- The Knight's Armament M5 RAS is pretty hard to come across these days, so hopefully this video gives you a few more options to consider if you're trying to clone the M16A4 and/or M4A1. Unfortunately I couldn't find any in stock, but this should give you a few more buying options.
The M16A4 is such an iconic rifle, and is one of my personal favorites. Mine is a Bravo Company MFG clone. The Knight's Armament M5 RAS Picatinny rail, Trijicon TA31 ACOG... all of it make such an awesome rifle to shoot. If you're wondering whether you should get a clone of your own, these reasons will help!
My M16A4 has performed well after 5,000+ rounds of both brass and steel cased 5.56mm NATO.
This rifle is an "inspired" clone, meaning doesn't have any Colt or FN/FNH parts, but it does include things like the Trijicon ACOG TA31RCO-A4CP, MaTech BUIS, and Knight's Armament M5 RAS non-free floated rail. It also has various Bravo Company USA, Aero Precision, and Toolcraft parts.
You’re missing a lot of places. Midwayusa, Omaha outdoors, rooftopdefense, wetworxoutfitters, bigtexordance, and the legendary weaponoutfitters.
Also forgot operationparts
Pinned so others see this!
@@jamesshootsI found out P&S is bankrupt and they are no longer making anything. I hear that as of last month. But I have not verified with anyone. But that did come from someone in the industry….
Oh damn I really hope it’s not true :(
@@jamesshoots what do you mean not true?
I’m amazed no one is just making and selling 20 inch uppers with an M5 RAS. I’ve been looking over for 3 years.
FN has their Military Collectors Series that come with the M5 RAS, but they are complete rifles, not just uppers. You pay $1700 for them and they aren't as true TDP as a Colt.
It would be nice if Colt would lock down the 2005 GWOT cloner market by just offering their 6920 and AR15A4 with the M5 RAS.
Yeah seriously. I wonder if PSA will ever do that. They already have A4 uppers (but with A2 handguards) and they sell their M4A1 clones with the Picatinny rail, but I couldn’t verify who actually made the rail.
Gunbroker has one kac m5 ras nos for 380 rn just checked at this time
@@MTMILITIAMAN7.62 Aren't as true TDP as Colt? Wasn't FN the one making M16A4s for gov and not Colt?
@@usernamehhhs4540 FN has been sniping contracts from Colt since their patent expired in the 80s, but Colt still owns the TDP. FN makes rifles for the government, but they have a contractual agreement with Colt to use the TDP. Part of the stipulations of this contract is that FN will not compete with Colt in the commercial market by selling the same rifles to civilians that they sell the government. Consequently, FN has to change some parts on their commercial rifles. For example, FN uses their excellent CHF double chrome lined CMV barrels on their government rifles, but uses 4140 button broached barrels in their commercial rifles. You can buy the FN CHF CMV barrels separately or as complete uppers, but not as a complete rifle because of their contractual obligations to Colt. I believe BCGs and buffer assemblies might also be different on the FN commercial rifles, but I am not positive.
The Colt AR15A4 will be more technically correct from a cloner's perspective because Colt still owns the TDP and is not under any contract forbidding them from selling TDP parts on the commercial market.
For most of the last two decades, Colt has had the most direct route to a M4 or M16A4 clone for this reason. Lately, however, the hardest part has been acquiring the KAC M5 RAS. FN apparently has an agreement with KAC for these as they seem to be the only ones who can get them. So FN has once again been able to turn the tables on Colt by cornering this market. Since the supply of M5 RAS has dried up as it is quite literally easier to get the FN Military Collector rifles and swap out barrels and BCGs if you want a clone correct rifle than it is to get the Colt rifle and swap out the God damn handguard.
More M16A4 content. Just bring it.
I have a government contract FN upper. It came with the P&S rail
I have the same one. Really wish I could find a spare contract cage coded FN barrel with the rifle feed ramps. All the barrels I see now have M4 feed ramp extensions
@@RanOutOnARail you might have to look for an FN A2 upper to find that
I got one when Brownell's had them for around $200. It's a P&S but I am happy with it, I've got other Knight's rifles.
Duuude that is a STEAL. Kudos!
dudeeeeeeee! so cool
Dude, I love your videos
Thank you!!
There is a bin of these sitting in the corner of our armory lol
The u.s.a automatically gives you one attached to a m16 if you are isis
Folks, KAC products are what we call "UnObtainium"
Ive been in the Army for 13 years and some change. The last time i came across the M16A3 was when i was stationed at Ft hood (1-8Cav) back in 2019
Maybe learning the lessons on using the M16A4 in close quarters like how they were used in Iraq
Did you ever thought about going to FN website? You actually ordered a complete upper system, dude?
I got my P+S from thoughbread armament. I think I paid a little less than $300 for the rial, foregrip, and all of the rail covers
Thank you for the information
Go to PSA and get a premium FN upper.
Fn sells the rifle complete
GAFS is where I got mine. Its salty.
I was DUMB and got an ACOG with a BDC calibrated for a 14.5" barrel. 🙄 Completely USELESS for a 20" build.
I really hate this hobby because good optics are NOT cheap.
It sounds like you have a new 14.5” build on the way 👀 but yeah lol so true. The ACOG cost me about as much as the entire rifle with the rail, furniture, etc. 😅
stop making M16A4 video! Grh! Can't even find an okay looking M5 RAS without paying 300 up
Yeah it shouldn’t be like this :( I’d like to think that these rifles will last us forever, so that makes me a little more willing to pay a premium for attachments where it’s reasonable (not to sway you one way or the other). In the meantime, I guess you could get A2 handguards so you can at least take the A4 to the range??
Oof. Just looked in my Facebook messages, I paid $150 for a new KAC M5 with full kit in 2021
Holy….. I am jealous LOL
I guess ill just keep my plastic m4 hand guard held together by tape
Hey if it works it works
I may or may not know a guy who allegedly walked into an arms room with some M5 RAS sets sitting on the arms room table and asked the armorer if they were on the books and he said no and gave him a set. Ended up buying a 20” upper and M16 lower and painted it tan. Lucky man I’d say.
Bro, you should get an Aero and PSA and more options then tell us the differences.
Man that would be nice. I scored my p&s for $50 at a pawn shop that was going out of business.
James! Long time no see. The algorithm blessed me by suggesting one of your videos today and I suddenly realized who it was made by. Cool to see you doing firearms content. If you're still in the PNW we should link up and shoot sometime! Hope you've been well. And remember: Anybody wanna go get dinner? I'm buying... for my self!
Charlie's Custom Clones will have them on stock every now and then.
James, as always I appreciate your content. I’d like to see you get a Block I and compare it to your Block II.
I got one of those in the basement. Maybe I should sell it.
Oh definitely, you could definitely make a pretty penny off it!
Troll.
Great video as always, James! I really enjoy my FN M16 clone, but I understand wanting to build your own. I'd like to see more of you shooting the M16 with the carry handle, the MAtech and the ACOG, as well as covering any other attachments you have for your rifle. Very interested in anything you produce for the M16!
Thank you!! Love these suggestions!
What rail covers did you buy? I’m making a M4 carbine clone. Need the light, ACOG, and rail covers but have to wait until my paycheck comes in 😅
Buy either KAC rail covers or the P&S product rail covers. Both are clone correct
Classic.
Always on point and in depth, good stuff James
Thank you brotha!!
I gave up finding one just went with a midwest rail instead and they are really good🤙🏽🇺🇲
Same
Same, anyone else gave up too?🤚
im not gonna lie, Im rocking a Airsoft M16A4's M5 RAS on my personal clone build of my government M16A4, It works perfectly, tight fit and doesn't wobble or move. my attatchments hold perfectly on it too.
Poor
has your rifle been outside? has your rifle been fired? 😂
@@captainslow5787 yes
If the rifle is a Plinker that's good ig. I don't rly believe in 556 Plinkers lol
The more desperate i get, the more tempting this is😅
Which brand did you end up getting? Cyma? DBoys...?
Why would you even make a video about something you can't buy?
Buy yourself a BCM gunfighter free float quad rail. Way less expensive and has an actual performance improvement. I removed the M5 RAS from my FN collector series A4 because I got tired of the ridiculous point of impact shifts depending on how I rested the forend. The grip panels are chunky and offer no real advantage. I can get consistent 1 MOA or better groups with IMI 77gr with the BCM free float, no POI shift. The only advantage the M5 has is slightly more durability and the option to mount a M203. This is irrelevant to most. The M5 was obsolete by 2008-2009.
I’ll take it off your hands for $3
If you don’t want a clone of an a4 then just buy a free floated 20 inch upper from the jump
@michaeldanchez9530 yeah I wanted a clone, but I actually use my stuff for practical purposes rather than just a range toy. A POI shift at 50m of more than 3-4 inches is unacceptable. That's what I got with the M5 RAS. That shift would be enough to miss a small target entirely beyond 100 yards. I also removed the junk A2 grip for a magpul one and use a vortex razor 1-6. Cope harder.
Interesting, I have a FN M16 M.C. with bipod and acog. I have not noticed any poi shift no matter how I front load my bipod or torque on the rail. It seems like you really really have to yank it to even get a slight poi I shift which I haven't manage to do.
@Gchang54 even with perfect installation and stress relieved barrel I find that hard to believe. I've handled more than my fair share of ARs with fixed A2 sights, non free float handguards and they'll all have a POI shift. The longer barrels tend to be worse.
Check out Centruion arms. They have some cool stuff, but not sure how their stock is looking at the moment. I got a one of their handgaurd for a fsb 16in mid length. It's 2 piece and free floated. Pretty sweet.
I purchased the FN collector's m16a4 because it was the last one in store and came on youtube to watch some reviews to learn more about the gun. Didn't even know I struck gold!
I just use a 12.5" RIS II and call it a day...
