As someone who is just getting started with my pen collection, that dragon one will be a must have!
My Jinhao shark is VERY smooth. Mine is a fine nib which is fully exposed. I am going to ninth grade, and people in school are fascinated by fountain pens, and they like the sharks. The jinhao 1200 dragon pen is great, the silver and gold are a bit gaudy, but the black looks classy and majestic.
I can't wait Aadarsh to see and perhaps own a silver or black one. I'll have to look into the choices because of what you have described as your preference and thoughts on the Dragon.
The 992 has an opaque version for all I know(I saw the black one and was like WOW), same exposed fine nib, plastic, free converter, meh it's cheap 😂
I think the Dragon Pen is AWESOME!!! I can see it being quite the convo started and anyone who's in the Wizards and Dragon thingys will identify with this pen! I'm calling the Hooded Shark pen the Needle Nosed Dolphin Pen - they have a dorsal fin too so it works, cause the hooded nib looks like a dolphin nose!! Epic episode, but then it ALWAYS is when both of you are on together!!!

Cheryl, I should have read your reply before posting my saga! lol, I wrote about the same thing. It sounded kind of emotionally painful every time Brian said it. A business promotional pen may be considered cheap. A Bic maybe considered cheap, but in my opinion, a fountain pen is in a whole other category of writing instruments. rotfl

I concur!! These two are ADORABLE together!!! The way they look at each other melts my heart - so much love there!!! Rachel's laugh is infectious and Brian is still the little playful boy - when he grabbed those two pens and started the shark vs dragon play scene, I laughed out loud!!
ha, ha, like brother and sister together! They act like family, it's great to work where you don't hate it, but fit in and then there is much fun!

I do own a couple of the Shark pens. I leave one on my desk at work on the off chance a workmate needs to the use of a pen, my subtle way of letting them in on how wonderful a fountain pen is. I do play with my pens daily, be it cleaning, grinding and polishing nibs etc etc and would constantly have ink stains on my fingers. I don't really make it a point to remove them, instead wear it as a "Badge of Honour" as only a fountain pen user can have.
Oh I'm loving the Dragon pen. Such a perfect pen to bring to Dungeons and Dragons games. :-) I'll be sure to create a Dragonborn Paladin for the occasion.
I love that you carry pens of such diverse price points. I love the Jinhaos that I've already purchased from you and will more than likely get that "poor man's Raden" lol.

I have the dragon model, pearl white, and it writes beautifully well! I even prefer it’s writing than my montblanc legrand....I love big heavy pen..😊

This might be my favorite Write Now episode. I love the joy you two are displaying for these pens, it goes to show just how much love there is in this hobby. They say if you love what you do it will never be work, they are wrong, it will still be work, but it makes the hard days worth it. thanks
Also, I love my shark pen, I have given one to each of my nieces and nephews, one niece holds a pen like a lefty, but writes righty, likely because her mom is lefty and she learned to write by watching her. I'm hoping the triangle grip will help her with writing and penmanship. There is no wrong way to hold a pen, but I think she is starting to struggle due to the grip not matching her hand. Also, she loves to bear down on a pen and grip really close to the end, when using fountain pens that means she grabs the nib, gets ink everywhere, all sorts of problems. The Shrouded nib is great because she can't do that.
I really enjoyed Brian's novella describing this pen. That alone will cause me to buy this baby when it is back in stock along with the Shell pen. I've had a shell Jinhao 650 for a few years. A huge pen! But I swapped a no. 6 Goulet nib and a Schmidt converter ...it is a wonderful fountain pen! I love my 159 with a Goulet nib as well.. and while I'm at it.. my 750, and 450! Just nice pens.. great gifts too! Thanks Rachel, Brian ans Andi.. best in class is the GPC!!

I need the dragon. I'll put a broad nib on it and put Apache sunset in it for a real flame look when the shading shows through.

I have to agree with Brian. That dragon pen might have to be added to my collection. I purchased the Golden Dragon a year ago just because it was soo gaudy! I love it!
I have most of those Jinhao pens. They're a good introduction to fountain pens.
As someone with a 4 finger grip, I can empathize with Rachael. I sometimes feel deprived from enjoying triangle-gripped pens. I have tried to relearn a 3 finger grip but it just does not work.
Ahh yes, the intentional and collectible Jinhao collection. I've a dedicated pair of white gloves for their arrival. Good show Goulets, absolutely good form. Pip pip.

Just got these shark fountain pens in the mail and they are so cute and write very very well! I got the extra fine point and it is perfect. They would great with the Lamy blue ink.

LAVA soap gets out Namiki black, Diamine poppy red and Diamine sargasso sea like a champ and saved a lot of laundry before I greased the threads on a new crystal Stipula Passport...
You guys should consider carrying the Pen BBS line, beautiful inexpensive pens with #6 nibs, and acrylic bodies.
Definitely something we're thinking through. Logistics are pretty tough to have it direct from overseas. But if we can sort that out at a good price, could be an option. - Colin

Why did I watch this episode? Now I'm going to have to listen to some Trans-Siberian Orchestra while exploring all the dragon themed items available from Goulet. I might have to place an order in the near future. If y'all carried any wolf themed items I'd really be in trouble. And, yes, I sometimes listen to Trans-Siberian Orchestra Christmas albums in the middle of summer.

I have the seashell pen. Very nice writer. I use it often and never runs dry.
Yeah, it's a solid pen and somewhat underrated next to the Shark & Dragon. Think I'll pick up a shell when it becomes available next week. - Colin

TH-cam needs a “love” button. That was so fun to watch! And I’m so glad you’ll carry the other colors of Shark Pens. And Rachel, I was just wondering when we’d find out what the “hideous” pen was! It almost seems like an Indiana Jones Pen. Maybe that’s why it was so popular with the guys. I’ll stick with the creatures of the deep myself. 😁🖋

I recall in grade school, 2nd or 3rd grade the teachers would scold anyone who used a non-traditional writing grip. Now, those teachers would probably be fired for doing that, but then in school paddling had only been discontinued for a few years. Mid 70's this would have been.
I have the 999 and I'm female. I love the artwork on the body. That's what attracted me to it. I write with it every day. It's my favorite pen.

I'm excited for the Goulet #5 nibs! I have an Ohto Tasche which takes a #5 and I'm waiting for the goulet nibs to arrive so i can swap it out. The Goulet Pen Co should consider carrying the Ohto Tasche (especially once Goulet #5 nibs are available) because its an excellent, affordable pocket pen. I love mine!

I have a 4 fingered grip like Rachel 😂 I had no clue until I got into fountain pens and saw triangular grips on pens like Lamy Safari and the Jinhao Shark. As long as the triangular grip isn’t too pronounced I don’t mind it
There is actually an Official Pokemon Christmas CD sung by the original cast of the first series called the Pokemon Christmas Bash that your son would probably love. Thanks for bringing in new Jinhao models. When I first started buying fountain pens, I got quite a few Jinhaos so I could have a variety of inks ready to use, and they were cheaper than anything else. I don't think I'm going to try to collect all the Jinhao models though😄
A shark pen-dragon pen battle would be epic. Maybe Joseph would like to write it. (Or Drew😉)

I have other pens from Jinhao with those nib units. They're actually pretty decent for the price.
Definitely a good addition on the low end of the price scale.
(For the record, I LOVE that sweater; I just can't imagine wearing it as I'm almost always too warm.)
I use a two-finger grip with ridiculously short writing impliments (think golf pencils).

Does the shark have the two safety holes in it? It seems like it might since it looks semi aimed at children but you didn't mention it. just curious!
Brian, Rachel (wonderful to see you Rachel) how many times Brian do you say "cheap?" Personally inexpensive sounds better to me. One because of how the word cheap sounds; sounds cheap and not associated with fountain pens no matter the maker, Jinhaos included. Secondly, not necessarily because to someone who is still dreaming of purchasing a first fountain pen, although not as expensive as others it is not cheap. Depends on your view. Brian, you have an entire cabinet full of fountain pens in various price ranges, and you carry around many fountain pens daily. You also by nature of your business can get any fountain pen, I imagine at any price. It is for your business and may even be a write-off. The high end of the echelon fountain pen passion. There are some, including children and adults who are still drooling over the thought of their first fountain pen.
I love the Jinhao Dragon of the selections of this video. Is it similar in size girth seems to the Jinhao 159? Can you switch out the nib of the Dragon for one of your Goulet nibs? The other Jinhao 159s you don't post Rachel because it messes up the finish on them, many say. I have had to learn to not post on my pens and the Jinhao 159 is the first one which is teaching me to not do so. I am normally a posting person. I assume you don't have to post and many people don't anyway. Love the size of the Dragon, may wait though for some other versions. This first one does not impress me as much. Thanks for the product update both of you. Looking forward to more new items and hopefully some more inexpensive fountain pens. Congratulations on reaching 50! And many more.,

Hi! I have been loving your videos, they're inspiring me to branch out into bottled ink. I see that I can convert the 993 Shark pen into an eyedropper with silicone grease and an o-ring. There are two o-rings available on your site. Which would you recommend for this conversion?

It’s cool you will be offering some #5 nibs! I guess I am a bit of a snob when it comes to pens and am not a Jinhao customer, but the shark pens do look like a fun pen to give someone that is not into fountain pens that likes a bit of whimsy, and be a conversation starter. The dragon pen is cool but I am more the type that would like them engraved in and not sticking up being lumps in my hand, but when I was younger I expect I would have wanted it as is.
Any of these new Jinhaos would make for great gift pens to be an intro to fountain pens I would think! Haven't had the chance to write with these yet, but swapping a GPC nib on the Dragon could make it awesome. - Colin
