    Good to hear Mazda was helpful! I am so used to dealerships giving me the same run around especially on warranty repairs (looking at you Honda & Ford). It got to the point where I would bring in so many videos and pictures because I knew they would tell me they can't reproduce the issue etc. Then would start driving long distances to find a better service department. In one instance my Ford couldn't get some recalls fixed without me dropping it off for a week with no rental. Tried 5 dealers in the Houston area. it was a total nightmare. I would never own a Ford again.

    1- I turned the DRL off on my 2023 Select, less hours of work for headlights.
    2- I drive far away from the car in front of me on the highway to avoid rock ships on the paint, this really helps a lot. Avoid a bunch of trucks and cars on the highway, unfortunately some times this cannot be avoided, I just slow down to 60.

    Exactly, my soul red 46v 22 turbo at 34k is chipped. Don’t follow trucks. The windshield gets chips easy also. Too late for paint protection film. The clear coat is hard and brittle and chips. Sure is beautiful though. The body shop said this is super hard to match and blend.

    My 2016 CX-5 transmission was broken at 42k miles. I heard a scraping/grinding sound before it left me stranded on a freeway. Thank GOD an extended warranty replaced it for free. Had to wait a month to get the transmission shipped in from Japan. Very very glad it was from Japan. Other than that solid.

      Glad to hear you got it fixed! These transmissions are known for their reliability, but there’s bound to be a few failures here and there. I bought a new Hyundai in 2010 that began to have transmission issues on day one with just 20 miles on it - three transmissions and 90,000 miles later, I sold it!

    My 2008 Mazda3 also had paper-thin paint that chipped easily, and if I didn't treat the chips they'd quickly start to rust. Within 30k miles the wind and road salt had almost totally eaten the paint off of the steel wheels, which would rust themselves to the hubs, making tire rotations fun!

      My sister’s camry had that issue - you had to beat the hell out of the wheels to remove them. How did you like that car? Almost forgot you had a Mazda 3. I once owned a 1997 626 - bought in 2002 - easily the worst car I EVER owned.

      @@vwestlife no, and they were once known for AMAZING AC - my 1994 Miata will freeze you out with the top up, and a Mazda-built Ford Escort a friend once owned was more of the same. In the later days, Ford really tried to kill Mazda through lackluster products - your Mazda 3 was “peak Ford ownership,” intended to “check a box” in Mazda’s lineup. Now that Mazda’s independent again (save for the alliance with Toyota), they have become a force to be reckoned with - and the AC is back to arctic levels of coldness.

      @ihaveautism1996 No, Nissan became utter TRASH after the Renault takeover in the early 2000s, and are in the same camp as Mitsubishi when it comes to legitimacy as an automaker. I can say this after owning almost a dozen Nissan products produced before, during, and after the merger. Nissan will NEVER ditch the CVTs as they have perfected them somewhat and their short lifespan keeps older products off the road.

    I have the 2021 Carbon turbo and yes the paint is very thin. Mine didn’t chip but any small incident or whatever the paint scratches. Mine is Polymetal/ Grey. The oil consumption is horrendous I’ve had to top up 4xs already at 19,000miles. Infotainment does go out when it gets cold needs time to come back on. I do luv to drive my Turbo though.

    My mazda cx5 is 6 months old and driven 7000miles

    Does anyone see this issue ?

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try shifting it manually and see if it behaves differently. Adaptive transmissions will adjust their behavior based on the driver's driving style - if you drive aggressively for a few miles, it will begin to shift aggressively - same thing happens if you drive like a grandma. Another thing to consider is outside of the US, these engines have higher compression ratios - this means using lower-octane fuels will result in the ECU retarding the ignition timing, reducing engine output. Try running a tank or two of high-octane fuel in it, and you should notice a slight performance increase.

    With the Infotainment Systems, I gotta say that the majority of people are spoiled with extremely fast click/swipe response times on smartphones, so I think that`s why so many carmakers are getting bad reviews on that, and it`s understandable to be perfectly honest.
    Nobody has the time and attention span any more for the common "delay/lag" issues that most automakers are cheapening out of - this has to stop, I mean, they need to keep up with the current trends. Nowadays, few milliseconds input delay could trigger an anxiety attack ......I`m just kidding but you know what I mean :)

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm  ปีที่แล้ว

      I just wish infotainment systems were less integrated with a degree of modularity - back in the day, car buyers would regularly upgrade their stereo systems to suit their needs - nowadays, you need to upgrade to a heated steering wheel and 40” wheels just to get a subwoofer… it’s fucking ridiculous

    So as much as I tried to love my 2016 CX-5 it had one, huge, glaring fault. It was so damn slow. I don’t know if it was the car it’s self or me or what but I live in hilly western Nc and it couldn’t go up some roads. After a tune up and full service it still couldn’t get out of its own way. No check engine light, no nothing. I wound up being able to trade for a Camry Hybrid that was fine but not me and wound up trading that for my 20 VW Tiguan
    It has amazing power, handles like a dream and gets 26 mpg. Do I expect it to be reliable? Probably not, but I’ll do what I can to keep it going. I’ve put 8,000 miles on it in damn near 3 months and I love every moment of it.
    I thought about trying another cx-5 but the vw won me over. Awd, great room inside, base model with no no sunroof still has a nice feature set.
    Now I just wait and see what breaks if it does

      @@bbishoppcm I watched all your CX-5 videos because I am thinking about the same car & trim. Crazy. About the paint, I have an ND Miata and all us ND owners complain about the [crappy] paint. Otherwise, the ND has be rock solid; especially when I’ve beat the crap out of the car in over 25 track days. Except consumables like the brakes and tires, no issues. I had no idea, the CX5 had cylinder deactivation. Too bad Mazda couldn’t get it to be more efficient at higher speeds, say 60 MPA. 5% improvement in MPH is not very much. A close second for me at this point is some sort of hybrid. Seems Toyota and, funny enough Ford, have the most efficient hybrids. But it would mean giving up how Mazda’s drive and the near luxury build of Mazdas. The closest so far is the Lexus UX hybrid, the 250h. It costs $5-7k more but 10+ more mpg. The payback would be about 5 years at current gas prices, which I don’t know is worth it. Plus it’s a little smaller with no spare tire. What do you think?

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm  ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re pretty much on-point - I’m finding thin paint to be an issue with other makes as well, but Mazda’s tricoat red paint is uniquely susceptible due to its razor thin clearcoat. The fuel mileage doesn’t bother me at all - it’s a 2.5L four hauling a 4,000 pound SUV with 4WD! 24.5 mpg average is MILES better than some of the vehicles I’ve owned in the past that had smaller engines with less power. The only way to improve on this would be to go hybrid. I’ve done the brakes on a 2016 CX-5 and yeah, they do seem to burn through them….

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ltkwok Paint quality on all cars is pretty bad these days, as I mentioned earlier - gone are the days of thick, buffable coats of lacquer! Unfortunately, GM has given cylinder deactivation a bad name as they couldn't engineer themselves out of an unlocked room! Mazda's implementation is seamless and trouble-free - these engines had a rough start due to a software glitch, but that was rectified years ago, and earlier builds (since the 2018 introduction if this feature) are racking up miles without issue. If I were cross-shopping a CX-5 to a Toyota product, I'd totally spend the extra money on a Lexus as it has some of the sound-deadening features that were deliberately left out of the RAV-4 to provide incentives to spend the extra money on a Lexus that is otherwise the same vehicle (which is why the CX-5 is giving the RAV-4 a run for its money - as Mazda doesn't have a luxury division to worry about). Mazda definitely needs to start taking alternative fuels seriously, as consumers will start shying away from them if they don't honestly start offering electric or hybrid powertrains soon.
