    I purchased my CX-5 Preferred in Deep Crystal Blue Mica in Feb ‘22. I’m just about to hit 11,000 miles. I have the same minor issues as you regarding paint sensitivity and wanting a slightly better sound system. I haven’t noticed the tire wear as yet though. Outside of that, I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. I haven’t had any warranty and QC issues. That interior is so well done that it’s a pleasure to drive in on a daily basis. The click wheel is super easy to use so I’m totally fine without the touch screen option. I wanted a stylish, reliable, comfortable, and good handling CUV and this car has really delivered for me and then some.

    People not buying cars because they don't have a touch screen, that is absurd. My car has a radio with a tuner knob, and a volume knob.
    Honestly though, none of that stuff appeals to me, I just can't see why someone would not buy a car because of something like that.
    Although, nearly nothing about modern cars appeals to me, and I could never see myself buying one. The only thing I would really like to have that my cars don't have is a cup holder, but the hand brake does an okay job with that as well.

    Great video with lots of helpful information that makes me feel good about my purchase of a 2023 Premium package. I appreciate the knowledge of what to do about potential carbon buildup that I will definitely be looking into. So far I am loving this car and the 10 speaker Bose system is freaking amazing! Where they put the subwoofer to save space was ingenious in my opinion (it’s mounted in the spare tire) and has enough bass to actually vibrate my rear view mirror. The infotainment system only took me three days to master before muscle memory took over and I can now change screens without taking my eyes off the road which is a huge safety bonus. One thing you really didn’t mention was the five star crash ratings the CX5 has and it was the only car to pass the new standard for side crashes. Others will follow I’m sure but Mazda was the first. I also agree with not wanting or needing a Turbo due to the extra stress it puts on an engine and extra maintenance required to keep it running. I find the naturally aspirated 2.5 to be perfectly fine for day to day driving and quite honestly it’s pretty peppy in my opinion especially if it’s in sport mode. I have test drove a Corolla Cross, Subaru Crosstrek and a Honda CRV and in my opinion the CX5 was more engaging to drive and put a smile on my face. The handling is superb and I love the six speed transmission compared to the CVT my 09 Lancer has. So far my only complaint is you can’t open the rear hatch from inside the car unless you turn it off. It’s probably a safety feature but when I’m in park with the parking brake on you would think I could open it for my wife who needs to put items in. All in all though this is a well made quality car that I’m hoping will last for many years to come.

    Good information about your experience with your Cx5. I have too a 2022 CX5 Premium with just 4000 miles in one year so far I’m happy with my purchase. I about the comment you mentioned that the cars built in Mexico are inferior to the ones built in USA are not true I appreciate that comment, because a guy called Scotty Kilmer in his channel always talk garbage about the cars built in Mexico. Keep doing your videos they are interesting.

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I believe you are misquoting me - the Mexican-built Mazda CX-30, and Mazda 3 which is built in Mexico, from what I've been hearing, have a higher defect rate than the Japanese-built CX-5. This has nothing to do with the workers, but could be a production process or materials issue. Paint and body integrity seem to be common on these models. I've owned one Mexican-built vehicle (brand new 2007 Nissan Versa), and aside from a grease stain on the headliner from the factory - the vehicle was properly built, and the only issues I had were engineering-related. Scotty Kilmer is a dumbass who should never be taken seriously. But regardless, if I'm paying for a Japanese vehicle, I expect it to be built in Japan - part of the appeal of a Japanese-built vehicle is the lower tolerance for defects and higher standards and training the management expects from the workers. Some of the worst vehicles ever built were actually built in the US.

I constantly research cars and haven’t found anything bad regarding Mazda’s cylinder deactivation either. But with GM’s history with it, it admittedly does scare me a little bit. Aside from being mildly concerned about that, I’m so happy with my CX-5!

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yes, of course! Everyone whining about cylinder deactivation either heard it from Scotty Kilmer or knows a guy who owned a GM product. At this point, I am unaware of ANY issues with Mazda’s design outside of a software update that was applied to earlier vehicles (2018 and possibly 2019). Literally everyone I have spoken to about the general build quality has had almost nothing negative to say. These vehicles also have NOTHING in common with ANY Ford product, despite what “The Car Wizard” claims (he’s a genuinely knowledgeable mechanic and youtuber but he’s basing it all off older Mazda products which were actually built with Ford’s involvement).

    Great review! Actually it just reconfirms all the things I already knew about the CX-5.. My gas mileage on my 2019 has been as high 40 mpg on steady driving at 65mph on nice days but always is in the mid 30s. The only things I don't like is the piano black trim that is ALWAYS showing dust after a couple of days, and yes I do miss the fact there is wasn't an option for a CD player (I noticed they did have on for the Canadian market for awhile)- I know that shows my age. If I ever do get a new car in the future, hopefully Mazda will still be making the CX-5 as I like that model more than the CX-50.

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      No complaints in any of those areas. Mazda's engines are designed for quick warmup cycles, so heat is almost immediately available. The A/C is a modern R1234YF unit; it works very well, but expect higher service costs down the road as this type of refrigerant costs more, and is replacing R134A as the new normal regardless of manufacturer. I am starting my second winter with this car and I definitely appreciate the heated seats, which warm up faster than any of my previous Hyundais.

    Very helpful review. I’m considering a ‘24 CX5 but not as a workhorse car, more of a “nice-looking” daily car. The paint issue detracts from the “nice-looking” aspect. Coincidentally, a local Mazda dealer charges $1,500 for a paint treatment called PermaPlate, but if the paint is inferior, the treatment is a waste of money.

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Some colors are more or less prone to chipping. The Soul Crystal Red is one of the worst - which is by design, as the paint needs to be applied very thinly to achieve the desired effect. Stick with white, black, blue, silver, etc. Also, have paint protection film applied immediately after purchase - but do not buy it from the dealer, go to a detailing shop for this.

      I grew up across the street from a body shop - I can confirm, some paint colors really DO cost more - it's not just Mazda being douchey. Red, in particular, is a paint color that costs more as the raw materials for the pigment cost more. Mazda's red is even more unique, as it uses a pinkish basecoat, a candy coat, and a red tinted clearcoat - it's a total work of art, just not very durable. White, on the other hand, especially "fleet white," is the least expensive color.

    Mazda paint has been crap for a long time. The paint on my 2008 Mazda3 chipped easily and started rusting almost immediately if you didn't touch it up. And within 30k miles the wind and road salt ate all the paint off of the steel wheels and they were badly rusted.

I’d still buy the CX-5 again though - it just has that “utilitarian, quality, function over form” feel that Japanese built vehicles were once known for. My last two Korean vehicles were LOADED with whiz-bang technology - the Mazda is WAY more reserved in that regard, but I feel it will last MUCH longer.
