Hollywood icons Woody Allen and Mia Farrow had a 13-year relationship that ended in flames in 1992 in front of the nation's eyes. At the centre of the breakup were allegations that Woody Allen sexually abused Dylan Farrow, the daughter he had adopted with Mia Farrow. The case and the resulting fallout still resonate nearly 30 years later. The scandal has been resurrected this year with the release of the HBO docuseries Allen v. Farrow.
Joining us to discuss the social and cultural consequences of this story, the film and the reaction are the Emmy Award-winning filmmakers Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering.
“Dylan Farrow stood strong, and provided an example to Hollywood, to the country, and maybe in some ways to the rest of the world, about the courage of coming forward and standing by your truth.” - Kirby Dick

"Mia was an amateur cineast, that's what surprised me." It never occurs to her that this may have been conscious on Mia's part, and that she had coached Dylan.

Thanks for this interview, I'm so interested now in seeing the documentary series. I never knew how much effect this had on family court proceedings here in the US, but it makes sense. I hope you consider covering Depp v Heard someday - it deserves thorough, thoughtful coverage.

NO structure to this interview. For instance, what is the subject/general idea of the documentary. I have no idea what's what ie what the basic story of the doc actually is. The viewer has to watch this forever to try to figure out the foundation of the story. Very fragmented interview.
(Based on the room colors, this looks like it was ftaped in Prince Prospero's abbey!...but I guess that makes it at least visually interesting.)

Mia is a serial abuser and this documentary is so one-sided to consider it a documentary is being kind. Believe what you believe, but there are way more facts to the case than these two hacks presented and you should seek them out so you can come to a more informed decision.

Creepy yes, but she was of age, they weren't related, it has no bearing the case unless your only intent is to smear, and if you have a problem with this, you should also have a problem with Woodys relationship with Soon Yi and his various teenaged girlfriends.

If Dylan was not the daughter of Mia or Woody, her credibility would not have been challenged. People based their opinion of Dylan on their bias toward either parent. Woody has rationalized his relationship with Suni and his abuse of Dylan. He has no morality and has always been a self centered Hollywood elite. He has always objectified women in his work so why is anyone surprised that he treats Dylan like an object and something for his pleasure. I believe Dylan.

Themes in many allen films are time travel and Russian novels influence senses of self vs objectivity...none of it bodes well for a seven year old. He's not that into kids I suspect. He hurts who he wants to out of anger at his mother. It's like Putin's childhood trauma with the cornered rat, then taking it out on world.

    Allen VERSUS Farrow…

  • @rogueriver1000

When she called the interviewer out he started pivoting and BS’ing. He clearly had not watched this with an earlier comment like, “This is like a Kramer vs Kramer.” This case was in no way like that movie. It’s about a child who recanted sexual abuse to her mother and a mother who did the right thing and believed her and was crucified in the press for it by a powerful man. I thought it was absolutely an amazing series. All I can say about Mia Farrow, is she is she is an unsung hero. She dedicated her life to children and one of them was groomed and brainwashed by a pedophile who also molested Dylan. Mia had only two choices, and she made the right choice to believe her daughter. She should be applauded for it. So should Dylan.

Unsung hero? In order to believe Mia you have to disbelieve Soon-Yi and Moses, both who said they suffered terrible abuse and verbal assaults from Mia. Mia adopted and sent back kids like they were toy dolls, it's weird behaviour. She broke up the Previn family, Andre Previn's wife killed herself after that. TWO of the kids Mia adopted ended up killing themselves too.
Her story also makes no sense. What pedophile does it once? As far as I have seen, pedophilia is a compulsion. So Woody offended one time in his life and that was it? Why would he choose to offend in that house, almost totally full of adults who despised him? It makes no sense. Mia strikes me as just a mentalist. The series is completely biased and does very little to put across a balanced view.

Is Mia an "unsung hero" for hiring Alan Dershowitz as a lawyer and offering to make the criminal charges disappear in exchange for $7million?
Are the gross filmmakers behind this "absolutely an amazing series" heroic for deliberately omitting that Mia sought a hush money payday?
What kind of Mother/Unsung Hero - who's already a multimillionaire - would care more about MONEY than justice, if she truly thought a "pedo" had groomed, brainwashed and preyed upon two of her daughters? Seriously, what's your answer to that question?

I think Woody had a long term plan actually. In the late 80s friends and peers had cautioned Mia of Allen's behaviour towards Dylan....because of this, Allen agreed to go into therapy in 1990 and change his behaviour while in the same time he realized his behaviour could not change so he started procedures to adop Dylan...which happen in 1991 as a way to protect himself and have a say or silence people if anyone accused him of anything he could always say he was the father ...or some such nonsense.
