    A cool feature on these pens, if you have 2 pens with different color inks, touch tips for a couple seconds and then write, it will create an ombre effect.... lots of fun.

    I started doing calligraphy about 35 years ago and then moved to fountain pens for "regular writing" because of that - I've had the parallel pens for a long time because they are waaaaaay easier for calligraphy than dip pens - but they are so different from the other Pilot pens that it took me about a month to realize that I could use the parallel pen cartridges in my new Pilot Plumix!

    Hey guys! When you are trying to do the gothic stuff, hold the tip at a 45 degree angle "/" and you will naturally get the thinner and thicker line width as you write the lettering. I have done calligraphy for about 10 years and that is how you do it!

    I already have the pens. Can you order or download the booklet separately? Also I hope you cover how to "eyedropper fill" the pens and the range of inks which can be used with them. Thanks!

      I am an amateur calligrapher and have used these regularly for years, particularly for a quick piece, for practice. Easy to use as an eye dropper pen, and I refill empty cartridges, as well. I sometimes use diluted gouache, sumi and walnut inks. Love this pen!!

    Gradient was the word you were thinking about. And I would argue it's a great Calligraphy tool! Since I like calligraphy, lettering just seems like a bracket for artsy letters that can be done with any pen. But these wide edges are very suitable for certain calligraphy styles.
    I think mentioning the cool thing that one can write with the thin end of the plates is what makes these really easy to get a big contrast with, would have been nice, even if Drew showed it in his letter. :)

    I wonder if Pilot Parallels can be used as highlighters with the appropriate type of ink. Any thoughts on that? Love your work, thanks! :)

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think as long as you're not highlighting over fountain pen ink, you should be fine! I know Noodler's has a few different inks that could work: www.gouletpens.com/products/highlighters-ink-sample-set?variant=14333271146539 - Colin

    Fab (four) stuff, both. I have to concur with Drew, Susan, the Beatles are somewhat overrated ( sure, & I'm going to catch hell for that ;D ) - I think there are about three songs of theirs that I like; obviously, cannot take away the writing capabilities of Lennon & McCartney, but it's not necessarily music I have ever related to - & I'm not much younger than those boys from Liverpool. I have the 6.0mm, & 3.8mm Parallels, & as you both assert, they're so very cheap, & great fun !! Thank you very much !! :D

  • @collecter3456
    @collecter3456 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The Beatles are overrated!
    The parallel is fun to make into a pocket version. This pen makes very crisp lines, and is my favorite especially because you don't have to dip it, but it makes the crisp lines you would normally see with dip pens.

  • @kevinalexander8201
    @kevinalexander8201 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The Beatles would be overrated if they came out today. But they came out in the 60's so a lot of what we take for granted takes inspiration from them. A lot of what we take as nothing special today was revolutionary or at least evolutionary when it first showed up.
    I like the Pilot Parallel pens, but they are not that useful for how I write normally; they are however VERY useful for having fun though! great pens!

    May I offer an idea for a Write Now video?
    How about a Blindfold Challenge? Blindfold Brian and Drew a pen and see if they can identify the pen and nib size by feel.

    • @Gouletpens

      We've actually thought about something similar! I think it might be pretty easy for Brian & Drew, but maybe other here at Goulet Pens? Could be a fun video. - Colin

    Probably not the place for this but... I saw an ad in the paper for a Cross fountain pen but it was not called a fountain pen. They were selling it as a refillable pen. I had to ask myself why would they not refer to it as a fountain pen? Have the times moved past the old-timey word fountain pen? Any thoughts?

    • @kevinalexander8201
      @kevinalexander8201 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      maybe the person who placed the ad was not that familiar with pens?

    • @Gouletpens

      Interesting, haven't seen that. Was it definitely a fountain pen? It could be a refillable rollerball, other brands have that as well. Not familiar with Cross' catalog that well. - Colin

    any fellow lefties have suggestions on how to do the lettering with these? these pens are some of my very first fountain pens I have purchased. I gave up when I tried because it's soooo hard!

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Writing angle is pretty crucial with these, like Drew was saying. Rotating the paper around depending on your hand placement (overwriter/side/underwriter) may be the trick. Similar to other stub nibs. - Colin

    I like you, Drew, but if you keep trash-talking the Beatles I might have to revise my opinion. ;) (Seriously, it was so hard being a Beatles fan in the 80s/90s. Because New Kids on the Block and Offspring were the bastion of musical genius, right?) I love the parallels too - they're fun to play with and good for teaching yourself to be more conscious of your pen angle.
