    Just would like to say love watching you repair cars because it gives me more insight on how to get the job done. As a mechanic who loves to do side work and support my family I appreciate all u do. I like the way you bring your kids into your work area I did the same when. They were small. 🤙👍👍🤜

    1996 Taco with the 2rz-fe. Researched to try and diagnose idle vibration. Mine has an automatic gearbox and would begin to vibrate excessively when at optimal temperature in drive. Park and neutral were slightly better but the problem would stop as long as it was moving. Disconcerning amount of time on Tacoma World later I read a list of common issues with Gen 1's and decided to remove the heat shield. Exact same fracture in the same place! Finally found the problem AND a great video that shows how to fix it. Thank you so much, really appreciate the content.

    I got a 2001 Tacoma with the same code. I’m pretty sure mine is going through the same thing. I got a leak somewhere and that code haunts me. If you are located in Nevada I would definitely pay you to work on my truck lol. Probably cheaper than these ppl here that can’t diagnose my truck properly. Great video. Keep it up. Gives my truck hope!

  • @topherd1011

    If you round a bolt you can always TRY to put a smaller socket on it with a hammer(preferably 12pt) and take an impact to it. Sometimes that will be just enough to get it loose.
    On the manifold I understand the “want to” and reasoning in repairing it, but dollars to donuts that thing will crack again in another spot. If you can afford it I always say buy a new one or hit the junkyard for one.

    I had both Catalytic Converters (OEM CARB complaint) replaced on my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder in 2015. The check engine light recently turned on (P0420 Bank 1). It turns off by itself at times, but then a few days later it returns.
    Cant be a gas cap and I dont think its bad fuel (I stick to Chevron, Shell, 76, Mobil, etc).

    kudos on saving a lot of money on the universal cat and making it fit...Just wondering though, wouldn't it have been better to fix the exhaust leak first? Just thinking the exhaust leak could throw the 02 sensors off therefore throwing a false 420 code..MIGHT not have needed a cat yet. 9 times out of 10 a 420 code does result in the cat being bad, but usually there isn't an exhaust leak that big. It'd be awesome to know if sealing that leak alone would have taken care of the 420 code

    • @FixItAngel
      @FixItAngel  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Pyro17059 Thank you. Yes you could be right. I should have shown how much material was coming out of the old cat, so I think it was already bad. Thank you for your comment.

    interesting to see how long the weld will last on the cast iron manifold ? at 250 if it last another 50K that's all you need =) (? best to drill a hole to stop the crack and then blazing it instead of welding it? )

    OMG, you literally cleaned and polished every single thing between the hood and the floor beforehand...! It looks like it was never driven, but it wouldn't even have that problem if it had never been driven, right? Idk, but I love cars and working on them which is really a lot more fun when you have the exact flex ratchet, SMH, and what kind of asshole still rounds a bolt with all that??? hahhaha KIDDING A wonderful video, wonderully done, thanks very much, I loved it :) It was helpful too

    Nice job. This is what we do in our cenre for getting red of check engine light. Have you ever heard about programming ECM for USA FJ Cruiser to change the vehicle specs. It is like changing CAT configurations so that we tell the vehicle not to cosider trouble codes those come because of CAT issues.

    I recently had my catalytic converter stolen. Bought a new Cat, had it installed at muffler shop. Before theft NO O2 codes, After replacement of Cat, I had the shop haet paint the Cat and mark the VIN # on it. After driving the truck home(2004 Tacoma 2.7L), started getting P0420 Code when engine light came on? The new Cat had to be welded in place because flanges were gone. The O2 sensor 'rear', was not changed nor damaged during theft-Can you guess what might be causing code?? I am taking it to my mechanic because my Code Reader is a cheapy, and mechanic has the expensive full blown analizer. Could my mechanic find whether or not the code is from a bad weld-if the O2 sensors are good? THanks for you video.

      escape you can also use you’re scan tool and graph the upstream and downstream 02 on that bank and if they copy each other then you know the cat is bad

  • @LuisAngel64

    A little explanation would be nice... However it is a good video tho, I had the same problem with mine but I replace the exhaust manifold for a Stainless steel header Instead, better than that cast iron junk... Oh and I will avoid all that work getting the Cat. with the flanges on already, the price are the same...

    Hi Angel thanks for your videos the way I like, straight to the point and show a lot the details for the repair make more understandable , I have a questions a have a 2001 Mazda MPV DX and I got a P0421 code and according to my manual its the warm-up three way catalytic converter behind the engine on the firewall , but there's another catalytic converter under the vehicle so what should I do ? change the one on the engine or the one vehicle or is there any way I can test the one on the engine ? thank you Angel for your help and please keep the videos coming I'm learning a lot from you man. Peace !!!

      lyon65 hi, thank you for watching my videos.
      When was the last time you replace your spark plugs?
      If spark plugs is fooled up. It could cause that code to come up because the fuel isn’t burning completely. It can be too much fuel burning in the car.
      To know for sure which is bad cat. You need to go and get it diagnosed at a dealer or at a good shop. The have the scan tool to read the temperature of the catalytic if it working correctly.

    • @lyon65
      @lyon65 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Angel thanks for your reply ; I got this van from my sister in law because she did not want o deal whit fixing the minivan, so she gave to my wife so I can fix it. all begun when the van start failing and my sister in law have a mechanic perform a tune up, he change spark plugs, coil pack, cables , etc. but still having a rough idle so I checked the cable between the coil pack and the spark plug and it was not having spark on 2 cylinders, so I send the computer to test and they find a coil burn inside.
      so they fixed it and after installed it again on the minivan it runs great now, but the funny thing I got the code but no light on my dashboard, scanner show all monitors ready except for the catalytic and also I heard a little boom boom noise between the manifold and the air filter make me thinks gases trying to escape trough the air filter since they can't do it trough the cat on the engine. I tried the the temperature and both are very similar on the cat under the vehicle but since they are 2 cat I'm not sure which one to change.
      and I really need to fix this to pass smog check and get the sticker its been 3 months trying to fix it I'll appreciate your help if you guide me to do it.

    • @FixItAngel
      @FixItAngel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      lyon65 I think the catalytic is bad from the misfire cylinders.
      Catalytics are very expensive. To try to pass smog.
      You can try this. It worked for me. Watch this video I did on a Corolla to pass smog.

      +Clete88 Sorry no I'm not a pro. Really I didn't know I had to preheat cast iron manifold, now I know. It was a first time thing so next time I will throw it in my bbq pit. Thank you for pointing that out.

      +Fix It Angel That would work....you want to preheat the iron part, then do your weld, or brazing....then insulate the hot part with blankets so that it cools gradually....otherwise, you will get stresses and the problem will return, even if you're lucky enough to pull it off otherwise.. Brazing is the best choice in this case, using nickel/bronze on a preheated iron part....But you pulled it off....Good job.

      Thank you for your expertise in welding. I will do it in my videos from now on. Thank you again and have a nice day.

      Ok, maybe you can weld it, instead of replacing.

    Your mig wire feed is too fast and/ or the output setting is too low.

    If that's California then you had better be sure that that aftermarket converter has the proper EO number stamped on it because if not one day you're going to come across an inspection tech who checks the numbers and it wont matter how well it works you will fail.

    I’d like to try this, but I’m afraid I’ll break a bolt off from the manifold to engine. Any tips other than bolt spray?
