Banning droids from the cantina makes sense from a business perspective. Droids don't eat or drink; they'd just be taking up space that could be used for paying customers. (it's kind of mean, but droids are third- or fourth-class citizens in Star Wars)

Even before any explanation was ever offered I thought your comment as well as the fact that droids could translate and even record the illegal activities that were occurring in the cantina were reasons enough for the policy.

All the new What Dismal stuff is weak B/S. 'Tales From The Mos Eisley Cantina' is your go-to source. What Dismal have cherrypicked details from the EU, (like Chalmun, who only appears as an EU character, and is never seen) despite saying that it's non canon. I stand by droids not being allowed in the cantina due to certain telepathic alien species, like Gotal, and H'Nemthians being able to pick up the electronic fields generated by droids, and finding the sensation unbearably irritating.

It was alluded in the book “Tales of the Mos Eisley Cantina” that droids were not allowed in the cantina because a droid had been used to blow up a target in the cantina before. This may be in connection with the running gag of IG-11 (an assassin droid) continuously saying he was going to self-destruct in a an episode of The Mandalorian t.v. show decades later. I am surprised this video did not mention that book at all.

I always thought Wuher, the bartender, was a clone from the Clone Wars and he didn't like Droid because he had to fight them years ago. Why doesn't he look or sound like a basic clone? Maybe he got surgery to change himself? Maybe he is one of the Bad Batch and changed his name and changed his look?
As it turns out, I was partially correct. It was because of the Clone Wars. The simplest reason is Droids don't drink booze. Still fun to think about it all. Where did he go after the Battle Of Endor? He coulda retired, took over as the night shift bartender? He got over the past and stopped hating robots? Thanks for this video, it's awesome.

I believe canonically, business has dried up somewhat in Mos Eisley since Jabba died, as shown by the lack of the prior bustle when Din visited the spaceport; so there is speculation to be made that he either quit or was laid off, with the droid brought in as a cost saving measure, the two could even be connected.

    • @AndrewLakeUK
      @AndrewLakeUK 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@michaelmckinnon1591 He may have been going for his gun, but in the original Star Wars, he didn't shoot at all. I don't even think he was going for his gun to shoot. He wanted the bounty that Jabba put on him. From Empire, we know that it was preferred to keep him alive. The "new" edits both weaken his character and don't make sense. Han was the only one to shoot. He was a cold-blooded killer. He redeemed himself. Like the Darth Vader arc, it shows that everyone is capable of change, improving, and becoming a good person.

I don't understand all the HATE for the Christmas Special.
Yes I agree looking back as an adult it was silli, goofy, and had all kinds of other flaws when comparing to the rest of the Star Wars media.
However I think people loose sight of the time period it was released.
We didn't have the internet much less youTube.
The only things we got to SEE of star Wars were maybe a commercial or a random magazine article.
We were starving for ANYTHING Star Wars.
My family had very little money so I had maybe 6-8 action figures.
I made my own vehicles and even built my own Death Star play set out of cardboard.
When that show came on it was the greatest thing I had seen since the movies themselves.
Nobody I knew had even heard of a VCR and so I did the next best thing.
I got one of those tape recorders with the buttons on one end, stood it in front of the tiny speaker of our( I'm guessing 17") television and recorded the audio from the show.
I listened to that tape for years lip syncing the starship song and reliving the show through my imagination.
That show has and always will be one of my best and favorite memories in my otherwise drizzled childhood.
So I think all the hate is misplaced and just perpetuated by people forgetting when it was from and who it was for, us kids who dreamed of being in the Star Wars world.
I wish it was released and I could have a copy of it to play and show my kids even along with some of the other obscure things published back then like commercials and toy ads..

I had always assumed droids weren't allowed because letting drinking, paying customers bring in big pieces of clunky electronic equipment with them was a waste of space that could accommodate other drinking, paying customers. I can't imagine bars and restaurants making a habit of allowing me to tote a big screen TV in and plunk it down at a table or barstool. Maybe if all the droids were the size of laptops.
