I really cant get over how good that grey primer looks with the pearl over the top! This and the poor mans Lamborghini orange are my two favorite colors you have done!
Yeah man I don't know how well this would work long-term especially if you were to use automotive primers but with Rust-Oleum 2x it's practically the same thing as their paint thanks for watching!
I agree with all who like it best over black. Great experiment, but not anything I would paint with it. How many times I thought that and changed my mind, what's left of it. Thank you very much for your time and money in this video! Still a '5'.
It's fine everything hardened up like it should I'm going to do a video on it soon just been real busy trying to keep content coming in the meantime thanks for watching!
@@WHITLEYAUTOWORKS I new you were giving it time to harden up, was just curious man. We’ve still had some good warm days here in NC and if you put it out in the sun that shoulda dried her out good for ya. I’m glad it’s starting to cool off now but now I’m wondering if I’m gonna be able to get my bus painted before our days run too short cause it’s to tall to get into a paint booth to spray but I’ll get it figured out
Hey John can you explain the difference between white particle pearl and white interference pearl. Are they the same? I am trying to decide which will be best for a my project but undecided on which rustoleum white base, still in the research phase. Thanks for the experiments. keep it up! 5
There's not really a big difference per se it's just that they're a very light activated pearl opposed to the solid pearls that are more like very fine metal flake if that makes sense. If it's a ghost or interference pearl it's designed as more of a light effect pearl to be transparent on top of the base but the other white particle pearls are usually color shift and it's just the powder makeup of the pearl which creates a solid color that has shifts to it. Hope this helps I have a video called the ultimate Pearl guide I did a few months back if you want to watch it I did a massive spray out on it and thanks for watching!
You always use the speedokote. I have tried it with two brand new guns. I did add eyecandy pigment to it. Both guns failed after the packing began leaking. Am I the only one experiencing this with Speedokote?
I'm sorry your having issues with the guns failing I can only go from my experience and I've never had any issues with the Speedokote clear coat thanks for watching
Been watching a lot of your videos lots of questions but will keep it short 😮 wanna paint my 98 GMC Sierra extended cab I have sanded all the clear coat with 320 grit did some minor body dents& scratches so my question to you is should I spray a high build primer on and sand it with 400 grit? Then I'm going to use Rust-Oleum paint but deciding on my color as we speak.😊 So I'm using a hart auto paint gun with a 1.4 tip, what ratio do I need?? 2:1:1 3:1:1 or 4:1:1? I'm gonna use acetone for the reducer and a catalyst harder then I wanted to spray a clear coat with some small metal flake to make the paint sparkle 😊 the paint color will either be a red or brandywine would appreciate any advice you can give thanks and keep making informational videos 😊😊😊
Appreciate your questions and you reaching out watching the channel it really just depends on how particular you are with the body obviously if you were to high build primer the whole thing and 400 grit sand it you would probably get a much better finish than just letting it go with the 320 I would definitely wet sand it with 400 or 600 grit regardless before paint The 2 paint to 1 acetone to 10% hardener is the best bet that little pint of hardener is meant for a whole gallon of Rust-Oleum so divide accordingly but this is my two cents if you have any other questions feel free to ask anything and send me some pics when you get done always love to see everybody's work thanks for watching!
@user-vp3wp8bp7m it ends up coming out about 8 to 1 so so for every 8 oz you mix up add 1 oz of that hardener but ultimately it's not going to hurt you if you're off some
Normally that would be the case but with the Rust-Oleum 2X in the can unlike automotive primers it doesn't really shrink all that much it's about the same as spraying their paint and primer all in one and this was just an experiment everyone wanted to see thanks for watching!
Black with the pearl looks great

Nice job it all looks great 👍
Thanks 👍👍👍 black turns out great
Wow! How interesting! Thanks.
That works pretty good to make something of a metallic out of a base without changing the base color.
They all look great , white ❤️ 5
Love the brown primer" orange"
@@johnwerner7194 orange??? Lol
Dirty orange 🤣😎👍🍊
Darned cool experiment!
Definitely like the pearl sparkle over the black
"Sleeper beater" paintjob especially if you use satin or matte clear
Nice combo of color and clear options.
That pearl over the grey primer is bomb :) 5
Experiment success really like it over the rusty primer
Looks great! I’m gonna do this in grey primer on my civic today. Glad you made this video hopefully mine looks good to
I think the oxide and black are my favorites ....the grey with clear looks almost identical to nardo grey
I like the primers as basecoat, but would like to see a satin or matte top coat 👍
I think my *favorite* is the red!
I am in this project with my rims I’ve primed them but I love the primer color it’s amazing so I’ll sand it lightly and go for clear coat after that 😊
Jonathan you make primer the new base coat! Great job brother

Nice to know! Good work my man
Awesome job Jon. Think we’re going to do our budget build DSM in either white or grey primer with pearl clear! Thank you 🙏

I love that pearl, great look.
Since I live in Raleigh, I also noticed the RDU 106.1 license plate near the garage ceiling.
Good eye yes sir from back in the day lol 🤣👍
What kind of gun was he using that's sprayed that fast😮😮
A little bit of pearl goes a very long way. Less is definitely better.
How long do you wait until you spray the clear on the primer ?
About 20 minutes the spray paint sets up quick thanks for watching!
The black and the grey are the best of the four. The rust is interesting, but not really my style.
Any updates on how the Camaro job is coming along Jon?

Ok got it can you suggest a pearl color for red, or cranberry or a brandywine color

Would be much better if the primer sets and was sanded smooth, cause once it starts ti shrink man man man
