  • In this video I show you how to remove silicone from clothes and carpets and which are the most effective methods. I also test many methods offered on the internet and TH-cam to expose some myths. I carried out these tests on a cheap polypropylene carpet material and on a piece of polyester and cotton fabric, using fresh and cured silicone.

    Instant subscribe. You did a great job breaking down your intent and results. I also appreciate that you didn't fill the video with useless information. All too often I am frustrated by people trying too hard to inject their personality into informative videos. This was perfect.

      Thanks for your comment That's Weird. I try to put all the details I can in a video so others can repeat them, so I don't have time for the BS. I think I don't have the personality either 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    This is so helpful, I have a favorite sweatshirt that I have had for years that I got silicone on and don't want to throw away and now I can fix it!

      Thanks for your comment William. Although hardened silicone isn't easy to get off, sometimes one can get lucky. So, good luck.

    best video on the topic and it only has 180 view?

    • @RODsDIY
      @RODsDIY  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for your comment Deb. The truth is it has 27k views and only 180 likes, however that still is low for a very successful TH-cam video, or a one of a kind. I believe it has to do with not having many subscribers. That's how TH-cam works.

    The #1 Rule. Wear old work clothes and put down a cover over all of the work area, then you won't need to worry about the silicone unless you step in it and walk all around your home, lol.

    I found a soak with white spirit and then scraping off the silicone followed by the same with automotive brake cleaner worked very good.

    Do you do a video on how to remove creases from shirts?

    • @RODsDIY
      @RODsDIY  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sorry, but I don't have one about that. Isn't it enough to just wet the crease and slide a warm iron over the crease back and forth?

    Hey i got silicon liquid glue on my carpet any suggestions to remove it its stuck together

    • @RODsDIY
      @RODsDIY  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Farhath. From my experience all you can do is try to separate from the carpet fibers using physical means (i.e your nails) and much patience. If the silicone is between two bits of carpet sticking them together, before using your nails, try to cut through the silicone, with least damage to the carpet with a very thin knife. If you are lucky, you might be able to pull both bits of carpet slowly and gently, ripping the silicone. Good luck.

    I want to stick beads with silicon on fabric how I do

    • @RODsDIY
      @RODsDIY  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That sounds interesting. Considering my experience witth stuck silicone, I'd say one good way is the following: 1) press a bit of silicone not larger than the bead into the fabric so it gets deeply entangled with the threads; 2) put a drop of silicone onto that small stain; 3) press the bead onto that drop. Of course, the bead has to of a material that will stick well to silicone. Some plastics don't stick at all well to silicone (PVC and Polyethylene) while others do (High Impact PolySteryne (HIPS) and Acrylic) as well as glass.

    Hello, our company is leading recycler of plastics in India.
    We have Tonnes of nylon peel ply waste.
    It is impossible to remove the resin or the silicone coating from it. Is it possible to provide any solution for the same? It would be a great help for us.

    • @RODsDIY
      @RODsDIY  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I understand peel ply is a fabric woven with fine nylon fibers, that means it has many intersctices between the fibers where the silicone can grab on to making it very difficult to remove once cured. Before curing, while still liquid, you might be able to clean it off with some of the products mentioned in my video, but as it's peel ply waste I suppose the silicone has cured long before it reaches you. If that is the case I doubt there is any chemical that can help you, and your only option is physical removal, something that probably would remove big chunks of nylon also. You can try to digest the silicone with isopropylalcohol (IPA), xylene or 1% tetra-n-butylammonium fluoride trihydrate (TBAF) in Dowanol propylene glycol methyl ether acetate (PMA), which apparently can digest silicone, although I doubt it would be cost-effective. In any case do tests before trying a large batch.

      White gasoline, naphta. A special formula without aditives used usually as fuel for camping lanterns and stoves.
