You made it look easy Jeremy.I had my first Honda clutch repair today,I turned the mower on it's side,looked at what I had,scratch my head and then went into house and pulled up TH-cam.I found your video and made the repair.Excellent video thank you.
just did a crankshaft replace in one of these mowers - didnt damage any of the clutch parts just bent the shaft so bad mower would shake across the driveway .
Thanks for the video. I have an HR215KHX Honda mower and am having an issue with the blade brake. The brake doesn't seem to release soon enough and is still holding as the blade is trying to engage and it kills the engine. We tried adjusting the cable and got it a bit better but you still have to play around and restart the engine several times before getting it to engage with engine still running. We took it all apart and cleaned everything up but nothing seemed to have excessive wear nor did we notice any other problems. We also lubricated the cables but again it didn't make any difference. Once you get it to engage the first time it works fine the rest of the time while mowing but the next time you go to mow it is the same thing. It doesn't matter whether I try to feather it to engage it or just push it all the way rather than slowly moving it, but again no difference. I am at a loss to figure out what else to try or do and would appreciate any suggestions you might have.

Wow that is an issue I think the best thing here is to use your smart phone and send me a video of the issue to themowermedic1@Gmail Before you film be sure to wipe the camera lens off and hold the phone as steady as possible or even get somebody to film for you while you explain

Did this mower start up with this issue present? Mine is locked up. Valves look good. Rockers looked good. Is really hard to turn the flywheel by hand it gets tougher when you turn it one direction for a while. Was even harder after I engaged and disengaged the blade clutch.
Using the blade as a puller brilliant. You do have some strength in those hands Jeremy. More than me.

I've HRU216 M2 mower and I've similar but little different issue here. I can't start my mower without pushing blade engaging lever in.
It's very hard to pull cord without engaging the blade lever. I don't know is it a problem with clutch assembly?

I swapped a new engine onto my deck (hit a rock and bent the shaft) and it worked fine up until a few months ago, the blade isnt spinning fast enough. the engine feels like it has good compression, its a new engine, I change the oil on all my engines far inside the recommended intervals.
what are the compression specs on the hrc216 engine?
if your getting a mowhawk strip from weak blade engagement, could that be a faulty blade clutch issue or are the rings in the cylinder bad from contamination of the oil?

My clutch bolt moves... not solid tight like the blade screws. Is it suppose to do that?
HR215 Master 5 Honda. Blade brake clutch seem frozen. I can adjust the cable pull handle and it will release which is opposite how it should work. The clutch brake assembly looks ok, could it possibly be a cable gone bad. Doesn't seem logical as it should be in release postion at rest, but I'm scratching my head.

I'd like to discontinue the clutch on my Honda engine. I have a HRX217HYA With a Honda GCV200 engine. What is the blade adapter number so I can run the double blades with out a clutch ?

Hey mowermedic! I wish I would have found this video beforehand, lol. I don't suppose you could help me diagnose a repair on my 216K3HXA, please? I was mowing our yard a couple weeks ago and I ran over the lid to our water meter with the tire and it flipped it up and hit the blade. It bent the blade like 45 degrees, so I replaced the blade and it was still making a horrible noise, shaking/vibrating horribly so I took apart everything that was in this video following the diagram on the Honda website. I replaced the plate ball control and brake housing because the retainer ball had dented them both and no longer seated firmly in there and assumed that was what was causing the vibration. I seemed to only have fixed half the problem because the mower now sounds and runs smoothly when the blade is engage, but when it's not engaged it sounds terrible and shakes violently. When I spin the recoil starter by hand the whole blade/brake/clutch assembly underneath wobbles awkwardly. Do you have any idea what this could be? I'm just a guy who's trying to save some money and DIY my mistake. Any help would be great appreciated! Thanks man and keep up the good videos!
Ace crankshaft is bent. Honda cranks are soft and bend easily. Best bet would be a new engine. But I have replaced a many crankshafts in my day. They are about 40$
THEMOWERMEDIC1 you rock man! I was afraid it was gonna be the crank... If I do replace the engine do you think I could sell the old one? I just got this mower last year so it’s still pretty much brand spanken new. I really try to clean it and maintain it after each use but if replacing a crank is a pain in the ass I might just go for the easier fix. I really appreciate the feedback, especially so quickly!
Hi. My problem is that the bearing behind the upper clutch housing broke. Do I need to heat the upper clutch disk to be able to pull it off? Do I also need to use a puller?
What happens if I bent the crank shaft? Can that be replaced or is it about the same to just put a new engine?

I have a GXV 160 UH2 SFL1 engine on my Kaaz Mower ( HRH clone with the Honda Rotostop) . Think you call them HRC 216 xxx.
You use an impact gun to undo the blade brake centre bolt. I need to buy one ... I have a compressor does 14 cfm runs at max 145 psi.
What is your impact gun’s max torque? Is it a small one? . A friend will sell me his cheap 3/8 impact gun (he never used it) but it has a max torque of 271 Nm!
Never used one of these guns myself , and tbh I am scared I might overdo it ...
He says the manufacturer makes a small valve thing, that reduces the flow of air at the tool, £11. Apparently designed to let people run air sanders at a slower speed. Would that gizzmo help?
Question: if you just touch the trigger lightly, am I right, that the gun won’t hit max torque, and hopefully will undo the nut without damaging the shaft or the woodruff key??

My other question is what Torque should one do the centre BB (RotoStop) Bolt up to? Heard a rumour it was 39 Nm., is that correct.?
And how do you stop the motor turning when using a manual torque wrench ?
I was told to do the top Flywheel 14mm Special Nut up to 70-80 Nm.
For my N1 engine, they didn’t say say how to stop the engine turning. But one guy said for the N1E version ( looks the same except the flywheel has Cogs for the starter motor I guess) , he was told to stick a screwdriver through the flywheel recoil pulley.
Mine has the same flywheel recoil pulley, for the recoil pins to engage in. Can I use this? As it saves taking off the cowl and the transistorised magneto and having to reset that, if say one was to use a strap wrench ( which I don’t have anyway).
Any help much appreciated.

I have a question, my lawnmower is a 20 year old HR2160 with electric start and rear roller. I've kept it clean by hosing out the under side with water. The last time I did this I'm sure i sprayed the water momentarily into the clutch from the side by mistake. When I used it a week later I noticed a slight squeak when I engage the blade other than that it works fine. Have I caused damage by spraying in the water? Dirt could have got in I guess.
I was going to take it apart to have a look and clean it but I don't really want to unless I have to, would I need an impact wrench to loosen/tighten the nuts?.
what do you suggest?

My blade holder came off but the bearing split and only the inner baring stayed on shaft. How do you get that off ??
Cut it off or use a bearing separator
Dude, you're the man! Now, if I could only get the damned bolt in the center loose... No impact gun in the house.
After busting my knuckles for three hours on one of these clutches , Ive come to the humble conclusion that Honda over engineered these push mowers. I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve never seen a single person, who looked at their push mower and said “I wish I could have the motor running without the blade going “. I think this clutch is a totally unnecessary feature… But hey, I know that to stay alive in any competitive market (lawnmower manufacturing being no exception), you have to keep coming up with innovative features… Whether they’re necessary or not. professional commercial mowers could never operate that way, they go over curbs, need to take grass bag off, need to idle all the time while they are doing something. biggest PITA having a lawn mower that shuts off and having to restart it when you need to step away.

Just replaced the blade assembly on my mower and put everything the way you did , now I can start the mower and the draw string won’t budge it feels like it’s bound up and I can’t figure out what’s wrong.
Did you figure out what happened. My Honda mower with the blade clutch won’t start and it sounds like there is spring tension snd I am wondering if it’s blade clutch related
@@thatgreatdeal yes, when I reinstalled the assembly i might’ve tightened everything together with the brakes a bit crooked, so after adjusting them and assembling again it worked fine

Just found a 214. Won’t pull starts unless I engage Roto stop.
I have a Honda with the blade brake clutch but the engine pull rope could not be pulled and I freed the flywheel by hand but when I started the mower and engaged the blade I heard loud noises and when I engaged the bade again the mower stalled and the starter rope "locked" up again. What would the problem be?

Why does it vibrate when i turn it on? What could be the problem? With out using the blades it vibrates alot.

What I really need to know is, on a Honda mower with this clutch system, how do I disassemble what's needed to remove and replace the wheel drive rubber belt. It seems impossible unless disassembling the clutch as shown leads to a solution. HELP!
the commercial HRC 216 does not have a rubber belt, you probably have a residential model
