I don't do much exterior painting. I'm rebuilding deck stairs with railings and I picked up Sherwin Williams solid stain that was on sale to save money on my job. My buddy told me to check reviews and they're horrible. I was originally going to use Benjamin Moore and after doing some research, I'm going to return the other stuff. Thanks for the review. I really value someone with almost 30 years experience and their opinion. You saved me from using a bad product.

Benjamin Moore paint has always been my fave choice as an interior paint in my house. I will be painting the exterior this summer and have every intention of buying the Benjamin Moore for that as well.
I just painted my brick bungalow with this paint. Man what a job… the results though! Countless neighbours have been inspired. Just waiting for my black windows to arrive.

Once again the ghuru of painting in my humble opinion has done a great video and service to all of us looking for those hard to find answers thanks chris great work
Ben Moore is huge in new England lots of availability . The high Build Moore guard is a killer paint and is a go to for many skilled painters. 75% of exterior work here is over cedar siding be it shingles or claps. Most re-paint work here has lots prep work there aren't many hardi plank homes here. Aura Satin line especially the white is a beautiful finish. Good review as usual.
Upon recommendation of a professional painter, he said to use Mad Dog primer as the base coat then use Benjamin Moore Aura as the top coat. This was on virgin T1-11 wood siding using a combination of roller and brush. The finish is superb and was amazed at the quality of how well it looks.
Nice to see you've been using the BM products, they have been our go-to for years. Lol, and like you, I also judge adhesion partially based on how easy it comes off my skin at the end of the day !!
Benjamin Moore makes the best paint period, IMO. Unfortunately I recently moved to Georgia and it seems like very few people either not know about it because it seems like everyone is using Sherwin Williams and Home Depot. Only two clients house I’ve worked in that they bout Benjamin Moore paint. Not much dealers here either but luckily ACE hardware is carrying it so that’s good for me.

Just wanted to say I love all your videos. Been slowly repainting our entire home here in Nor Cal, all with Aura. Thank God the BM Local Paint store here is giving me a Contractor rate (20 Gallons later). I will echo what a few people have said already, the re-coat time says 1 hour on all my paint. I've looked at all, matte, egg, and satin. All says 1 hour. This paint is absolutely amazing. Most of our home is Egg Shell, but I will say even their Matte is very washable. I wish you'd do one about painting stair railing. We have white railing and gonna paint them soon. I noticed you had one old video, but would love to see an updated one from a DIY prospective. Maybe brushing it with BM Advanced. Thanks again for all the videos, I love them! PS.... Because of you, I've also purchased the Xtend+Climb ladder with the ladder aid pro. Worked great and great tips!
Yes, my husband swears by this paint. He has used it in the past and he said this paint still looks new after 15 years. We currently have it on our home and will be building a new one and will use Aura paint by BM.
Hey Chris! Great advice once again. You explain very well how different paints performed. I use PPG flat paint on most of my exterior such as metal/wood/vinyl and stucco. I may go to a Satin! Most paint today are all washable but some are not scrubbable. High end paint will do the job! Cheers! The gooseneck guy ! Don🤟
Here in Ontario Canada,I have used pretty much all brands available and pricing I pay about $57 contractor pricing for good quality paints. When it comes to Aura its standard across the board wherever you buy it because the price is the same but for an extra $20,it’s worth it every penny because you save a lot of time and how many you have to use and for me it’s worth paying $77 a gallon because I make back up in time saving. So if your customers can afford it,it’s worth it
Can you do a video on painting vinyl siding? Lots of confusion on it. For example painting with dark colors cause warping. People think vinyl can't be painted and cheaper than buying new siding.
@John: this is what it says on the Aura datasheet: "Do not paint vinyl with any color darker than the original color or having a Light Reflective Value (LRV) of less than 55 unless it is in the Benjamin Moore approved Colors for Vinyl palette and comports with the specific vinyl manufacturer guidelines when making the color selection and painting. Otherwise, the color will absorb more heat, possibly causing the siding to warp, resulting in additional repairs and expenses. "
I had a bad experience with Aura. I was doing a sunset orange over a not very dark beige. My supplier suggest Aura to make sure it covered in 1 coat. It took 3 coats. I was cursing and swearing on the 3rd coat as I worked till midnight to get it done. I never used Aura again. I'll stick with their Regal line, which has never failed me yet. To be clear, I am a professional and I know how to paint. It was the product, not me. 😉
A Sunset orange would require a primer to cover properly. Unfortunately the suppliers most of the time are not even painters nor have experience painting.
Used two grays and a white low sheen on my house. 1st time using Benjamin Aura, and will use again. Also my 1st airless job on stucco, and a patio fence. Not one issue. Thank you for all your tips, I learned a lot. Especially caulking tape. That’s a game changer painting trim on shiplap siding.
How much per gallon or did I miss that? I know sometimes we use SW Duration and it can be pretty pricey..not bad though..also do you remember back when Benjamin More sold satin impervo..oil base..man that was some awesome stuff..actually the new latex version isn’t bad at all either..
They list separate "dry to touch" and "recoat time" on the can for a reason. Violate this at your own peril (ask me how I know this). You can end up with the entire wall blistering and peeling off right before your eyes.
I wish I had a way to message and ask a few questions about certain titan sprayers. I paint for a family members business, and she uses different sprayers but cannot answer the questions about titan. I would really appreciate if I could speak or chat with you.
BM has great coverage, it looks good and is durable, plus has excellent color retention even in dark colors. Other paint companies have a hard time matching because BM adds far more pigment to their paints than others. Aura interior sags very easy, not so much exterior. The only negative in my opinion is it is a dirt magnet, and doesn’t wash off very easy.
Aura interior will be seeing a formula update *soon*. No more sagging, more durable and better hide on off whites. No longer zero voc so less flashing too
How does "lifetime warranty paint" affect your business's warranty on the paint job? Would it be more appropriate to think of it as a large dog lifetime (talking exteriors here)?
