As you love strings and orchestra and as you seem to be interested in new stuff: DEINE LAKAIEN (which translates to "Your Lackeys") were founded back in 1985 and released ten studio recordings within the three decades of the band’s history. The group unites influences from dark wave with pop music and elements of avant-garde as well as neoclassical. Influencing bands are bands of the 70s and 80s like Kraftwerk, Bauhaus, Ultravox and Joy Division. They sold more than 1 million records. During this time they accomplished the feat to make music solely for the sake of making music. DEINE LAKAIEN might have been claimed to belong to one or the other scene, but their essence has always been this: true to themselves and fearlessly experimental. In 2007 they played the „20 Years of Electronic Avant-Garde“ tour with 40 musicians of the „Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt“. Ernst Horn was able to rewrite the pieces for orchestra due to his background in classical music (see below). The orchestra did not play every piece, there were in fact also pure electronic songs. It was not just adding some classical instruments to male it epic like known in rock/pop/metal but true new adaptations. During those performances even an original c64 computer was on stage and used!. Ernst Horn, a musician from Munich, studied piano, percussions, and conducting at the conservatories in Munich, Freiburg and Hamburg. He directed the orchestras of the theaters at Oldenburg and Karlsruhe and worked as a pianist and composer for theater at the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel (Bavarian state theater) in Munich. He founded the band “Deine Lakaien” together with the singer and vocalist Alexander Veljanov from Berlin in 1985. Alexander Veljanov is a baritone singer, lyricist, and songwriter with German and Macedonian roots, studied dramatics and film studies in Munich and Berlin. In 1991 he finished his studies and stopped his past work at the theater (amongst others at Staatsoper München, Mythos Berlin) to concentrate completely on the career with DEINE LAKAIEN. A perfect way to experience them would be a double feature with an original song and one of the classical adaption. I‘d suggest „Return“ which is an awesome song, has a fantastic video and such a beautiful adoption for/with the orchestra: Official Video: th-cam.com/video/R51_fmw2oXU/w-d-xo.html Orchestra version: th-cam.com/video/NtD0EOTCWrQ/w-d-xo.html
That sounds like a VERY interesting tip! I read the “influences” to Mike and his ears perked right up! We shall definitely check them out. Thank you ❤️ - G
6;28 LOL what she said: "dank je wel Floortje !" It translates to: "Thank you little Floor" . Little in this case is a sort of word of endearment. But Floor is taller than most of the comment section which in case of metal are a lot of guys and herself too. :-)
In the Netherlands are many great duets with singers of the metal scene . Examples are Sharon den Adel and Anneke van Giersbergen with somewhere, Floor and Simone with Sancta Terra, Ayreon with the Valley of the Queens, Anneke and Paskal Jacobsen with Porselein etc etc.
Simone & Floor can sing classical music as if they had been doing just that their whole lives 😁 Floor has made some great solo singing with the classical music, check them out 🤗
Couldn't see anyone else say this, so fyi: They brought on the orchestra for this 10th anniversary concert. They don't usually perform with one (for many obvious reasons). (also can't stress enough how much you need to watch Sancta Terra and more live Nightwish stuff :D )
I would advice "Sancta Terra" from the same concert. And off course "Shoemaker" from Nightwish will astonish both of you. Have a great time and journey in music. Thank you for this trip.
This is from Epicas 10 year anniversary, the had full orchestra and choir on stage with them. And I think there's 13 more verses to this hymn. Next Floor and Troy, live acoustic "How's the heart"?
That proves how thin the line between classical music and metal truly is. An audience of diehard metralhardes in total silence. Also it proves how skilled and advanced as singers both Floor and Simone are.
Sancta Terra, another duet from these two amazing women por favor. Also nightwish doing phantom of the opera. Its bassist Marco and original vocalist Tarja, real good as well.
Why not vice versa, Simone visiting Floor in Hardenberg, The Netherlands, Christmas show 2007 Simone Simons and After Forever - Beyond me th-cam.com/video/H54omqI4_5k/w-d-xo.html sadly bad video but audio is ok
This is the first movement of Stabat Mater by Pergolesi (1736). People who know more about classical music than me say this is considered one of the greatest songs in the classical repertoire. Epica used to regularly play classical and/or film score music in their live concerts. They only stopped because their catalogue of songs became too large--not fair to fans if you cut someone's favorite Epica song to fit in something from Vivaldi or John Williams. Their first live album "The Classical Conspiracy" was done with the same orchestra here and had a bunch of classical and film score pieces. Mark Jansen said that his goal when he formed Epica was to combine metal and classical music.
Sancta Terra from this concert for Floor and Simone again, then Within Temptation: Somewhere from the Black Symphony concert for the other two Dutch metal goddesses, Sharon den Adel and Anneke van Giersbergen.
You know this piece was in a middle of a metal concert, right? This is Epica’s 10th anniversary concert called Retrospect, 3 hours of epicness including full orchestra, choir and special guests. Definitely one of the most ambitious, complex and epic concerts ever. Check out some more examples from this concert (without Floor..) - Epica - Chasing the Dragon Epica - Serenade of Self-Destruction Epica - Design Your Universe
as an aside, note how floor is always in a position to clock the conductor and give hand signals to simone. very clever. i know this is late. kindest c.
I love this turn that metal has taken in recent years because I have always argued that rock is the high skill, high art, end of the modern musical spectrum and pieces like this performed by bands like Epica just prove my point :D. Thank you Mike & Ginger -- this is a song that I personally have recommended to others before but it does tend to get drowned out by "Sancta Terra", which is a really good video of Floor & Simone and more of a "rock" version. To add some more info on the background of the song, seconding Flavio, commentator, below: "Stabat Mater Dolorosa is considered one of the seven greatest Latin hymns of all time. It is based upon the prophecy of Simeon that a sword was to pierce the heart of His mother, Mary (Lk 2:35). The hymn originated in the 13th century during the peak of Franciscan devotion to the crucified Jesus and has been attributed to Pope Innocent III (d. 1216), St. Bonaventure, or more commonly, Jacopone da Todi (1230-1306), who is considered by most to be the real author". But love anything with Froor and Nightwish"!

I think you will also like Epica Sancta Terra - more metal but also operatic ft Floor and her together. So Good
As you love strings and orchestra and as you seem to be interested in new stuff:
DEINE LAKAIEN (which translates to "Your Lackeys") were founded back in 1985 and released ten studio recordings within the three decades of the band’s history.
I‘d suggest „Return“ which is an awesome song, has a fantastic video and such a beautiful adoption for/with the orchestra:

That sounds like a VERY interesting tip! I read the “influences” to Mike and his ears perked right up! We shall definitely check them out. Thank you ❤️ - G
Opera is what you appreciate. Try the Vilja Lied from Beste Zangers... have fun
6;28 LOL what she said: "dank je wel Floortje !"
It translates to: "Thank you little Floor" . Little in this case is a sort of word of endearment.
But Floor is taller than most of the comment section which in case of metal are a lot of guys and herself too. :-)
I like Ginger getting carried away. And I agree with Mike's Abba comment.
A ways back, Floor and Simone were flatmates. They did some youtube videos about cooking, boys, music and some piano playing. They are both gr8 peeps.
That would be awesome to watch! 😅 - G
beautiful reaction, you will love sancta terra as well from them, keep up the great work!
That proves how thin the line between classical music and metal truly is. An audience of diehard metralhardes in total silence. Also it proves how skilled and advanced as singers both Floor and Simone are.
Floor Jansen ❤️ She is goddess
Subscribed purely for the floor and Nightwish reactions.
Ayreon-The Day that the World Breaks Down and Valley of the Queens are definitely a must also. You will not regret it.
We’ll definitely check then out! - G
Another song from this set, Sancta Terra, was my first introduction to Floor and Simone performing together. Check it out!
Sancta Terra, another duet from these two amazing women por favor. Also nightwish doing phantom of the opera. Its bassist Marco and original vocalist Tarja, real good as well.
Why not vice versa, Simone visiting Floor in Hardenberg, The Netherlands, Christmas show 2007
Simone Simons and After Forever - Beyond me
th-cam.com/video/H54omqI4_5k/w-d-xo.html
sadly bad video but audio is ok
Written by the baroque componist Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710-1736).
Do you really want to hear opera from Floor..? She sings "O Mio Babbino Caro", from Puccini. Short but so beautiful.🙏
so glad you guys covered this ..
Believe when I say, so are we 😁 - G
Sancta Terra - Epica feat. Floor (Flatmates during their early metal careers)
It wasn't that long ago..
Heres the link th-cam.com/video/cx22Yuj2nzg/w-d-xo.html
We will definitely check it out! Thank you 😊- G

You know this piece was in a middle of a metal concert, right?
This is Epica’s 10th anniversary concert called Retrospect, 3 hours of epicness including full orchestra, choir and special guests. Definitely one of the most ambitious, complex and epic concerts ever.
Check out some more examples from this concert (without Floor..) -
Epica - Chasing the Dragon
Epica - Serenade of Self-Destruction
Epica - Design Your Universe
as an aside, note how floor is always in a position to clock the conductor and give hand signals to simone. very clever.
i know this is late.
kindest c.
You should try listening to Floor and her sister Irene singing together.
I really enjoyed your reaction to this wonderful piece. You have a new subscriber now. Well Done!!!!
Thank you, and welcome 🙏🏻
Also another great live performance with orchestra AURORA - It Happened Quiet (Live at Nidarosdomen).
We’ll check it out! Thanks 🙏🏻 - G
Epica has amazing softer songs, not only a metal band. That's way there my nr1.
Epica - Cry for the moon might be something you might like
wow, i just love your reaction, its mindblowing isn't, Floor and Simone together
Indeed - G
I love this turn that metal has taken in recent years because I have always argued that rock is the high skill, high art, end of the modern musical spectrum and pieces like this performed by bands like Epica just prove my point :D.
Here is Sancta Terra with Floor from the same gig I think - th-cam.com/video/cx22Yuj2nzg/w-d-xo.html
Another floorgasm 🙏🙏👍👍👍👍
😁❤️ Have you done Santa terra by Epically with Floor Jansen?
Not yet! It is coming up, though- G
Sancta Terra from the same concert next. Great reaction, very emotional.
Oh, i love this, yes sancta terra next please please!!
I think Ginger will like that one: Raskasta Joulua - Oi Jouluyö - Floor Jansen - th-cam.com/video/QS55ffx8Av4/w-d-xo.html
OMG! That one makes me cry just thinking about it!
Your youtube link links to the above video for me, This was one I was also going to link but didn't get around to it (pregnant floor still preforming 100%)
th-cam.com/video/ym1Wc5dmUYc/w-d-xo.html
So beautiful
Indeed. ❤️ - G
No doubt you will get a flood of Simone/Floor collab requests. They are great friends. Search on those collabs and you will find more of Floor joining Simone on stage with Epica. Simone joining Floor on stage with her first band, After Forever. Lots of Quantum Singularities to explore.
That was performanced at the same concert (They also did Star wars thema epic style :) )
Ginger. You talking about your reaction to your first Opera . .reminds me of the scene in Pretty Woman where Vivan Ward sees an Opera for the first time
It really was a lot like that! - G
@@MikeandGinger Except .. you probably didn't say "Oooo .. the have a band!!"
More opera with Floor. Puccini's O Mio Babino Caro:

Loved Simone since middle school. I'm almost 30 now. Haha
they have done also opposite visits
After Forever - Beyond Me pt. 2 (with Simone and Mark) th-cam.com/video/uk2-inB0UHs/w-d-xo.html
Revamp (with Simone Simons) : Sweet Curse, live @ MFVF 8 th-cam.com/video/xmYzLIB6OjU/w-d-xo.html
For a second i thought that Ginger was truly crying at 4:30
And this was on a metal concert. This can only do by Simone and Floor.😂
Well now you have to do Sancta Terra from the same show and it will redefine your definition of ANGELIC!!!!
Thank you for that! I love learning the history of things like this. We’ll definitely be doing more with these ladies ❤️ - G
to prove to you these netherlands gals have been drinking something in the water to make them sing so well like Simone Simons and Floor Jansen did here check out Dutch Sister Band Ogene (Oh Jean) who won The Voice Holland in 2014 on their song Magic th-cam.com/video/HIDh0tZZ8WU/w-d-xo.html
Ave Maria Floor and Marko......you will love it
