    About number 5... Gravity. Gravity is based on MASS, not volume alone. Considering that most of the volume consisted of breathable air, it brings the mass down considerably. However, that much steel should have SOME affect, I doubt it would be much; certainly not enough to make it difficult for a TIE fighter to achieve "escape velocity". Our medium sized moon has a diameter of 3474.73 kilometers and is solid rock. It's gravitational pull is ~1/6th of earth. The Death Star was miniscule compared to that at 127km, and is mostly air.

    • @blahfasel2000
      @blahfasel2000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yepp, even if it had the same density as our moon (3.344 g/cm^3, slightly higher than typical rock) its surface gravity would only be 0.6% of Earth's and its escape velocity would be a measly 86.8m/s (312km/h or ~200mph). You could shoot an arrow straight up with a regular bow and it wouldn't come back down.
      As for density of the Death Star, let's assume it's similar to an Oasis-class cruise ship (I tried using an aircraft carrier, but can't find any information about their total volume). Those ships have a total enclosed volume of about 750000m^3 and a total weight of about 100000t, so their average density is about 0.133g/cm^3 or about 1/25th of the Moon's. Escape velocity (for a given constant radius) is proportional to the square root of the density, so the Death Star's escape velocity goes down by another factor of 5 to only 17.4m/s (63km/h or 40mph). A small object simply thrown by hand could easily escape from it (fastest recorded baseball pitch is ~105mph, fastest recorded throw of a football is 66mph), or you could take off using a bicycle with a running start in one of the equatorial hangar bays.

    A few more:
    -The trench was at the pole, not the equator. The equatorial trench was for hangar bays -including hangars for Star Destroyers.
    -There were multiple trenches. Pilots actually had a hard time finding the right one.
    -there were multiple exhaust ports. Only one of them was able to be exploited as a weakness.
    -the exhaust port was at a 90 degree angle to the trench. Pilots were firing the torpedoes to lock on to the reactor energy signature as they passed over it. The torpedoes needed to arm at just the right moment or they would miss the turn. THIS is why Luke's shot was "impossible" -given the speed the fighters were going,, pilots had less than a millisecond of error on either side. (this is also why the Disney decision to make it an intentional weakness instead of an oversight makes little sense).

    The legends novel "Death Star" by Michael Reaves and Steve Perry is pretty good when it portrays life on the Death Star during its construction and right up to its destruction. You have a woman recruited to run one of the officers' clubs andan artillery commander recruited to be the head Superlaser gunner, not to mention assorted techs and slaves working on its construction. The basic concept is that Palpatine knew that the conventional military wouldn't be able to hold power indefinitely before a rebellion overthrew him. The Death Star was his insurance policy. Either you did what he said or he'd blow up your planet. He also applied the Sith Rule of Two in that originally he'd planned for two Death Stars, one larger one that he'd command personally and the other smaller one to be commanded by his apprentice.

    Just to see if I'm right, according to what I heard the "Tarkin Doctrine" was not only flawed but actually produced the opposite affect of what is was supposed to do, from what other TH-cam video makers on this subject have said, Tarkin created this doctrine based on his own experiences growing up in a rather harsh system where things were already bad possibly even worse than on planets controlled by the "Hut's" like Tatooine, but after the Death Star destroyed Alderaan there was more of an out-speaking on this subject by many Rebel Planets, and if I'm not mistaken again the primary reason that little to no action was initially taken after that until the Death Stars Destruction was due to the fact that the Emperor had dissolved the Imperial Senate and put his Regional Governors in charge, most likely because he thought that after the revelation of the Death Star Following the events in "Rogue One" that continue on in "Episode 4: A New Hope" that the Senators would use their combine political influences in a way that would have him thrown out of power, this all of course would have no doubt been his plan in the long term after establishing "The Empire" over "The Republic" and his initially needing the Senate to do so in the beginning, also one thing about the Death Star that seems more obvious about the second one over the first is that given the improvements from the first to the second(which you should also do a video on) is that the Emperor was probably planning to use the second Death Star as his "Home-base" as opposed to Coruscant due to the potential difficulty in penetrating the stations defenses after all construction was finished, finally if you do make a video about the second Death Star be sure to include details about its technical improvements as well as how secret the project was as opposed to the first and if they had taken anymore precautions in building it that would have prevented sabotage as was the case in the first as seen in "Rogue One"

      You're really stretching in order to make the rebels the bad guys here. Here's the difference: the Empire would kill those families and non-military workers themselves if their military family members stepped out of line. In addition, they would destroy ENTIRE worlds consisting of BILLIONS of people, if the governments of those worlds didn't toe the Imperial line. The Rebellion is paying a smaller, albeit necessary, lesser price of a percentage of those previous numbers, to stop that galactic massacre from happening. The Empire essentially is using the families for a dual purpose: to keep their soldiers in line AND as living shields from a rebel attack. This shows just how despicable the Empire is as compared to the Rebellion.

    Because it was massive enough to have gravity, its architecture should have been like an onion, not flat across.
    Also, I think if Lucas gave much thought to when Han and Chewie met, it was on the Death Star. However, since Han was a pilot, he should have seen it while flying supply runs. Unless they worked on the second Death Star. If it took however long to build the first, it had to take almost as long to build the second. Or longer, since it was bigger. So they must have started on the second long before they finished the first.

    Its a spaceship not a station, a station is well stationary. The Death Star has a hyperdrive for gods sake.... Sorry being nerdy and picky.

    • @joermnyc
      @joermnyc 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Deep Space 9 was always called a station, yet it had impulse engines to slowly move itself (they cheated and used a bubble to make the thing lighter so it moved faster... it almost destroyed the entire thing until they turned off the safety protocols.)

    • @bjacobs1988

      @@joermnyc I think they only moved DS9 from beyjor(spelling) to the wormhole, but those engines were for stability more than movement. I think Babylon 5 was a true station.

      @@bjacobs1988 yeah, DS Nine was moved from the orbit of Bajor, out to the Denorios Belt, right near the Bajor System terminus of the Bajoran Wormhole.

    Most of the habitant's onboard the DS were humans. That said, eventually we start having a family's, more or less, and to have your family, Wife, Husband, Boyfriend, Girlfriend, Spouse or Children is not only convenient, but a better working moral for the Trooper, Officer, Technician, Gunner, Engineer and Contractor. And I assume the DS is big enough to separate personal of time with on duty !

Plus the reactor and interstellar drive plus defensive weaponry? Seems like they just went big for bigness sake…

    It's been 38 - 44 years and no one has yet to answer the question of what was the purpose of the two imperial officers in the laser tunnel on both Deathstars other than to shield themselves by turning away when the laser is firing? Besides, you would think that being that close to the laser, those two would be vaporized from the kind of heat the laser is generating.
