    The main problem with adding the Jabba the Hutt scene to A New Hope is because a lot of the dialog from the scene was used for the conversation between Han and Greedo. So we end up just hearing almost the exact same conversation in the very next scene.

    As an OG OT fan, can we please bury the bull with who shot first??? In the original release, Han fired the ONLY shot! It was altered later to not make Han look like a cold blooded killer.

      Thing is, Han was specifically chosen by Obi-Wan to take him and Luke to Alderaan because he was a criminal. "You will never see a more wreched hive of scum and villainy" Han was not supposed to start off as a hero, which is what made his character arc so interesting. He goes from being a criminal only looking out for himself (and Chewbacca) to reluctantly rescuing Leia. Then abandons Luke and Leia on Yavin then shows up to save Luke in time for the Death Star to be destroyed.
      I can see why George Lucas may have preferred to make it "self-defense", but that defeats the entire point of why Han was hired in the first place.

    I always interpreted the galaxy wide celebration in Jedi's special edition to be about the death of the Emperor and not that the Empire itself has suddenly collapsed, as this would have rallied a great many more people to the Rebellion's cause to help them finish off the Empire in the battles to come.

    The Jabba scene in A New Hope should have been cut for two reasons. One, it was redundant because nothing new was provided to the audience via dialog that we hadn't already learned from the Greedo scene. Two, Lucas had to make it look like Han stepped on Jabba's tail to account for Harrison Ford walking around the stand in actor. A crime boss as powerful as Jabba would NEVER tolerate such disrespect from one of his underlings. Especially one who owed him so much money that Jabba already put a bounty on his head.

    I always figured Yoda's line about "the is another" was Anakin. Obi-Wan was fully aware Leia was Luke's sister, but when he says Luke was their last hope, Yoda says there is another like he is talking about someone Obi-Wan would never expect. Obi-Wan had pretty much accepted that there was no good left in Vader. He was the one who implied Luke would have to kill Vader. Yoda only tells Luke he must "face Vader". Perhaps Yoda was still able to sense there was still some good in Vader that Luke could use to bring Anakin back to the light. Afterall, that is what happened.

      Especially now since in the Obi-Wan series he is running around with young Leia and in Ep 3 Obi-Wan was there when Luke and Leia were born. The imagine in retrospect that Obi-Wan had no clue about them being siblings is hilarious. Even Obi’s look on his face when he sees Luke and Leia together in the Death Star hangar in Ep 4 fits with the later story.

    I have never understood the controversy regarding the Luke/Leia kiss in Empire. This wasn't a romantic kiss. I recognized that when I saw the movie for the first time, and after the sibling relationship was revealed and we had the chance to go back and review, you can see that she only did it to piss off Han. And it worked, too! Because it wasn't a romantic kiss, and the brother/sister relationship had not been revealed yet, I don't get why this scene freaks people out. I say get over it and enjoy how that kiss made Han Solo drop his jaw in amazement.

    Re: the unmasking of Darth Vader scene, I've heard that originally it was supposed to be David Prowse as the adult Anakin and the scene was actually shot with Prowse. But GL was holding a grudge against him over an interview he'd done before TESB where he speculated that Darth Vader was Luke's father. The story goes that after the filming, GL went back and shot it again with Sebastian Shaw, who was hired at the last minute without an audition. After editing in the Shaw footage, supposedly GL had the Prowse footage destroyed, including that of Prowse as Force-ghost Anakin in the Yub-Nub scene. Prowse only found out just prior to the premier.
    Can anyone confirm this as more than a bunch of rumors?

    • @hunterolaughlin
      @hunterolaughlin 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, this is indeed just a bunch of rumors. George never intended to use David Prowse for the unmasking Vader scene. Prowse was never informed they’d use another actor for the unmasking scene until the last minute and was disappointed.

  • @hunterolaughlin
    @hunterolaughlin 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Despite George’s chase for perfection or his dissatisfaction with some elements from the pre-Special Edition versions of the Star Wars trilogy, I think him getting rid of “Nub Yub” was one of the better decisions as the Victory Celebration score is a better score for ending the trilogy and feels more emotional. Besides, I heard “Nub Yub” might get erased from existence via time travel in the future anyways, so might as well as accept the new score as the definitive score of the end of the Star Wars trilogy.

    Robot Chicken did a skit about the Force ghosts, with Obi Wan complaining that Darth Vader is young Anakin again... but Obi Wan is still old!

    Is WhatCulture Star Wars going to review The Acolyte? The commentary from both extremes is hilarious to me. I love when people say that a single movie or show will destroy a franchise. I like the yubnub replacement song, but as a lifelong Star Wars fan for as long as I can remember since my birth in 1978---- coincidentally enough, on MAY THE 4TH, so I guess I was destined to be a SW Nerd, & as such, a foremost authority on all things Star Wars by birthright (lol,,jk on that last one).... I will ALWAYS love yubnub more, & not only cuz it sounds more EWOK MUSICAL INSTRUMENT APPROPRIATE!!!
      Hence, you will now understand why I now say that it seems that it is obvious that this DISAGREEMENT cannot be decided by our knowledge of the Force...
      (Ps, I still say, ever since I sat there around 2am in the theater for the midnight release of Episode 2, that that line, and in a sense, entire SCENE, would be so much better if Lucas didn't LUCAS & SLAM the audience over our heads with the EXTREMELY obvious rest of that line, "but by our skills with a lightsaber..."
      But rather, the 2 senior powerful masters chuck lightning & boulders at each other, Dooku still gives us the "it is obvious that..." line, but STOPS TALKING right after "knowledge of the Force...," and then we simply hear the iconic lightsaber ignition sound, we see the crimson hue of a Sith's weapon, and then we get what I still maintain in my 46 years alive, is the greatest, most awesome, & excitedly anticipated FAN SERVICE moment; Yoda busts out his adorable, fun size green lightsaber & we finally see THE GRAND MASTER open a can of Jedi Laser-Sword WhoopAss!!! 😀 🤣😜🤪🥰😍... I ignore the typical, uber-nerdy SW FAN "hate" on his subsequent Luchadore flips, cuz it was AWESOME to see. PeriodT.... and I DGAF that I jumped to lightspeed straight down VEER OFF TOPIC AVE 😂😂)
