Honda Lawn Mower Won’t Start?! Let’s Fix It!

- In this one im working on my project Honda mower model number HRR2169VKA that was given to me. This mower had been sitting outside for 3-4 years and hadn’t been ran within that timeframe. The mower is in decent shape so let’s see if I can get ‘er working.

These honda self propelled mowers have a GIGANTIC FLAW! Honda in their infinite wisdom decided a tiny red straw inside the fuel line would work well as a fuel filter. NOPE! it lets crap clog up the tiny little jet inside the carb and your honda is dead in the water. So to avoid this issue you have to put a real fuel filter inline with the fuel hose. Unfortunately I have searched everywhere to find a super short filter with the right inlet and outlets...And let me tell you thats about as rare as hens teeth. The amazon filters i ended up with have a tiny inlet /outlet that are so short they only have 1 single barb so of course they pop off and let all your gas leak out. Had to JB weld the POS filter just to sort of get it to fit!
And on a side note I cant stand the jig saw puzzle that is the carburetor and all the crap that mounts to it. I hope yall never have to take one off because you need 3 hands and some reference pictures to put the damn thing back together. I am EXTREMELY disappointed in honda. Will never buy another one of these mowers!!!!
Hi, I have a craftsman with Honda 160 GCV motor. My mower dies after one pass in the grass. I winterized it last winter. I drained the gas. I put fresh gas in this spring. I checked the Val fuel valve cap and cleared out the air holes. I replaced the spark plug. I completely overhaul the entire carburetor right down to the injection and cleaned it with a bread wire. I have tried using starter fluid. I have adjusted the choke.finally I bought a new carburetor set and installed that. And she still dies. What do you recommend next any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m a newbie and working my way through this as I go.
Interesting, it sounds like an airflow issue. Does your engine have this thermal wax coupling? I wonder if it’s not adjust the carb to change the airflow.
Mines works for a little while then shuts off when i go to crank it up again after numerous tries it wont start i wait again till the next time to cut the grass and it works for a little while then does the same wont start any suggestions need help thanks ?
@@blackasia8193 check that little thermal wax coupling I mentioned in the video. If it’s stuck you’ll need to replace it.
@@HomegrownHowTo thanks for your reply it wasn't stuck bud checked that I can't get it to start up keep cranking and cranking no luck after so many tries and waiting it works but only only runs long enough to cut the front Everytime I get to the back yard won't start you think it's a fuel access problem?
@@blackasia8193 have you tried to either clean or replace the carburetor? It sounds like an air flow issue.
