I’d agree with you completely, in my opinion the greatest of all time would have to be a tie between Pantera and Meshuggah for their studio AND live work. Nevermore with Loomis, Broderick, and Warrel Dane (when he was still alive) would be an extremely close second place.
Most likely (99% sure) these are all midi triggered lights. Everyone has click in, at least the drummer does, and the lights are fed a midi sequence based on a bunch of factors, most notably the tempo.
They have a lighting tech. He creates the sequences off the album tracks since the band plays to the clicks live. He definitely stands by and adds and subs different things on the fly though.
I will always love this band. Even tho it’s edgy and hip to “not like” Meshuggah, I could care less what pretentious influencers have to say. Sabbath is the father, Metallica is the Son, and Meshuggah is the Holy Spirit.
Frequently watching this again and again for past few months and goosebumps every single time. The cleanest and heaviest I've heard meshuggah with excellent lightning show. Especially at 2:58 when the entire show goes complete bonkers for me. Truly one of a kind, utopian experience that I wish can be replicated.
Jesus Christ,! Did that deserved a re-watch. Brilliant lighting, Edvard, and amazing sound clarity, really loud, headphones, kid asleep upstairs (ha). I'm hoping yourselves, Devin, or Opeth will be touring once this crazy is over. Let's hope our ents/expo industry can bounce back. The number of people I know in rocknroll, theatre, expo, and tv, all having to find quickly new ways to get by is staggering.
Can EVERY live video on youtube be this level of audio and visual clarity, please and thank you? MAN this video REALLY shows me the work that goes into the light show portion of a concert. GOODNESS. THANK YOU for posting this!
As a guitarist, I still wonder how Per Nilsson have learn a complete Meshuggah set and does a so great job performing live those complex songs. That's a true lesson of great professionalism and this is very inspiring. And he plays most of the solo in finger picking (or tapping here...), that's crazy !
Julien, please check a video called "COFFEE WITH OLA - Per Nilsson Of Meshuggah, Scar Symmetry & Nocturnal Rites" on the Ola Englund TH-cam channel - he talks about the process in detail. He learned the songs in a couple of weeks, and got it 99% right on the first rehearsal!!! Crazy!

I honestly feel like I am just living to wait for my next meshuggah gig. Absolutely phenomenal band, will always be my favourite. Thanks for the quality upload, helps to relive the nights.Hopefully there are more!
How dare you call Meshuggah an amalgamation of pretentious, non-interesting pseudo-neoclassical motifs that is being elaborated on in the most boring ways possible? Like, I don't want to shit on O'Neill, but TSO was probably his most average work.
Meshuggah has always had the coolest light shows. The tech just turns all tge faders all the way up and plays that board like a piano with the music. So fucking cool!
even though I’m not really a fan of their last 2 albums and the time they take to make a new one is completely absurd, there’s no metal band nowadays that can even lick these guys shoes. Old or new, no one is even remotely close to Meshuggah’s level
yes, because there is only "metal".no question , these guys are tight! but there are plenty of other top-class "metal" acts on level with them, just not in the same sub-genre or style.
This gives message to all the bands out there - do the homework, this is how band needs to sound live! 👊 Epic, powerfull, all the respect to you guys! 👌
Intelligent lighting done right. It is an art that has been lost in this modern age I am glad it is making a come back. In the 90's and early 2000's most big bands did the most with what technology provided. Takes a lot of work to sync things up this well and play to a defined click. I worked mixing live sound and programming intelligent lighting with old DMX connected hardware back in those days. I remember seeing White Zombie live a few times and they always brought a huge light show with them. Hope to see more bands doing this.
That is the heaviest thing I have ever heard in my fucking life
