    I love that these Chinese pens all come with converters. Eyedropper converting takes a great pen and makes it leaky and unreliable.

    I have three of these in wood! :D They're great. Obviously mine aren't eyedropper-convertible, but they look pretty sweet. Next time I need one of those translucent ones :D

    I love the Jinhao line and I have three of the 51a pens, a wood and two acrylics. I've never had an issue with them, they're great writers and actually changed my mind about hooded nibs! I use vintage pens a lot and have never liked the feel before, but the experience with my 51a pens made a believer of me!

  • @narkoid
    @narkoid 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have 3 of them and they are fun. The wood one I have is really susceptible to temperature changes and tends to leak a little into the cap when I go from cold to hot environments. The other 2 are great.

  • @bobblakley
    @bobblakley 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a couple of the wood-body 51a's. It's a great pen - especially since if you cap it tightly it keeps ink wet for months. I've taken them on planes without much leakage too. It's my go-to under-ten-dollar pen.

    Have you guys seen the jinhao 51 with the medium nib I think. It has a standard non hooded nib. A friend gave me one a while ago. Fun pens. Cheers

    I want one.. liking the hooded nib.
    Okay.. 3 days later.. THANKS for the review. I ordered 2 in pearl ombre, blue/green and orange/purple. I dig em! My first $15 pens.. naturally it gave me an excuse to buy two new inks 🙃 always a plus.

    those Jinhao tubular nibs are pretty reliable. definitely pens I can recommend to people.
    I do wish they had options other than ultra fine though.

  • @bikkies
    @bikkies 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Jinhao 51A has to be one of my favourite pens. I don't know how they managed to pull it off, but they are phenomenally reliable with no hard starts or drying out for me, EVER. I like my classic Parker 21s and 51s so the section is familiar to me. Just like those vintage pens, every one of my 51As copes with fast writing and being generally abused to hell. Excellent for EDC while being cost effective. Surprisingly, the open/traditional nib variant of these has also never yet let me down. These are some of the reasons why I've amassed a stupid quantity of 51As and am continuing to hoard them.

  • @RobinT346

    awesome! I love the hooded nibs of the shark pens. I mean I love the sharkiness but I guess sometimes I don't want a brightly coloured shark?

    Great to see that you guys now carry the Jinhao 51a. I own 1/2 dozen of them and they are amazingly smooth, consistent writers. One of my 51a's is a dark wood and it's a really nice looking pen. I know Jinhao makes the pen with a standard (nonhooded) nib. I prefer the non-hooded nibs; they're friction fit and easily swapped. The 51a has got to be the least expensive acrylic pen available.

    • @JamesWilliams
      @JamesWilliams 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh. I had never once considered purchasing the Shark pens, but I have several of •these• little pens: all of the ombres, and a blue/black/white subtle swirl version that Brian might like, and a few of the translucent versions. I love the way they look, feel and write, which surprised me, as a lover of the medium/broad nibbed pens.
    I agree with a previous commenter that said these are similar to the Esterbrook Phaeton (I watched a video after reading that comment).
    The Jinhao 51A has allowed me to welcome in and truly appreciate EF nibs. (Plus, these fit in my budgetary wheelhouse: being a SENIOR on a seriously fixed income with an unbridled desire to have MANY pens, I've crowned myself the QUEEN OF CHINESE PENS, Long May I Reign!!)
    Thanks so much for this video! You fellows are fun to watch!

    I recently purchased an identical pen online in India which was sold as Jinhao 51a. However, when I opened the pen I found the cap with inscription "Jinhao" on the front side and "616" on the back side. The clip, ofcoursrse had a Jinhao logo. What is the correct name of this pen ?

  • @redinkruler
    @redinkruler 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I actually got this pen because I wanted a pen like the shark that wasnt a shark. Its perfect! My only issue is that the cap tends to fall off when its in my pencil case, so I need to keep it separate.

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Might be worth adding a O-ring to the grip section. Could hold the cap in place a bit better? Haven't tried it myself though. - Colin

  • @sherinzadakhudukhel6342
    @sherinzadakhudukhel6342 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I used it. Very nice pen but it's black ring with grief section is very unfavorable because it break/creak within one or two weeks which is not replaceable for general user.

    Kind of wish these came along before the 991, before I splurged on chinese pens. The 991 is less... 'obtrusive', but the 51A just looks that bit classier.

      @Gouletpens  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely carrying a few more colors, but the minimums for nib sizes are high so (like the Sharks), EF hooded is what it'll be for a while. If its super popular, we could open it up though. - Colin

    51A? I wonder if that's perhaps a very slight reference to a certain iconic pen from the past with a hooded nib as well. LOL
    Okay, just kidding. I know not everyone can track down a vintage Parker 51 in near mint condition. Or, is willing to pay the prices associated with one in such condition. So it's good that other enthusiasts have this Jinhao option.

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I consider this more of an homage to a classic design since the Parker 51 isn't even in production anymore. Parker themselves went in a different direction. Can't be surprised other brands realize the popularity (Jinhao, Esterbrook, Aurora) - Colin
