    If you notice sanding scratches reappearing after wash its bc they are not fully buffed out. I use wax and grease remover or glass cleaner after compound. It will remove oils from panel and reveal spots not fully buffed.

      Yes that’s a good 👍 way to find sand scratches that haven’t been buffed out yet. 👍

      Body shop/production compounds and polishes contain fillers such as paraffins and oils that are meant to hide or "fill" fine scratches and swirls.The idea in a body shop is not to polish to perfection,but to get the job done as quickly as possible with an end result that is still presentable and acceptable to the customer(body shops and body shop technicians make money based on this principle).Washing the panel with soap after polishing is complete will strip away the paraffin and oil fillers that make the panel "look" acceptable.I am a refinish tech in a production body shop.And I do not agree with this practice.Reason being the first time the customer washes the car with soap it strips away the fillers and the true appearance of the panel is revealed.A customer who was happy when they picked their car up from the body shop is no longer happy after they wash their car.If you are lucky a happy customer will tell a few people how good a job you did,but an unhappy customer will tell 10 people how bad a job you did.The "customer comes first" mind set is a rare thing to find in the body shop setting,but a few of us are out there.Keep polishing to perfection my friend. 👍

    Nobody else told me to sand directional and perpendicular. I went criss cross. Why does it make a difference ?

    • @J.Lulo_
      @J.Lulo_  ปีที่แล้ว

      When you sand directional it is easier to polish the sand scratches if you sand it cross cross it will become more difficult to remove the sand scratches and it will take longer and you probably would have to turn the polisher to a high speed causing swirl marks.

      Usually you can wait until the next day if the car is baked in a paint booth or if the temperature where you live is hot like around 80 degrees or higher. If it’s cold where you live you might want to use a fast hardener with your clear coat so that it can cure faster and be able to sand it in one or two days. You can also use a blower heater to help dry it faster.

      @@J.Lulo_ in my case no paint booth, I will be painting on my drive way, I live in UK and temp now is not friendly, I am planning to paint in May when the temp raise a bit. I don’t know if to paint on drive is good idea? but I don’t have much options, I will be covering the all area with sort of Tarpaulin Waterproof cover on both sides. Do you have any advise? I suffer from mental health and I try to do things that I love to help me in difficult times. Thank you.

      As far as painting on your driveway, it can get complicated because your outside and a lot of debris can fall on the paint job. If it’s a small job it will probably be ok if it’s a big paint job it can be more problematic. A lot of people do paint cars outdoors but I’ve never done one. I guess iam spoiled because I’ve always worked in a quality paint shop.

    Very nice. Do you guys always sand and polish after paint job?

    • @J.Lulo_
      @J.Lulo_  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you 🙏 for the kind words I appreciate it. Not always, We only polish the job if we have to. In most cases we don’t because my paint jobs come out nice and clean.

      @@J.Lulo_ yeah usually production bodyshop did not really sand down and polish. Those dust nips only are the one got sanded and polished. Unless really thick orange peel that requires to sand down. If that's the case i would prefer to flow coat it instead of polishing.

    How do you know when you have compound long enough in one spot?

    • @J.Lulo_
      @J.Lulo_  ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to check the area to make sure all the sand scratches are completely removed. If you still see scratches you have to keep compounding and polishing until all the sand scratches are gone.

    • @J.Lulo_
      @J.Lulo_  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      After you buff away the scratches with compound you have to machine glaze it with a swirl mark removing glaze and a black glazing pad on the polisher.
