark cap and spark plug resistance values, so that's what I assume. Have a good one!@@FamilyFriendlyDIY

@@jafinch78 Doh!! Yes, Janome (my bad -- [facepalm]) --- Nice. Got to love when you figure out an ignition problem like that.

Is brake cleaner the same as carburetor & choke cleaner? Next question can you use carburetor cleaner for brakes parts on your vehicle? Always wondered this? Thank you 👍

everyone knows that the GC-V has a auto choke and it is often problematic. Some are replacing the wax module and others are deleating the auto choke and going manual choke

Why not just spray into the chock with some gas before checking the spark plug. If it starts you know it's not the spark plug. Sorry just new to fixing these things, was wondering why people check the plugs first.

When I saw you spins that blade , and its spin more than half turn with the spark plug still I place , I guess the lawn mower had very low Compression in my head, after saws you take off the valves cover ,and you point out the 2 mark , problems should be easy to .solve

I thought it would have a chain or gears-- since it’s an oiled part of the crankcase. The surprises one gets when taking something apart without reading a manual or watching TH-cam video. :-). Thanks for the comment Larry!

Yeah. That was a kind of let-down, eh? ... but I did start it before going back and sealing it the valve cover to show the fix worked. Thanks for watching, Yolanda.
