  • In the first track day of 2022 I finally get a chance to see what kind of a difference my Magnaflow 3" catback made in my quarter mile ET with my cammed 5.7 setup.

Great shit man. I'm having the same cam as yours being installed on my 2020 5.7 right now along with headers and a torque converter. I already have a 3.09 lsd and 3in catback. I can't wait to get the car back

Nice run! I had put a 3" cat back on my 2020 TA and felt the difference on the top end. Mainly when it over 5k rpm. It felt slightly better like it could "breathe" more.

Great runs!! Thats stout for a 5.7 manual car. Some bias plies and 17in rears will help it. Get that 60ft down then lookout!

I was slow on the draw to a set that went for sale a month ago. I’m still kicking myself for not jumping on them immediately. That’s definitely my next purchase though!

Thank you! It seems like my car likes it if I’m launching just enough to chirp the tires a bit but not spin them. It seems to like around a 3000rpm launch the best.

I’m going to try and make a trip to Vancouver in the fall to get some at sea level times this year, just have to plan for it as it’s a 12 hr drive. 😳
      Good ETs man!

Those are good runs considering the altitude. Conditions appeared to be relatively good that day for the track with 31% humidity, cool weather, and 1849 DA. Conditions make a big difference. For example, at my home track my car runs 11.7s to 12.2 depending on conditions. I think your car has a little more in it if you can improve the 60-foot times. I noticed that your car sometimes bogs out of the hole. I think the car is capable of 1.9 60-foot times if your practice. Perhaps you may want to consider getting a Dragy and work on the launch. It's relatively inexpensive and where you live it isn't hard to find an isolated place to work on the launch. The amount the 60-time improves will be doubled at the end of the 1/4 mile. If you can improve the 60-foot a tenth, it will improve the ET by about .2. Any thoughts about trying a dragstrip that is closer to sea level? My guess is that the car would run a 12.7 or 12.8.

Usually at the end of the season I like to make the trip out to Vancouver to run at sea level, but the track was shut down for the last couple years due to covid. I’m going to make it out there this year, but later in the season, it’s a bit of a treck from here (12 hr drive). The temp was definitely kind to me on these runs but I think there’s more to the et than that. I couldn’t help but notice I was running the exact same ET and MPH that the 6th gen Camaro SS’s were that day. Usually I’m one or 2 tenths and a couple mph slower than the SS’s and have to chop them down at the tree, but this time I was running exactly the same numbers. I’ll have to see as the season goes on but it was a great first trip out!

Not really anything downlow to be honest. Up top you notice it more, but keep in mind that’s where I had restrictions in my power curve after the cam install. Seems to have done the job!

    • @TrackPackRT

Elevation plays a big role. Put together with your weather data it’ll give you the density altitude of the 2 factors together. We’re at 2300 feet above sea level and the fastest I’ve seen stock 5.7s run around here is a 14.0

Yea the only way it can drop more is smaller diameter wheels or more mods. Stock I was somewhere around a 2.2 or so. Keep in mind I don’t have a torque converter to multiply that torque off launch. Those guys with autos have it easy haha
