    Hi JJ, Just wanted to thank you for posting this tutorial. It saved my a ton of money since my previous mechanic priced this job out way too high!
    He actually lost my business entirely because he gouged me and lied to me too many times.
    I paid $67 for the part at Honda.
    Installed it in just 5 minutes! Almost as easy as changing the engine air filter!
    I didn't bother taking off the valve cover, didnt need to. Thanks again!

    I was looking for this pcv on my 16 crv.

    I'm a total noob at diy auto repair but I've taken on a few projects (changed the oil, changed the spark plugs, cleaned the maf).
    I've been trying to find the pcv valve on my crv for what feels like weeks (every few days I looked around the engine compartment).
    Thank you so much for this video! I will be switching that mofo out tomorrow (if it doesn't rain)!
    Update- I got it done in like 5 minutes, thanks so much!

    Great video! I just can't find any videos/instructions on replacing a purge valve solenoid in my 2016 CRV. There's very little room to access the bottom bolt of the purge valve. Would I need to remove the throttle body to access the bottom bolt of the purge valve?

    Thanks for the video. Can I get away with just the 10 MM socket? I don't have a 10MM open end wrench and, can't see buying one just for this. Also, what size are the 5 bolts on the cover? Thanks

    • @jjsdiygarage1267

      You might be able to, depending on the size ratchet you have..a 10 mm wrench is definitely worth the money though.

      @@robertbrost7777 nice, hopefully it helps. Oil consumption has a few different causes..PCV is the easiest and least intrusive so it's a good place to start.

    • @jjsdiygarage1267

      Fuel injectors

    • @jjsdiygarage1267
      @jjsdiygarage1267  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Coil packs, spark plugs, dirty mass air flow sensor. Lots of stuff could cause that. A dirty Mass air flow sensor does not always throw a check engine light.

    • @ray-sr1350
      @ray-sr1350 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually when your engine is consuming/ burning oil and there’s no obvious oil leak. Avoid doing engine flush on modern engines….just watch a super helpful video like this one and change your pcv valve.

    Pro tip. Use a 10mm box end wrench. Then there is no need to remove the top of the valve cover.

    • @jjsdiygarage1267

      as long as you didn't mess up the gasket when you tightened it down... I would re use it. Chances are pretty good that it got pinched during install causing it to leak.

    • @jjsdiygarage1267

      I had an oil consumption issue, had to add about a quart of oil between oil changes. Removed the PCV to inspect it and found that the valve was broken and rattled excessively, and didn't work as a one way check valve anymore. Replaced it and the consumption issue went away. Cheap fix.

    • @jjsdiygarage1267
      @jjsdiygarage1267  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not believe there is a regular replacement interval for the PCV. If you are noticing oil consumption or unusual sounds coming from the valve cover area its worth replacing. Honda may have an interval but I do not know it.

    Hi JJ
    Does your CRV rattle for 1or 2 sec on the cold start or even with every time you start your engine ?? I have this issue on my 2015 CRV. I am out of warranty and have come across forums and videos talking about VTC actuator replacement. However , I found one TSB link that states that replacing VTC on 2015 CRV won't solve the issue. static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2018/MC-10127348-9999.pdf
    I spoke with my local honda dealer about this issue and he quoted me for $ 1,100 CAD ( just for VTC replacement) . Told me it might be costlier if they find that timing chain and chain guide needs replacement.
    Any comments or advise please ??

    • @jjsdiygarage1267
      @jjsdiygarage1267  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, a rattle at start-up could be a lot of things. How many miles are on your car? Timing chains are usually good for a couple hundred thousand miles if servised routinely and not driven excessively hard. Do you have any check engine lights? i would assume there is a VTC actuator error code, have oil changes been done regularl? was anything done prior to the rattle which may have caused it? Have you ever used fuel system cleaner?

    • @jdoggosu
      @jdoggosu ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure if you fixed this yet. But I had the same problem. My mechanic removed and put back the oil pan and the rattle disappeared on startup.
